Tony is the best tour guide in the history of tour guides, truly memorable. Lots of fun despite inclement weather. We all had a great time and made it home with great memories.

Itinerary
Located in Wanli District, New Taipei City, as one of the premier attractions in the northern coast of Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark is home to a number of unique rock formations caused by wind and sea, such as the mushroom rocks, the chessboard rock, the trace fossils and all that.
The most famous rock formation is the iconic “Queen’s Head”, a mushroom rock that resembles the profile of England’s Queen Elizabeth. Every year, the “Yehliu Night Tour” features light shows, water projection, etc, attracting over ten thousands visitors flock to see the Queen’s Head illumined at night. Besides the Queen’s Head, other remarkable formations such as the Sea Candles, the Fairy Shoe, the Ginger Rocks, the Elephant Rock, the Ice Cream Rock, the Kissing Rock, and the Princess’ Head, are worth taking a look at.
Jiufen is a hillside village in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. The village was flourished in the 1940s due to the gold mining industry, and then fell into disrepair and decrepitude for years. Even though the golden age has long gone, this small village still has a lot of stories to tell. The awarded movie “A City of Sadness”, directed by the famous film director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, was shot there. Its unique historical background, the melancholic and emotional atmosphere attracted enormous global attention. The success of the movie also brought vitality to Jiufen’s tourism, making it the most popular destination in northeastern Taiwan. Since you are in Jiufen, it’s recommended to have a cup of tea at a teahouse, where you can appreciate the picturesque scenery, and the freshly brewed tea at the same time. Besides the teahouses, here you can also tastes various local foods and buy souvenirs. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss the traditional Jiufen dessert—Taro Ball!
Situated in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Shifen Waterfall is one of the most popular attractions in this area, widely-known as the “Little Niagara Falls” of Taiwan, a cascade-type waterfall similar to North America's Niagara Falls.
There are several viewing platforms near Shifen Waterfall, where the visitors can see the waterfall from different angles, even have a close-up look. On sunny days, if you are lucky, you can capture a beautiful rainbow created by the mist of this 20-meter tall waterfall as it splashes into the lake.
Shifen Station is located down Keelung River from the waterfall area, originally built for transporting coal during Japanese colonization. The station is right alongside Shifen Old Street, today it stands as a reminder of Taiwan’s history. The street is lined with souvenir shops, sky lantern shops and eateries. You can also see a lot of people set up their sky lanterns on the railway track, getting ready to release them into the sky. Of course, you will not miss out on the opportunity to experience this special tradition. 3 or 4 people will share one lantern, and each of you can write down your wishes on one side of the lantern. Your tour guide will teach you how to release a sky lantern correctly, so you can fully enjoy the tranquil and peaceful moment.
On the way back to our meeting point, you can choose to be dropped off at Taipei 101.

All 4 activities totally worth seeing & doing. Everything was smooth, clear & exceeded expectations.
Tony gave us a great tour. He is a knowledgeable guide and kept the day running quite well. We had a lot of rain but still had an amazing day. Geopark is fantastic, so unusual and some great photo opportunities with the formations and coastline. Jiufen was a great little town with amazing food and shopping - a little harder to experience in the rain, but still worthwhile. The waterfall is spectacular - due to the rain it was absolutely pumping, definitely take Tony's suggestions on photo spots as he took us places we would never have thought to go on our own. In Shifen, the lantern experience was fun - very touristy with a real production line, but a bit of fun and something we had never done before. Having a train go through the town while we were there was also amazing. So overall - highly recommend...... HOWEVER, the bus driver started the day reversing into a fence at the pick-up point (literally putting a hole in the bus and driving with a fence paling sticking out the back). He then spent most of the day driving while watching videos on this phone and eating. There were definitely some unsafe incidents and we didnt feel 100% safe. We've travelled extensively in Asia and this was less about the other drivers and more about this bus driver. We also had a few location drop offs/pick ups that were not ideal in torrential rain - having to walk a long way to and from the bus. Not much they can do about the weather, but long term planning on the drop off locations would definitely help when the weather isn't ideal. We did love all the stops on this one though!
We had a great time!! Tony was a fountain of knowledge and kept us on track the whole way through. We saw the rocks, the waterfall, the cute little town and then we set off a big lantern into the sky - and they arranged everything. Also met some great friends along the way. Highly recommend!! But one tip - bring rain gear! It is a tropical island after all.
I recently booked the Yehliu, Jiufen, and Pingxi day tour through Viator with Edison Tours, and it was absolutely fantastic! A huge part of what made this trip so special was our incredible tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable, bringing the history and culture of every single stop to life effortlessly. Beyond her expertise, she was incredibly personal, down-to-earth, and genuinely friendly to me from the start to the very end of the day. I am very satisfied with the entire tour and highly recommend booking with them. Thank you so much for the wonderful introduction and great memories!
Very reliable service from guide & driver. We definitely recommend Viator! You can book way ahead & can cancel 24hrs before if required.
Great day out from Taipei. Taiwan has beautiful countryside. Molly our guide was great. Loved the day!
Wonderful landscapes, wonderful nature! This is a trip you should not miss out. Our guide, Gordon, was very nice, very friendly, he answered all of our questions about Taiwan, too.
Wonderful experience with a sweet guide that showed us all the best spots to take photos. Beautiful day.
Great day. Just enough time for everything and everywhere. Small group, a lot of time to wonder solo.
I'm so glad I booked this day trip! I was considering doing it solo by MRT and bus and it would've been such a hassle. I feel like I saw and did so much more in the comfort of a mini bus with AC which also saved my poor feet from another 25k step day. A great way to see Jiufen, Shifen, Yehliu Park, and have the (touristy) lantern experience.
Be prepared to do some walking and walking up and down stairs. Great stops during the tour, lots of food options.
Tony was very kind and helpful. We were going late to the tour and he kindly waited for us because it was due to traffic. I truly recommend this tour.
What are memorable experience!! highly recommended to anyone who is in Taipei. Tour was very well managed and not rushed at all. All the locations that were covered were so lovely and gave us a chance to see a different side of Taiwan. Our guide, Kia, was so considerate and so sweet. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
The tour guide, Chiara, and driver, Mr. Wu, were fantastic. It was a safe, knowledgeable, and well spread out tour. 0 complaints from me and it was just what I was looking for (get out of the city a bit, explore some new attractions/sites, connect with others, etc.). I recommend!
Don’t book small group! You will be on tour with people who paid 41$ less, for the same tour. The geo park and waterfall were excellent, Jiufen interesting but touristy and the lantern launch, kind of fun but the environmental impact a bit disheartening.
Excellent experience. Gary our guide was amazing. Excellent time management. Managed to do all the activities in time. Highly recommended.
Kevin was an amazing guide. The places we went to were excellent (highlight was the waterfall) and Kevin was patient and knowledgeable. The length of the trip was perfect for myself and my mum, as well as the air conditioned bus!! Thank you!!
I had a fantastic day exploring Taiwan with my guide, Chiara, and driver, Song. Chiara was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, making me feel comfortable and welcome throughout the entire trip. Song was an excellent driver, and I always felt safe and relaxed on the road. I enjoyed visiting the Yehliu Geopark, strolling through Jiufen, and launching a lantern in Pingxi. Ending the day at Shifen Waterfall was the perfect finish to a great experience. The tour offered a great mix of natural scenery, local culture, and unique activities. Chiara and Song made the day easy, enjoyable, and completely stress-free for a solo traveler.
Excellent tour with Kevin and our wonderful driver. It was great to see the villages outside of the city. Highly recommend!
A wonderful guide (Chia sp?). Good mix of scenery and old town. A good restaurant recommended as well.
Tony was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, helpful, and flexible. He shared great tips and insights, and happily added extra sights.. Highly recommended!
Wear comfortable shoes, a hat, shades, and bring cash and bottle water. The tour guide was very funny. He kept it entertaining
Full day experience of north east Taiwan's main attractions, lots of interesting things to see and an excellent guide (Emily)
Great expedience! Kevin was a great host; really enjoyed my time! Really enjoyed the sights and thought this was a very solid excursion!
It was a fabulous tour!! The guide was very personable, very well organised. and watched out for everyone all the time. He was also very knowledgeable about Taiwan and gave a great narrative as we drove between the four places we visited. I learned a lot!!
Very enjoyable. Gordon gave us lots of historical info. He was very professional and helpful. A must for first time visitors as it had something for everyone 😀
Molly was really fun and knowledgeable, and took us to so many incredible places! I really enjoyed the day and felt it was a good balance of structure but also time to explore. Such a great experience, would highly recommend!
Booked this for a day trip to see outskirts of Taipei, it was a great trip, we had Tony as our guild he described and answered everything we asked. We hit a big storm during this trip, had to detour and few other street delays, but we still get to see all the stuff on the itinerary, driver did his best to navigate thru the storms, yes we were all soaked. thanks Tony for the great trip.
James and Milton were lovely guides and super accommodating. We had a great time seeing these towns right outside Taipei and being in the AC van made all the difference
It was an enjoyable tour in green and scenic lands outside of Taipei. Enjoyed the variety of experiences.
Great, compact yet flexible tour. Tony was a fun and engaged tour guide. Thank you for a great day.
Jenny, our tour guide, was very organized, informative and energetic. The tour didn’t end until close to 5pm so it was a long day but it was very interesting and lot to see. Make sure to have local currency for the shops and food as the smaller vendors do not accept credit cards. Overall a great experience!
Overall a good experience, the sites themselves were good and nice to get out of the city. The guide was a bit hit and miss - nice person and informative but quite repetitive, and fell asleep three times in transit. Guide only has one job, entertain the guests for the duration of the trip, so falling asleep was a bit disappointing. Bus was comfortable, duration itself (while day) was fine. Plenty of opportunities to find food and refreshments at each stop.
A fabulous day out of the city and to get a better understanding of Taiwan in our short time here. Tony was a great guide who made the day feel effortless too. Make sure you bring cash with you for all the delicious food and stalls along the way. A real highlight of our trip 😊
Grace, our tour guide was amazing. And very attentive to our needs and any questions we had. Wonderful locations, expedient use of time, nothing felt rushed, or too long. Loved it. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Also, the lantern lighting was magical.
This day tour delivered what it claims. I booked a small group package tour via TripAdvisor. The tour agent provided a WhatsApp number and reply my query about pickup point immediately. Our tour guide Kevin was quite chatty and explained all the background of the places of interests. He offered to take photos at every locations. The cost of tour was reasonable, slightly lower cost would have been better. Admission fee for Yehliu Geopark and Chinese lantern flying (shared) was included but these are small cost. I will recommend this package tour for Taipei visitors.
This is an excellent small tour. Plenty of time at each stop and our guide was very informative and friendly!
The tour was great -all stops interesting and worthwhile . Tony was a fabulous guide-informed, engaging, intelligent
Very comfortable tour. Molly our guide, and Vince our driver did a fine job. The geopark was awesome, Jiufen was a charming town to explore. The waterfall was very nice, I could have passed on the lantern launching.
The tour was very good, the guide David is amazing. He provides all the information and make the tour very enjoyable
It was really fun! I definitely recommend it. Our tour guide, Chiara, was really informative and fun. She was so sweet and helpful. Our favorite part was the waterfall. Just make sure to wear sunscreen because there is some walking. The lantern part was okay. As cute and fun as it was, it was not environmentally friendly. We saw lots of the discarded lanterns up in the trees and the nature area. It’s a cute idea though.
Good trip, taking you to places that are hard to reach by public transport. Handsome Kevin was a great guide - lots of facts and jokes to keep the whole bus engaged
I booked this small group tour for my family including pre-teens. We had a great time! James was our guide. Our driver was excellent too. James was so knowledgeable, patient and organized. We learned a lot about the fascinating history of Taiwan and the sites we visited. There were restrooms at each stop and a chance to grab some great food. One of the best meals on our trip was a little noodle shop in Jiufen- lots of spots to get treats for people back home. The stops were stunning, from the otherworldly geopark to the mountains and waterfall. The kids loved the lantern stop. A consideration: think of booking on a rainy day or don't cancel for rain- we picked up some cute raincoats at the first stop and enjoyed a calmer experience. There was almost no wait at the Queen's Head and the moody sky pics without so many people were perfect, Jiufen had light crowds, the waterfall was more spectacular with the additional rainwater and there was no wait for lanterns. Highly recommend the tour!
This was a wonderful tour full of amazing experiences. Our guide, Kevin, was exceptional! So kind, helpful, and informative. He made the day so special. Definitely recommend.
We had an absolutely wonderful day exploring Yehliu Geopark, Shifen Waterfall, and Jiufen Old Street with Edison Travel. Our host, Mr. Gary, was phenomenal! He was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The sightseeing was amazing—from the breathtaking rock formations at Yehliu to the stunning waterfall and the magical atmosphere of the old village. Mr. Gary’s insights and warm hospitality really enhanced the whole experience. Highly recommend Edison Travel and Mr. Gary to anyone looking for a fantastic tour!
Our tour guide Kia was so friendly and helpful. The pickup location was easy to find. Drop off was at Taipei 101 or the same spot we met at. Bus driver always kept the AC cranking because it was so hot. It’s a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. All the locations were beautiful and I’m so glad we got to see more of Taiwan. Bring cash! Most places don’t take card here!
Personalized, friendly, delicious food at Vegetarian restaurant. Gary was knowledgeable. Suggested activities that were unique.
This was a fantastic tour, aided by cooperative weather. Mr. Su (aka "handsome kevin") did a great job narrating (but also giving people a chance to chat, rest, or enjoy the scenery), shepherding us around, and not being overbearing in marketing. The early start to the tour was well worth it as we seemed to beat (to some extent) crowds at all places. Sites were great--enjoyed all--and the amount of time allocating to each and the tour length overall was good. The lantern lighting was a special experience. Communication with the operator was a little slow at times, but a minor issue. This tour would not be good for small children or individuals with mobility issues. Tour bus could be upgraded (seats narrow and no plugs), but otherwise was comfortable and bus driver drove safely.
The lantern is the highlight. I really enjoyed the tour but I have bad knees so a tip is you must have a fitness level to climb between 6-8 flights of stairs to enjoy this tour. The bus gets you near the attractions but you generally have to do stairs or walk up a hill to get to the attractions. Why work around is to leave each attraction 10 minutes early to do the stairs or hills if you walk slowly. Otherwise, it takes you to the distant tourist attractions and you get to see a lot of Taiwan along the way.
