Itinerary
Meet your Sydney Bespoke Tours guide at the meeting point to begin an afternoon and evening of wildlife spotting in the wild. Depart Sydney for the 90 minute drive south to the picturesque town of Bowral. En route, learn about the animals we are likely to find, some we might spot, and how we will record any sightings. On arrival, enjoy a light lunch before learning about local wildlife conservation projects, monitoring programs, and the signs to look for when tracking our more elusive wildlife. The rest of the afternoon will be spent spotting wildlife at several locations. The area hosts an abundance of birds - from the universally-loved kookaburra to a host of colourful parrots, including Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosella, Galah, Yellow-tailed and Glossy black cockatoo, and even emu - as well as some of our most iconic animals, such as echidna. In the evening, enjoy a well-earned dinner at an historic pub before returning to Sydney.

Steve was a great guide, especially for birders; I loved viewing the emu. I enjoyed the mammal spotting most. We saw an echidna, different species of wallaby (including two juvenile males that “boxed” over territory), plus a big mob of kangaroo; both groups included mamas and their joeys. We also used red light devices to view nocturnal animals like flying squirrel, wombats, and brush-tailed possums. Though it is not promised, some fortunate participants spotted the elusive platypus. My only disappointment was that I was not quick enough to spot a platypus myself. The provided meals were a bonus! We had a fun group!
This was an excellent day. Steve, our guide was knowledgeable, attentive and generous with his time. The day was divided into three parts. A nature reserve where we were able to spot rosellas, kookaburra, cockatoos plus plenty of others. A ‘road trip’ where in various open locations we saw kangaroo, wallaby emu and a flock of yellow tailed black cockatoo followed finally by a nocturnal search for possum, sugar gliders and wombat. Lunch and dinner were provided, both very good. Sadly we didn’t see any duckbilled platypus but that is the nature of a wildlife safari. Thank you Steve for sharing your extensive knowledge on wildlife and history of the area plus the loan of good binoculars, coats and red light torches. Finally, this is a long day - a 10 hour round trip, my suggestion would be if you’ve had a long flight the day before have a few days rest before booking to make the most of the experience.
Had the most amazing day! Steve was a great guide, knowledgeable on a wide range of topics from Australian history to current affairs, and of course wildlife. Not only did he bring us to see the animals, he also explained the choice of habitat or area, and the behaviours of the animals we were looking for. Well organised, smooth transportation, great food. They provided binoculars and a red torchlight for the night walk. We were lucky enough to spot 18 species of birds, 6 mammals, and 1 reptile. This included a platypus, a wombat, and a brush tailed possum with her baby! Would recommend for everyone, ranging from the casual holidaymaker looking for something local and different, to the serious wildlife enthusiast. Thank you Steve and the group for making it an unforgettable experience.

This was without question the best single thing we did when in Sydney. Steve was a perfect guide, enthusiastic and passionate about Australia's wildlife and extremely knowledgeable. The trip was an excellent combination of bird-viewing and marsupial spotting in several different locations, exactly as advertised and with great success: over 20 kinds of bird, no fewer than 5 wombats. dozens of wallabies and kangaroos, possums and gliders. All rounded off by dinner in a historic New South Wales inn. Worth every penny.
This tour was one of the best tours I’ve taken anywhere and the highlight of our AU trip! I would highly recommend this tour and if I come back to Sydney I would do it again! The pick up was smooth and communication before the tour was really clear and complete. The whole day was well paced and we saw incredible animals at every stop with nice breaks for lunch and dinner. Throughout the tour Steve was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and history of the area which made the drive times fly by. But the real stars were the animals and we saw SO many of them! We started with a tranquil walk around a nature preserve where Steve helped us spot over 15 kinds of birds including the gorgeous Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosellas, and King Parrots. At our next stops we saw 17 emus, dozens of wallabies (many with joeys in their pouches), tons of kangaroos and 5 wombats! In the evening we walked by the river to spot platypus and even though we didn’t see one we got to see possums and sugar gliders flying between the trees, which I think was even cooler. Though this tour is expensive it’s worth every penny! If you love wildlife and beautiful scenery then you’ll love this!
The southern highlands tour with guides Jack and Steve was an amazing day. We got great views of wombat, emus, kangaroos, wallabies, sugar gliders, and brushtail possums. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. Listening to ghost stories at the Surveyor General pub was a lot of fun.
We had a wonderful day of wildlife exploration with knowledgeable guide, Steve. The private tour allowed us to observe at our own pace native animals in their natural settings, including over a dozen types of birds, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and other marsupials. Strongly recommend.
The Sydney wildlife tour was absolutely amazing! Our guide was so knowledgeable of the animals and the area and we learned so much during time with him. I would highly recommend this tour if you are Sydney. Truly an awesome experience!!
Steve was great! Very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about his work. People who love what they do ALWAYS pass that vibe on to others as they teach. This was our 1st time in Australia and didnt know what to expect. Our tour group was small & private (just me, my wife, and another couple), which made it easier to ask questions and learn. We saw over 24 different kinds of bird species, wombats, kangaroos, wallabys, bats, massive termite mounds, sugar gliders, brush-tailed possums, oreo-cows (obvious nickname), and even a highland cow. All were new to us, and all were easy to find/spot in the wild. Steve provided lights, binoculars, lunch, a delicious dinner (with an alcoholic drink), and even jackets... not to mention full transportation and a personal experience. We had an absolute blast, and are really happy we got this tour! THANKS AGAIN, STEVE!
A nice relaxing drive in the countryside with a group of only six of us and our gregarious and knowledgeable driver and guide, Steve. We saw a surprising number of species of birds and I was able to get decent photos of most of them. And, of course, we saw the usual suspects--eastern gray kangaroos and emus, which are always fun. The lunch was good and dinner at Australia's oldest continuously operating pub was great. After dinner, we used red torches to spot nocturnal wildlife and saw both ring-tailed and brush-tailed possums and a wombat. Would highy recommend for a nice day outside the city.
This was the absolute best experience I had in Australia! It was a small tour, just me and another solo traveler and Steve catered the experience to us. He is super knowledgeable, friendly and truly cares about conservation. Everything you see is in the wild. No pens, no cages, just wild Australian wildlife. I will treasure this experience for the rest of my life!!! If you do one thing in Australia, take this tour!!!!
Awesome experience! Steve, the owner and our guide was superb. He was smart, fun and had a good eye for spotting wildlife. He knew exactly where and when to look. He gets just as excited as his customers when he spots something. And we saw a lot. Kangaroos, wallabies, possums, emu, rosellas, cockatoos, and too many other birds to mention. The sugar gliders were our favorite. Thanks for the experience of a lifetime, Steve.
My husband and I had a wonderful time on the wildlife safari tour with our guide, Steve. It was awesome to see all of the wild animals in their natural habitats. It was especially cool to see the nocturnal dwellers—what a treat! As someone passionate about animal rights and ethical treatment, I’m so glad we found this tour so that we could safely and respectfully enjoy the company of our wild neighbors. The tour cost is a bit higher than other experiences you may find but I thought it was totally worth it. The tour went from noon until the evening, so lots of wildlife viewing time! And the tour is kept small—capped at 8 people; there were only 4 of us so it felt nice to not be in an overcrowded environment. Steve was an excellent, knowledgeable guide and he seemed just as excited to spot the wildlife as we were. This tour is best for anyone who loves wildlife and the natural environment and who is fine walking on sometimes uneven terrain. The tour could work well for a family, solo, or in pairs.
The tour guide was extremely professional. At first, we thought the price was a bit high, but both lunch and dinner were absolutely delicious. Steve was incredibly thoughtful in every aspect — he prepared everything we might need and even brought extra warm clothing when the weather turned cold. Compared to regular tour groups, this experience was truly on another level. His explanations about the animals were very thorough and engaging, and the nighttime wildlife viewing was also a wonderful experience.
Emma Cummings was our tour guide. We thought there would be a few people on the tour and we found ourselves to be the only ones on this tour. Emma is extremely knowledgeable and educated in biology/science and it really showed as she took us about 90 km out of Sydney and into the surrounding neighborhoods to see the animals in their natural state. At first she showed us most all of the animals on paper then we drove around many areas to see what we could find. She brought us right to them, at a safe distance as to not harm or harass any of the critters. We saw crimson rosella, sulpher crested cockatoo, little corella, australian ibis, eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallaby, red neck wallaby, noisy miner, laughing kookaburra, eastern rosella, australian magpie, masked lap wing, wood duck, pacific duck, urasian coot, little black cormorant, galah, purple swamp hen, king parrots, rakali (water rat), platypus, ringtail possum, sugar glider, and the brush tail possum. We ate at the Surveyor General Inn (Australia's oldest continuously licensed inn) and the food was amazing, fabulous, spectacular and we reviewed what we had seen and its significance to Australia. I would recommend to everyone to do this tour with Emma, in particular, as it gave us so many pictures and an experience we will remember forever.
This experience is not to be missed! We had the most amazing day with friendly, funny, and knowledgeable Steve, who was as excited about all of our wildlife sightings as we were. Steve is so passionate about all things Australia and it made for an absolute perfect day! The list of all the unique wildlife we saw is far too long to post here, so many! To cap off a perfect night he took us to an area with no light pollution to take in the most unforgettable night sky with a mob of kangaroo all around us, truly magical! Food was amazing and we truly appreciated the effort to cater to our plant based diet! The thoughtful stop at the front door of our hotel at the end of the night was also so appreciated! Amazing! A++++ Thank you!!!!
Wonderful from booking to return to hotel. Steve and Danielle were both great. Steve found us so many birds and animals. We even saw a platypus! Having the binoculars and red spot lights for us was so helpful in enjoying the safari. Weather was warm but dry making walking easier. Imagine it wouldn’t have been as pleasant had the dirt been mud.
An absolutely brilliant day....over 30 species seen in the company of the lovely Steve, whose knowledge and enthusiasm for wildlife was terrific. The variety of birds was amazing, and I never thought we'd be lucky enough to see platypus and echidna close up...wonderful. Lunch and dinner were lovely, the transport very comfortable. I highly recommend this trip. Thank you Steve.
The Sydney Wildlife Safari tour of the Southern Highlands exceeded all expectations that my wife and I had. It was magical. Our guide, Steve, seemed a master at knowing where and what time-of-day to find wildlife, and was a wealth of knowledge on interesting facts and habits of the wildlife, and local history. We observed kangaroos (and joeys), red-necked wallabies (and joeys), ring-tailed opossum, and wombat. And we were not expecting to see (and hear – wow!) such a variety of the most colorful and cool birds, including Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosella, Masked Lapwing, Yellow-Tail black cockatoo, Sulfur-crested white cockatoo, Noisy Miner, Galah, Kookaburra, and King Parrot. The night tour, using red-tinted spotlights, was a perfect add-on to the day that followed the hearty dinner at the historic pub. Steve was the perfect host, relaxed and a great conversationalist throughout the day/dinner, plus he was a great driver. We took our safari at the start of our 10-day trip, but it remained the high point for us, a very high value, we could not provide a higher recommendation.
Amazing all around! Great mix of wildlife - we got to see so much including kangaroos, wallabies, emu, wombats, possums, birds galore and even that elusive platypus!) Emma, our guide, was world class. Couldn’t recommend more highly!
My wife and I are not a fan of zoos and as a photographer, I really wanted to capture the incredible Australian wildlife while we were in Sydney. Our guide Steve delivered big time. We hit the jackpot and got to see truly wild Koala, kangaroos, wallabies, emu, echidna, opossum, and so many beautiful birds. Steve was extremely knowledgeable on all of these amazing animals. We got to see so much and had an incredible time. I can’t say enough good things about this tour. HIGHLY recommend - worth every penny.
Saw Kangaroos Wombats. Lots of other unique wildlife. Good food and a great tour guide and comfortable vehicle. Must do adventure
Steve was a great guide for the Sydney wildlife Safari, helping us spot our most wanted critters and plenty more. The transport van used by Sydney Bespoke Tours was fabulous and more comfortable than all the other tours we took in Australia! Steve answered all our questions, provided interesting insight, and was an enjoyable host throughout the day and late evening tour.
Amazing tour!!! Steve was an amazing guide! Very knowledgeable and knew all of the prefect spots to see wildlife! So happy I took this tour!
Excellent experience being able to see the wild animals up close, very nice memories, Steve very friendly, the tour fulfilled everything promised.
