Keelung Shore Excursion: Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Houton Cat Village Private Tour

Highly recommend this tour - Yehliu Geopark has amazing natural formations with good interpretation. Jiufen and Keelung night markets are vibrant with exciting food options.

Sadly for the price you pay, the quality of the experience we received was very poor. Eddy, our guide, did everything he was supposed to (picked us up and took us to the sights) but due to either limited English, or possibly laziness, didn’t bother to explain where we were going, logistics around drive times or offer up anything unless being promoted by ourselves. Eddy clearly knew the information and knew what we were doing but didn’t make much more than minimal of effort to engage with us. Sadly, we spent a large part of the tour just following him about 3-4 meters behind, trying to keep up as he ticked off where he needed to take us. He was more of a taxi driver than a guide. Sadly, for what we paid, the quality of the guiding was no where near what we had hoped hence the low score. We requested a partial refund due but this was refused. I’d recommend seeing Keelung with a private guide but not with this company.

Eda was a wonderful tour guide! She was knowledgeable about the history of the tour locations, had wonderful recommendations on how to navigate the crowds to find the most enjoyable experiences, and made sure we stayed on schedule while leaving things flexible. I really appreciated the fact she also stopped at some scenic locations along the driving routes rather than just focusing on getting from one location to another. This helped me get the best experience possible! Thank you Eda!!!

Our guide was Robert and he showed us beautiful and interesting sites in Keelung. The absolute BEST was Yeliu Geopark. Don't miss this place if you visit. Robert did a nice job guiding us. We communicated before the tour date, he was right on time and I could identify him easily. His car was clean and comfortable. He had waters available for us. He gave us useful and interesting information and our day was full and fun.

Jennifer was a wonderful guide. We met early to avoid the tourist buses and Jennifer was waiting at the port. She drove us first to the Yehliu Geopark and we were among the first visitors of the day. It is a beautiful site. Next we went to the Golden Waterfall and then to Juifen. At Juifen we had tea at a tea house and then with Jennifer’s help we tried a number of local delicacy’s for lunch. Our last stop was Houtong the cat village. We had a great day and Jennifer was a perfect guide. She looked after us and was able to answer all of our questions. We highly recommend this tour.

Jennifer was wonderful! She communicated a couple days before the tour, the day before (and was very flexible when we had to adjust times), and the morning of by spending photos of herself, the car and the sign with my name of it. She was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and a safe driver. She pointed out the best food vendors in the night market and even got one to open early and cook for us because we had to get back to the ship. She went above and beyond and was a delight to spend out day with her!

Our guide was Jennifer. Her communication was great, reaching out before we arrived via WhatsApp to give us the itinerary & was flexible when we wanted to add a stop at the last minute. She arrived at the cruise terminal over an hour early, and sent the photo of both herself & her vehicle, which was a nice touch. She greeted us in the terminal with a digital sign with our name on it. She had bottled water and a special snack waiting for us in the new SUV that we toured in. Jennifer gave us the history of the places we visited enroute, and accompanied us on foot at each location to provide further insight, interpret with shop owners & act as our photographer (no selfies needed). We had a great time from start to finish.

Yehilu Park, Jiufen, the Golden Waterfall and the Ying/Yang Waters were well worth it. The Cat Village was not very interesting unless you love cats and interested in coal mining 100 years ago. Great to try the local street food and authentic Taiwanese dishes. Oscar was an informative and flexible guide. Highly recommend.

Great tour with guide Chia Jung. Excellent English. The itinerary and timing was very good to get back to our ship in plenty of time. Lots of history and tips along the way. We had a very good time.

We had the opportunity to view beautiful landscape of the coast shaped by wind, rain and sea. We stopped in a beauty of a waterfall. On the way to the mountain. We had a really good lunch in Jiufen in a restaurant with a beautiful view of the valley and coast below the small town. In the cat village we also visited the small museum of the coal factory, really worth the time spent. Our driver and guide Ken was really really great and helpful and support us with our small baby. Reccomanded!!

The tour was professionally organized and our guide Chia Jung was great. He speaks fluent Japanese, Mandarin, English and Minnan! I particularly loved the Houtong Cat Village and the cats. Overall a great experience and highly recommended.

Jim showed us some fantastic places. He had to contend with big crowds but we enjoyed ourselves. Had to ask to be taken back to ship after an exhausting 6 1/2 hours. Thanks

At first I was choosing between Yehliu and Jiufen and having a hard time...until I found this tour ! Really enjoy seeing those view and old street vibe. Cat village is exclusive from every travel agency, highly recommend this one!

Houton cat village is a great place to take a rest. There are lots of cut and fat cat you can take lots of pictures. I’d like to go old streets when I am travelling in different countries. Jiufen is one of the most impressive place. Yehliu is also fascinating, the rocks are breathtaking. Last but not least, Miaokou night market is the best one I have visited in Taiwan, mouth watering food... it’ll forever in my memories!

We had a wonderful day in Yehliu. Beautiful ocean, fresh seafood, and cute rocks. Choosing to came to Taiwan was really the correct decision.

Sad to know that “ queen’s head” is vanishing due to the erosion. But also glad that we get to see it RIGHT NOW! MIAOKOU night market is the best! Delicious seafood and all that, highly recommended!!!

Our driver-guide led us to Guei Hou Fish Harbor. Amazing, those alive fish, shrimp, and shellfish just put in front of the restaurant. What you had to do was only pointed out which fish you wanna eat, and the chief would cook for you! What fresh seafood we never saw.

Yehliu Ocean Park offers dolphin and sea lion performances and is regularly invited from Russia to showcase world-class international high-altitude diving performances. The weather started to rain in the afternoon, so we went to the Marine Life Exhibition Hall, an aquarium with diving caves with more than 100 underwater creatures such as green turtles and toads.

Yehliu and Pingxi are classic, but Houton Village are totally new! It’s like exclusive! Highly recommend this private tour! Lovely 🐱

We headed to Kokonoe town, which is located in the front section of Jiufen old street. The buildings are very retro. There are accommodations and restaurants in Kokonoe town. It is very convenient for travelers to rest here. It is also the place we will stay tonight. The tour guide worried that my grandmother is old age and has limited physical strength, so we early ended the Taipei private tour tonight.

You could play sea activities in Jiufen、flied your own dreamy sky lanterns or hiked. You could also stroll around its streets and historic lanes or just sat there and enjoyed its special cuisines and food stands. What a good life!

There are many lanterns hanging around the Jiufen old street. I love these lanterns so much, they are mysterious and…cute for me. We took many pictures in the narrow old streets with lanterns. And of course, we didn’t forget the delicious food in Jiufen.

We bought a Pingxi lantern and use writing brush－a Chinese traditional stationery to writing down our wishes and dream. My kid drew a dragon and my wife wrote “Peace and Lucky”. Then it’s my turn. I wanted to challenge Chinese characters! Ah…I admit that Chinese characters are very difficult for me but beautiful. After we finished, we standing on both sides of the railway.”3, 2,1, Let it go!” We watched our sky lantern rising slowly and farther and farther away from us. “God has heard our wishes,” my boy said.

This was our first visit to Taiwan, and we had a great experiences to visit Yehliu and Jiufen in this 8 hour tour. Our tour guide was professional and full of passion. The taro balls were sweet and chewy, we also tasted the peanut roll icecream and we really love it. Thanks Nick as a guide give us this great experiences. We would like to visit Taiwan again!

The day with Jennifer was a perfect day. She fulfilled all our wishes and adapted the tour accordingly. We were in Keelung as part of a cruise. She picked us up at the port and drove the tour with us. It was just beautiful and Jennifer is a wonderful companion. We can fully recommend these tours.
