I chose to try Shangri-La Tainan for a two-night stay as I was considering exploring alternatives to my usual hotel chains, such as Hilton, Radisson, and Marriott, and potentially building status with Shangri-La in the future. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the very beginning. Upon entering our room, we noticed an unpleasant smell resembling a damp, sweaty gym bag. We reported the issue to the front desk immediately. The staff assured us that they would look into it while we went out for dinner and mentioned that a room change would be arranged if the problem could not be resolved. However, when we returned, there had been no update, and the smell remained unchanged. The air treatment device in the room was also showing a red warning light and appeared not to be working properly. We reported the issue again the following morning and finally received a new room at around 3 p.m. Although the new room also appeared to have required some air treatment, it smelled acceptable. For a hotel in Shangri-La’s category and price range, losing most of the first day and night of a two-night stay to an unresolved room issue was particularly frustrating. What made matters worse was the complete lack of an apology or any gesture of goodwill from the hotel. Given the circumstances, even a small gesture, such as complimentary breakfast, would have been a reasonable way to acknowledge the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there was another disappointment on the second day. I had specifically looked forward to using the sauna and swimming pools in the evening, but these facilities were closed due to a technical issue and cordoned off with a notice. This was another reason I had chosen the hotel in the first place. Overall, this was a disappointing Shangri-La experience. The room issue was handled too slowly, communication and follow-up were lacking, and the hotel made no apparent effort to compensate for the inconvenience or recover the guest experience. With expectations and prices at this level, I would have expected considerably better service and attention to detail. Rather than encouraging me to build loyalty with Shangri-La, this stay has made me more inclined to stick with the hotel chains I already know and trust.

On 9/20, while we were checking in and waiting about five hours for our room, the Lobby Lounge was the perfect place to hang out. The staff member was so nice, friendly, and helpful, and he spoke English very well. I feel bad that I completely forgot his name, but I remember that he used to live in Australia. He made our long wait much more pleasant, and we really appreciated his kindness and great service!
We stayed on the 30th floor and view over the city and Taiwan Strait is stunning!. This hotel keeps its grandeur and its very convenient that you can access FAR EASTERN Department store located in same building but certainly needs renovation and upgrade coz it was built in the beginning of 90ths. i guess most of carpeting and furniture need to be renewed. i guess owners know it perfectly. Staff is amazing all speak decent English ( but we speak Chinese so we dont have any problems). We love Shangri-La in Taipei too coz its not far from my kids international school where they used to attend. i guess Shangri-La Taipei was built almost same year in 90ths but its kept more "up-to-date". i visited Sauna its pretty cosy and swimming pool is nice. Location is great just in front of Tainan TRA station. we walked around right to Chikan Tower and Grand Matsu Temple
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful hospitality and excellent service we received during our stay. Every member of the team was kind, professional, and attentive, making our time here truly special, specially to the team at the Westin Club (Jane and rest of the Horizon Club team are the best!). Drinks were great. Food could be improved, as they do in Shangri-La Taipei. We felt special, and that is important for us. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for all the small details that made our visit unforgettable. We will cherish the memories and hope to return in the future
We stayed for three nights in a Horizon Club room. Upon arrival, we were initially assigned a room on the 28th floor. Unfortunately, the room had a very unpleasant odor. After we reported the issue, the hotel responded promptly and relocated us to another Horizon Club room on the 30th floor. The replacement room was much better, and the odor issue was completely resolved. We appreciated the hotel’s quick response and willingness to address our concern. The hotel facilities were another highlight of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the gym, swimming pool, and sauna, all of which were well maintained and added great value to the overall experience. The only area that could be improved is the food selection in the Horizon Club Lounge. While the quality was good, the variety was somewhat limited, particularly the fruit selection, which consisted of the same three types of fruit every day. A greater variety would enhance the lounge experience. What truly made our stay memorable was the outstanding service provided by the Horizon Club team. Every staff member was warm and proactive in offering made-to-order cocktails. A special thank you to Matthew for his exceptional hospitality, as well as the entire Horizon Club team for making us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return in the future.
