Your personal driver guide will pick-up you at your hotel / b&b in Taipei City.
Enter Taroko Gorge through the archway first. This large archway, inspired by traditional Chinese palace architecture, is located at the south end of Jinwen Bridge where it meets the Central Cross‑Island Highway. Its six-character inscription, written by the famous modern calligrapher Mr. Wang Chuang‑Wei, has become the highway's emblem since it opened. Today, it also functions as the entrance to Taroko Gorge, acting as both a landmark and a popular photo opportunity.
Enter the park starting at the visitor center to get an overview of Taroko National Park.
At the Taroko National Park Visitor Center, you can learn about the geological forces that shaped Taroko. Taiwan’s landscape has been uplifted by plate‑tectonic compression, making earthquakes common. The exhibits also show the before‑and‑after effects of seismic events—most notably the major Hualien earthquake in 2024, which dramatically changed the park’s trails and landforms.
Eternal Spring Shrine is built to commemorates the 226 personnel (military veterans) who died during the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway.
Tianxiang is located along the eastern part of the Central Cross‑Island Highway, about 19 km from Taroko Gorge. Here, the Dasha and Tacijili Rivers merge to form the Liwu River, whose long history of sedimentation and erosion has shaped striking multi‑terraced riverbanks. This spacious valley once bustled with restaurants, shops, and hotels, but after the 2024 earthquake, visitor numbers declined, and many businesses moved away—leaving behind a peaceful, almost untouched atmosphere. Keep an eye out for Formosan macaques roaming the area; their presence adds a charming wild touch to this tranquil mountain retreat.
Along the Central Cross-Island Highway, after passing Jiuqudong (Tunnel of Nine Turns), you'll reach Cimu Bridge (Motherly Devotion Bridge). This H-shaped hanging bridge features marble stone lions at each end and marble lotus stones on two sides. Beneath the bridge, a rock resembles a frog, formed from a black schist layer on top and white marble at the bottom. A pavilion built on this frog-shaped rock serves as a crown, constructed by late President Chiang Jing-guo in memory of his mother during the highway's construction. The Cimu pavilion area, located on the east side of the bridge and built by late President Chiang Kai-shek, also commemorates his mother, Mrs. Wang.
Xincheng is a village at the base of Taroko Gorge, known for its local Hualien snack stalls and restaurants. Its vintage-style photo studio makes an ideal mid-trip rest spot. If you have any dietary preferences, feel free to ask your driver-guide for local suggestions on the day.
Qixingtan Beach is a picturesque pebble beach located on Hualien’s Pacific coast, just north of the city. Its crescent-shaped shoreline, deep blue waters, and mountain backdrop make it an ideal spot for watching the sunrise and capturing photos. Visitors can enjoy cycling along the coastal trail, relaxing in pavilions, or strolling past vibrant houses and art installations. At night, the beach is tranquil—perfect for stargazing and waves watching. Note: Swimming is not allowed due to strong currents. Qixingtan is a must-see for those wanting to enjoy nature and serenity during a trip to Hualien. Before ending your visit, listen to the waves crashing on the rocks and take in the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean.
Your personal driver guide will escort you back to your hotel / b&b in Taipei City at the end of the tour.

Had a great experience with our guide Paul! He took us on the day long tour from Taipei to Taroko and did a great job figuring out when we could enter and navigating the construction. We had a great time with him and the car pickup/drop off at the hotel made it super easy
We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide Nicolas! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make our tour special. He introduced us to Taiwanese tea and shared interesting information about the local tea culture, which made the experience even more memorable. He also took amazing photos of us and captured beautiful memories from our trip. We truly appreciated his kindness, thoughtfulness, and extra effort to ensure we had a great time. Highly recommend him to anyone visiting Taiwan!
Paul went above and beyond to make this day special and memorable for us! We were a three generational family group and he accommodated everyone masterfully. His expertise and local knowledge allowed him to adjust the schedule to fit our needs, and he did it all with care and great communication. We can’t thank Paul enough for being an amazing guide!
Ben was a great tour guide, came with a cooler full of cold water. He was super friendly and informative on local traditions and what we were seeing. Would recommend to see a unique side of he island you don’t usually get
It was a really nice tour. Our guide Nicolas Ying took care of everything. He was really nice and knowledgeable. The tour was thoughtfully constructed. We enjoyed the day a lot and strongly recommend booking Nicolas to anyone visiting Taiwan.
Ben is a wonderful experienced guide and a great driver! He was very helpful and flexible, also suggesting nice places out of the itinerary. He actively took great pictures and shared them with us. Our group was extremely satisfied! The Taroko National Park is so convenient and a beautiful place to visit.
We had a fantastic day on our Taipei to Taroko Gorge tour. Jackson had a very nice van and shared many great sites with us during our visit. We saw evidence of ongoing repairs after the earthquake, but were able to see the main sites and attractions. All in all a fantastic day!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Taroko Gorge. Our tour guide, Hicks Wang, took care of us down to the very last detail. Whether it was specific questions on topics such as history, geography and culture, or recommendations for local food, he was always on hand. He was also particularly attentive to small details such as providing water and umbrellas. Despite the current state of the gorge, which was damaged by an earthquake in 2024, this tour allowed us to see everything that is currently accessible. From several suspension bridges, viewing platforms, pagodas and picturesque photo spots to a beach, it had it all. Our tour guide was so attentive and took lots of photos of us, ensuring this trip will remain a lasting memory. Many thanks to Mr Hicks Wang! Thao and Martin
Jack Chou did a wonderful job showing us around Taroko Gorge. Due to the 2024 earthquake, there are still limited times during which cars are allowed to pass through the roads. Jack navigated the times well and showed us what was currently viewable without any delays. He knows the sites for the good pictures even with current repairs being made.
We loved this tour to Taroko National Park and Hualien from Taipei. Junior, our guide, was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. He shared great insights along the way, planned everything perfectly and helped translate whenever we stopped at local shops. It was very enjoyable not having to plan anything and being picked up and dropped off right from our hotel. The vehicle was clean and comfortable for the long drive. Junior took us to the main highlights within the park and gave clear recommendations on walking trails and where to get food. Given the amount of driving involved and that the tour was private, it is well worth the cost. Thanks Junior! We highly recommend it.
We had a great tour with Junior to Taroko Gorge National Park. He knew exactly how to best manage our time around the construction traffic control points, so we could see all the sights with minimal downtime. Thanks!
Thank you to our tour guide, Bubble, for the wonderful trip to Taroko National Park. Although the park is currently still under repair, Bubble went out of his way to drive us to all the accessible viewpoints so we could still enjoy the scenery and take great photos. He was also incredibly thoughtful and considerate of our family. He made sure we always had water, planned plenty of restroom breaks, and even prepared snacks for us along the way. His attention to detail made the trip comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. We truly appreciate the care and consideration Bubble showed our family throughout the tour. We had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting the area.
Excellent guide. Many thanks to Jordan. Interesting tour, well planned inspire maintenance works taking place in Toroko park
It’s long day due to travel times. However worth the drag. Be prepared to climb and walk in the heat. Our guide was very accommodating and was happy to stop when we wanted.
Bubble was an amazing tour guide who gave us a great experience! Everything was timed out perfectly and we were introduced to all of the sights as Bubble discussed the history of Taroko. Even though most of the hikes are closed still, we had a great time and enjoyed no crowds and no admission fee. Highly recommend this tour, especially for foreign tourists and anyone with movement difficulties. Thank you Bubble, we had a great day!
Wonderful tour! Jack was an excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable tour guide. The ride was very comfortable. Jack took us to so many beautiful sights and provided lots of info about the gorge. Would highly recommend this tour!
This was a private tour, actually I was the only one in the tour. Caleb was my tour guide and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable about sites, history and everything in-between. Taroko gorge is amazing and we visited as much as was possible given the construction repairs after the earthquake (about 3 years ago). I highly recommend it!
The scenery of Taroko national park is spectacular. If you’re interested in natural beauty and stunning photo opportunities you won’t be left wanting on this trip. Our tour guide, Jack, was amazing - enough said!
Taroko Gorge is a spectacular spot. We enjoyed seeing a different side to Taiwan. Our guide and driver, Jack, was informative and fun to travel with. The private tour allowed for a very comfortable trip that we were able to tailor to suit us. Beautiful scenery.
Jack was a fantastic tour guide. Always attentive, informative, and knowledgeable. He knows all the spots to go and all the right ways to get there. Although the hiking trails in the park are closed post-earthquake, it is still open for driving tours and small stops along the way. Absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth it.
It was a wonderful day seeing Taroko National Park and other sites on the east coast of Taiwan. Jack was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and helped make the tour memorable. We highly recommend this tour even though it is a long day.
Very long day, mostly driving. 3 hours each way, + driving locally. Gorges are nice but not worth the distance. People should stay at least a couple days on site, and perhaps do local activities (beach, hiking)
My partner and I had a great time on this tour. Even though all the trails were closed due to the big earthquake in 2024, our tour guide, Steven, was still able to show us quite a few good spots to explore and take photos. Steven was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and didn’t rush us and let us take our time to enjoy the beauty of Tarako Gorge National Park. Highly recommended.
Taroko is a must see! We were going to explore taroko without a tour guide but we were so glad we booked a tour instead. Since the earthquake, there are many places closed and the road is very precarious. This tour such an awesome experience and so personalised. Our guide's name was Chouly and she was so good, knew a lot, took lots of great photos of me and my partner and was so considerate. Book this tour!
We had an outstanding private tour to Taroko Gorge and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and clearly knew all the best spots for photos and local food. He made the entire experience smooth and comfortable from start to finish. We would highly recommend this tour and would absolutely book with them again.
Having private car tour was totally worth the experience, especially around Taroko with the windy roads and many stops. Our guide James was very prompt, knowledgeable and pleasant the entire trip, and also had many favorite food recommendations (eg hand made mochi). We also lucked out with sunny weather most of the day.
This tour was a wonderful way to see Taroko National Park. I’d recommend doing this tour and not trying to see the park on your own due to the 2024 earthquake damage. Jackson was our guide and he was absolutely wonderful!
This is a must do tour in my opinion, getting away from the city and out to nature was a true gift. Junior was the best guide! Showed us all the amazing photo spots, told us about the history, and gave us time to enjoy the scenery. Long drive to and from Taipei but with a personal driver and the beauty at the destination its absolutely worth it. 5 STAR TOUR!
A very scenic tour of the Taroko National Park
We had such a great experience on this private Taroko National Park tour. Our driver, James, was incredibly kind, friendly, and made the entire day feel relaxed and personalized. Instead of just hitting the typical tourist spots, he also took us to some hidden local gems that we wouldn’t have found on our own. One of the highlights was when he even got us handmade mochi, such a thoughtful and memorable touch that really made the experience feel special and authentic. The pace of the tour was perfect, and we never felt rushed. We would recommend this tour!
Just such a spezial place. And it makes all the difference to have a private Guide that shows you around and can adjust to you personal needs. Thank you Jordan
Junior was a great driver he had excellent planned breaks and suggestions for our family. The dumpling lunch spot was probably the best meal we had in Taiwan! The gorge was wonderful with so many photo opportunities.
Our tour guide was Steven and from the start he was outstanding! He gave us an itinerary the day before that laid out everything we were going to do and the rough timeline. He picked us up right at 7am and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to all the great places we wanted to go and gave us great background on the area. He gave great recommendations for lunch and made sure we were back on time. I cannot recommend him enough! Thanks Steven!!
Our guide Steven was an excellent driver/guide for our trip to Taroko Gorge. It is a beautiful place and we enjoyed seeing many gorgeous overlooks . We also made stops along the way and Kevin was open to suggestions. We really liked eating at the tribal restaurant and seeing the beach right next to the airforce base. We could see many fighter jets coming and going right over head. That was really cool. It was like being at an airshow. It was our first trip to Taiwan and this tour great.
Excellent tour. Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable. However, Taroko gorge was heavily damaged by the earthquake two years ago so some hiking trails are closed.
Great trip to see Taiwan outside of Taipei. Our tour guide, Jackson, was so knowledgeable and pleasant. We got so much our of this tour.
Steven L looked after us fantastically. He was a great guide. Explained everything very well. We got to see all the sights and had plenty of time at each stop. There is no doubt the best lunch choice is the Indigenous set meal. The food was great and the setting and staff were very welcoming. We’d definitely recommend this day trip to anyone. Taroko gorge is simply beautiful
If I could I would give 10 stars for this amazing experience. Hicks Wang Really went out of his way to allow me to experience Taiwanese culture, nature and history. Very knowledgeable was able to answer every of my million curious questions. Knew all the secret spots, photo hot places. Took care of safety, comfort and adjusted to every wish. Full of humor and kindness. The places we have visited were truly stunning and spectacular. Canon, river, sea shore and cliffs gave me to true experience of Taiwan variety. Even if one of the places in the itinerary was closed to look due to road works the guide made sure to compensate by taking me to even better view spots. The restaurant suggested was delicious and local - giving another glimpse of indigenous Taiwan people’s lives. And it was not pushed tourist spot but authentic and really tasty place. Thank You for everything- this experience will stay with me!
It was a very pleasant day, more than we expected …….He answered us every question we asked. And was very polite…
We had a great day with our driver and guide Steven. The tour started with a drive to Taroko Gorge. Although all of the trails and some of the roadways were closed due to earthquake damage, it was a very worthwhile trip just to take in all of its scenic beauty. We made several stops within the park for photos and did a short walk up to the temple. After a few hours, we went to Xincheng where Steven dropped us off for lunch at a noodle restaurant which was very good. Finally, the last stop was Qixingtan Beach with its grey pebbles and beautiful scenery. Steven was a great guide, and communication was very easy. He explained anything we needed to know about Taroko, and gave us different lunch options. Thanks, Steven!
Amazing tour with really interesting insights. A lot of beautiful places and a nice way to discover the nature of the island. I highly recommend it!
really helpful to go with a guide while Taroko Gorge continues to rebuild from the earthquake. We saw solo travelers unable to enter due to ignorance of the current restrictions. We were able to see many gorgeous points in the forest and HuaLien.
Such a great day trip tour from Taipei. Our guide Steven communicated ahead of time and was very prompt on the day of the pick up. He provided the itinerary beforehand and gave us a rundown the morning of on our way down. Despite the national Park being closed in many places because of the earthquake from last year, our guy was able to take us to so many beautiful spots. We had enough time to take photos and enjoy the scenery. For lunch we went to an old street area and he gave us a lot of great recommendations about what to eat and made sure that we were all good. Super enjoyable all day trip with our limited time in Taiwan. Having a private tour with pick up and drop off from our accommodation was also a huge bonus because we were able to maximize our time. Highly recommend!
An excellent day out. Well worth the long drives to and from Taipei. Our Driver / Guide, Junior was very helpful and knew exactly where to stop / park in The National Park. Many of the trails are still closed due to the 2024 earthquake but he was able to make it a great experience and we had time to walk / take photos and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The whole tour was convenient and hassle-free from pickup to drop off. Caleb was a wonderful guide and took my family to ideal spots for pictures. The weather was perfect and we had a memorial time.
I 100% recommend this tour! Our guide was Paul and he was the best tour guide EVER, hanging out with him the whole day was a highlight of our whole Taiwan trip. The area is still beautiful too with the repairs going on, and it helps to go with a guide if you're thinking about doing it because of these conditions. It is a long day but we would do this trip all over again!
I went on the Taroko tour with Steven Huang, and he was great. He was informative, friendly and always looking out for my preferences. Everything was easy — from pickup, to sorting out meals and all of the photo stops. Note all of the hiking trails are closed because of the 2024 earthquake, but Steven made that up with a lot of stops for selfies. We also grabbed lunch at an indigenous Taiwanese tribal restaurant which is one of a kind. Five out of five stars!
I was a little concerned before, as it’s not fully reopened, but I was rest assured as the day went on. Mr den was a great tour guide, showing me all the amazing sites. Definitely a trip to remember, it’s worth it just for the cheeky monkeys 🙊 Thanks for a lovely day
Steven was knowledgeable and a great driver! We enjoyed a full day of exploring what we could see in Taroko and hope to go back when the trails are open!
