Bus to the top to reduce uphill walking but to see all animals it requires a bit of back tracking. Plan for the whole day

Itinerary
This waterside pocket of Sydney has got it all; amazing entertainment, fascinating museums, incredible wildlife and delicious dining options right on the water plus a brand-new food precinct. Darling Harbour is a fantastic family-friendly destination right in the heart of Sydney that has something for everyone. Discover one of the tall ships at the Australian National Maritime Museum. If you’re looking for something less active and more zen, head to the Chinese Garden of Friendship which is a tranquil haven.
This is the gateway to all the wonderful things that Sydney Harbour has to offer. Circular Quay in Sydney Cove is bordered by the Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Garden on one side and the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the other. It’s also the main ferry terminal in Sydney, making it easy to explore one of the world’s great natural harbours. Stroll along the western side of the busy transport hub to the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and The Rocks, where the British colony began in 1788. On the other side of the quay, explore Sydney’s dark past at the Justice and Police Museum housed in a former colonial court and police station.
One of Sydney’s most famous attractions, the award-winning Taronga Zoo is home to over 4,000 animals, including Australian native wildlife, as well as rare and endangered exotic animals. Overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour, Taronga Zoo is just 12 minutes from the city by ferry. Open 365 days a year, admission includes daily keeper talks and shows, and access to the Sky Safari, Sydney’s only cable car.
There’s a lot to love about Watsons Bay. It’s got lovely beaches, marvellous views and delicious seafood. Located on the South Head peninsula in Sydney’s east, it’s a delightful day out. Australia’s oldest fishing village is home to waterfront restaurants, great walking trails and a harbourside park perfect for family picnics. Steeped in history, Watsons Bay is rich in indigenous and colonial heritage. Join Kadoo Tours for insights into Aboriginal culture and the bay area. A two hour guided tour through the clifftops of the Gap Bluff walking track will have you marvelling at the vast ocean as you walk by the spot where the full-rigged passenger ship the Dunbar shipwrecked in 1857.
Enjoy the wonderful delights of Manly, from iconic Manly Beach and breathtaking views from North Head to delicious waterside places to eat and fun family activities. Begin your discovery with a ferry ride from Circular Quay across sparkling Sydney Harbour, one of the world’s great natural harbours. Our fast ferry service from Circular Quay to Manly is only 18 minutes. At Manly Wharf you’ll find charming bars, cafes and restaurants.

It was so amazing, we were picked and dropped in time and even took care of all 41 of us 37 of them being children.
Easy to book. Great ferry trip and on time, friendly staff and not over crowded. Zoo a little expensive and under renovation. Some animals sleeping so not all seen. Was a pleasant 3-4hrs. On a hill but we didn’t find this a problem. We are happy we went and would recommend.
Great service! On time and smooth ride !
The Taronga zoo is fantastic. Lots of animals from all over the world and the layout and setup for the animals is very nice the zoo is nestled in amongst lots of trees and the view of the Sydney harbour and opera house from there is amazing. Fantasea was on time and gave us a smooth ride over and back and the ship was clean and had lots of seating options.
The ferry ride was easy to get to. The zoo was awesome. We spent about 3.5 hours there. Had a good time and got our steps in!
You can take the ferry from Darling harbour (~0.5hr to zoo) or circular quay (~15mins to zoo). during the trip, you can see the opera house and the bridge. I really enjoy the ferry. The zoo is not very big and located on a hill. But there are escalators / slopes so it makes us less tiring. there are a wide variety of animals but the numbers of each animal are small. It is good if you only stay in Australia for a short period of time and don’t have time to visit other zoos. And most importantly, you can admire the nice harbour view on the ferry and at the zoo.
We had a great time at the zoo! We arrived on the first ferry across the harbor to the zoo. The zoo was not crowded, the animals were incredible! The animal enclosures were very well kept and were like the habitat would be in the wild. We were surprised by the number of birds we had never seen before. The Australian wildlife was great, the dingoes were so cute, asleep. The employees were friendly and helpful. Many monkeys, gorillas, African wildlife. We stayed until the last ferry left. What an incredible day!
Such an easy experience. Ticket collection point was described well and sign posted. Ferries ran to schedule and zoo was wonderful.
We took Fantasea ferry from Darling Harbor to the Taronga Zoo and back. The ferry was punctual and fun. It's a great way to see the sights including the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Rocks, skylines and the Opera House. The trip is relatively quick and a value added way to get to and from the zoo.
Price on checkout didn’t match what came out of my account. Overcharged and the ferry didn’t turn up for return trip. In 40 degree heat with a child with a foot injury. Not happy at all.
This is a sham, the website advertised several stops in the itinerary, when we went to redeem the tickets, we found out that Fantasia no longer operate any other stops than the zoo. Had I known that I would have booked with other companies. Misleading advertisement!!! don't book with them unless all you want to do is the zoo
We had a lovely time. Staff were very helpful at all locations. Food and beverage were reasonably priced. It was rather hit and the animals were taking it easy.
It was a beautiful day watching the animals. Taronga Zoo, is spectacular. Ferry ride was quick and an efficient way to travel to and from the zoo. Highly recommend this experience 10/10
Visited on a very hot day so not all animals were out but it was still a great experience. Having never been to Sydney, the ferry ride allowed us to see so much of the harbour.
the zoo was fun- definitely an all day thing. the ferry was annoying though- they said it offered coffee, so i purposely didnt purchase any because of it. found the thermos- it was cold water with instant coffee. trying to come back we missed the ferry becuase it left early. the zoo was great but the ferry meh
Th is was an excellent zoo! We were able to see so many of the animals unique to Australia! Since childhood I had wanted to see a koala - had visited the San Diego Zoo the only US zoo with Koalas but they were inside a house and asleep - were disappointed! But at Taronga they were still asleep as they sleep 20 hours a day. But some were rousing and close enough to really see! I, Denise, have an intense snake phobia but was able to overcome it at Taronga and saw beautiful snakes and not run, scream or throw objects! They had animals from other continents as well!! Great time spent!!!
I pay and Cannot enter with viator voucher to the zoo. Never happened a sì bad experience. Will not use viator anymore.. this is sure.
It’s a short bus ride to a place hemnomenal zoo. The walk around the zoo can be a bit hectic if you’re not In shape, but is generally manageable. Directions to get on the ferry were a bit Difficult but I managed to get It straight. Really fun trip.
Was an all round great experience. Ferry ride was great and the Taronga Zoo was amazing. Would be good if the bus transfer from pier to zoo was included.
It was easy to book this excursion. The staff were helpful and friendly. Directions to the meeting point were easy to follow. The ferry ride over the Harbour was amazing. Taronga zoo didn’t disappoint either! I got to see so many different animals we don’t see in the U.S.
Boat did not turn up on time and we had to buy tickets for another ferry or wait another hour and a half. Recommend using the standard ferry service where you just tap on and tap off with your card.
Taronga Zoo amazing as expected. TripAdvisor please update your customer when ferry’s are cancelled! Waited at correct wharf only to find out 40minutes after due time that next 2 ferries were not coming. No communication and would have missed our trip if we had not returned to the office to check! Not happy and ended up catching public ferry…. Cheap and easy and recommend this!
The trip over and back was great. People who provided the transportation was friendly and concerned for our safety. The weather was not the best and there were some animals missing! Food and restrooms were perfectly placed!
Times of ticket office opening is unclear. We rushed to get there by 9am turns out it didn't open until 9.30. Ferry time also wasn't advertised but we weren't late and it was an enjoyable day.
Taronga zoo was very good. The trip advisor mediated tickets were confusing and ultimately a waste of money as we ended up taking the public ferry and did not get the vouchers. Recommend strongly against using this “service”. You can get tickets directly from the zoo, but TripAdvisor didn’t allow that option and involved a third party. Lesson learned. Don’t use Trip Advisor.
It wasn’t explained that once you reach Taronga zoo by ferry you should get on the shuttle bus which takes you to the upper entrance. That way you walk down while visiting the zoo and the ferry will be at the bottom. Also it would be nice to have a ferry leave the zoo about 12:30pm. There was a 2 hour gap. Every hour would be nice. Otherwise it was good. I liked that on the way back you could get off at Circular Quay or Darling Harbour.
Zoo was amazing. Ferry schedule was not. Fortunately city ferry saved the day. Not certain that package was more economical than just going it on my own.
Beautiful in every way. Zoo is exquisite. Ferry service is good but schedule is such that it doesn’t work well as a “hopper “ service. Great harbor views and a day at a terrific zoo!
The agent at the Fantasea desk told us the incorrect time for the last return ferry so we wasted 1/2 hour at the ferry dock that we would rather have spent in the zoo. We also had to wait 1.5 hours to catch a ferry going over.
Did not receive what was advertised Why do I need to write 100 characters minimum. I was not happy with the services. Thanks
Try to go early, if the weather will be hot. Ser Australia animal first if from US. The Koals were sp cite and we'll worth the extra money
Fun day out, great to spend time close to the Koala Bears. Plenty of animals to see and not hard to get around the zoo. Value for money
The zoo was set in a beautiful location and there were lots of fascinating animals. The ferry was convenient and easy to find
We booked this trip that included toronga zoo entry. Great service. Very friendly and helpful staff. Boat always right on time. Really enjoyed our day and experience. Would use again and highly recommend
The Zoo was fabulous and walkable We got to see a platypus and several other Australian animals as well as the more traditional monkeys, apes, zebras and so on. The cruise itself was very relaxing and enjoyable.
This was an amazing zoo! Bought our tickets online from the zoo’s website before traveling to Sydney, Australia. Took the ferry from the Sydney wharf directly to the Taronga Zoo wharf. It was a short walk up to the entrance. The walk from the wharf was uphill the entire way and could be difficult with any limitations. There is also a bus that will drive you around to the other entrance to the zoo. The Taronga Zoo is world famous for a reason. It is amazing. The animals are mostly in open, natural habitats. Plan on at least 3 hours to see the zoo, but we were there for almost 5 hours including lunch at the cafe.
The boat you travel on is the Fantasy cruises. The staff were friendly and they did a great job. There is free coffee and tea on the larger boat. I didn't see that on the smaller boat. There is a posted schedule. In the middle of the day they take a break, so make sure you review the timetable and plan accordingly. Also, the service doesn't go into the late afternoon/evening. For example, the last boat departing Manly Bay is 330pm. So you will need to find different transport back after that. The zoo was very nice. Very hilly. Wear sneakers. If you start at the bottom you will be walking uphill. Fom the boat there is a bus to take you to the top. Overall good experience.
Bought the Taronga Zoo + Ferry Return Ticket combo. Their ferry schedule is very spotty in the afternoon. You are better off catching a public ferry and buy the zoo ticket separately.
We took a boat across the Sydney Harbour to the Zoo. It was pleasant and smooth. The staff on the Fantasea was great, friendly, helpful, polite. The zoo is a don't miss attraction. When it came time to leave the zoo, the boat was there within 15 minutes. We had another trip across the harbour. Again, it was pleasant, quick and easy. The hardest part of the day was finding our way to the wharf and back to the hotel. It would have been nice to have been picked up at our hotel.
Was an excellent trip from circular quay. Over to the zoo. Only down side was the schedule finished a bit earlier than expected so couldn’t do as much as we wanted in the small window we had.
The trip was beautifully planned and designed to cover the right experiences. Best Arrangements from Viator. Must try with 48 Hour Hopper pass.
The seats were comfortable but the audio was not clear for most part of the tour which was supposed to be guided. Also there was no tea/ coffee available and the onboard staff were not very approachable
Nice zoo for visit with family but couldn't feed the animals, clean and very informative. Great view of Sydney. Compared to Sydney Zoo, the staff fed the animals so that we, the visitors, could see the animals and see the animal/staff interactions.
Taronga Zoo is for sure the most scenic zoo with so many animals. I love this Zoo it takes us to the ultimate animal experience. Giraffes in this Zoo has the most beautiful spot in the world! Highly recommended.
Great value .. worth paying the little bit extra for a full extra day of ferry hopping Boats were on time, the staff weee very professional and friendly. Would recommend 100 pct.
Brilliant definitely worth the visit and the hopper pass is great.Pays to look around at the ferry a lot cheaper options
Loved the Zoo, got the Bus from the wharf to the top entrance and made our way down via the exhibits. The Ferrie guys were very helpful and knowledgeable, even told us about a nice beach to visit. Found the timetable a little difficult to follow when hopping but all in all very good value for money.
Whilst holidaying for a birthday weekend .....my partner and I couldn't fault the amazing and friendly service staff provided throughout our stay ....our 48 hr hopper pass and free entry into Taronga zoo gave us access to endless trips through the harbour night and day ..I highly recommend using Fantasea cruises ..5 stars ......
Convenient way to get around city. Crew was also accommodating. Boat was clean and comfortable. One of the best tour package I had since years
