The most amazing views. We had a great experience despite all the rain. Our guide was very informative

Beautiful countryside, massive vulcano rocks, bumpy road but great fun, good inside information and a really good driver
It started great, new experiences, meeting new people. It’s a bit adventurous and reminiscent of Jurassic Park. Mountainous landscape is beautiful. Feeling like you just want to sit down after 4 hours of standing. No toilets so for the ladies don’t be proud of squatting in nature🤣 Pleased I did it.
Absolutely incredible experience. It’s a real adventure into the heart of the island crossing so many rivers, seeing so many waterfalls. Definitely worth the price. Our guide also let us stand up in the 4x4 vehicle which made it more of an adventure. We did get a bit of rain but it didn’t ruin the fun. I would just say bring waterproofs and towels. Our guide had fantastic knowledge too and took incredible pictures for everyone on the excursion. You won’t be disappointed.
Amazing experience in Tahiti, guide was excellent, couldn’t fault the trip - would thoroughly recommend to see the heart of Tahiti.
Very, very bumpy and can get very wet. Guide was really good at blowing the conch especially at the lake stop in the crater. The bakery is in tact a supermarket but is reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended.
Excellent tour of the interior,Yancik was an incredible driver and guide! Definitely a great value and so memorable to see the interior of the island. Highly recommend!!
Highly recommend. The scenery is spectacular. But be prepared for a long day of a rough road. Our guide Yanni was great so was the other guide.
I booked last minute when I realized Papeete was effectively closed on Sunday with nothing else to do. Breathtaking views of tropical valleys and waterfalls. The ride isn't nearly as bad as expected because we were encouraged to stand. So, we weren't seated where our backs had to absorb all the shocks. It may be a different story if poor weather kept the roof closed and we were forced to sit. In either case, make sure you are physically capable of standing and balancing for hours, or can take the rough ride on your seat. I have a bruise from when I was not holding the bars as diligently as I should have and slipped into them. These are not criticisms. The tour and guides are excellent. I just hope people know what to expect.
View was amazing!! Guide was Great!!
Very nice trip with a competent team. Even if the weather was not optimal, it was an eventful and adventurous trip. We can definitely recommend and the tour is an absolute "must" to experience the island of Tahiti,
Traveled with another couple. We definitely got what we paid for. As expected ride was very rough through the center of the island. What was disappointing was the scenery. We were on bench seats in back of a truck. Intermittent rain prevented us from removing the cover and because we were seated facing each other, it was difficult to view scenery and very uncomfortable. The tour company couldn’t do anything about the rain but the seating arrangements were extremely uncomfortable for the lengthy ride. There are no birds or really any animals of any kind to view and location of lunch was where the tiny waterfall pool was located. Not an attractive site for swimming and very limited time allocated. The audio recordings were of poor quality. We learned nothing about the island because we couldn’t understand the recordings. What was most disturbing about this tour was that my husband and I - and some others in our group- felt unsafe. Our driver was observed by my husband at least twice looking down at her phone with no hands or one hand on the steering wheel. Sometimes our driver was smoking as well and the smoke blew back into the bed of the truck where we were sitting. The road was unpaved and dotted with potholes- as expected. It was muddy, narrow, uneven, no guard rails, often edged by a cliff on one side. I would have wanted a driver whose complete attention was on the road. I would not recommend this tour. We didn’t feel safe.
Any one doing this make sure you have read the criteria. The road is very rough, the scenery is very good. Our guide was very helpful . It rains 300 days a year, so be prepared, be fit and healthy before you begin.
We really enjoyed the day, but were unlucky that it rained, so we couldn't see the view of the lake. Luckily, no dinosaurs! Much thanks to our guide.
This was a wonderful experience with breathtaking scenery. The guide was very friendly, kind and knowledgeable. Definitely pack a raincoat, it’s a bit wet up in the clouds.
Bumpy, at times misty and rainy, but you're traveling into the mountains of Tahiti, into the clouds. Fantastic experience, good view of nature, beautiful waterfalls.
Nice trip to see the inner part of the island. Unfortunately, we couldn't cross the entire island as advertised in the intinerary due to a landslide which blocked the road and had to go the same way back as we came after half of the tour. Nice scenery, but no views across the island. Most of the time the tour will follow the valley road. Higher up the mountains it gets cold and rainy (prepare for it!). Lunch can be bought at the supermarket just before the tour starts.
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We stopped at a delicious bakery to pick up lunch, and although the trip was incredibly scenic, we unfortunately encountered drizzly rain and misty conditions. As a result, we weren’t able to see the lake or enjoy a swim. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic trip, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. And yes, the road really is as potholed in parts as suggested!
It was amazing. Our tour guide was really nice and catered to both English and French speakers. He was very informative. Definitely a must do, to see more of Tahiti. The drive was very long but definitely worth it. Would 100% recommend.
The visit was scenically spectacular, even in less than perfect weather. Above all, it gave a flavour of the real Tahiti, which is nowadays obscured by the urban bustle of Papeete and the coastal sprawl that surrounds the island’s exterior. Pick-up was prompt and in the exact spot advised. First stop was to an excellent bakery: I had brought along my own vegetarian sandwiches just in case, but needn’t have bothered, since nice veg lunch options were on sale at the bakery. I was the last to join the group so had the front passenger seat of the 4x4 instead of an open-air place on the back of the truck. But the view was still good, and I had a more comfortable ride, given the very poor state of the road across the island (37 km of very bumpy and mostly single-file dirt track). After skirting the north coast for a few km we turned inland, climbing almost immediately. We had many ‘programmed’ photo-opportunity stops, and the guide was happy to stop anywhere on request for a photo, or to let passengers take a quick toilet break in the greenery. The picnic stop was beside a plunge pool where members of the group were able to go swimming, and the guide provided fresh fruit to accompany the otherwise self-paid lunch. The route crossed many fords, skirted river valleys, pencil waterfalls, green lakes and the high peaks of the caldera. We traversed the spooky road tunnel in the centre of the island, saw freshwater eels and passed by one of the island’s main hydro-electric plants. Mosquitoes and other biting insects were hardly noticeable. For the expert driving, knowledgeable guiding and fabulous scenery the trip was well worth the expense and totally safe. The only drawback was that advance communication with the company was a little haphazard, and they seemed to have lost my reservation and pre-payment, though this was eventually sorted out.
Awesome experience out tour guide was very welcoming and made sure everyone was enjoying the fun!! It is a bit bumpy so just beware.
Be sure to read the exclusions. The trip is very bumpy. You have a choice of sitting which is not good if you have back or neck issues or standing which is not good if you have knee issues or your arms are not strong enough to keep you from banging into the sides as the truck lurches from side to side due to deep potholes. The swimming has a steep entrance and the guide will forbid you from going if he thinks you are not fit enough. As per the description: Not recommended for travelers with back problems Not recommended for pregnant travelers No heart problems or other serious medical conditions Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level PROHIBITED for children under 3 years old PROHIBITED or Not recommended for over 65s too much shaking PROHIBITED LUGGAGE SUITCASES ETC FORBIDDEN to people who do not like nature FORBIDDEN to people in bad moods, stay at your hotel The views are great, but the ride is taxing. As per the description, if you are not young and fit, maybe rethink going.
The views and scenery were spectacular! Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable - these things were wonderful about the tour. However, the road is incredibly bumpy for the duration of the drive (approx 6 hours) which became quite monotonous and uncomfortable after a short while. While this is out of the control of the operators, it did put a bit of a dampen on the day for me.
The trip was fantastic - we saw a part of the island that it seems is much less traveled. Based on what I saw there was maybe 100 people a day that take this trip. Vaitea was an excellent host - friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating- we had a mixed group - my family spoke mainly English, another spoke mainly French, and a couple with the husband speaking mainly English but the wife fluent in both French and English. Vaitea was able to accommodate all of us seamlessly and had great energy! I would certainly recommend having the top off of the truck so you have the full panoramic view. Loved seeing the eels which proved to my family they exist after a visit to Source de Vaima the day prior where we didn’t see any!
Wow Amazing! If you get a chance do this tour. I know everyone loves the ocean but when in Tahiti Island do this tour. It is truly a Jungle Safari tour minus the animals but the beauty of nature and the construction of this wonderful island is amazing and beautiful. Viator was a great guide stopping for photos long enough and giving us the background information of the culture.
An action packed day of adventure. We had the perfect day in Papeete and the weather couldn’t have been better. The views were amazing and our lunch stop and swim was perfect. The perfect way to spend a day getting to see the island from the inside out 👌😊
Stunning views all along the way, with lots of waterfalls as well. Yes, its bumpy, believe the warnings! But its also part of the fun, and we had a great adventure. Go see the interior, which 99% of visitors never experience!
This was so much fun! The road was bumpy. But the truck was really comfortable. We stood the whole time. What a great way to see the interior of the island. So many waterfalls!
The tour was very good but I felt been cheated for paying $80 usd 10 minutes ride from Mahana Lodge to PPT airport with our two carry-on size luggage. Specially when we arrived at Mahana Lodge (we were the last couple for drop-off) I asked multiple times how much it would cost for him to give us a ride to the airport and I will pay him now and he (the tour operator) replied very friendly, not to worry, not to worry, no traffic now, pay me at the airport. After arriving at the airport I asked him how much do I owe you, he said 8000xpf or 80usd, no choice now but to pay :(
Great experience but be prepared to have all your teeth rattled! Guide was great!! You will need massage or chiropractor when done
Such a great tour! Beautiful landscape and a great activity for a day in Papeete. Lots of great local knowledge and stories shared. Yes it’s bumpy and you’ll come back a little bruised but completely off the beaten track and worth it.
So cool! This was a unique way to see a different side of Tahiti. We drove through town to get to a dirt road and then took dirt roads and 4x4 trails through the mountains. We saw beautiful waterfalls, amazing flora and fauna, eels, chickens, got to cool off in the river and eat a picnic lunch (they stop in the morning and you can purchase food from a bakery to take for the picnic). Mato was a great guide and we had a great time! I took too many pictures and videos. Take their suggestions for bug spray and sunblock seriously. Got a little burned and got bug bites because I forgot to reapply
Wow - what an experience! Our driver was Mato - friendly and very experienced and safety oriented, - you’ll understand why this is important when you go. This is not a ride for the meek, those with fear of heights, or who need to be pampered. The views were spectacular and at every turn. Because the road is so basic (single passage, mostly gravel/rock/boulders, potholes (small - craters), extremely steep (some grades more than 20 or 25%), tons of stream and other water crossings, and because there is so much to see, it is at a pleasant slow pace (you wouldn’t want to go faster even if you thought you could). We stopped at a nice place beside a river for a refreshing swim and lunch (you bring your own), and Mato had fresh, naturally ripened fruit for us as well. As we expected, it rained up at higher altitudes in the mountains (bring a rain jacket with a hood, don’t bring anything you don’t want to get wet unless you bring a small dry bag to keep it in (small: there is not a lot of room - 8 people sitting knee to knee in the back of a pickup that has benches on each side.). When not on the main Papeete roads leading to the mountains, everyone stands on the bench seats (barefoot-no shoes), holding on to the ‘roof-rack’ bars that run down the middle and each side of the truck. It’s actually pretty comfortable standing (you definitely want to stand to be able to see well) because Mato took the time to slowly navigate the road obstacles, and there is so much to see, and all the jostling keeps you flexing leg/core muscles. In a nutshell - my wife and I would/will definitely recommend this adventure (rain and all) and would definitely book it again if we are fortunate enough to return to this beautiful island.
10/10 once in a lifetime experience. Trust me you won't be disappointed. I went into this not expecting much but wow I was impressed.
It’s the road of a million VERY DEEP potholes!! We really enjoyed the entire excursion and our guide was fabulous. We are in our 70’s and it was still good!!
This was an amazing experience. The scenery was breathtaking. Also the ride itself was really fun. Only thing is we didn’t see one dinosaur. Looked like we should have 🤣.
What an amazing adventure through the mountain of Tahiti. Definitely remember to bring a rain jacket. You will get rained on😂. Our guide was very friendly, funny and knowledgeable of his Tahitian history. Be prepared for lots of pot holes, it’s definitely better to stand on top of the seats. The inner island was just breathe taking. Pictures could never do it justice. This is a must do trip.
This was a great way to see the interior of the island, I really enjoyed it, great for a solo traveler IMO.
Great trip traversing the island following the road “track” which supports the islands hydro electric system. Wonderful views as you travel thru the main tahiti-nui volcanic crater. Good way to see another side of tahiti away from the beaches and populated area. A full day trip well worth doing.
This was a very fun excursion. You see the whole center of the island which is really difficult to get to on your own. Our guide was friendly and funny. The ride was super bumpy once you go into the island, so we were standing for about 5h on the truck - a bit exhausting but worth the adventure! There's not really any walking around, so we came in flip flops and light clothing that was okay to get wet (no cover).
Excellent experience and the mountain views were stunning. The guides were very informative and friendly. The fresh water basin was an excellent stop to have a dip
Super nice views! Our driver was very nice and friendly, would definitely recommend to get nice views of the island!
Loved the tour, one of the best. The stop to buy lunch was a bakery. Excellent sandwiches and pastries and very reasonable, took cash or credit cards. Guides were very knowledgeable. Close to 8 hour tour. We rode through the middle of the island which was amazing. So glad we did it. Highly recommend even though it was very very bumpy at times it was so much fun as that was part of the fun. Please read the description if you have balance issues or back problems or physically impaired you may want to avoid. Most of my photos were too large to download.
It has already been said, but be prepared for a very rocky, strenuous ride. Sometimes you bump the handrails with your ribs, and your knees and ankles have to work to keep your balance. But, it is a great way to see parts of the island you would never see.
Very nice experience, have never seen so many waterfalls, guide was incredible. Road is a bit bumpy but nothing you can’t handle or need to focus on.
We took the whole family on this 4x4 mountain and waterfall adventure, and it was absolutely amazing! The scenery was breathtaking, from lush valleys to crystal-clear rivers and hidden basins. Every moment felt like an adventure, and our guide made it both exciting and fun. Such a beautiful way to experience the heart of Tahiti, we loved every second! Highly recommend this tour for families looking to explore beyond the beaches.
This tour is everything advertised and more. The pick up spot was easy to find and the guides were on time and ready to go. We drove across the island, right through the middle of the cauldron of the volcano. Gorgeous views. The stop at the river was well timed and needed as the day was sunny and hot. It is bumpy, as described. Our guide was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Definitely remember sun screen, bug spray and water.
Wonderful experience. Our guide was fantastic! Bit of a bumpy ride but absolutely worth it! So many beautiful things to see on the island.
Awesome tour , I have never seen so may waterfalls in 1 day. Standing in the back of the 4x4 was so much fun
Unique experience! You have to go into this tour with an open mind, it’s unlike any other tour I did in the best way possible. This is not a standard tourist tour, yes you will see stuff, yes you’ll take pictures, and you’ll learn a lot about Tahiti but the most fun aspect is the experience itself, being on a bumpy road in 4x4 going where few others go, that’s super fun and with an awesome guide!
