Great Roots Forestry Spa Resort

Clean, natural environment with lots of room options, including bungalow style houses on the mountain side. Hot spring and swimming pools, conference hall, souvenir shop, children's park and similar amenities and services. Extremely nice and helpful staff. Everything you would want from a quick escape from the city. Recommended.

A beautiful forest, definitely make sure to do the hike! It is quite steep, but worth it, and not buggy at all when I went. We did get bit by a few mosquitoes near the gift shop, and the pool, which made it hard to enjoy, but the bites didn’t last too long. I was sad that we could not detect the minerals in the hot springs, it mostly felt like regular water, so I didn’t get much relaxation as I usually do with hot springs - and this was the reason I chose this resort, so it was disappointing. But there were lots of pools at different temperatures, and the dry & steam saunas worked their magic! They had required swimming caps to borrow, and you have to leave flip flops in the locker room FYI. The included breakfast buffet had a ton of options and yummy Asian food. The Chinese banquet restaurant was good, but resort pricey. The Banyan Cafe had a very limited food menu. So we had to find lunch & dinner elsewhere mostly. It was about a 15-20 minute wait for an Uber, which took about an hour to get to Downtown Taipei, about $30 USD or so. The closest town of Sanxia about 20 minutes away we found affordable and yummy sushi, but most of the other restaurants in the area just looked OK. The service was great and some were English-speaking, but I found the room fixtures and facilities could be better cleaned and upgraded. It’s strange that many rooms only have twin beds, and not beds for couples, so you cannot cuddle at night - we stayed in a Price quad room that had a cute platform for the kiddo to play. FYI The whole resort is on a hill, so we had to call the shuttle bus to come up and down often because of some leg injuries. A lot of signs were only in Chinese, so we had to google camera translate many things. There is a fun arcade and play area for kids, and the dinosaur theme makes the vibe a family resort for kids who like dinosaurs. :)

Love this hotel. Comfortable bed and good bathroom. Room size is big. Full facilities plus hiking just next to hotel. The spa is open day and night. Short walk out to river and shops.

Ok, this is truly something special! Our daughter lives in Taipei and this was a great getaway in the nearby mountains. Fun for kids with the dinosaurs and the Koi ponds. Hotel was clean and very comfortable! Great value and lovely hike right on the grounds! A must! Oh and the hot springs are really cool! Just remember to bring your swim cap, which is required to swim here in Taiwan. 🇹🇼
