Sydney The Rocks Historical Pub Tour

Interesting and fun tour, with a very engaged "Dave", Emily. We found some new spots in The Rocks. Thank you

There are of hills and steps to consider but can be accommodate in some spots. I would rate thus as a moderate level for an excursion. Doug and Dave were excellent tour guides and very informative about the history of The Rocks. We had a lot of fun learning history and drinking beer. Its a great tour and would recommend if your in Sydney.

History, beer, walking, one bar had music, the others just Friday night vibes. Dave, our guide gave us a thorough history lesson at each pub and along the route in between. Ghost stories as a bonus. Dave also was very accommodating to my wife's walking issues and her using a foldable wheel chair on a crowded Friday evening in the Rocks which we found out has many hills and stairs. We visited 4 separate pubs and had 4 separate beers, all good, all with interesting stories to go with each. The tour ends at the last pub not where it starts. Dave (not the owner of Dave's Tours) was a great guide. The pubs themselves are interesting on their own, the beer is a bonus. My wife doesn't drink but had water or soft drinks, she enjoyed the tour also. I recommend.

Our guide was knowledgeable about the history of the pubs and an excellent storyteller. Was surprised/disappointed that the tour finished quite a distance from where it started and we had to find our way back on our own.

Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history, culture, economics, etc of the Rocks…and a wonderful story teller! Our guide also did an excellent job of explaining our drink options.

We really enjoyed the pub tour. We got to try a different beer at each location, and our guide made excellent recommendations. We learned a great deal about the history of the area. This was a great way to experience the Rocks.

Our tour was really fun! We had a small group… just 5 of us so it was easy and great to get to know the others touring the Rocks with us. Emily was……. AMAZING. she was not only fun and informative but so kind and conscientious. Loved having her to guide us around the Rocks. We really enjoy walking tours (like this one). They are such a great way to get our feet on the ground in a new city, get to know some of the history, and meet new people! We would definitely book again with Dave’s Tours.

We were looking for something low-key to fill an afternoon—something more engaging than just sitting in a bar—and this tour ended up being the perfect choice. Exploring The Rocks through its historic pubs was a really unique way to experience a bit of Sydney’s layered history. The mix of storytelling, local context, and great stops along the way made it both entertaining and informative without ever feeling heavy. Our guide, Emily, was fantastic. Her enthusiasm—especially when it engaging everyone to enjoy our time together—was contagious and really added to the experience. She kept things fun, relaxed, and engaging the entire time. One unexpected highlight: one of the stops had a pizza featuring kangaroo and emu meat. While we didn't have time to order one during the tour, we were intrigued enough that we actually went back later that evening after a show at the Opera House to try it. If you’re looking for a casual, social, and slightly different way to explore Sydney, this tour is a great pick. Highly recommend.

What a great intro to some of the historical pubs of The Rocks! We booked this tour at the beginning of our stay so we would have time to go back and hit our favorites for dinner. Dave was an awesome host! We had so much fun!

Dave P was amazing. If you want to learn about the unique history of the Rocks area while visiting some historic pubs with your choice of beers…this tour is for you. We had a small group of 7 and the fun and stories started immediately. Dave is such a personable and welcoming person that is was easy to be put at ease and feel included as part of the group. Wonderful tour, great time. Highly recommended!!

So much history was shared along with a craft beer in each pub! Lisa was an excellent guide with tons of knowledge and great stories about each pub. The Pickled Monkey was my favorite - you’ll have to visit to find out the details. This is a nice walking tour through “The Rocks” historical area and a fun way to spend a couple hours as well as enjoy some local brews. Give it a try

Great fun, interesting history and yummy drinks!

Very fun and interesting afternoon. The guides were well organized and had a lot of interesting stories and history. They also had a lot of enthusiasm which kept us engaged and the time flew by.

The guide made the history lesson interesting and amusing although I think sometimes he did not let facts get in the way of a good story, that is intended to be positive feedback

Really fun way to walk to some bars, try local beer, and learn a lot about Australian drinking history. The tour guide was a lot of fun, even as a Yank he gave a good tour!

Pino was a fabulous guide and orator! The places selected were exceptional and his commentary was informative. Torrential rains made the adventure a challenge but Pino lead us through! He is an amazing representative of Sydney and The Rocks community.

What a great way to learn about the rocks! Our guide for the night was a character, full of stories and historical information. I never would’ve known about these pubs or how Sydney got started without this tour.

Loved all the "Oldest Pub in Town" pubs we went to. Tons of history, and we were with a very good group of people. Our guide was knowledgeable and had some really good tales with each place.

Although we had already been in Sydney for 3 days, our guide, Nick, took us to places that we had not visited and his knowledge of the history of Sydney and The Rocks was extraordinary. We wound through back alleys to archeological digs, historical buildings, and visited four pubs where we had a beer of our choice at each. Tables were reserved for us, so we did not have to fight the mobs that were there to watch a very important cricket match. Nick was very friendly and approachable, and we enjoyed discussing many topics with him beyond Sydney's history. We highly recommend this tour has it lives up to its name as a historical tour with some beer thrown in

Nick was our tour guide and his presentation and delivery of informative historical relevance was superb. We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the tour. He was very professional and kept our interest throughout. Definitely recommend.

Doug was an outstanding guide. He blended in the local history with pub stories. The tour was both enriching and refreshing. A must do item when in Sydney!

This was a lot of fun! Scottie gave us a lot of historical info on “the rocks” area as well as the pubs and the beer. Visited 4 different pubs and tried some of the signature beers. Saturday night is perhaps not the best night to go. The pubs are crazy busy. We had some difficulty with the group seating (we were 15 people) in some of the pubs and it was hard for Scottie to talk over the noise. Fun time though and nice to chat with others from different places.

Doug with Dave's tour took us to 4 different pubs and also had stops along the way in the Rocks district to give us historical information also, learned alot about the Australian beginnings. And the delicious beer was bonus

So met our tour guide - Dave (aka Angus) at Harts Pub. Very easy to find. Started with a drink there after Dave gave us our options. During the tour, we visited 4 different bars with Dave giving us our drink options at each location. He made some great recommendations. Enjoyed each beer he told us about. We toured archeological areas with Dave explaining the history behind them as well as the history of Australia. Discussed the oldest pubs in Australia and why there is a debate about which one it is. We never felt rushed during the tour. Easy walking between bars. Dave was engaging and informative. Shared a ton of stories with him and another person on the tour. Had such an amazing time, we kept it going 2 hours past the end time. Ended up at one of the pubs we previously had a drink at and ordered some pizzas with kangaroo, emu and crocodile. Definitely the top tour we had in Sydney. Would absolutely do it again.

Really good walking tour around the oldest part of Sydney, with visits to unique pubs and the chance to taste some tasty brews. Our perfectly sized group was led by the raconteur par excellance Dave P. Comfy walking shoes are a must, and definitely look at the forecast!
