We booked the Two Double Beds Room with Water View, which features a private balcony and an in-room hot spring tub. From the moment we stepped into the room, we were impressed by how spacious it felt. The high ceiling created an open and airy atmosphere, making the room feel even larger and more relaxing. The beds were incredibly comfortable—I slept like a baby throughout the night. The room was also thoughtfully stocked with a complimentary minibar, including soft drinks and bottled water. We especially appreciated the local touches, such as Yilan’s famous Tongue Crackers (牛舌餅), along with coffee capsules and premium TWG tea bags. What truly sets this hotel apart is its exceptional hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the service exceeded our expectations. As we walked toward the entrance, staff members were already waiting to greet us and immediately assisted with our luggage. The check-in process was smooth and comfortable, with seating available instead of having guests stand at the front desk. We were promptly served refreshing iced tea while checking in, which was a thoughtful touch after our journey. One small but memorable detail really stood out. A staff member noticed we had some trash in one of our bags and politely asked if she could dispose of it for us. It was such a simple gesture, but it reflected the attentiveness and genuine care that defined the entire stay. After check-in, a staff member personally introduced the hotel’s facilities and gave us a brief tour before escorting us to our room. Throughout our stay, every employee we encountered greeted us warmly with a smile, making us feel genuinely welcomed and valued as guests. Breakfast was included with our room, and we thoroughly enjoyed the generous buffet selection (photos attached). The wide variety of local Taiwanese specialties and Western dishes made for a satisfying start to each day and perfectly complemented our stay. Overall, we absolutely loved our experience at The Westin Yilan Resort. The spacious room, comfortable bedding, thoughtful amenities, and outstanding service made this one of the most enjoyable hotel stays we’ve had. We genuinely wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely look forward to returning in the future. Highly recommend for romantic getaway, intimate friends’ trip, or solo splurge. Moderately recommend for a family or kids trip or small corporate retreat. Service was absolutely outstanding. Special shout out to Michael Ho at the front desk. Outdoor onsen area and in-unit outdoor garden suite soaking tub also absolutely top notch. Just as good as Jiaoxi, Beitou, etc but more intimate and less touristy. What a wonderful experience! Highly recommend and I might return!
What a great experience it was! The hotel rooms were really large, and came with its own onsen. But the public onsen was extremely enjoyable - men and women were separate, and each gendered space had 3 indoor pools, sauna and steam room, and an outdoor onsen. The staff were also incredibly hospitable and made the trip an even better one! Special mention to Michael, Rebecca, Tiffany and Joseph for making this a truly memorable stay!
Consistent comfort/ disappointing dining We’ve always loved the atmosphere here, which is why this was our third stay at the Westin Yilan. As expected, the room and the private hot spring were perfect—consistent with the high standards we’ve come to enjoy. However, the experience took a sharp turn at dinner. To be honest, the dinner buffet was a major disappointment. The selection was surprisingly limited, and several dishes didn't seem fresh. The presentation was quite messy; for instance, the sashimi was unevenly sliced and looked unappealing. To add to the frustration, the service was off—one waiter was speaking quite loudly while seating guests and answering questions for an extended period of time. What made it more frustrating was the pricing. We paid the same "weekend rate" for a weekday buffet, expecting the premium experience we’ve had in the past. Since this was our family road trip leading up to the Lunar New Year, the lack of quality was a letdown. We love the property, but the dining definitely missed the mark this time.
This was a family trip where we stayed in a Family Room redeemed with Marriott points. The room featured children-themed decorations. The high ceilings created a spacious feeling without being oppressive. A nice touch was that when the lights were turned off, there was a "starry sky" effect on the ceiling. The room was surrounded by trees, and the air quality outside was excellent. Pros: 1. The architecture is distinctive, and the landscaping is beautiful. The overall atmosphere is excellent. 2. The front desk staff were professional and polite. We also had a dedicated staff member guide us through the check-in process/escort us to the room, which was a huge plus. 3. The quality of the bed and duvet was excellent and very comfortable. Having a private hot spring (onsen) tub in the room was very convenient. Cons: 1. There is no Executive Lounge. It is replaced by a Happy Hour at the café, but the food options were very limited, and the drink selection was scarce. 2. The standard check-out time is 11:00 AM. Even as a Titanium Elite member, I was only granted a late check-out until 12:00 PM. This is a significant difference compared to most other Marriott properties that typically accommodate late check-out requests. 3. Breakfast options were limited, and the dining area was small. The mackerel and other meats were very dry and tough. 4. For a resort hotel, the property grounds are not very large, and the recreational facilities are few and small in scale. 5. The water in the outdoor hot spring foot bath was cold. When I asked the staff, they mentioned it might be under maintenance, but there were no maintenance signs posted on-site.
