There was no sloths 😭😭😭😭😭. Sloths are my favorite animal🦥🦥🦥💓💓.
We enjoyed watching all zoo. We enjoyed walking around zoo and easy one bus without changable another bus.
What a beautiful experience visiting Taronga Zoo. We had such a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. There is something special about being able to get up close and see so many amazing animals. The zoo is absolutely beautiful, the views over Sydney Harbour are breathtaking, and everywhere you look there is something wonderful to discover. You can really see the care and effort that goes into making this place so special. The animals are amazing, the surroundings are lovely, and the staff deserve a special mention for their friendliness and dedication. It's one of those places that brings out your sense of wonder, no matter what your age. We made some lovely memories and came away feeling that it was a day very well spent. Thank you, Taronga Zoo, for such a memorable experience. We had an absolutely fantastic time and would highly recommend a visit to anyone. ❤️
Great zoo and lots of fun walking seeing the Australia wildlife. Also great views of Sydney from the zoo. Don’t miss it.
Easy 20 minute transport from Circular Quay and 900 foot gradual uphill walk to lower entrance. Opportunity to see Australian animals that you missed on your walkabout. Can’t leave Australia without seeing a kangaroo!
Small-ish zoo - easy to get around with all the usual favourites. Great views of the city and a nice travel back on the ferry. Ubers were hard to get from here. The food in the outlets was a bit of a tourist tax price so take your own picnics. All the animals look healthy and well cared for and the talks (especially chimps) were informative and interesting.
Amazing zoo with great habitat for animals. I didn’t pre-book Koala experience and missed out. Signage in zoo needs more maps posted at all locations where more than one path choice. Also need more signage to indicate how to get back to ferry. Buying a hop on hop off pass is cheaper if you want to see more of the outer harbour and go to Manly beach
I had an amazing time and look forward to returning one day. There are so many animals, exhibits, and entertainment you will definitely need an entire day to view everything.
The zoo itself is beautiful, and it’s lovely to see it constantly developing. The volunteers are fantastic and always so helpful. But the food situation… oh boy. 😂 On a busy Sunday, we were basically fighting for our lives over burgers, while simultaneously trying to carry said burgers, drinks and children with absolutely no trays in sight. For such a beautiful, world class attraction, the food feels like a bit of an afterthought. But yes, we still love Taronga. We’ll be back. Just possibly after eating lunch somewhere else first. 😂
The pits, walked in at the bottom end & hardly any animals to be seen. Exhibits & enclosures look tired, animals look bored, saw a bird walking around. Big whoop. Walked back out after 45 minutes. Ferry ride over was the highlight
What an incredible day at the zoo! Taronga is a must visit when you’re in Sydney. All of the animals were so happy, and every guide we met was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! Definitely a highlight of our time in Sydney!!
Booked a family ticket to Taronga Zoo direct with the organisation. Paying online took a while as payment protections between my cards & zoo didn’t work. Centrally funded, Taronga is very cheap for what it is. It should be the number 1 choice for any animal lovers visiting Sydney. Views are amazing as it overlooks harbour - bridge & opera house.
kangroos and ostridges were running around feeding not allowed but can touch lions were awsome when they roar in the morning u can here them in sydney 8km distance birds are so unique in australia bird show was great too and sea lion show was awsome
Per their website, “Opened on October 7, 1916, Taronga Zoo houses over 4,000 animals across 350 species, focusing on native Australian wildlife and global conservation. It is open daily from 9:30 AM.” I'm still raving about this experience because I've never been to a zoo quite like this! It started out with a beautiful ferry ride from Circular Quay and directly after buying tickets, we came super close to a sea lion! This closeness ended up becoming the “theme” of the park, in which we spent a full day interacting with animals in open enclosures or at least getting much closer to them than you would in the U.S. TIP #1: Eat at “Views” for lunch - it has spectacular views of Sydney, from across the water. TIP #2: For an even MORE AMAZING time, consider booking a night at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga!
Really great zoo. Awesome selection of interesting animals well kept enclosures really pleasant to walk around one of the most interesting zoo I’ve been to.
Amazing zoo! We went in August. The weather was perfect - not too cold and wet with sun and a slight breeze. All the animals were out and sun bathing. Don't miss the Aviary and seal shows. Get there at the opening if you want to secure the popular animal experiences. We enjoyed the giraffe and dingo experience. Also wear walking shoes and have fun.
DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THIS COMPANY ITS IN AMERICA DOLLARS NOT AUSTRALIAN NO WHERE DOES IT SAY THIS I TRIED TO GET JUST PARTIAL REFUND AND NO ONE WOULD HELP ME. WHAT A CON OF A COMPANY. Zoo was good as always.
To gain the most out of this visit I would allow at least 6 hours. There is lots to see while there.
Having seen Taronga zoo in tv, we were excited about our experience. However, the lack of signage on the walkways was poor and at times despite the map, we struggled to negotiate around the zoo. This was mirrored by several other visitors who appear bamboozled like us. Clear signs on each junction would be helpful. Some enclosures were low on animals, but understand this may have good reasons for limited animals available. But bottom line we didn’t see them. The Zoo talks were good, but tricky to get to when there was two on at a time. The seal encounter was great and the bloke presenting was awesome. However, a sign on the footpath outlining a cut off - for the amount of people that could enter would be a suggestion. It seemed crazy we started queuing 30 minutes before the show. The chimpanzee yarn was really good, as was the Aussie animals alive presentation was excellent for us and the young kids perspective. Zoo staff were mixed with their support. We appreciate some are volunteers, but some appeared ill informed. Great views from the giraffe enclosure of the harbour. Cool to get up close to meerkats. 10 out of 10 for the educational angle the zoo shared. Unfortunately, when others have asked us about this experience. We have replied that we wouldn’t suggest it.
Taronga Zoo is a must visit while in Sydney ! Our family of 6 loved our time here - it is a unique zoo experience - getting the ferry from Circular quay added to the fun for our family. The zoo is well stocked with amazing animals - it is very well maintained with stunning views back into Sydney. The animals looked very well cared for. The staff were pleasant, helpful & professional. We loved the Seal show - very entertaining & educational. Highly recommend as an activity to do in Sydney.
The Zoo was fun and my inlaws had a great time seeing the animals and watching the seals perform. Definitely will recommend to my friends.
Amazing place to visit just not enough time to see it all and couldn't see all the animals Some enclosureade it even hard to get a picture or see the animals
The Zoo had a good amount of exhibits plenty to see. The view of Syndey Harbor from the zoo is outstanding. Highly recommend starting at the top and working your way down
The Taronga Zoo is an excellent zoo, easily one of the best that I have ever been to (and I’ve been to a lot). Just a few things: 1. You pretty much need to take a ferry to get there, but that was part of the adventure. 2. When we got there, people were catching a bus to an entrance. We just used the entrance that was right by the dock. It was not busy at all and the exhibits here were not crowded at all. It was an uphill walk though, but it was a good trade off for minimal people around. 3. This strategy also helped with the restaurant there for lunch. It was empty when we got there at 11 (but got busy after). We got our food very quickly and had our choice of seating. 4. Great mixture of native Australian animals and international animals. Even got to see a pretty active Tasmanian devil and platypus. 5. The zoo is big. We were there almost all day and still had to skip a section of the zoo (seals and the Africa section). This is definitely a premiere zoo and you get some good cardio with it. And for those interested, we did both this and Featherdale Wildlife Park and were not sure if it would feel redundant. While there are some similar animals, they are very different. The zoo has a mix of animals, takes quite a bit of time, and is more visually appealing. Featherdale allows for more interaction with animals and it only have Australian animals. Both are enjoyable.
What a great way to spend the afternoon with cute creatures! The zoo is expansive and clean. Plan to spend the whole day there if you want to see all of the exhibits. We only had 3hrs before our boat took us back but we were still able to have a good time and see a good amount of animals.
Every time I am in Sydney, I go to the Taronga Zoo. I have been doing that since 1988. I have just returned from my 22nd trip to Sydney, and the same number of times to the Zoo. The variety of animals, used to make the day out there, a wonderful experience. That is no longer the case. Many of the large animals are no longer there. They have been moved to other Zoos. The group of delightful Meerkats, was down to 3. They looked completely lost in their enclosure. One of the big attractions, was the Bird Show. That has changed a lot and is not the exciting show it was. Even the numerous staff who were always around to help you negotiate the enormous site, were noticeable by their absence Yes, the beautiful view of the City is still the same, but overall, the Zoo has lost a lot of its charm and excitement. I was disappointed this time. My friends who live in Sydney, told me I would be. I didn't expect to be, but I was. Normally I thought nothing of the entry cost because a full day spent at the Zoo, was worth it. This time I was only there for 3 hours. If you are thinking of a trip there with a family, it will be quite expensive now. If you have never been before, the overall experience, will still be enjoyable. If you have been before, and are returning to capture the wonderful past experience, it is sadly not the same at all.
Great selection of animals, hilly, great location, great views, easy to get to from Circular Quay, great staff
It is a beautiful zoo. Definitely worth a visit. Animal habitats are all planned and cared for. Zoo keepers give great talks. You need a full day. You can arrive by Uber and then leave by the ferry. When you purchase general ticket just go in and show your pass.
We treated our 12-year-old grandson to a day at Taronga Zoo for his birthday. He loved finding the different animals, and being out to tour guide and following the map. Great map we loved it! The restaurant area could do with a bit of renovation.
Hopefully you get a driver/ tour person who speaks clearly. We had a really nice driver but I only understood about 1/3 of his conversations because of his accent . That was disappointing.
We had great fun here, the tigers and lions are magnificent! You can see that they really look after their animals and have a real care. Would definitely recommend!
Amazing zoo and epic encounters (Koalas). The gift shop is great and restrooms clean. Staff are friendly too.
We loved this zoo. Everything was laid out nice and easy to navigate. We got to see most animals. Lots of shade but lots walking. They had a train to take you around the zoo. (Extra fee)
The Sydney zoo is a must visit. The views from the zoo are stunning. They have a great array of animals. The view that the giraffes have is out of this world!
Brilliant zoo! So much to see and can definitely make a full day of it here! The nocturnal animals and booking the koala experience were our favourites! Lots of lovely shade as you walk around, we went on a Sunday and it wasn’t too busy, other than the food hall which was both busy and very warm.
An experience for all ages. Get a map and speak with volunteers as they will assist you make the most of your day. The bird show and seal show were standouts. Food is expensive so plan ahead. Lots of walking, shady spots to rest.
A really great family day out, especially if you combine this with a boat trip across to Circular Quay. The zoo is deceptively large and you do really need a full day here. The animal shows are particularly worthwhile, educational, entertaining and a good focus on sustainability and the environment. We saw the sea-lion/seal show and also the bird show, both brilliantly presented. There are lots of public spaces where you can eat your packed lunch and fill up your water bottle. The only part we didn't enjoy was the food hall as it was absolutely packed so I would strongly recommend taking your own food. There are lots of places to grab a drink as you go round.
What an amazing zoo. It’s probably the best zoo I have ever visited. We did the koala encounter which was awesome. We loved the variety of exhibits. The zoo is built on a hill overlooking Sydney harbor. I’ve never been to a zoo with escalators. It was a very enjoyable visit.
This was a complete waste of money and time in our opinion. Whilst I’m sure the zoo complies with the minimum animal welfare standards, I felt sad seeing the tiny, often grubby enclosures with animals who looked utterly bored and stuck in small spaces. Animals are entitled to rest during the day but we saw so few animals, it felt odd. The park is very poorly laid out, the maps are misleading and the biggest laugh was the ‘tiger trek/flight’ which is not a real tiger, but a strange room where some of the screens didn’t even work. Super weird! The cost of entry, a water ($9 for a bottle!!) and the rundown state of this zoo means we would not recommend to anyone. Don’t waste your money or time here.
Great experience with good talks for different animals throughout the day which gave a good insight. Buses pick you up from the ferry so saves you walking up the hill.
This zoo is located in a spectacular location on a green hillside opposite Sydney Harbour. We reached it via ferry from Circular Quay, but it can also be reached by road. There are a wide range of animals, including rhino, lions, giraffes, tigers, seals, penguins and most of Australia’s indigenous species and you can get close to the animals, mostly behind glass, but inside the enclosures on the case of the kangaroos and ostriches. You can see most of the animals in a couple of hours, but need longer if you attend the events. At 50 dollars per adult, this was great value for money.
I love taking the ferry like a local and seeing Sydney from the harbour whilst visiting Tauranga zoo would really recommend that you wear good walking shoes as the zoo is a bit hilly and comfortable clothing. Definitely make time to see the Berteau. Highly recommend it.
Great zoo. Very easy to get from Sydney. About a $2 ferry ticket (just tap on and off) from Circular Quay. I recommend taking the additional city transport bus from the ferry station at the zoo up to the top. That way when you explore the zoo it’s all downhill and you end at the ferry station again. It is possible to start from the ferry station and work your way up but it is a pretty significant climb. Many different animal exhibits including many animals native to Australia and the Oceania region. They have a ropes course and some other add-on experiences I did not try. Overall it is well worth the money. Budget anywhere from 1.5-3 hours to walk to zoo without any add on experiences.
A total rip off. Most cages were empty of just a single lonely animal inside. Only 1 koala in the Koala House. No food in the canteens by 2 pm. Unfriendly staff and hundreds of them. Definitely a waste of money and embarrassing to take our overseas guests
Great zoo, very well maintained and stunning views of the city. Had a great amount of native species which was fun to see!
We bought our Captain Cook ferry and Taronga Zoo combo tickets on Tripadvisor the morning of our trip. We took the cheap light rail train from our hotel in Chinatown to Circular Quay and traded in our ticket for ferry and zoo admission tickets. Caught the next ferry which went directly to the zoo pier. When you get off the pier take a free city bus or a free zoo bus to the top of the zoo entrance. That way you will mostly be walking downhill as you explore the zoo. Since we are zoo people we spent most of the day looking at animals from Australia. When we entered we asked a zoo volunteer the best places to see koalas and platypus. He said there are only two mating koalas in the exhibit to the right of the main entrance. He said to watch more koalas go to Koala Country. There were a lot of koalas in trees and in areas were guests can get a quick close encounter for $A15. For platypus he said to go to the Nocturnal Country. There is one platypus in a large pool that is very active. Volunteer said to get down by the glass and he will swim by. The other platypus is in an outdoor area which is very hard to find. We did stop for the Seals for the Wild show and had lunch at the Taronga Food Market. We did look at some other animals along the way.
Zoo very poor run down. All the animals asleep. All eating place's closed. Why take booking at 2pm when all closed at 3pm. Deceitful. What a waste of money and time. Never again 🤢
What a great day we had at the zoo. We managed to get to a lot of the "shows" and thoroughly enjoyed the sealion show and the free flight bird show was stunning. As an aside there were also great views of the city. The animal keepers were so proud to tell about their animals. A great day - not to be missed
Visited the zoo back in October. Purchased some mementos. One being a kids cup for my 4yr old. Quality terrible - all the graphics came off within 3 weeks. Reached out. Got an apology and a ‘we will send you another’. Never did. They just lie to you. Shame.
