Itinerary
Arrive on the traditional lands of the Worimi people in the tranquil coastal village of Nelson Bay. Depart on 90-minute Dolphin Discovery Cruise with Moonshadow Cruises on the turquoise blue waters of Port Stephens, a veritable marine wonderland. This extraordinary natural harbour is home to some 140 bottle nose dolphins who will entrance you by their playful and intelligent nature as they frolic around the boat or surf the bow waves. Be mindful to also look out for other wildlife including pelicans, sea eagles, the occasional seal and of course humpback whales during the winter months.
Lunch will be at your own expense in Nelson Bay, allowing you the flexibility to choose from a variety of local dining options.
Depart Nelson Bay and travel to the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary which supports the long-term rehabilitation, preservation and conservation of koala in the wild. This $ 10 million project has been jointly funded by the NSW State Government and the Port Stephens council to provide care for sick, injured or orphaned Koalas with the aim of releasing them back into the wild. Accompany your guide on the Sanctuary Story Walk, along a flat 250m pathway with large Koala sculptures that educate about Koala and its natural habitat. Clients can take a look into the $ 5 million Koala Hospital which is making a direct contribution to the long-term survivability of the wild Koala population in the Port Stephens region. The final attraction is the Sanctuary SKYwalk a 225mtr elevated pathway with viewing platforms in the tree top canopy where you have the rare opportunity of seeing one of Australia’s most iconic marsupials in the wild.
Our final stop is at the world-renowned Stockton sand dunes, a coastal desert that is 32km long and the largest mobile sand dune system in the southern hemisphere. Meet your friendly drivers from Port Stephens 4WD Tours, and board a 19-seater 4WD red bus for the 2km drive to “The Dunes”. Now it’s time for Adventure as you sand board down the huge sand dunes that make up this idyllic setting.

We had an awesome experience with Chen our tour guide! Would definitely do it again!
Three unique experiences in one day. Us was nice and included chargers for the phone. Yan was so kind to take a wonderful family pic! He gave good tips too! The koalas were adorable 🥰
Fun trip. Chen and mayuko were great.
Highy recommended honestly. Best service, Amazing driver, Reliable, absolute fun time, affordable prices. This is my second experience and also not the last. Thanks Brighton Tour. Really appreciate your effort.
Fantastic day with our driver Yan being a real star. The Dolphins were out in numbers and the views breathtaking from Port Stephen The Koala sanctuary was special too and has to be worth a visit to support what they are doing Then topped off with sand boarding taking me back to being a 5 year old sledging back home im the UK Worth every penny and will do this again when we come back
This was one of the best tours I have ever taken. Yan (our driver) took very good care of us. The dolphin cruise was very exciting and relaxing. The meal onboard was very tasty. I fell in love at the Koala Sanctuary. This is a must visit place and even offers glamping places to stay. It was truly inspiring. We ended with sand boarding at the Sand dunes. I have never done this before and it was so much fun. Overall the whole tour is a must! You will truly enjoy yourself.
Went on a 1 day Port Stephen's tour [Dolphin Cruise Watch, Koala's Sanctuary, 4WD Sandboarding], awesome tour plan. More people should visit Koala's Sanctuary, got a lot of Koala's to see and visit. Driver & Tour Guide [Yan] is a good driver, always taking care of the whole tour group with snacks, water, and toilet break. Recommend to join this tour.
The experience was really fun and the koala sanctuary was amazing We had a lot of fun and we recommend this to everyone if they want to enjoy their day.
導遊yan is a good tour guide, who introduces the spots detailedly, and provide a great experience to the tourists
Amazing experience to travel far distance places. Surely will book more trips. The driver gave us the best time at port Stephen trip . Thank you so much
Enjoyed this Port Stephens dolphin cruise, koala sanctuary visit and especially the sand boarding so much! Yan is an excellent bus driver guide, same as his assistant Joe. Love to join the Brighton Tours again next time. Highly recommended! This is an English and Mandarin tour but no selection from the list.
Excellent! Yan & Joe were awesome. Good for family. Kids enjoyed the sandboarding and overall trip was very really good experience.
We had a wonderful tour to Port Stephens, led by Yan with support from Joe. The experience was excellent, and everything was very well organised.
Was amazing , Yan was awesome and so informative and friendly. Def doing port Stephens again once in a lifetime experience! Def recommend
it was perfect daily tour. guides are so kind and this tous has a lot of view and enjoying things. we had fish and chips, it was soo delicious.
Gordon bring us to Port Stephen where we had an unforgettable memory with wonderful weather there and the coach is very new and comfortable
My mother and I did the English + Chinese version of this tour with Gordon. He was excellent! He did a really great job with prioritizing all customers, speaking and translating in both languages so we all received information at appropriate timing. He was very personable, friendly and timely. The activities on the tour itself were really wonderful as well - got to see many dolphins, the fish and chips on board the boat were delicious, loved the stop at the koala sanctuary and sand boarding was SO much fun! Great value for all of these activities in a single day with included lunch and round trip transportation.
Great experience, tour guide Gordon is friendly and very helpful!! It was unlucky that we didn't see the Dolphins but my kid is excited non the less. The lunch is exceptional, unlike most other tours only fill your bellies with junks!
Tour guide Yan is very friendly. He helps us take nice family pictures. He can speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Lunch arrangement is good. We manage to see dolphins.
The experience is wonderful! We have an opportunity to see dolphins and koala. The sandboarding is also amazing. I recommend this tour for everyone!
The driver was really good ! Highly recommended! The tour was packed with just the right timing and it was smooth and rewarding.
The tour guides, Hide and Sota, were truly wonderful. Of course, I was also wonderfully moved by the jumping dolphins, and the sand sliding on the dunes was a lot of fun, but Hide's guide had a soul in his knowledge, and every word was full of feeling, which I think made this tour even more wonderful. I want people who read this to also participate in this wonderful experience that makes you forget that the weather was rainy.
Guide ren is very welcoming, bilingual and gives us a great Australian experience
I searched veltra for a Japanese guided tour and applied here. We were the only pair of Japanese participants on the day, but our Japanese guide Mayuko followed us and gave us explanations in Japanese! The first dolphin cruise also saw a lot of dolphins in the best place thanks to the first guide. Thank you very much. If you are in midsummer, we recommend you bring your own Crocs and change of clothes. The sand slide at the end will be quite sandy.
Gordon was very patient and friendly, sharing a lot of Australian history with us along the way, giving us a better understanding of the local ethos, and the three-hour drive was fun and not boring at all. It was a very full day chasing dolphins, anna bay sand, and seeing little koalas at koala hospital.
We joined on 9/4/2025 🇦🇺 Guide Miyuki, he was very friendly and we enjoyed hearing many stories about Australia 👏Thank you 🙌 The driver Yang was also very good at Japanese~👍
The Chen guide is fantastic! Be serious and responsible. It's well organized, well planned, and the point in time of the confession is clear! The whole trip is easy and fun for all ages! Lucky to see dolphins frolicking on cruises! Half sea, half desert, strange landscape, sand-skiing is the game of the brave. It's highly recommended to visit anyway.
The weather is fine today. Driver and guide YAN. People are nice. Warm and patient, detailed explanation on the way. Speak English once and Chinese once. It took care of tourists from different countries on the train. It was great. Dolphins saw it. Chinese food is good. The koalas also took good-looking pictures. Sands are fun. YAN taught us the basics of action in Chinese. Actively help us take pictures. Very good guide. Thanks Yan.
I went on a cruise tour to see the dolphins in Port Stephens! It was a very strong day and there were swells, but we were able to see a family of dolphins! 98% of them can see it. I went up to the top floor and took videos and photos straight away, but you can (naturally) see it closer from the first floor deck. The fish and chips we got on board after the cruise were crispy and crispy, and we were very happy with the salad. After eating, disembark and go to Koala Sanctuary, where injured and sick koalas are treated at the park's Koala Hospital and raised while being protected. We saw the cherished koalas that each received their name in nature surrounded by eucalyptus chi. The volunteer staff are there to help with the visitors and answer a lot of questions (I asked a lot through the guide). Here, the entrance fee, souvenirs and cafe sales all go towards protecting koalas, so I thought my admission fee and shopping would be a meaningful visit to help koalas. Sandboarding in the 32 kilometers of Stockton Dunes, I was a little spooked at first, but surprisingly I was fine. You don't have to be young to do this lol, but if you are young, you probably don't want to ski back again and again. On the way home, the bus was able to rest slowly, watching the photos and videos we took and sleeping. The bus on the tour has a USB port, so it was good to charge it. The guides on the Brighton tour were not only friendly, but also very knowledgeable. The tour taught us a lot of trivia about Australia, dolphins, koalas and more. It was from the early morning because of the distance to Port Stephen, but it was fun and very meaningful to have various experiences. Thanks for your help. Thank you.
