Itinerary
Dihua Street and the Dadaocheng district have witnessed Taiwan’s rich history of international trade and commerce. From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Japanese colonial period, Dadaocheng flourished as an important trading hub, and its commercial legacy has been passed down through generations. Today, traditional businesses, Taiwanese specialty shops, historic buildings, and contemporary cultural spaces coexist along the bustling streets of Dihua Street, creating a unique blend of old and new. Join us on a journey through history as we visit Watsons Pharmacy, Dihua Street Post Office, and the Visitor Center. Admire the beauty of the historic shophouses and discover the stories and legacy of the generations who came before us.
Step into Yongle Market, a vibrant hub of Taiwan’s textile culture, where rows of shops showcase a wide variety of fabrics, patterns, and sewing materials. Discover the stories behind Taiwan’s textile industry and experience the local craftsmanship that keeps this traditional trade alive.
This century-old temple in Dadaocheng offers a glimpse into Taiwan’s traditional religious culture and local beliefs. Visitors can pray for peace, prosperity, and good fortune. Today, many young people also visit the temple to seek blessings for a happy love life and career success.
Dadaocheng Wharf is a historic and vibrant waterfront destination that reflects Taipei’s rich cultural heritage. Located along the Tamsui River, the wharf offers a glimpse into Taiwan’s maritime history while serving as a lively hub for modern riverside leisure. The nearby container market is a popular spot to unwind in the evening, with waterfront cafés, street food vendors, and live band performances on weekends. Whether you’re enjoying local bites, listening to live music, or simply taking in the riverside views, it’s a wonderful place to relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Maggie was a great and informative tour guide! She understood that we were interested in history and architecture so she made sure to share several interesting facts as we walked around. I do wish that there was less of a shopping component to the second half of the tour, but I suppose we were in an area with dozens of shops and some tourists like to purchase souvenirs and gifts
Our guide was excellent for this tour. We learned a lot and enjoyed our time. Vickey had clear English and was a wealth of information.
Thank you Mr Waseda Zhuang for an engaging and interesting tour of the area. His recommendations for the area are spot on and includes many places that we would have missed like the Peking Duck shop. Highly recommended!
Isabella was terrific, knowledgeable and organized. Highly recommend this tour. From temple practice to herbal medicine to fabrics, very interesting.
Outstanding walking tour with a true local. His experience and knowledge of the area was greatly appreciated and added enormously to our enjoyment.
We had a wonderful tour with Alex who explained many aspects of Taiwan's history, showed us tons of hole-in-the-wall stores and restaurants, and recommended tons of great food (some of which we ate on the tour and some of which we came back for seconds later!)
My tour guide, Alex was great. I really enjoyed the entire Private Dadaocheng Walking Tour with him. He has a wealth of knowledge for the area. He knows the local history and culture very well. It was truly fun and enjoyable for me tour the area with him. Most importantly, he is a very caring person. After the tour ended, he even made sure that I got into my taxi safely before we parted our ways.
Booked a 2hr private walking tour for 2 with May and it was a evening well spent walking through Dadaocheng and learning about it's rich history and architecture. May was very enthusiastic and we liked that she brought us to a place to buy Taiwanese tea. She was patient and accomodating, and even recommended places to buy souvenirs. The entire experience felt as if a friend is showing you around her favourite places. Highly recommended for anyone who is into history and culture!
Alex Feng is an excellent tour guide. He arrived early and made a good impression of being friendly and enthusiastic. He gave a very interesting tour of the Dadaocheng market area with some history of Taiwan and of the merchant culture plus sampling of the herbal and culinary delights. We were fortunate to witness a street performer who magically changed multiple face masks. At the end of the tour he offered his cell phone number in case we needed any assistance during the remainder of our stay.
Worth the experience visiting this historic quarter of the city. It's not just about the touristy side of a place but also its past as well. My guide May Ei was particularly knowledgeable about the topic.
Fun and educational walking tour with a very nice guide! Toured tea and herbs district. Saw an interesting temple and the waterside
Our tour guide Gina did a great job showing us Dadaocheng! She was able to seamlessly juggle between addressing the Canadian guests in English as well as my parents, who spoke Mandarin. While we had been to Dadaocheng several times before, it was always brief and singleminded, with the purpose to buy or eat something. This was the first time we had a leisurely stroll through the area, and Gina shared many interesting details about the architecture as well as led us to explore new shops that we would have never thought to visit. Was a great time facilitated by a great guide!
We had a wonderful tour with our guide Wayne (aka Pooh). He grew up in this neighborhood and was able to explain a lot of the history. It’s a fascinating neighborhood with diverse architecture, in addition to the bustling street stands full of amazing food. Wayne was also exceedingly generous with his time and went out of his way to help us with suggestions on where to eat and what to do. Great tour for an unbeatable price!
It was my first time join the waking tour with my classmates. Although I have been Dadaocheng many times before, I never knew its history background or visit the local tea shop and museum. As well as seeing an event that was held in front of a temple! All and all, this was an interesting and informative learning experience~
Nice tour, informative and engaging. There is a lot of history in the area, and the street is beautiful.
It was a nice and easy walking tour with local guides who show you their treasures and important historical places of Dadaocheng. Also, it helped to better understand the culture by having a local guide you around the area.
Thanks to our guide Zhuang, we learned about the city and its history. By having someone from the local area tell me about it, I was able to learn about Taiwan that I couldn't understand using guidebooks alone.
Chuang Deming’s guide was really wonderful and we learned a lot about the profound charms of Dihua Town that we might have overlooked on our own. The history of Daejeon is very interesting and I wanted to come back to this place. The visit to the Xiahaicheng Mausoleum was also a valuable experience thanks to the teacher's careful commentary. I really recommend this tour to get to know Taipei better. Thank you very much.
