We experienced a great tour with Richard shared by he wide knowledge of Chinese history, culture and food. I learnt heaps and food was delightful and very varied and a little bit quirky (not conventional Chinese takeaway!).

Itinerary
We start the tour outside Paddy's Markets, an important institution that heralded the beginnings of Sydney's Chinatown.
Walk through Dixon Street, the heart of Sydney's Chinatown and the largest Chinatown in the Southern Hemisphere. You'll hear stories of how the area has developed over the decades, and continues to change. Be introduced to several important Chinese-Australians and their contributions to Chinatown, Sydney and Australia. Sample delicious regional street foods from several different restaurants on and near Dixon Street.
We pause outside the Chinese Garden of Friendship and tell you about the history of this lesser-known attraction. Over 30 years old, the Chinese Garden of Friendship is modelled on a Southern Chinese style scholars garden, and a beautiful spot for respite in the middle of the city. We don't enter the garden, although you can visit it after the tour and take your time exploring.
Explore Darling Square, one of Sydney's newest precincts full of restaurants, cafes and things to see.

This was a great tour. Roger was an enthusiastic guide and kept us all interested with his knowledge of the Chinatown area. Recommended!
Richard was fantastic, than you for a great experience.
This food tour of Sydney’s China town was a wonderful way to eat great food and learn about the history and culture of the Chinese immigrants to Australia. The tour featured local cuisines throughout the different provinces of China and were delicious. Highly recommend this tour and our tour guide Roger was so knowledgeable and did an amazing job.
Excellent tour! Richard was fantastic. And the food was delicious. Such a great experience for locals and visitors alike.
What a great tour! We saw parts of Chinatown that we hadn't seen before and we are locals. The food was delicious and the history of the Chinese in Australia was very interesting. Roger was obviously very passionate about the history as well as the food and a great storyteller. We would definitely recommend this tour to overseas visitors and locals alike. I will be back for more food!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a fun and memorable way to experience Sydney’s Chinatown! Even though we’ve lived in Australia for basically our whole lives, we learned so much about the history, culture and stories of the area that we had absolutely no idea about. The tour was the perfect mix of fascinating history, great conversation and, of course, AMAZING food. We tried some delicious dishes, discovered places we probably would have walked right past, and came away seeing Chinatown in a completely different way. And a huge shoutout to our guide, **Richard**, who was absolutely fantastic! He was so personable, knowledgeable and fun, and really made the whole experience special. **Give that man a raise!** 😂👏 Fun, informative, delicious and genuinely memorable — such a great experience whether you’re visiting Sydney or think you already know it well.Highly recommend! 🥟🥢❤️
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a wonderful time on the Chinatown tour! It was a great way to discover Sydney’s history, culture, and delicious food. Richard was an amazing guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and very passionate. He made the tour fun and interesting from beginning to end. Highly recommended! Thank you, Richard, for such a lovely experience! 😊🥟❤️
Justin, our tour guide was knowledgeable and helped educate us on the best spots for the best Chinese cuisine. We had a great time. We learned about the area while trying delicious foods!
Had an excellent food tour in Chinatown. Within 3 hours, we tried a variety of foods which were all delicious and learned about the history of the area. Even though it was a walking tour, the walking area was relatively flat with short walks between the different eateries. Justin was very friendly, made sure we were fine at all times and gave lots of helpful tips on where to eat and activities to do while in Sydney. This is certainly a tour for someone looking to explore the amazing food scene in Sydney!!
We were the only ones signed up for this tour so it was a 'private' tour for us. Roger, our tour guide was punctual, informative, and professional. We are both Chinese Canadian from Vancouver, BC, Canada and grew up eating a lot of different Chinese cuisine. We never appreciated where foods originated from China. This tour put 2+2 together. We enjoyed a taste of these familiar foods. We also liked hearing how Chinese immigrants struggled in the early 20th century in Sydney and how Chinatown was established. This tour is a little off the beaten path, but if you are interested in food and or history, you should take this tour. Travel tip: You should be full after this tour, but if not, visit Paddy's Markets/Hay Market food stalls next to Chinatown.
it's fun. I really enjoyed walking around learning about the history and cultural significance of the Sydney Chinatown. The food was amazing and the guide was very accommodating to guest, especially us that could not walk as fast. It made me excited to continue to explore Chinatown and all that is has to enjoy.
A great experience and highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. I was fascinated by the history of the Chinese people role in the great gold rush, their contribution to both world wars, and the heavy handed approach of governments to hinder their migration to Australia.
Roger gave us a great insight into the history of China Town in the broader Sidney context. We tasted fabulous foods and discovered hidden eateries.
I recently joined the Sydney Chinatown Street Food and Stories Walking Tour, and it was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide, Richard, was kind, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. He shared interesting stories about Chinatown’s history, culture, and food, which made the tour both fun and educational. The street food was delicious, and we had the chance to try a variety of local favorites. What made the experience even better was the amazing group of people on the tour. Everyone was friendly, open-minded, and willing to try anything. The positive energy from the group made the whole experience enjoyable and memorable. Thank you, Richard, for making the tour so engaging and welcoming. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to discover great food, fascinating stories, and meet wonderful people along the way.
Very well organised from start to finish. We had a large group of 26 but Justin was able to look after us all. We had 4-5 small dishes each, all were really tasty. The dumpling place was my personal favourite.
Such a fun time, Roger was very informative about Chinatown & the history of Chinese immigration. Delicious food with good recommendations. Loved the lollies.
The tour was great. We learnt about the history of Chinatown while sampling delicious traditional Chinese food from different regions. The tour supported local family owned eateries. Roger our tour guide was interesting and passionate about fresh local food. Highly recommend the tour. Trish and Niki
I took this tour on the morning I arrived in Sydney, after a 15 hour flight from Los Angeles, so I was badly jet-lagged. I am sorry to say I do not remember the name of both guides; one was Justin. Forgive me for not remembering the other gentleman, because both were EXCELLENT. Well informed, knowledgeable about Sydney’s history and founding, how the Chinese and other ethnic communities arrived in Australia, the origin and stories surrounding many of the foods we sampled. The tour itself does not cover a huge area, but the history, span, and communities that are part of the story are vast. These gentleman did a lovely job. The restaurants and food stalls we visited were fun and tasty. The foods sampled are relatable, not too exotic or off-the-path. (As they said, “no chicken feet.“) They also gave us a list of the places we visited, so we can find them again; the places are easy to find again, if you want to go back. Finally, I was personally quite interested in the rather darker period in Australian history/politics which ushered in the White Australia Policy. (I have known quite a number of Australians with whom I have talked who tried to whitewash or minimize this law — and the attitude it comes from.) Justin and (forgive me for forgetting) the Other Fellow were up-front, unafraid to talk about uncomfortable topics, and clear about explaining the history. Bravo! This tour is excellent, fun, and delicious!
The tour guides where passionate and extrememly knowlegeable. The food was amazing. The tour was beyond my expectations. Highly recommend it. Esp because I am not a very adventourous eater but the food was amazing. I have a whole new undersatanding of Chinatown now, past and present. Roger was so animated and invested. Great time
Roger was our guide and it was an amazing experience! Not only did we get some great bites of food from local restaurants but we got a really great history of Chinese life and culture in Australia.
Bruce was a bit of a Ledgend. Superior knowledge of the history, culture but also the cuisine . Would definitely recommend this tour
Had a great experience. Bruce certainly had good knowledge of various Chinese food and gave us recommendations to visit on our own. If you’re a foodie, you’ll enjoy this tour 😋
Great lots of yummy food and interesting info. Our tour guide Bruce was lots of fun
Excellent tour and the food was amazing. Bruce our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the area, history and cuisine. Would highly recommend to others.
I really enjoyed the Chinatown Street Food tour with Bruce. He was extremely knowledgeable about the regional cuisines of China as illustrated by the various foods that we sampled. He also gave us plenty of information about the history of Chinatown and the Chinese in Australia.
Our tour guide Justin led us on a historical and culinary tour around Chinatown where we sampled food from different regions around China. This tour could have been a disaster as the heavens opened up and it poured rain. Justin's local knowledge kept the whole tour moving along a good pace and his stories entertained while we were waiting for our food to be prepared. I like Chinese food, but we sampled things I had never eaten before. All good. My favourite was the soup dumplings. Justin did a great job on a very rainy evening. So good, my husband and I would like to do the tour again!
Even though we were born and bred in Sydney, this tour introduced us to places that we would never have found without Justin. He was a great guide. Now that we know about these places, we will definitely return. The breakfast roll was something we hadn't experienced before and the dumplings were amazing. All the food and restaurants were great and Justin's commentary was the icing on the cake, so to speak! This is a great tour for a view of Sydney's Chinatown from the inside, with lovely food, a great guide to explain everything to you, and a good dose of local history that is not often told. We had a lot of fun.
Interesting tour where we had food that I wouldn't normally try. Bruce was a very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
We took the Local Sauce food tour through Chinatown during our trip to Sydney. Bruce was our tour guide and he was excellent! He was very enthusiastic about the food, the vendors and the history of Sydney's Chinatown! The tour ended up being about 2.5 hrs, but it was time well spent. Bruce was very friendly and knowledgeable and did his best to interact with each of participants on the tour. If you're in Sydney and looking for a great food tour, I can't recommend Local Sauce highly enough!
We had an excellent food tour of Chinatown. Our guide Bruce was very nice and a wealth of information about the foods of China, the history of their migration to Sydney. The food selections were very tasty, wish we had more time to go back and enjoy many more meals in Chinatown. We did manage to go back and get more dumplings at Nanjing Dumplings. Thank you Bruce for a great tour. Diana an George, AZ , USA
We had a wonderful tour of Chinatown with Bruce. His knowledge of the food was fabulous. Bruce was very kind and we thoroughly enjoyed the food selections. We went back the next day to get more dumplings at Najing .
Fantastic tour. Justin has a talent for story telling that brought the area, stories, history & people to life.
Justin is an absolute legend and a great storyteller. We tried a variety of different dishes and plenty I would not have normally considered or ordered and I was pleasantly surprised by all. Highly recommended this tour.
I recently did a Chinatown Street Food & Stories tour with Justin & Bruce from Local Sauce Tours. The food was incredible and just the right amount, we saw parts of Chinatown that I never knew existed, and OMG those dumplings were incredible!. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Sydney
We did the Chinatown tour with Justin and Bruce. It was fantastic, just the right amount of information and food. They knew all of the hidden gems and the soup dumplings were definitely a highlight 😋
Bruce was very interesting explaining all the different Chinese cooking styles. Our samples were far from the "normal" Chinese restos in the USA.
Bruce was a great guide. The pork and truffle were delicious and I went back for more the following night. He guided us to some hidden gems and different foods that I would not have associated with China. The history of chinatown and the area is also interesting. Highly recommended.
Our guide, Bruce, was very knowledgeable and kept the group entertained. The history of Chinatown is interesting and we were guided to a number of food alleyways and outlets inside buildings that I wasn't aware of. We also had styles of food that I wouldn't normally associate with Chinese. The pork and truffle dumplings were to die for and I returned to have them for dinner the following day. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
Justin was an amazing guide around Chinatown. I appreciated learning about the history of Chinatown just as much as the foods we were able to sample.
Enjoy the stories and try new food. The explanations and stories were engaging. Bruce our guide was knowledgeable. We enjoyed the nibbles and flavours
Amazing tour! You will not only eat but learn so much from this experience. Incredibly considerate and kind tour guides, wonderful tour on all fronts.
We had a great time with China Food Tours. The walk was very well paced and the guide shared really interesting insights about the history of Chinese communities in Australia and Sydney, which added a lot of depth to the experience. The food was tasty and thoughtfully chosen, showcasing flavours from different regions of China. It’s worth noting that the tour focuses more on snack-style tastings rather than full meals — but for me, it was more than enough and felt just right. A really enjoyable and informative experience that I’d happily recommend.

Being a Sydneysider I’ve never really experienced China town before. Justin was an amazing guide with the history and also very yummy food to sample, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. And doing it with people from all around the world made it even better…
This was a fantastic tour and well worth it. Justin's knowledge of Chinese cuisine is second to none, and we got to sample an awesome range of foods. I think we could eat in Chinatown every night of our stay and not be bored.
Justin was amazing. The food was great, but the history of Chinatown and the immigrant experience in Australia made the tour most memorable. Highly recommend.
Great tour with lots of information and really good food. Justin was a fantastic guide who provided good and detailed insights into China Town and the food we sampled.
Wherever we travel we try to do a food tour on our first day. Justin’s tour of Chinatown showed us just how great this is. We learned so much , got familiar with the local geography, and ate some delicious food. It set us up for the remainder of our visit. We now feel confident that we can find a tasty meal without worry. Thanks Justin!
Geographically Chinatown issn't very big, yet somehow 2.5 hours had elapsed in between saying hello and goodbye to our extremely informative guide. The time truly flew and the information was provided in a most entertaining way. We stopped at 4 of the small family run restaurants where the dishes were all so different and represented different regions of China. Exceptional value for money
