It was really a wonderful experience at Sonnien Hotel. The hotel was not new but well maintained. The service was exceptionally good! A special shout out to Emma at the front desk who always made us feel welcome. She was always helpful and went above and beyond to assist in any queries and issues that we encountered. Thank you Emma!

This hotel had incredible and friendly service from the front desk to the kitchen staff. I especially want to thank Tiffany and Emma. From day one, we arrived early to the hotel and needed to store our bags and Emma greeted us with a smile, helped stored our luggage, and recommended a popular breakfast place while we waited for our rooms. Tiffany arranged car service and provided concierge assistance in booking tours since we did not really arrive with a clear plan. Since we went to visit friends who provided us food to take back with us, we needed somewhere to warm to food. Although, we booked breakfast buffet with our stay, we did not want to have the food go to waste. The kitchen staff accommodated and also helped warmed the food. The rooms were modern, roomy, and comfortable and the breakfast buffet included vegetarian options. I could not have asked for more.
Cockroach in Executive Room, Refused Drinking Water, Zero Customer Service!!! Our stay in the Executive Room at Sonnien Hotel was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. Between the cockroach in our room, the refusal to provide drinking water, and the appalling customer service, this hotel completely failed to meet even basic hospitality standards. The most shocking issue was finding a cockroach inside our Executive Room. For a hotel charging premium rates, this raises serious concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. What made matters worse was the hotel’s unbelievable policy on drinking water. The Executive Room only comes with four small bottles of water per day. As a breastfeeding mother traveling with a baby, I requested additional water from the front desk and was flatly refused. The staff told us no extra water would be provided under any circumstances. We were forced to leave the hotel in the middle of the night, during heavy rain, to buy our own water from a convenience store. Our arrival experience was equally unacceptable. It was raining heavily, and because the hotel lacks a proper sheltered drop-off area, our driver had to stop on the roadside. We were traveling with two elderly parents, a baby, and seven large suitcases. Despite seeing our situation, no staff offered assistance, no umbrellas were provided, and when we specifically requested umbrellas, the doorman dismissively told us it was “not raining heavily” and refused to help. The poor service continued during check-in. Although we arrived first, the hotel ignored us and served a tour group that arrived later. We were left waiting in the lobby with elderly parents and a crying baby while staff attended to others. Most disappointing of all was the complete lack of accountability. We reported every issue above, yet not a single staff member showed genuine concern, apologized, or attempted to resolve the problems. The attitude throughout our stay was indifferent, dismissive, and unprofessional. A hotel can make mistakes. What matters is how it responds. Sonnien Hotel failed at both. If you are traveling with children, elderly family members, or simply expect basic cleanliness, hospitality, and customer service, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. There are many hotels in Taipei that value their guests. Unfortunately, based on our experience, Sonnien Hotel is not one of them.
We recently finished off a one-night stay at the Sonnies as part of our 24-hour layover in Taipei. Beds: Firm is probably an understatement. The only thing harder than this bed is a thick sheet of steel. Even sitting ontop of the quilt on the bed you can sense how hard it is. Then ironically the pillows are really soft. Bathroom: Shower and bath are both fantastic. Room: Nice and spacious and good to see the mini bar (though small) is inclusive. Wi-fi is good. However, the sound proofing of this room is something to note. At 3:30am on the morning of our checkout, there seemed to be a bit of a domestic between a father and son. The son was banging and shouting at the top of his lungs, before an interaction occurred. Once the dust settled I went out of the room to find a man on the floor with his wife waving me off to say it was ok. Wasn't really the way I expected my morning to start off with. Service: While we let into our room much earlier than expected, it was the checkout that was disappointing. We had to leave around 6:30am, prior to having breakfast that was included with our stay. My wife asked if she could use the coffee machine to just put a coffee in her takeaway mug as we checked out , however the request was declined. I think there could have been room for a bit of grace, given it isn't such a big deal just to use the coffee machine. Wasn't like we were asking for a takeaway container of breakfast. Location: Close to MRT.
Our room was clean and functional with powerful AC and lots of outlets. The bathroom was very good as well. It's a 5-minute walk to nearest convenience store and under 10-minute walk from Metro station. Breakfast was below average, though.
