Awesome excursion! Rainu is a wonderful guide. He was very informative about the Tahitian people and culture. He was funny and personable. Breathtaking views. You will see parts of Tahiti that most people will not see. Very bumpy road but so much fun. Totally enjoyed this tour. Rainu tries so hard to make sure everyone has a good time. Thank you for all that you do.
Really enjoyed our excursion. Great guide with a lot of interesting local knowledge. Amazing scenery and worth the rough roads. The guide did an excellent job keeping the ride as smooth as possible.
The guide was just great. Told us a lot about the culture. The scenery was even more spectacular. Road was a little rough
We had a great day with Tamatea. He was a wonderful guide and superb driver who safely navigated some pretty rough roads. It is clearly outlined that these are bumpy roads and they aren’t kidding. Some areas are extremely difficult. Most in our group chose to stand in the back of the truck since that felt a little better than the constant bouncing while sitting. The area you cover is stunning and we hardly saw any people. Lush rainforest, numerous waterfalls, lakes and wonderful narration about the area, culture and folklore. Tamatea was lovely and good natured sharing with us his knowledge and life in Tahiti. We enjoyed the swim and wonderful fruit platter we received. We were able to make a stop to purchase lunch and water before heading in to the remote areas. That was very appreciated. All in all a great day. Our only question was why the others in our group were picked up at their accommodation but we were advised to meet the truck 20 minutes walking from our spot. Tamatea was great about getting us back to our accommodations after the tour when we were exhausted from a long day. Recommended if you want to see a different side of Tahiti.
Great day, great guide, local knowledge, had a sick time!
We had a blast! Our pickup was on-time and the drive though the inland valley was through exquisite scenery. The swimming place was wonderful and water was wonderfully cool. A wonderful full day trip on the island. We would all recommend this to others.
The guide was very friendly however the trip was so full 3 people needed to be inside the truck. This took the fun out of the experience. It also was not the full island trip as the road was blocked. We found out this has been the same for a month, but the operator never told us when we booked. Felt that there could have been more honesty. Only 2 English and everyone else was French. Guide did his best and everyone was nice, but something to be aware if you don’t speak French.
Bring your own lunch and drinks!!! We had a fab time on this tour, pick up was on time, our guide was a genuine nice guy, we saw alot of beautiful waterfalls and had many stops to learn about all things Tahiti! You definitely wouldnt want to be taking a rental car on any of these roads so doing a trip like this is essential! The Papenoo Valley is stunning. The only small criticism was that we did not know at the lunch stop there is NOTHING to purchase, no drinks or food available. Luckily we had a few snacks with us but we were still pretty hungry by the end of the day. Fresh fruits and a glass of juice are offered at the lunch stop though and included which is a nice touch. I think it might be helpful to ensure this is clearly listed on the write up for future guests 😊
Had an absolutely wonderful time, what a great way to see Tahiti's beautiful interior! Rainui was extremely kind in allowing me to move my tour to a different day when I woke up sick on the day of my initial booking. The scenery is breathtaking, and taking a swim under the little waterfalls so refreshing.
I recently booked this 4x4 tour as a way to see the inner mountains of Tahiti. We were picked up by our guide, Rainui, at our hotel in downtown Papeete right at the time that was communicated the day before. We then took off for the mountains. We made many stops through the crater where Rainui showed us spiritual sites, we tried Tahitian chestnut and guava, saw many waterfalls, and learned about the culture. We made a stop at a swimming spot and had lunch with fresh fruit and juices and then finished it off driving through a tunnel to the backside of the mountain where we had to turn around due to a landslide that happened a couple days prior. You will still see 80% of the route despite this. This truly was a highlight of our time in Tahiti and I cannot recommend it enough. Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, and water as you will be exposed to the elements, but that was part of the joy for me. You can stand up while he drives which is a great way to experience the mountain air and views as well. Rainui was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide who was an absolute joy to be around. This experience blew away my expectations and I will be recommending it to anyone looking as a way to further experience the island of Tahiti. Rainui, thank you so much for an unforgettable time! We won't forget this excursion because of the time and care you put into make this so memorable.
I had a great day out with Rainui. He was very entertaining and informative, sharing his insights of the island and the Tahitian culture, whilst pointing out beautiful views of the inner parts of the island. The road is very bumpy, but that just made for more entertainment, and the swim before lunch was refreshing. Highly recommend Rainui and his company.
One of the best ways to explore the beautiful Papenoo Valley and experience the interior of Tahiti. Our guide, Hanoee (apologies if I have the spelling wrong!), was amazing and very knowledgeable. There were also audio recordings explaining the different places along the way, which kept the tour interesting and engaging. We stopped midway for a chance to swim, although the water was a bit cold! We also passed through the tunnel leading towards Lake Vaihiria. The views throughout the valley were breathtaking and definitely worth the experience. A couple of tips: bring some snacks, as it is a long tour and it takes a while before you get a chance to eat. The last part of the journey can also get quite bumpy, so if you have back problems, bringing a towel or something to use as extra cushioning may help.
The tour takes you through the middle of the the island on mostly dirt roads with the best tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the land and culture. The scenry was beautiful, very lush tropical jungle with alot of small waterfalls. It's a slow 4x4 ride on the bed of a pickup redesign with bench seats on each side. It's a bumpy, rocking and rolling ride so hold on tight! Bring a bathing suit for a relaxing swim in a cool mountain spring. We'll definitely do it again.
This was a great way to start our trip and first visit to FP. Rainui is charismatic, personable, and knowledgeable about the true native cultures of FP. We went off the beaten path and explored sacred temples, swimming holes, and flora and fauna in the valley. Stunning views and a very adventurous ride on the truck. Be prepared for a lot of bumpy roads. Take motion sickness medicine and bring bug repellent! Respect the land and fill your mana.
Fun trip. Nice to get to the center of the island and see the vegetation and waterfalls. Lots of time spent on a bumpy ride but worth the adventure.
Unremarkable experience, I would not repeat it. We were in car 8 hours and we’ve seen the same thing over and over again. Difficult to understand the guide.
Rai Nui is an awesome guide—knowledgeable, efficient, funny, and kind—and you will learn a lot about the Tahitian culture and traditions. We really enjoyed our time on this excursion.
It was a really fun day. We saw amazing views. The guides were wonderful. We got delicious fruit as well. I definitely recommend.
What a great experience. You get to leave the city and really see the island beauty. This tour guide was especially knowledgeable about traditional culture.
I had such an amazing time with Rainui and our group. He taught us about the history of Tahiti and its culture, languages, traditions, animals, etc. We even got insight into his personal family history which gave me a deeper understanding of this beautiful land and its importance to the Māʼohi people. I fell in love with the swimming spot that you stop at to have lunch! Also Rainui is funny and kept us laughing! I feel blessed to have had this experience. Thank you 🤍
Incredible day - Rainui is passionate, direct and lives for the valleys of Tahiti. This trip was an amazing and, at times, terrifying experience that will stick with us forever. The landscape is other-worldly and the immersion was incredible. Worth every dollar.
Amazing tour full of lessons about the history and culture of the area. Very beautiful mountains and waterfalls as well. The guide was very funny and answered all of our questions. He even cut up fresh fruit for us at lunch. We didn’t feel rushed at all and felt very safe the entire journey.
Rainui, our safari lead did an excellent job sharing with us the magnificant wonders of the Tahiti Island. Besides experiencing the breathtaking landscape, Rainui shared with us many stories about the Tahitian people and their culture. We learned about the plants and animals on the island, saw beautiful waterfalls and visited ancient sites. All and all, an unforgetable experience.
This trip was so cool and totally worth it!!!! We came while they were still reconstructing the last 1/4 of the road due to a landslide that had previously happened, and Rainui (our guide) was very helpful in letting us know ahead of time what the situation was, and even offered us a full refund if we decided we no longer wanted to go despite the cancellation policy! Even though we did not see the last 1/4 of the road, we still got to see so many breathtaking views and amazing cultural sites. Rainui even added on an extra site for us to stop at. We got to hear so many fascinating stories and learn about all of the plants and animals on the island! Our guide Rainui was absolutely amazing and a great time!! He was so accommodating and hilarious and answered any and all of our questions! If you do this tour, you MUST do it with Rainui and this company.
My wife and I have done many tours through the years but this one ranks up amongst one of the top ever. Absolutely beautiful hillside with an amazing owner and our guide named Riainui telling us so many great stories about his culture and history of the land! You will not be disappointed! Don't he's to book this tour! Thank you so much Rainui for an amazing day! Whatever! (His saying)
A long and extensive tour of the center of the island. Beautiful scenery and safe drive. Bring swimsuit towel. The guides take you to a place before the tour to grab sandwiches for lunch. Several stops as you drive the road that bisects the island through a crater.
In spite of the cloud covering and frequent showers of rain, the guide and driver presented an interesting and unhurried experience. Interesting information and personal reflections, an array of fresh fruits at lunch time prepared as we ate, the good humour of both guide and driver made for the good vibe of our day. We are glad we travelled with this provider to see this part of Tahiti Nui.
Rai Nui is a great guide, very knowledgeable. His tour was well-organized. He is a great driver, some parts if this tour are really hard to navigate and he did a great job. He jokes around, he tells great folklore and cultural heritage stories, and he is friendly. We saw some fantastic landscapes and went right into the jungle heart of the island. I highly recommend his tour.
An amazing trip with a very passionate, knowledgeable guide who spoke English and French fluently and with a great sense of humour.
Best tour guide for sure. This was a beautiful tour and while we didn't get to see the last part because of landslides taking out the road, our tour guide took extra time and told us great stories and history. He stopped at lots of interesting places and took the time to answer all of our questions. It is marketed as a bumpy ride and that is accurate but it was so worth it all. Take this tour!
Our guide was AWESOME!!!! Incredible trip and scenery. Definitely bring your own lunch and drinks with you.
The tour was incredible. The tour guide was amazing. I had an issue with my booking originally and the tour guide helped me resolve it. They went out of their way to help me. I highly recommend this tour and this company.
An amazing day with a fantastic guide across the Mana road. Would recommend to everyone who is interested in a true experience of the Tahitian interior.
Such an amazing day! We totally recommend this tour. Our tour guide Raninui was interesting, funny and knowledgeable. Had a great time! Thank you!
Beautiful inland tour, very nice guy, safe driver, telling lots of local stories
Being our first time to Tahiti, we weren’t fully sure what to expect but trusted the recommendations and reviews on Trip Advisor of Te Mana 4x4 Tahiti Tours. The experience far exceeded expectations and Rainui was amazing! He is a thoughtful and intentional guide that cares heavily for the land and his roots. He is also a jokester and made us laugh a lot. It was amazing to learn so much while having huge fun on this epic drive through the heart of Tahiti! Thank you Rainui for sharing your time, stories, traditions and homeland with us! We loved every minute and you have created memories that will last lifetimes! Cheers, AJ and Sarah Book this tour- it’s the real deal, not fake Tahiti.
Clear communication, professional, well organized and we felt safe even though that was a narrow, bumpy, precarious road we drove on. It was very scenic and we saw dozens of waterfalls. "Ryan", our guide, was very knowledgeable about the area and shared his culture with us. Great value for the money.
This was the best tour we have ever been on!! Such a beautiful all day trip through the mountains! The waterfalls and The little bit of rain were refreshing! Loved our desert fruit plate and coconut bread! Love the Tahitian culture and the humor was wonderful! Hold on tight! You will love the whole day!
Lovely tour! Really saw the island and the guide was first class.
A must do. See the real Tahiti and learn about the culture. Our guide was the best. Many photo stops along.
10/10! Do the full day experience! Rainui is friendly, charismatic and very knowledgeable on the history of the island and Tahitian history and culture. Felt spiritually moved by the beauty of the nature and marae visit. Similar to home (NZ) but so far apart they a the same time .. Swimming in the river was the best. You can pop a phat manu off the rocks. This tour is Best part of my trip so far. Mauruuru Rainui ❤️
10/10 would recommend Rainui’s tours. He’s funny, charismatic and extremely knowledgeable on the islands native Tahitian history and culture. The bumpy but adventurous ride makes for some entertainment. Swimming in the local river and standing under a waterfall was my highlight. Visiting Marae was truly spiritually moving. Rainui deeply cares for his fellow people and the culture. A word of advice if you don’t like to hear TRUE history on colonisers and the impact they’ve made on native people then don’t come lol
Travel through the rain forest in search of waterfalls in the back of a pickup truck. This is in our top five excursions of all time! We were fortunate to be with other couples from Europe and the US. Rainui CHAN was an excellent guide with real life experience having lived in the mountains of Tahiti. If you want an authentic and fun-filled adventure while in Papeete, this is your tour! Thank you for an amazing day!
Wow what an incredible experience. My husband and I booked this tour as part of our honeymoon and we were so impressed. Rainui was an incredible, funny guide and extremely knowledgeable. Not only did we see incredible mountains and waterfalls, but learnt all about Tahiti and it's culture. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tahiti!
Rainui was the best guide that I have experienced. I learned more about Tahiti and its culture in the few hours I spent with him than reading any book could provide. He told stories in both French and English with humor and panache. A truly wonderful tour. One proviso: Beware the bumpy roads.
So good! My tour with Rainui was very educational and captured the true essence of Maohi culture.
The actual excursion was fantastic, exciting informative led by a very experience guide with a sense of humour. The late change in pick up location was somewhat unfortunate. Whilst the excursion was fantastic, the performance of Viator / trip advisor and was appalling with duplicate booking references and confirmation numbers for the same excursion, inappropriate updates to bookings, the use of email addresses you had been informed were unavailable and the inability to contact you (and Booking.com) via your websites as email addresses suggested by you on your apps to make contact were email addresses that were deemed unable to receive emails. This is almost fraudulent and should be reported to the appropriate authorities. It was only by the diligence of the operator (Te Mana Tahiti Tours) that these duplicates were brought to my attention and my thanks to him. U had tried many, many times to contact you via your website and by email to addresses suggested in your website and /or email always received the same response email address does cannot receive emails. So much time was spent trying to address these issues without success.
This was the best tour! We have done many tours and have actually loved them all and this one is at the top of our list! From breathtaking views to incredible care, this tour has it all. I am so grateful for such an incredible experience today! This is by far the best way to see Tahiti and the raw, rugged beauty of it. Thank you.🙏🏻
Clearly, this was the best excursion that we had during our 14 days in French Polynesia. We just been on a two week cruise and I had gone on several excursions. They were also wonderful but this was a level above that.Raniui was an exceptional guide. he provided nonstop entertainment. He had joked I think, that I was going to be his human sacrifice. He brought out a knife, had me stand next to a river, and hold my head up high to expose my neck. Luckily he was in a good mood that day. Before we made the trip we stopped at a café to pick up lunch sandwiches and pastries. This was very wise since up on the mountains you would not find anything similar.Raniui you can tell by his pictures and other reviews is a native Tahitian. He speaks his mind so be aware that he will not mince words. as was mentioned in other reviews, get ready for a rough ride. I would not recommend this if you have a bad back. Most of us stood the entire way, but enjoyed the scenery so much better. there is a tunnel that you also go through. You might get wet. Also, wearing comfortable water shoes would probably be of great benefit. When you stand on his cushions, you cannot wear shoes. The waterfall you stop at provided a nice cool down. It’s wise to bring water shoes and a swimsuit as you will be walking over rocks. Bring a towel so you can dry off afterwards and if you want to, you can change into comfortable shorts for the rest of the trip. We also saw eels in a river which he fed. Some of them about 6 feet long. I was wondering whether or not I could eat them for sushi! The comedy was almost nonstop. No wonder his excursion is so highly rated. Do yourself a favor and not miss this excursion. Hope this helps.
