The Rocks Pub Walking Tour

This was my third time taking Dave’s The Rocks pub tour during my visits to Sydney, and I’ve had a great time on each one! On this walking tour you visit truly authentic pubs, learn their stories and the history of the area. You also get some great beer at each one! My first tour had 6 people, the second had 15, and this latest one had 5. Each tour has been a little different depending on the guide and the mix of people in the group, which makes for a unique experience that feels tailored to your group. Emily was my guide this time, and she had great energy and plenty of interesting stories about the area. I’ve had Gregg on previous tours, and he’s also an awesome guide! I highly recommend Dave’s tours for a unique, non-touristy experience if you’re visiting Sydney!

We had a small group (5), we actually had a proper Dave running our tour (no all tour guides are named Dave, but they all call themselves Dave anywho...) Good insight to the original Sydney, seeing the archeological site under the Hostel was interesting. The stories of the founders, convicts and Sydneys inception was enlightening. But we all know why we did the tour....beers (or wine). Yip, some. nice drops, caters for all tastes and heaps of chill time to yarn and listen. We will be recommending this tour to any who'll listen. 2.5hrs of chatting, listening some easy walking, and of course the beers (or wines). Thank you team, especially our Dave. My husband and I had such a great time on this pub walking tour! Our guide, Dave, was fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Sydney, Australian history, and especially The Rocks. It honestly felt like he knew the story behind every pub, building, street, and corner we visited. What made the tour so much fun was that Dave was absolutely hilarious. He had a great story for everything and shared some really interesting legends about The Rocks, as well as the history behind sayings that we still use today. He somehow managed to cover history, geography, sports, current events, and Australian culture without it ever feeling like a history lesson. We were laughing and learning the whole time. Because of some last-minute cancellations, it ended up being just my husband and me on the tour, and we couldn’t have been luckier. Dave made us feel completely welcome and gave us such a fun, personal experience. It felt like we were exploring Sydney with a really knowledgeable local rather than just taking a tour. At the end, Dave also gave us great recommendations for food, drinks, and things to do for the rest of our stay, which we really appreciated. We’ve taken quite a few tours on this trip, and Dave definitely stands out. If you’re visiting Sydney, I highly recommend this tour—and if you can get Dave as your guide, even better! 10/10!

A Fantastic Way to Learn About Sydney We had a very enjoyable afternoon exploring The Rocks with our professional and knowledgeable guide, Dave-o. It was a fantastic way to learn about the origins of Sydney while visiting some character-filled historic pubs and enjoying good beer. We also appreciated having the option to choose a soft drink. Be prepared for plenty of walking, including some hilly terrain, but it was well worth it. A fun and memorable way to experience this historic part of Sydney. Highly recommended!

We liked being able to walk around the rocks and learn the history of the area. We were able to pick which beer to try at each location and wine was an option if you are not a big wine drinker. It would be nice if you had time to buy some snacks at a location or two on the trip.

We had a fabulous time on our tour with our guide Doug (aka Duggie, Dougall 😂). It was just the four of us (two couples), which made the tour feel really special and personalised. We’ve travelled to Sydney a few times before and have always enjoyed a drink or two around The Rocks, but this guided tour took it to the next level! It’s so much more than just a pub crawl — it’s also a fascinating history lesson and a great insight into how The Rocks came to be what it is today. Doug was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. Do yourselves a favour while you’re in Sydney and book this tour. You definitely won’t be disappointed!

Great fun. Visited four really interesting pubs that served local craft ale and was given a recommendation for a fifth. Recommended.

We took the Rocks Pub Tour with Dave and had a great time. Dave did a great job of interweaving pub and beer lore with the history of Australia and the Rocks district. He was also incredibly helpful in helping us plan a day trip to Manly onn the ferry the next day. There were 6 of us on the tour, so it was a warm and friendly experience. We took this tour after disembarking from our cruise ship-the ship provided the same tour but at a higher cost. Highly recommend this tour!

This tour gave us an “old world” feeling of being in the modern city of Sydney. Our guides were knowledgeable, fun, and entertaining!

Not only was this a pub tour, it was a bit of a history lesson along the way. Pino did a fabulous job and was very engaging. He and Jarvis, were able to relate the history of the pubs in addition to Australian history. Along the way we were showed The Big Dig, which many people in Sydney may not even be aware of. We visited four pubs, and were able to sample local brews. Pino was familiar with all of the beers and was able to make recommendations based upon people's preferences. I think even non beer drinkers would enjoy this tour... non alcoholic drinks were available.

Our Guide, Scott was great. Besides the 4 pubs we went to he was wonderful telling stories about early the history on Australia and Sydyny and the Rock area!

This was a fabulous tour. Our guide Doug had many entertaining and engaging stories to tell. It was great to learn the rich history of many of these pubs and hotels we had been walking past prior to the tour. Doug was able to tell us stories about many of the beers we had to choose from and was very skilled in helping us choose the beers most likely to fit our taste. Great tour. You won’t be disappointed.

Fun enlightening pub crawl! Our guide was awesome… he was hilarious and had great stories to tell! He was also knowledgeable of the beers at each location. It was well organized and you got your monies worth!

We had a blast touring the old pubs with "Dave's" group. Our guide was knowledgeable in the history of the pubs. The other guests were from other countries and so much fun. I highly recommend

We had the best time walking around Sydney stopping at old pubs,, learning the history of the city and the pubs itself. Our guide Dave was wonderful!! highly recommend him. Great personality and very informative of the city he loves.

This was a fun and interesting tour! Lots of history and lots of beer! We were lucky enough to have Craig as our tour guide -- he was full of interesting information and history as well as lots of great and colorful local sayings! If you have a chance to take this tour -- do it!! And if you don't drink beer, there's always wine or cider!

We had a wonderful experience with Gregg and Emily! Learned so much about Australian history while walking the Rocks area. Plus we discovered a new brew that I could order in Cairns and be confident that I would like it - XPA. They went beyond and above to assist us with locating a place to eat after the tour. Second time I have done this tour and our host Dave did not disappoint, great local knowledge of the area and you could tell Dave had a real interest in what he was telling us, great incites and anecdotes that I didn't hear on the first time I did this tour a few years back, I you have an interest in local history and fancy visiting 4 great old pubs then this is perfect

Excellent tour of the Rocks and four fabulous pubs that date back more than 100 years. The beers were all excellent and there were plenty to choose from. Our guide Tanya was very entertaining and her knowledge of the British discovery of what is today Australia was excellent. Highly recommend!

One of the Dave's that looks "very Australian" will be your guide and they will not disappoint in creating a memorable experience filled with amazing facts. Each stop is historically prominent and the beer or wine is wonderful at each pub. It is an experience I have recommended to my friends and family on social media. I would do this tour again were it available in a different part of the city or if I visit a different part of Australia.

Collin is an extremely knowledgeable tour guide and also quite funny. We stopped at four pubs and at each one he told us about the amazing history of the pub and the drinks he chose. This is a great way to see Sydney and get a glimpse of its history, while enjoying drinks along the way…
