I had a wonderful evening. Eva was friendly, funny and answer my every questions I had. She enlightened me a lot about the food culture in Taiwan, and religious/political subject. I had the most amazing time. Thank you Eva !

We had an overnight layover in Taiwan and decided to take the chance to see finally see the famed Raohe night market. With such little time, I knew I didn't to be stressed about knowing where to go so booked this private tour. Eva was such a great tour guide (I've been on many great tours with Viator and she is among the best guides I've encountered. Even before we arrived she messaged us and helped us figure out how to make the most of our time in terms of getting into the city from the airport. We not only spent time in the markets but also gave us historical and cultural context of its relation to the temple next door. We would not have otherwise happened upon all the information just exploring ourselves. Thanks so much, Eva!
Truly an experience to visit a night market in Taipei even with a festival going on at the same time nearby that made it very crowded. The sites, the smells, the food you don't want to miss the experience. It was nice to have Sonya to explain the smells and what the foods were, a lot of it we had never seen before.
Eva was amazing! Our flight was delayed and Eva still made sure our tour was perfect! She made it easy to know exactly where to meet her, and she was right on time, despite our delay. We do a lot of food and market tours, and Eva is one of the very best guides we have met. We learned a ton, and enjoyed so many amazing foods we otherwise might have missed. Highly recommended!
I am beyond disappointed with the unprofessionalism displayed by Withlocals/ Viator during my recent trip to Taipei. I booked a private city night tour, and while the companies were more than happy to send multiple automated texts leading up to the day, they completely failed when it actually mattered. • Zero Notification: I received no email, no text, and no call regarding a cancellation. • Stood Up: I arrived at the meeting site on time. I had even messaged the tour guide an hour beforehand to check in—silence. • Hidden Status: It wasn't until the tour start time had passed that I had to go into my TripAdvisor account, click "Contact Tour Operator," and only then did a note appear saying it was cancelled. • Wasted Resources: Because of this lack of courtesy, I wasted significant money on round-trip cab fares and, more importantly, I wasted my limited time in Taipei. If I had been notified even a few hours prior, I could have pivoted and booked another experience. Instead, I was left stranded. To send marketing or reminder texts but fail to send a cancellation notice is a poor way of doing business and shows a total lack of respect for the customer’s time and money. Avoid this service if you want a reliable itinerary.
Daphne was so patient with us when we were 10 minutes late and didn’t make us feel bad at all! She was super knowledgeable about tourism and answered all of my questions. Then we went to the Night market and she picked amazing flavor profiles, even though my stomach was a little upset from the airplane food on the way to Taipei. I wish I could’ve spent the weekend with her learning more about this beautiful nation. Thank Daphne!! I wish I could say more but you just have to go! Mazu will bless you for many lifetimes!
Jessica was so awesome and generous. She gave us an amazing tour of the night market in Taiwan. Love her!!
Daphne gave us a great evening walk in Taipei. She provided plenty of information and help before we arrived and was spot on time. She was very informative on all aspects of the walk and was well organised for transport between the venues visited. We highly recommend recommend her as a guide.
A highlight of our stay in Taipei! Jessica was our tour guide and was so sweet, entertaining, and knowledgeable! Loved touring the Raohe NIght Market and the Michelin recommended Fuzhou Black Pepper Bun!!! (DELICIOUS!) And the beauty and spiritual experience of Songshan Ciyou Temple!
I highly recommend this tour with Garen. She was easy to communicate with in advance and gave perfect instructions where to find her. We combined a temple and night market and the entire evening was seamless and fun. Thank you so much!
For me, it’s great when a tour guide is knowledgeable, personable, and has good English language skills. Cola the fit the bill in every category.
Cola was a great guide- she shared her knowledge about the Ciyou temple and took us on a fun tour of Raohe Night Market and we ate our way through it until we were stuffed and happy!
Cola is an amazing host. She made sure we were comfortable, had fun, and learned a lot. We left the tour more full and more comfortable exploring the city on our own. We highly recommend this friendly, casual and fun tour!
Jones was my guide & I felt he looked after me well. Explained alot of history, tips and tricks. Seeing Taipei and night had a special magic that the day didn't have. If you're booking this - highly recommend to request for Jones!
Cola was an amazing guide whom was very patient as I ran a few minutes late due to traffic from the airport. I travel frequently and would highly recommend this experience for anyone whom would like to get a flavor of the local culture through the guidance of someone like Cola whom grew up in Taipei.
I had an amazing time on the "Magical Evening in Taipei: Private City Tour." Since this was a solo trip for me, I really appreciated how friendly and knowledgeable my guide was. She made the experience so comfortable and enjoyable, sharing interesting facts about the city and its history. One of the highlights was her fantastic recommendations for vegetarian food at the night market—it was absolutely delicious! If you're visiting Taipei and want a personalized, memorable experience, I highly recommend booking a tour with her.
Great tour of the temple and night market. We felt like we were walking around with an old friend. Cola is super personable and very knowledgeable. We had a great evening trying foods at the night market and exploring the different levels of the temple.
We had an amazing time touring Taipei with Agnes! We enjoyed our experience so much that we booked two tours with her on separate days. Agnes is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about sharing both the history and current trends of Taipei and Taiwan. In addition to the popular tourist spots, Agnes introduced us to hidden gems that only a local would know, tailored to our interests and requests. We highly recommend exploring Taipei with Agnes! We look forward to returning and discovering more areas and facets of beautiful Taipei with her in the future.
Cola was an amazing guide!! She was thoughtful, informative, and kind. She spent as much time as I needed at Longshan Temple explaining most of the gods and the prayer process. Then we were lucky to catch the light show on the river near the Rahoe St Night Market. We tried all kinds of food and enjoyed the market She’s a fantastic guide I highly recommend choosing her!
Yi Hsuan (Kate) was a marvelous guide to all things Taipei. I had only a 10-hour layover in Taipei and decided to explore the city. Yi Hsuan was able to arrange a tour just for my interests—with a tea tasting and visit to an ancient tea factory that is still operating, a stroll through the old neighborhood, a visit to the Temple of Love, a fascinating night market, and even drawing lots and checking my fortune at the famous Longshun Temple. Throughout the whole tour she was kind, knowledgeable, and willing to share her views on life in Taiwan. It was a fascinating experience and I would highly recommend her to my friends and family. What a truly great night in Taipei.
My night market tour with Jones was the highlight of my quick weekend in Taipei. He is a pleasure to spend time with and is incredibly knowledgable — he shared so much about the history of the markets and shops. I also learned a lot from him about Taiwan and Taipei. He brought me to so many great spots, and I got to enjoy delicious food along the way. I had such a great time and would absolutely recommend a tour with Jones. Truly a wonderful experience.
We were a very last minute reservation, but Jessica came through and made it happen! She was a wonderful and energetic tour guide and introduced us to the Taiwanese culture! Her love for her country and her heritage shined through as she taught us Taiwan! ! It was a night my husband and I will not forget and we are already planning our next trip to Taipei ! Hopefully Jessica will be available to give us more tours in Taipei!
What an amazing adventure to see Taipei through Garen’s eyes. She was able to paint the full experience of Taipei with history, culture, overall vibe and at the same time enticing the four senses all in just a few hours. I walked away wanting more so I booked another tour with her the next day and it was even better. Belly full with Taiwan’s signature dishes as well as loaded with images to please Instagram for days. You’ll be pleased to be in the hands of a true professional guide.
This was a quick night as my Uber driver dropped me in wrong location so the first half hour was finding the correct spot. It was also raining so had to navigate around the night market to stay dry, but Jessica was a trooper. She was entertaining and gave great history and stories to the Temple, the night market, rainbow bridge and Taiwan in general. She suggested food I should try and was always on point with the exception of an ice cream dish I wanted and was fabulous. I was stuffed when we were done and she was helpful in getting me back to my hotel on the app without incident. Would highly recommend but would change the address meeting point on the website and ticket. Maybe have the temple as the meeting as everyone knows where that is! Kudos and thanks again! Will come back again and go hiking!
We had a great time with Daphne exploring Songshan Ciyou Temple, Raohe Night Market, and the Taipei 101 area. Not only did we see beautiful sites and eat great food, Daphne gave us historical information and ensured we were having fun the whole time.
Jones as an excellent guide for my first night in Taipei. Though With Locals, I was able to express my preferences for a private tour. Picked me up at my hotel in his car and we started at a high vantage point for an overview if the city geography and history. Jones' explanation of temple customs and culture expanded my knowledge. At the night markets, Jones started with Midwestern boy with familiar foods and then expanded to the less familiar. Extremely helpful to have Jones translate with the owners of the food stalls, as choices that cost $1.50 have options for fillings, seasonings and sauces. With Locals web site and phone app are both very solid and smooth. Once you book, I had frequent and helpful text exchanges with my guide on What's App. Highly recommend this booking platform and this guide.
Jessica took us to the Shilin Night market and we tasted lots of of great (and not so great) foods. She was good fun and explained everything. We will always remember the stinky tofu!
Daphne was an excellent guide on our tour. She gave us clear directions on where to meet and during the tour she was knowledgeable and energetic! You can tell she loves her city and was very knowledgeable about the history and on trendy places that are of interest to tourists! She answered all of our questions and gave us some great insider advice! I would absolutely go on another tour with Daphne.
Having never been to Taiwan & Taipei, these tours were definitely the way to go. Jessica was our host/tour guide & she established a warm, welcoming rapport right from the start. We learned so much just in touring the Songshan Ciyou Temple & how it’s history is intertwined with the Raohe St. Night Market. During our night market walk-thru, Jessica was always attentive for any questions or concerns we had as we tried different foods. Our last stop was the park at Taipei 101 & the Taiwan Lantern Festival was happening while we were there. Jessica was kind enough to take lots of pictures of us throughout the tour which we really appreciated as we are not the kind of travelers who stop to take pictures to document everything but rather the ones who enjoy the moments. When we come back to Taipei, we hope to book more tours & request her as our guide.
Daphne reached out well before the tour to see if I had any questions and the tour started on time. She accomodated many of the questions during the experience and even gave recommendations for after the tour. The duration of the tour was met with a strict military-level attention. Though, I am a bit conflicted on what score to give based on my experience with this tour. I have been on different tourbylocals activities around the world and support them but the latest experience is a bit of a thinker. I could be a downer and point out that only one snack was supported while the listing said two snacks and one drink, and that the tour did not cover the songshan station or the memorial hall at all when the listing said it would - but this would all be devil in the details. Was I bored - nope, Daphne was very engaging and never let a moment of boredom creep in. But did I enjoy myself - I am not sure coz we didnt see much other than a few square kilometers and I kept getting the sense that Daphne had somewhere else to be. I think the issue here is not with Daphne who served her function but the itierinary perhaps which was too short to be indicative of anything that Taipei can offer (there are bigger better night markets and temples within a few blocks, a couple of addiitonal stops near Taipei 101 area would have provided cultural context to Taiwanese history and way of life, etc. etc.). I wouldnt give a negative rating for this tour but it still left me wanting more of something which I have to go elsewhere to fullfill in Taipei. Maybe this tour is the best option within this price range? - I havent researched that yet. You can definitely find positives out of this tour but maybe I am focusing on the empty half of the glass. Anyhow, if you are a first time in Taipei and would like a small appetiser of what lay in store ahead, feel free to go on this tour with Daphne. It might just do the trick for you.
We loved our tour with Daphne even on a rainy evening. She was prompt, organized, and a wealth of information about Taipei, the Taoist region, and the night market. , Truly enjoyable tour. Try the stinky tofu. It's actually quite good despite the name.
This is my first visit Taipei after a decade and I wanted to see other side of Taipei. I was glad to join the journey of exploring Taipei in the night with Daphne. She brought me to this beautiful Taoist temple (Songshan Ciyou Temple), explained about the rituals and different gods at the different floors of temple. Then we explored the Raohe night market, enjoyed local delicacy. Great part of this market is that it's commonly visited by both local and travelers, so one really gets to see how locals enjoy the food market. Given I enjoy whisky, she introduced me very nice whisky bar, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Daphne for making my stay more fun..
We had great time with Daphne, learned a lot about Taiwanese culture and religion, had some amazing food at the local market and ended the tour with some local craft beers. She's super helpful and positive. Couldn't recommend her more!
We had a great tour with Judy and David, including two markets, a temple, architecture, and night photography. David is clearly a highly skilled photographer and patient teacher. As someone that had some basic training with SLRs and film 20+ years ago I was worried I could not keep up. I had a lot to learn and remember and David took the time necessary to understand my skill level and tailored our trip as well as his guidance accordingly. He also provided significant guidance on how to use software to enhance the camera work. Additionally, he and Judy were wonderful in showing us more than just camera work, they also guided us to the best options in obliging our request to try some local flavors as we walked through the markets. A memorable, enlightening, and thoroughly enjoyable experience, and at just the right pace and patience for our six year old. We highly recommend booking them if you like/love photography and want to get a little local flavor of Taipei! We captured some amazing photo memories of our first visit to Taipei!
This was my first time booking a private tour with locals.com and it won't be the last. Daphne, our guide, was personable, on time and very informative. We loved the tour of the Taoist Songshan Ciyou Temple, Raohe night market and the Taipei 101 shops area.
Chia-Chein is an excellent guide! We met her for the night market tour with our son, age 12. Not sure how much he'd enjoy it, but from her previous reviews knew she'd make it fun for him! We toured a temple and learned the history which is remarkable. Then on to street food. Bless her, she had a tough group with us because I'm a super picky eater, our son was super jet-lagged, and my husband frustrated with us both\uD83D\uDE02. However, she was super kind and patient as we found items we all could enjoy!! She took photos for us which is extra special as other than selfies we couldn't get all three of us in one photo. She completely tailored the evening and even dropped us back to our hotel. We totally recommend her to be your guide!!
Daphne our tour guide was friendly and very helpful. She showed us around the street market and couldn't have been more informative of local traditions and delicacies that were on sale. The temple was amazing and again Daphne was very informative showing us all around the temple and explaining the meanings of all the different gods it was all very interesting.
Notre guide nous a vraiment très bien expliqué la culture des habitants de Taipei. Nous avons aussi dégusté des mets locaux. Belle expérience
