Amazing morning. Learned about this trip from Dave our guide while on his wombat and kangaroo (stargazing) tour. Both tours were iconic. Remain at the very top of my best memories of my 9 week journey. Don’t miss either of them.

I booked this tour about a week prior to the start of my trip to Sydney, primarily because it sounded moderately interesting and was being offered by the same tour company that was in charge of my Waterfalls and Wildlife tour. I wasn't committed to taking it, but I wanted to have the ability to do so if I didn't find something else that piqued my interest. Worst case scenario, I cancelled too late and was out $40 or $50. After taking the wonderful Waterfalls and Wildlife tour the day before with Dave and Perfect Day Sydney, wild horses couldn't have stopped me from taking this one, especially after finding out that Dave was leading it once again. This time, instead of having to walk to a meeting point, Dave picked me up at my hotel. And since I was the last pickup out of the group, we left from there and immediately crossed the iconic Harbour Bridge. We got some great information from the best drivertainer in Australia as we drove north through gentrified neighborhoods and stunning coastal suburbs. Still solidly in the greater Sydney urban area, we suddenly stopped at a greenspace in a neighborhood and learned we were at our destination. Dave had promised we would see a few flying foxes, and upon seeing hundreds or possibly even thousands, I couldn't dispute his claim! Dave was very informative at the stop, letting the group know that the flying foxes were protected, thus this subtropical forest chock full of them right in the middle of the suburbs. It's genuinely hard to believe that this exists. In the suburbs. But it's fascinating nonetheless. The flying foxes were active, very visible and obviously completely unconcerned about either our tour group or their apartment-living human neighbors. We had a solid hour there, with plenty of time for photos, videos, and Dave offered to take photos of his amazed tourists with flying foxes in motion behind them. He even took us to the backside of the wooded area so that the sun would be on the better side for photos. There was also a beautiful kookaburra that posed for photos like he knew he was fulfilling some birders dreams. On the way back to the CBD, Dave asked if we wanted to swing by one of the best photo op spots for the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and skyline. We did, and he was right! It really is great to view all three from across the water and was a nice finishing touch before dropping everyone off at their hotels. I suspect this tour doesn't have the universal appeal of the Waterfalls & Wildlife one, but it's great nonetheless. I would call it a must for wildlife enthusiasts, naturalists, families with small to medium-sized kids, people who appreciate the quirky side of travel, and for those who want memories beyond the things you see on brochures and postcards.
I saw more than what I expected, it was near a neighborhood. We saw lizards bin chickens, two different types of bats and more Plus our guide was very knowledgeable.
Such a unique and memorable experience! Seeing thousands of flying foxes up close was absolutely incredible. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable and made the whole experience really interesting and fun. I learned a lot and got to see a completely different side of Sydney. Definitely worth doing if you love wildlife and want something a little different from the usual tourist activities. Highly recommend!
Dave, our guide, was knowledgeable, funny, personable and had all our needs covered before we even knew we needed them, including loaning binoculars and cameras. I booked this trip after taking Perfect Day Sydney's day-long tour of kangaroos, wombats, and beautiful scenery. The Flying Fox trip is perfect for someone who only has half a day to give to wildlife viewing. The two trips complement each other beautifully, but the Flying Fox experience can definitely be a stand alone experience.
The trip is great and Dave is an experienced guide, providing good knowledge, best photo taking location and warm caring with snacks and drink!
Amazing experience watching thousands of flying fox fruit-eating bats hang from trees and fly around at a park near Sydney. This is definitely a "must do" for anyone in the Sydney area. Dave drove us to the park, provided cameras and binoculars, and also gave us the professional photos that he took at no charge via AirDrop. Our family, including two teenagers, really enjoyed watching the bats hang upside down, fly around, and stare at us with their beady little eyes.
Fascinating experience seeing the flying foxes. Our guide, Dave, is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him. He had binoculars so we could see the bats up close and cameras (photos were then downloaded to noir smart phones). Absolutely an amazing experience.
David was the perfect guide. He even added an extra stop for us at the Worm hole which was beautiful! Great snacks, very personable and kind. Highly recommend. He sent us photos of our experience too for life time of memories! Good communication from booking to drop off.
If you love bats or are interested and seeing them up close and learning about them this is the tour for you. I've been on a lot of excursions and Dave was easily one of the nicest tour guides! Very personable, gave us recommendations on other things to do in Sydney, and even offered us water and snacks. He took pictures and videos of us surrounded by bats and even showed us some other gems and the surrounding area free at costs! Highly recommended, 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I booked this tour because I am an avid wildlife watcher, and it sounded very different from experiences I've had elsewhere. I've never been a big fan of bats, but even so, this was a phenomenal morning out the day after Perfect Day Sydney's kangaroo and wombat tour, also highly recommended! Dave, the funniest New Zealander/Aussie this side of Guy Montgomery, picked me up at my hotel then drove our group across the iconic harbor bridge to a fascinating suburban flying fox colony. He promised we would see "at least 50," and there were thousands in this urban jungle. Our small group spent about an hour walking the paths around the colony, getting great photos and videos of bat behavior. On the way back to the CBD, we stopped at the harbor for an amazing panoramic view of Sydney--opera house, bridge, skyline, quay, and even a visiting cruise ship. It was well worth the time and money. I am thrilled to have been able to experience these tours and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for unique, authentic fun while in Sydney.
I assumed these bats would be rare to see but they were everywhere and in plain sight. Our tour guide had a professional camera and shared amazing photos with our group. I’ll definitely do this tour again.
Dave was very friendly and knowledgeable and was good enough to pick me up from my accommodation which saved me an Uber trip and dropped me off on Darling harbour ready for my next excursion. The bats or flying foxes were great to see, much bigger than I thought and was good to see them flying around. He also knew about the other wildlife including spiders etc and when I return to Sydney, I will do the other tour with the kangaroos and wombats., just not enough time on this trip. Thanks for all the photos at the end which you sent to everyone Dave, much better the ones I took. Interesting trip.
This is an amazing experience to see bats that are migrated in a actual neighborhood and not an enclosure and also you will never see this anywhere else
Fantastic trip! Got to see hundreds of flying foxes and took some amazing pictures. A big thank you to Dave who was very knowledgable about the flying foxes and provided us with snacks and softdrinks when we got back to the car :) 100% recommend to anyone who is interested in wildlife and is looking for a trip that doesn't take up the whole day.
Very well organized, everyone was given binoculars, and everyone was even offered cameras tomorrow. Everything went on time.
Great tour! Due to tram delay, we almost missed the tour. I called Dave and he assured us that he would wait for us. As it turns out, we made it on the dot. He brought binoculars and zoom cameras for us to use and also plenty of snacks. Dave took us to the large bat colony while using binoculars, we were able to see the large wingspan close up. While using Dave’s camera, we were able to capture great photos.. we also stopped ant Manley Beach and took a short walk.
This is a must go tour. You're going to see lots of flying Foxes and on trees and flying. You may also see other wild animals (if lucky). They're very friendly and will not get close to you in case you are scared of bats. Dave is a very nice guy and will provide you with a professional Camera to take photos and then will help you transfer them to your phone. He'll also have some snacks and drinks on the van for you. You'll love it!!
One of my all time favourite tours - who ever thought bats flew during the day and also hung upside down in trees? They were everywhere! This is one tour I won’t forget - maybe because I am a bit frightened of bats? So why did I go? Well I couldn’t pass up the chance to see if they really looked like red foxes and they did! So I guess my curiosity got the better of me and I’m glad it did! They flew quite high snd were also really high up in the trees so I felt safe and not even sure why I wasn’t afraid. I got excited telling people, (that would be to complete strangers I met on my trip) about this tour and loved loved seeing their reactions showing them pics that Dave sent along that he took for all of the participants. Glad a few of mine turned out! So glad I went - a memorable afternoon!
Absolutely 100% the best day in Sydney! Dave was amazing, the flying foxes were adorable, and I got memories (and photos!) to last a lifetime. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
This excursion was absolutely incredible! Seeing hundreds of flying foxes up close—hanging, soaring, and filling the sky—was an unforgettable sight. Our guide, Dave, was fantastic. He came prepared with cameras and binoculars for everyone to use and even captured stunning professional photos of the bats, which he generously shared with us afterward. It’s hard to put into words just how amazing this tour was. If you’re in Sydney, don’t miss it—you won’t be disappointed!
Absolutely perfect! Dave is very informative and eager to make sure that you have a perfect trip! He has binoculars and cameras plus shares photos for you!
Fun experience to see a colony of flying foxes. You get to seen them very close and the guide also provided binoculars and camera as well as providing photos taken with a telephoto lens. Great trip that is close to Sydney and well worth seeing.
We were hosted by Dave and had a “one on one” experience that was amazing. Another incredible host here in our trip to Australia. We were picked up at our hotel and he drove us to an incredible little reserve to meet the “Flying Fox” Dave is very knowledgeable and helped us with some incredible pictures. Great experience overall.
The tour was really great! We saw so many flying foxes, it was very impressive. Dave made a real effort and truly lives for animals. You can immediately tell that he genuinely enjoys it. Snacks and drinks were available on the bus, and Dave even brought binoculars and cameras for us. It couldn’t have been better! My friends and I had a lot of fun and would recommend the tour to anyone.
Such a cool experience! Our guide Dave was friendly and knowledgeable. He provided high quality cameras for us to take our own pictures with which was wonderful. Seeing these amazing bats in such great numbers during the day was incredible. Highly recommend!
The bat tour was really successful. We saw the bats really close and got some good photos. In addition to the bats, we also saw some interesting birds. Dave was an excellent guide and had a lot of humor. All the arrangements worked well. It's nice that Dave brings Australian snacks with him on the tour and also has Wi-Fi in the car. Definitely a tour worth experiencing and excellent value for money. I recommend it!
After doing the wombat tour we were really excited to do another trip. Dave is super friendly, knowledgable and has a passion for wildlife which made the tour even more enjoyable. He provided binoculars, professional cameras for us to take our own pictures and sent us lots of incredible photos of the flying foxes after the tour too which made it really special.
This was our second outing with Dave and it was just as great as our first (Wombat and Kangaroo tour). Dave is a great guide - passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife and also takes fantastic photos (of the animals and his guests)! Cannot recommend this and his other tours enough!
Dave is a great guide, and this was my second trip with him. We went to a wonderful spot to view the bats and I took lots of great photos! The nesting ibises were also a nice bonus. :)
🌟 Looking for an amazing tour guide? Book with Dave! 🌟 He's passionate about his business and genuinely cares about his guests. With his incredible knowledge of wildlife, awesome photography skills, and super welcoming vibe, he'll make your tour an unforgettable experience. Plus, he's always prepared with snacks, water, umbrellas, and even binoculars! It was so cool to see these beautiful bats in the wild, so glad we chose this tour. Thanks Dave you’re the best.
Dave was the perfect tour guide - attentive and interesting. We have never seen bats at such close range - made possible by his binoculars. Strongly recommended.
Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!!!! Seeing this majestic flying foxes in their natural habitat was nothing short of unbelievable. Our tour guide Dave knew exactly where to find them and even gave us fancy cameras to take photos with. Great experience. If you are in Sydney this is a must.
This tour was even better than I expected. The tour is well organized yet very relaxed, you never feel rushed. The guide Dave is friendly and knowledgeable, the snacks and bottled water is a nice addition. But the most impressive thing is the animal encounter, seeing bats in the wild in big numbers flying around, climbing trees or chilling together was amazing, the good provides you with a camera and binoculars to make this even better. Book this tour, it’s totally worth it!
Super fun! Dave is such a great guy and the adventure was epic! My kids were allowed to use the camera, it totally made their day. Dave told us about the bats and let us use his fancy cameras and binoculars. We got to see some neat orb weaver spiders, but oh my gosh the bats! It was so fun! Definitely worth it!
This was an amazing tour with great views of the bats and plenty of opportunities for great photos! Dave provided nice cameras and umbrellas for us to use which enhanced our experience greatly!
Dave is great. Snacks, water available and he pays great music! Clean bus and lots of information about the flying foxes.
Dave took us out on our flying fox tour and we were not disappointed!! He's an amazing guy and brilliant guide. Definitely passionate about what he does and that all comes through. He honestly couldn't do enough for everyone on our tour he was just amazing. I would recommend his tours to anyone! Thanks again Dave we had a brilliant time
I found out bout this trip from (Dave) the host while taking part in tthe Wombat Kangaroo tour https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/AttractionProductReview-g255060-d16807912-Wild_Wombat_and_Kangaroo_Day_Tour_from_Sydney-Sydney_New_South_Wales.html I would highly recommend both trips. Dave was a wealth of knowledge and a great fun host. We were able to see all the animals mentioned and found a few additional which added to the fun.
I have never seen a flying fox so the idea was intriguing! Dave picked us up in central Sydney and drove us to the bat location, filling us in on all the bat information possible plus other interesting facts about Australia and its wildlife. Once we arrived I was astounded at the number of bats and how visible they were. Watching them fly about, argue amongst themselves was amazing. We also saw a bush turkey, spiders and a range of pretty birds. Dave brought a number of good cameras for us to use to get better pictures and then downloaded these to our phones! All very well planned. This was a really enjoyable and fascinating trip!
This tour with “Perfect Day Sydney” was more than we expected. Dave, our tour guide and driver was so organized. He had water, fruit, snack bars, both sweet and savory snacks, hand wipes, bug spray, and charging battery packs, the most complete list of items. Dave is full of facts, he is engaging, considerate and funny. We drove to the location where the bats were. OMGosh!! We had no idea how many flying fox there would be. He was more than happy to help take photos of us with many bats in the background. When we were back in the van to head home, he air dropped some of his photos from the day. This trip is great for any age! Highly recommend!
We had a great time seeing the Flying Fox bats. Dave is a fun and knowledgeable guide. We did the kangaroo and wombat tour two days earlier with Perfect Day Sydney, also recommended.
Dave has such a passion for these amazing bats and it shows with how well his tour is put together. His tour is great to fit in the early part of the day, and you have the remaining day to explore Sydney on your own for the rest of the afternoon. He is super flexible and dropped all of us off close to where we were going the rest of the day. His van is stocked with waters and yummy snacks, and he even has mobile wifi for you!! Not only does he take you to enjoy the bats, he shares his amazing professional looking photos that he took that day with everyone! Dave again goes above and beyond, as he not only does what the tour says, he then makes an extra stop to an amazing photo opportunity of the opera house and the surrounding city. We got some great photos thanks to Dave. Would definitely recommend this tour- and also his AMAZING wombat tour!!!
This is a short, but very interesting tour. Dave is by far one of the most entertaining guides I ever had. Besides the cow jokes, he is also very knowledgeable. He also offers water and a range of sweet and savoury snacks and the van is also equipment with decent WiFi. The tour itself is basically just a visit to a flying fox colony near Sydney, but it's quite amazing to be in the presence of thousands of flying foxes. You can see them hanging and flying around, and making quite the noise. In order for you to take better pictures of all the animals, Dave also provides DSLR cameras. At the end of the tour Dave will help you save those pictures to your mobile phone. I know bats and flying foxes are not as cute and popular as koalas, wombats and roos, but you should definitely give them a chance. You'll be in awe around them. And if you do this tour during 'spider season' you'll also see plenty of yellow orb weaver spiders :-)
We booked onto this tour after thoroughly enjoying the wombat and kangaroo tour Dave also does. Dave was welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful, making sure we got photos of us as well as the flying foxes. The flying foxes were amazing, with thousands of them flying about, stretching, calling, nursing, mating and sleeping. Dave offered toilet breaks and had snacks, drinks, umbrellas, battery packs, cameras, binoculars and WiFi (on the bus) to make sure everyone could be involved and see the adorable flying foxes. Since Dave knew we were interested in all Australian wildlife, he took photos of those of us brave enough with a golden orb weaver spider in front of our faces (i.e. we stood behind the cobweb and spider while the photo was taken!) which was really cool. Dave shared the photos taken on his cameras (some attached to this review). Recommend doing this tour to see a flying fox colony (potentially with pups!) and appreciate their antics for an hour or two.
Had a very interesting tour with Dave. Saw lots, had some tasty snacks and a great dinner and then went and saw some kangaroos and wambats. Even stumbled across an akidna. Overall very good. Also has another tour with Dave to see flying foxes. Very cool.
Dave is a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and takes you to the Fox bats hang out in the wild. Great experience. I highly recommend!
Dave was a grest guide. Punctual at pickup. Entertaining and knowledgeable during the tour. The bats were cool and interesting. We took lots of photos of the bats, birds, bugs and interesting plants. Dave hss a great camera and takes amazing photos to share them with the group. We would highly recommend this tour!
Dave was a fantastic guide. Very personable, funny and very informative. We had the best time seeing these amazing bats! We learned so many facts about them and had plenty of time to watch and take photos of them. Dave is an amazing photographer and he captured many great shots of the day and shared them with the group. We would highly recommend this tour! It’s a must see while in Sydney.
