Yehliu is a cape on Taiwan’s northern coast best known for Yehliu Geopark, where sea erosion has shaped honeycomb and mushroom rocks such as the iconic Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The area is mostly flat but offers little shade, so sun protection is advised during summer.
Feel transported to this former gold-mining mountain town—once built by the Japanese and now a maze of history-rich lanes and alleys. Most of the charming streets are stairways lined with snack stalls and teahouses, and they can get quite crowded. (Tip: If you’d like to experience Jiufen at sunset or dusk, book a departure after 11:00 AM. This will make Jiufen the final stop, giving you time to enjoy the sunset views and evening lights.)
Shifen Waterfall is Taiwan’s most famous cascade, fed by the Keelung River, and measures about 20 meters (66 feet) high and 40 meters (131 feet) wide. Reaching the viewing platform takes about a 30-minute walk, partly shaded and crossing a suspension bridge.
This old street is right next to Shifen Station in the Pingxi area, where an active railway line runs straight through the market. Visitors launch sky lanterns on the tracks, pausing whenever a train rumbles by.

Our Full-day Northern Taiwan tour with our guide, Hicks Wang was amazing! Hicks contacted me the day before to confirm our pick up time and location. He knew all the best photo spots and short cuts to take to avoid the huge crowds at YehLiu. Took us to an Ice Cream Burrito shop in Shifen and even though it sounds weird, you gotta try it with the cilantro. Launching the Sky Lanterns was a blast and we finished the day seeing the sunset at the top of Jiufen. Highly recommend asking for Hicks and ask him to tell you the story of how he got his nickname.

Booking one of the Northeastern Taiwan private day tours with a baby seat went very smoothly. Steven met me at my hotel with the baby seat already installed and we were on our way promptly. I was able to tweak the itinerary slightly to see what I wanted at a pace that accommodated Baby’s needs. Steven was informative as a guide and incredibly patient and kind with Baby. 10/10, definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful time with Vincent- who is very knowledgeable outside of what is required for the tour. He answered all our questions, and we learned so much about Taiwan. He was a joy to talk to, and the pacing of the tour was wonderful; we were able to take breaks and stop for pictures as much as we wanted. He has a lot of interesting stories to tell, so you will never be bored during the (slightly) lengthy drive. He even puts on music to match the mood, including relaxing spa music so we could sleep in the car. You are safe in Vincents care!

We had a fantastic trip with YOLO/ Vincent Lee. He was punctual, knowledgeable and one of the nicest guides we have ever been on a trip with! He shared a lot of information about Taiwan and its culture. The tour was so well organised, spaced out, and informative. He had extra fans, rain jackets, water bottles etc. ready for us to use. Vincent took the best photos throughout the trip, offered to stand in line for us near the queen’s head, took us to the shops we wanted to go to in Jiufen, and went the extra mile every step of the way. Cannot recommend the tour and Vincent Lee enough!

Vincent was great. Very kind, knowledgeable about the sites, the food, well planned walk routes and he knew everyone at each stop which made the visits smoother and more interesting. He’s a great translator when we needed to communicate with someone who didn’t speak English. James was an interesting and informative guide. Always checking to ensure i was comfortable. The views from up high in the hills was amazing. The Juifen tea houses and market were interesting. In the summer months you should bring a sunshade (umbrella)- its surprisingly hot.

From the very beginning, Hicks Wang was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. He made our entire day feel effortless and enjoyable. One of the biggest challenges for us was finding food because we are vegan, but he went above and beyond to help us find suitable vegan options and made sure we were able to enjoy local foods without having to worry. He was also amazing at taking photos! He knew all the best spots and angles for photos and patiently helped us capture beautiful memories throughout the day. We got some of our favorite travel photos thanks to him. He even surprised us by buying us local fruit to try, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. It really showed how much he cared about making sure we had a great experience. He was knowledgeable, warm, flexible, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. Even though we booked at the last minute, he made us feel like everything was perfectly planned. We highly recommend this tour and especially our driver guide Hicks! If you are short on time I highly recommend this guided tour. There is no way you can do this all on your own without a car in one day. Nicolas was our driver/tour guide. He is also very knowledgeable about types of oolong tea.

This full day, private tour was amazing, especially since we started in the afternoon to ensure that when we got to Jishan Street that we could see the lanterns. My tour guide, Roger, was amazing as he gave me so much information about Taiwan as a country and also the places that we visited. I would absolutely recommend this tour and if you get Roger as your tour guide you’re in good hands.

Nicolas Ying did an excellent job as driver and tour guide, Explained in details all the places and its history to my son in English, my mom in Taiwanese or Mandarin. Customized our tour toward our preferences. Very efficient in visiting all the famous places and helped with photos and videos. Yeliu geo park was very unique. Shifen water fall was another unique place. Really fun writing wishes and launching them with the sky lantern. Stopped at a nice place for lunch with great views. Had excellent teas at lunch and Nicolas introduced me to his favorite tea shop in Taipei where I picked up several unique and excellent tea to enjoy.
This was one of the highlights of my trip to Taiwan! The itinerary was fantastic and covered some of Northern Taiwan’s most beautiful destinations. We visited Shifen Waterfall, explored the charming streets of Jiufen, and wandered through the incredible rock formations at Yehliu Geopark. Every stop offered amazing scenery and great photo/video opportunities. Lunch was delicious, the transportation was comfortable and well organized, and the entire day ran smoothly from start to finish. A huge thank you to my tour guide, Nicolas Ying, who truly made the experience exceptional. He was friendly, knowledgeable, organized, and had a great sense of humor. We took the Northern Taiwan Tour and it was fantastic to experience nature at its best, each stop different in its own right.
