We had a really interesting and informative city tour with Lily. We spent nearly 4.5 hours as her driver took us around the city. We visited the Palace Museum, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial and Longshan Temple. We thoroughly enjoyed each stop and enjoyed Lily’s explanations and insights. Lily is very friendly and shared great details of life in Taiwan. Highly recommend this tour and guide!

Itinerary
The first stop on your Taipei half-day tour is the world-famous National Palace Museum, which is also one of the world’s largest museums. With a collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, the museum showcases 8,000 years of Chinese art history spanning multiple dynasties. Two of the most famous artworks on display are “the Jadeite Cabbage” and “the Meat-Shaped Stone”, which are the must-sees in National Palace Museum.
The next stop is Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, an impressive monument in memory of the late president of the Republic of China, Chang Kai-shek. To reach the main hall, you need to climb up 89 steps, which represent Chang Kai-Shek’s age when he died. Here the changing of the guard ceremony takes place every hour on the hour from 09:00 in the main hall.
In addition to the majestic main hall of the memorial, the exquisite Chinese garden around the building and the vast plaza are also worth visiting. If you come here in the early morning, you can see some people practicing Qigong there.
Our tour continues with a visit to Longshan Temple, where the local people pray for good luck or find inner peace. Here you will learn about Taiwan’s religious belief and practices. The temple was built in 1738 and dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy). The temple was severely damaged during Taipei Air Raid, but the statue of Guanyin survived the raid. Besides the Goddess of Mercy, the temple devotes Yue Lao (the Matchmaker God), Wenchang Dijun (the God of Literature), Songzi Niangniang (the maiden who brings children) and many more. You can pray for yourself and your family, and even try asking the gods for advice by tossing divination blocks.
On the way back to our meeting point, you can choose to be dropped off at Ximending.

Our guide was very knowledgeable. She did a great job explaining the history of the sights and included personal observations, which I always appreciate.
This was a great tour for a quick overview of many of the important sights of Taiwan! There were a few small communication troubles but our guide was so sweet & cheerful & fun! There really wasn’t enough time at any of the stops, I wanted to see so much more! But if you’re short on time & don’t mind just a little taste this is a great way to do it!
My husband and me appreciate the educational and interesting tour we had with James our English speaking guide, who also spoke in Japanese to the other couple with us. Seeing the places we only read about and hearing their history from James was truly amazing. Going around the city in a van was also convenient and practical.
Lily did an excellent job on this tour. She’s not only knowledgeable about the tour highlights but very good at explaining detailed things about the subjects. And a very pleasant person.
Pick the hotel pick up option. The taxi driver could not find the meeting location. That park is awfully small and didn’t appear on his gps. He dropped us a good 10 minutes walk away based on the address and we missed the tour. A lady at a convenience store was kind enough to direct us but it was too late. Should be listed as the subway station exit #2 instead of all those confusing numbers. Made it sound like a big transit hub to a foreigner. We ended going by ourselves to the Palace Museum. Much better experience without the hassle of the time constraints. Gave us time to buy some beautiful souvenirs. There was no week ahead restriction for the tickets to enter the museum. Rated this low because I paid and got nothing for it. Lesson learnt
Tony was great! he explained everything very clearly and had very good knowledge about the history of every stop he is a fantastic tour guide!
Our guide, Walter, was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and did a great job explaining the history and context of all the sites we visited.
Outstanding tour with knowledgeable guide who answered all our questions. The sights were interesting and informative.
Edison Tour Company and Viator are excellent. Teresa the greeter/guide, saw me walking up to the meet point and greeted me right away, I did not have to ask, Teresa is terrific! James the tour guide is very knowledgeable, speaks English and showed things and explained history that I would not have seen and heard without him and Edison Tours
I took this tour on an extended layover in Taipei as I wanted to make the most of my time and see the city. This half day tour was perfect and included three cultural stops. The National Palace Museum is huge and houses so many artifacts that it would be hard to see them all. Our tour guide was able to show us the most valuable and important pieces and provide history and stories behind them. We were able to see the changing of the guard at Memorial Hall and visit the beautiful Longshan Temple. James our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge and kept us on time. This tour is great for anyone pressed for time that wants a taste of Taipei.
We had a very fun and enjoyable morning with David as our guide. The tour was definitely worth it. Thank you David!
Our guide showed us highlights of the Palace Museum. We also saw the changing of the guards at the memorial and the city's oldest temple.
We had a great tour with Reina and our driver Mr Wei. Reina was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Mr Wei was very good with his driving. Pick up was easy, punctual and convenient. Sights were very enjoyable and Reina was able to explain and show everything to us. Many thanks
Everything was perfect. Tour guide was very nice. I very recommended this tour.
James was fantastic as a tour guide. We had a private tour with interesting background on the items in all of the places. I only had a few hours to sight see and this hits many of the major landmarks. You won’t regret going on this tour!
James and Vincent combo was great team! Very knowledgable and well prepared. Only half day tour but time well spent.
Perfect half day tour of Taipei.James, our guide gave us a concise, informative history of Taiwan. He took us to the National Museum first to avoid the crowds and pointed out major pieces of significance.Great tour for those pressed for time.
Excellent tour. Duration was just right. Not too long and not too short. We enjoyed it immensely and our guide was great
This is a wonderful tour. You get to see the highlights of the culture of this city and country. Our tour guide Caira and driver Mr Chen made this a memorable tour.
This was a good way to get oriented with the city, Taiwan history and more. Christina was our guide and we were part of a small group of only 5. She answered questions, kept us moving, and made sure we had the best experience we could in such a short time.
This was a quick tour, but you see a lot in a short amount of time. I found the guide to be very knowledgeable and I appreciated how much we were able to see. I would recommend this to anyone interested in history.
We joined this half-day tour so that we could experience a taste of three cultural highlights of Taipei on a rainy day. We were pleased we did. Our guide David was friendly, spoke excellent English, and was highly knowledgeable not only about the three places we visited but also about Taipei and Taiwanese history. Recommended.
Very pleasant and knowledgeable guide. Our guide adjusted to our needs. She was very gracious and wonderful person.
We have had an amazing day with Cher today. We asked her to show us the city and also we wanted to visit some stores which wasn’t a problem for her. She was very knowledgeable on the city and her English was very good. She was very organised and the day went very smoothly. Cher was also fun to be with as she was always laughing and gets on with everyone. I would fully recommend Cher as a tour guide. Our only regret was that we could do a second day with her visiting the country side.
We had a small group and James as our tour guide. He was really knowledgeable and we had some great conversations about life in Taiwan. The changing of the guards at the Chiang Kai-shek memorial and Martyrs memorial was a reflective experience for the recent history of Taiwan. The Palace Museum was great and very crowded, we saw the highlights and there was so much we didn’t have time to see everything.
Amazing places and experience! Moly is a great guide explaining very nice the history of amazing places! I highly recommend this tour!
Esther was charming, helpful, and well informed. This was an nsightful and hassle-free tour of city highlights. Good option for solo travellers.
Nice beginners tour of main Taipei sites. Chiara was wonderful and had a broad knowledge of the city, sites and history. Nothing was rushed and just the right amount of time at each stop. The small size group made the experience much nicer and friendly.
Very enjoyable trip, our guide is well informed and pleasant. He had a very sincere appreciation for Taiwan culture and art, made the tour even so much more enjoyable. The tour can only spend a limited amount of time at each location, but if you’re looking for something like that (we were) which gives you a four hour brief tour of these major locations, it was perfect.
Wonderfully timed to see the changing of the guards at the Chung Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and Martyrs Shrine. Very informative and helpful guide.
Good tour to get a crash course if you only have a few hours to sped in Taipei. Sharon was a very knowledgeable accommodating and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend this tour.
Our visit to Tapei was brief but very enjoyable. The tour guide was excellent. We saw all the highlights while visiting.
The Taipei National Palace Museum harbors the rare, unique and traditional Taiwan's national treasures and artifacts spanning centuries and dynasties. It has many local visitors and tourists. At the entrance is the imposing Mao "The Chairman" statue and other oriental statues. One cannot complete the tour of the museum due to the number of items inside and can easily get lost in the many compartments inside the museum. Some of the treasures are stored away from view for security reasons. There's also an eatery within the museum with mouth watering and sumptuous meals.
Only had a short visit to Taipei, this tour brought us to must see places. Would love to stay longer at the National Palace, so much to see.
It was a little average trip around Taipei checking out some of the sites with door to door drop-offs and pickups.
This tour offers you a chance to see fascinating parts of Taipei they might otherwise miss. Bridget is an excellent guide who really knows her history and culture.
Wonderful tour - perfect for an afternoon hitting the highlights of Taipei. Wrapping up at the museum was great!
It covers most of the tourist attractions in Taipei. If you’re in just for the day, it’s everything you need.
Very Knowledgeable & nice Tour Guide, it was only half day City Tour, next time i book a Full Day, we just went to a few places & it was in a rush but I came back in Bicycle to another tour 😅
This tour features places that should not be missed. In particular the CSK memorial was an amazing place. Also worth mentioning that our guide Tony was very patient with our tour group.
Following a N Taiwan tour, we decided to join the Taipei City tour the following day. Hotel collection was spot on time and we had a mini-city tour to collect other folks. Our guide Yuki, was knowledgeable, entertaining and a great personality for an introduction to another culture. Our driver, Vincent, expertly navigated the warren of streets around the city. We visited a diverse collection of temples, monuments, museums, markets and shopping malls. Yuki respectfully explained the cultures at the sensitive shrines and museums and gave us lots of time to wander around. We feel like we are experts on Taipei and had a great day out
James and the driver were very friendly and knowledgeable about Taipei. James would explain the history about each place we went to visit. When we asked questions they were able to provide information very quickly. James showed us where to shop in the market and gave us many possible options of where to have lunch. Our traditional Chinese lunch was delicious. They also went out of their way to help me exchange some US dollars to Taiwan dollars. The tour was very well planned but James also asked us what we would like to see.
Our guide Chiara exceeded my expectations on the 1/2 day city tour of Taipei. She was well versed in the history of the places we visited, provided an interesting commentary and made the tour a fun experience.
The variety of places we covered during the tour kept things very interesting. James was an excellent guide who provided with the appropriate amount of history and information,
We very much enjoyed this Taipei City Tour. Our guide was professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share. He had plenty of helpful tips for navigating the city. It was a great experience.
It was a beautiful day to tour the city. The weather was great and the sites were not too crowded. We really feel like we got the most bang for our buck with this tour! Hitting majority of Taipei’s must see sights. All while being guided by a sweet and knowledgeable tour guide, Molly. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Taipei.
We couldn't have asked for a better guide during our tour! Her name was Molly and she was well versed in the history of each of our locations. She spoke perfect English as well as gave us good tips on where to stand for the best views. The driver was very punctual and between Molly and the driver, they coordinated drop-offs and pick-ups perfectly. I would highly recommend this half-day tour!
The museum is the main reason for this tour. Sharon showed great knowledge and enthusiasm showing the Chinese artifacts of centuries and millennia past. The Palace hotel is grand and shows the beautiful Chinese architecture. The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial is open to everyone and you can visit anytime, however, Sharon timed it to the changing of the guards, which added an extra layer of memories.
If you are interested in Chinese culture, especially from the Qing dynasty then this is definitely one of the best museums in the world to see it. In fact my Chinese friends from Xi'an in China, which has one of the best museums in China, including the Terracotta warriors, were really envious that I was able to visit. Even they, with all their rich culture, and Xi'an is an incredible place to visit, told me this was the best museum in China. Quite an endorsement I thought. I would happily visit here again should I ever return to Taipei, to admire the art and the beautiful, intricate, skilled Chinese craftsmanship.
