Our tour of the Blue Mountains with an Aboriginal Experience from Sydney was one of the best we have ever taken during our many travels. Our guide Menashe is extremely knowledgeable about the Sydney area and history and answered all our questions in great detail. We stopped at local businesses for meals which was a great way to experience the local vibe. Incorporating the history and legends in Aboriginal culture from Menashe’s associate Yamandirra made for a fascinating and very instructive tour. He passionately explained how observation allowed the finding and use of all that nature provides. He identified several plant species and demonstrated how they were utilized. Normally, on a tour to a scenic location, we would have taken a lot of pictures trying to capture the beauty. On this tour we took far fewer pictures but came away with a far better appreciation for what we were looking at. We highly recommend this tour for families of all ages.

The tour was unique among tours because both Menashe and Yamamdira were able to share personal experiences to illustrate points about Country. We were able to touch & smell plants while having their properties explained as well as handling aboriginal tools & instruments. The views of the 3 Sisters and the surrounding valleys were breathtaking. We ate at two lovely local places not in the guidebooks. And then it ended with a visit to the charming zoo full of unique Australian creatures many not in cages. Even under the pressure of time constraints & complex personalities of their guests both men maintained their civility and remained intelligent, informative and helpful.
Yamandirra was super knowledgeable about the area, plants, animals, stories and very passionate about sharing with us. Both he and Menashe were wonderful and knowledgeable guides. We learned about the Blue Mountains area from those who called it home for eons before colonizers arrived; something we value as important to share with our kids and learn for ourselves. We got to learn about tools and art as communication, what plants were edible or used for what purposes, animals that were valued by aboriginals, the meanings of the natural paint colors made from the rocks, what Katoomba actually means. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the meanings all combined for an overwhelmingly positive experience. Many moments took my breath away. We brought our two small kids (ages 3.5 and 5.5 years old) and it was well-suited for them as well. I put our 3.5 year old on my back in a carrier for a good portion of the hike just to save her little legs but our 5.5 year old walked the whole thing and both had a blast! Both Yamandirra and Menashe were very kind and understanding of our kids as well.
It was an amazing experience we highly recommend. My husband and I really enjoyed the small group environment. We only had 6 people in a comfortable Mercedes van. We were taken to a beautiful local coffee shop for a snack a d a coffee. We then met with a local Aboriginal who took us on a hike through the blue mountains. He talked about his culture, their beliefs, and folklore related to the land, family, and community. He introduced us to plants and animals along the way, as well as other elements of the land they used in their daily lives. We ended at a beautiful waterfall. Then we went to lunch at a local pie shop, and ended at Featherdale where we fed baby kangaroos a d had pictures take. With a koala.
The planning and the delivery of the tour is first class. The experience of walking this World Heritage Listed site with the aboriginal themed commentary really did open up a whole new insight into the Blue Mountains. So much more than breathtaking scenery. An appreciation of the lifestyle and spiritual connection between this land the indigenous people. The coach is very comfortable. The coffee and lunch stops great. The tour guide informed, friendly and just wanted to ensure that we all enjoyed the day.
Wow - I’m almost beyond words. This was an extraordinary tour, and everything felt elevated all throughout the day. Our tour guide Menashe was a great communicator, and clearly cared about making it a great experience for each of us. This was a small tour experience (van has maximum of 14 seats or so). Menashe was knowledgeable and gave us all kinds of great information as we traveled to the Blue Mountains. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout the day. When we stopped for coffee & scones, we stopped at a local shop and the quality and atmosphere were just superb. Our lunch stop was another locally owned business offering a wide variety of meat pies, which were delicious. These were intentional choices, and they really set the tone for the tour and the day. The highlight of all of this though was our morning segment with our aboriginal guide Yamandirra. Yamandirra was a passionate, joyful and deeply caring guide sharing with us all kinds of knowledge of the aboriginal cultures (yes, cultures as there were more than 360 aboriginal peoples!). Anyone can stop and see the Three Sisters, but we were taught about the Seven Sisters (yes, there are 7 not just 3) and then how the Seven Sisters were a part of the knowledge, culture and history of the aboriginal people of that area for centuries. Anyone can do the walk to see Katoomba Falls, but only with Yamandirra did we learn about many of the plants, how they were used as medicines and in the daily lives of the people. Only from Yamandirra did we learn about how the painting rocks we walked by became dyes that could last thousands of years. And only from Yamandirra did we learn how Katoomba Falls was such a sacred space for the women of the ancestors. Every step of the walk to the falls was a joyous teaching moment in which we had the chance to honor and begin to understand the philosophy, the ethos, and the ingenuities of the aboriginal peoples. I could go on and on with praise and appreciation for Yamandirra. Suffice it to say this tour was absolutely amazing, and I know will be the highlight of our entire visit to Australia. I cannot recommend highly enough!
The guide to the blue mountains was outstanding and then the aboriginal experience was also very much worthwhile.I would highly recommend this excursion.

Had a great time and enjoyed it with friends. The tour was definitely worth it despite the weather. Menashe was a great guide along with our Aboriginal cultural historian.
Giving this tour four stars because while parts of the experience were very good, the Tripadvisor description and itinerary are a bit misleading and didn’t match what we expected. I was traveling with my two parents and booked this tour expecting a Blue Mountains scenic experience combined with Aboriginal cultural elements. Instead, this is a full Aboriginal cultural walking tour inside the Blue Mountains National Park, which is free entry to the public. There are no scenic trams, gondolas, or rides included, despite the tour description making it sound like those iconic Blue Mountains experiences would be part of the day. You get to see the Blue Mountains, Three Sisters and Falls from lookout points inside the national park. We spent several hours with one guide walking through the national park while learning about Aboriginal culture, stories, and the land. While this was informative and meaningful, it was not the “Blue Mountains experience” we believed we were booking based on the listing. Please note very clearly: this is a walking tour only and does not include the scenic railway, skyway, or cable cars. That said, Menashe, our driver, was excellent — friendly, attentive, and professional. All meals were provided, which we appreciated, and we did genuinely learn a lot about Aboriginal culture. The coffee stop in the morning and lunch stop to get some pies was also amazing. Unfortunately, we only realized much later that the scenic rides were not part of the tour, so we tried to make the most of the experience once we understood what the day actually was. We ended the day at the zoo, but it was extremely crowded due to peak holiday season. Because of the long lines, we didn’t have time to meet the koalas, which was disappointing. While we understand this was due to holiday crowds, it did impact the overall experience. My recommendation to future travelers: if you’re unsure what this tour includes, ask Menashe ahead of time for clarification so expectations are aligned. If you’re specifically looking for scenic trams and classic Blue Mountains attractions, this may not be the right fit. If you’re interested in an Aboriginal cultural walking experience, you may enjoy it more than we did. Overall, we had a good day and learned a lot, but we would be more careful with how we book in the future based on descriptions — especially during peak season.
I had an amazing experience with Traveligo. From the very beginning, their team was extremely professional, helpful, and well-organized. Every detail of my trip was perfectly planned, making the entire journey smooth and stress-free. The booking process was easy, the communication was clear, and the staff was always ready to assist with any questions or special requests. The accommodations and travel arrangements were exactly as promised, and everything was delivered on time. What truly impressed me was their commitment to customer satisfaction. They genuinely care about their travelers and go the extra mile to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience.
This truly was the most amazing tour and much more than I imagined. I would be lying if I didn’t say I had high hopes, but Menashe and our aboriginal guide exceeded what I thought was possible. They took great care to adjust the original tour to accommodate for the weather enhancing our experience. As a family of six the pace and locations were perfect. Each stop came with a breath taking takeaway for each kid in their own unique way. Finishing the trip with great pies and better conversation, it was a perfect authentic Australian experience. This tour filled my heart and inspired my whole family. I couldn’t be more grateful and honored to learn so much about the native culture. Thank you so much!
The trip was very informative and the guide quite knowlegdeable. Very pleasant day spent. Stop for food was authentic Aussie
A great experience. Possibly the best and most informative excursion we have been on. Highly recommend!!
This tour exceeded every expectation and became the highlight of our time in Australia! From the moment we were picked up in Sydney, our driver was incredibly informative, offering rich insight into the history, culture, and daily life of both Sydney and its surrounding areas. The journey itself was smooth, scenic, and filled with interesting commentary that set the tone for what was to come. But the real magic began when we arrived in the Blue Mountains. We were welcomed by our Aboriginal guide, whose knowledge, warmth, and passion brought the landscape to life in a way that was deeply moving. Rather than a typical tourist walk, this was a cultural immersion – a rare opportunity to learn firsthand about Aboriginal traditions, relationships with the land, native plants and their uses, bird calls, and ancient stories tied to the region. Walking through the breathtaking natural beauty of the Blue Mountains while learning about its significance through an Indigenous lens was unlike anything we’ve ever done. It gave us a much deeper appreciation for the land and its traditional custodians. This wasn’t just a tour – it was an educational and spiritual journey. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to go beyond sightseeing and truly connect with Australia’s history, people, and natural wonders. A must-do experience!

My husband and I had a wonderful time exploring the rainforest, eating pies, and learning about the local Aboriginal culture. We highly recommend this experience if you are looking for a more meaningful and intimate Blue Mountains experience.
Menashe and Yamandira were an excellent pair to spend the day with. Menashe customized the tour for our family, which enabled my two kids, 3yo and 6yo, to spend the morning at Featherdale Wildlife Sanctuary feeding wallabies and kangaroos while their energy was still up. They had a great time seeing all of the iconic Australian animals before we moved on to meet up with Yamandira at Leura to visit the Three Sisters. Yamandira immediately jumped into teaching us about native plants and lore. He then gave us an option as to how we wanted to experience the Three Sisters; we opted for the harder hike and didn't regret it! Don't choose that option if you have mobility issues but all of us were able to handle it just fine. we saw spectacular views and visited a small waterfall where Yamandira demonstrated different mineral pigments used by aboriginal people. The kids got a kick out of that part! The tour finished up with lunch at a local meat pie shop which was absolutely delicious (Mountain High Pies in Wentworth Falls), fantastic locally owned choice, before we headed back to Sydney. Overall we had a great time and I would highly recommend!
I went with my 8-year-old daughter. Both of us are experienced travelers with reasonable fitness and no dietary restrictions. This was the finale on our first trip to Australia and our only time spent out of Sydney proper. Both of us loved the full day, are very happy we went and would recommend. Our group was 9 tourists, plus tour leader Lloyd, and tour leader Yamandiira joining us for the time in the Blue Mountains proper. My daughter was the only child on board. We went on Good Friday - part of local school break and a 4-day weekend for everyone - so crowds and traffic and other wrenches were significant possibilities. ---------- The Great: - Lloyd arrived exactly on schedule for pickup and kept things moving throughout the day, adjusting things on the fly as needed. - The early start meant when we arrived at the morning destinations, they were not crowded despite the holiday weekend. Significantly more crowds arrived as we departed. As we departed, I could see that had we arrived later, I would not have enjoyed the feeling as much - it would have gone from calm to a bit frustrating as crowds arrived. - The vehicle was comfortable and sized to the group. - The express breakfast/snack (scones and hot beverage) was tasty. Lunch, despite being adjusted last-minute, was also tasty and was filling. In both cases, the kid found something she wanted to eat/drink. As noted, I did supplement her with snacks (which I expect to do since she's a kid). - Yamandira made the rainforest walk significantly more meaningful - pointing out different plants and how they can be/were/are used in daily life, whether for eating or aromatics or brushing hair. He pointed out animals and evidence of animals, showed painting with clay, and even had some bird seed at the end to feed the cockatoos while we waited a few minutes for the rest of our group to rejoin. - We did feed and pet a kangaroo in the afternoon; never thought it would be quite that soft but Maple the kangaroo was very sweet. - The weather was completely in our favor! Not within anyone's control, but definitely added to the enjoyment. The views were amazing. ---------- The Imperfect: - Pickup time was assigned the night before. They adjusted pickups to make it as easy/comfortable as possible (we were not staying at one of the pre-defined hotels but they picked us up from our doorstep anyway). However, I was not completely sure the ballpark start time (it ended up being around 6:30am) until I was in the hotel room for the night - which meant I had some snacks for the kid for the day but she didn't have a real breakfast (hotel breakfast started at 7am that day because of the holiday, but the kitchen let me grab a couple fresh pastries as we walked out - it was fine but not particularly nutritious/good for a long day). Knowing the ballpark start time earlier, I would have stocked up on a couple additional snacks. - I am unsure why we visited Sydney Zoo instead of the Wildlife Park; for all I know it's because it's way better; the fact of that lingering question is a slight drawback. I haven't been to the Wildlife Park, so I'm not sure how they compare and contrast. We did have an experience (kangaroo feeding), and the Zoo was nice. I believe they switch between the two locations, but not sure why or when. - Our initial lunch stop was a restaurant that is open every day, including Easter and Christmas ... but not Good Friday. Lloyd handled it well, finding an alternative place that was tasty - but we were hungry and this added a bit of time (extending our return, not cutting anything short). This shouldn't be a problem for at least a year! - The drive to the Blue Mountains from Sydney takes about 1.5-2 hours. Not within anyone's control, but it does eat into part of the day when considering day trips.
I can recommend the tour without reservation. The communication and pick-up went smoothly. We drove to Featherdale Wildlife Park first thing in the morning where we were among the first guests to have the chance to take photos with the koalas. There were lots of informative stories on the drive. In Katoomba we picked up our Aboriginal guide Yamandirra and drove to the Blue Mountains National Park. There we first got an overview of the different tribes and Aboriginal areas as well as an introduction to the traditions of the Aborigines. After a cleansing ritual, we walked through the park and learned all about the animals and plants, spirits, stories and legends. The respect and passion that Yamandirra conveyed left a lasting impression and will stay with me forever.
If you’re looking for a tour of the Blue Mountains, choose this one! Tour operator Menashe and aboriginal guide Yamandirra (sp?) gave us a wonderful experience in the Blue Mountains. Yamandirra was a highly engaging and knowledgeable teacher generously sharing a passion for his culture. There’s another tour option where you can view the canyon by gondola rather than participating in the aboriginal experience, but unless you have mobility issues that prevent you from doing some walking on stairs and inclines, I recommend choosing this special opportunity.
We got an insight on the history of the indigenous people of Australia. There respect and understanding of the land and how use the resources to live in harmony with the land.
The guide was great and the transportation was excellent. Wear comfy shoes and clothes. The whole trip was great. The walk down to the waterfall may not be accessible for some people. They provide an alternative to a scenic bus ride. If you are healthy the waterfall is beautiful
This is a great tour, and I highly recommend it. We started at Featherdale Wildlife Park. We had such a good time feeding the little kangaroos and taking our time walking through the park looking at the array of exotic animals and birds. The Aboriginal Experience was so much fun and of course informative. Jeff was our driver, and he was delightful. He was informative and made sure everyone was having a good time. He asked for feedback on where he took us for lunch, which was a pie place. I really liked it. There were so many choices for savory pies and/or sweet pies. The food was good. The Blue Mountains are beautiful. When we returned to the city Jeff wanted to drop everyone off near or at their hotel. He did not know that there is a load and unload zone in front of the Crowne Plaza and when he pulled up to let us off, he did not see that it exists because there was a sign that said no stopping. It also said load and unload. Anyway, all in all a wonderful experience and I would gladly do it again.
I chose this experience to learn more about the Aboriginal culture. It surpassed my expectations! Both guides were full of information. The welcoming ritual by our Aboriginal guide was a meaningful beginning to our walk with him through the rain forest. Our group was small and our driver guide was so helpful and knowledgeable. By starting early in the morning so we missed the crowds. This was a highlight of our trip.
Absolutely spectacular day! The driver was The Best—friendly and informative! Food and restaurant choices were Great! And the Aboriginal was superb and very special. We didn’t want to say goobye
Whole trip was an experience from brining to end. Lots of interesting local information from host and the. The aboriginal experience took it to new level. It was absorbing and interesting. Very interactive with information and vegetation and aboriginal history, culture, belief, and history. Highly recommend
Excellent personal service & lovely knowledgeable guides. Despite the bad weather the tour was adjusted and we got extra alternative routes. Very informative and relaxed. Thoroughly enjoyed.
The best part of our first visit to Australia. The tour would normally be canceled if less than 6 people. But Maneshe proceeded with just 3 on board. Maneshe has a deep well of knowledge from which to draw and is happy to share history (local, global and personal) as well as geographical, flora, and fauna. Yarmadeeri's folklore, storytelling and passion for the original people and blue mountains was evident at every turn. The blue mountains, 3 (7) sisters, and katoomba falls-- all stunning. (Personal note: I have a condition that results in severe muscle pain, fatigue and other issues...so this approx 2 mile hike/day trip meant 2-3days being essentially bedbound afterwards... and I would totally do it again... ) Deep warmth and appreciation to Maneshe & Yarmadeeri
We were blown away by this experience! Menashe with Zanza Tours Australia put together a perfect day in the Blue Mountains. The food, sights, animals and spiritual experience with the Aboriginal guide through the rainforest are lifetime memories. Leave the busy city and enjoy the beauty of the land. Cancel any other tours you may have and book with Zanza. THIS is the Sydney tour you want.
Great guide. Beautiful vistas. Great service from Zana Tours. Highlights include Scenic World, waterfalls, Cable car ride and lunch.
Small group, tailored tour to what we wanted. Everything excellent. Ate at quaint pie restaurant. Abinoriginal experience was educational with very good presenter.
The whole excursion was fantastic!! Menaske went above and beyond to make our adventure awesome! We saw so much more than other folks would have - Yamandirra provided so much aboriginal cultural information!! From the food to the Olympic park drive thru to the Blue Mountains and the 3 sisters (and the true story) to the featherstone wildlife we had an amazing day!
Amazing tour, no hurry, but we enjoyed everything plus a stop that wasn’t on the schedule (Olympic Park) and took photos. The tea and scones were excellent. The pie for lunch were delicious. And most importantly our guides were both fantastic. It’s obvious that Manashe has embraced the culture of Australia and he has a wealth of knowledge. He kept the drive interesting and the time flew by. Yamandirra is so wonderful, explaining the real Australian Aboriginal lives. We were so grateful for his hospitality and cultural sharing. Our walk was so informative and we enjoyed learning about medical plants along the way❤️💕💕❤️
Our driver Manashe was very informative, the ride to the mountains went by quickly, including a stop at the Olympic Park. The walk wit Yamandirra was a highlight, he’s very passionate about his people and we had a wonderful day. The food was excellent, the animal park was nice , all in all a superb day!
This was a day to top all days from the moment we arrived we had a truly personalized experience. Can’t recommend this enough. Aboriginal experience amazing
Had an amazing experience at the Blue Mountains Aboriginal tour experience! Menashe was very accommodative of our dietary needs, going out of his way to assist with them. He was also a fountain of knowledge with regards to Australian culture and history. Booking with him was a seamless experience as well and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip from start to finish. The aboriginal experience with Yamandirra was spectacular as well as we learnt a lot about the different plants, Aboriginal customs and traditions. Would definitely recommend this trip for those looking for an immersive cultural and natural experience
I feel blessed having this time with the Arborigen guide Yamandirra. I learned all about love and wisdom of this beautiful Country. Will be forever connected to the spirit of the water spring of Blue Mountain. With love VAYA
I was glad I booked the tour with the Aboriginal Experience instead of one of the usual ones that use the cable car one. While you have to be somewhat fit to participate in this one (lots of stairs up and down) it gives a lot more insight. Our amazing Aboriginal guide gave great information on his culture, the relationship with nature and other things. He showed us some edible plants and educated us on their usage in healing. We saw waterfalls, amazing rock formations and animals you would not see when using the cable car excursion. After the Blue Mountains and lunch, which was included in the price, we went to a nature center where we could see kangaroos, koalas, penguins and other native animals up close and even pet some. Our driver/guide also gave great information and made sure we were all well taken care of.
There are dozens of companies who will drive you to the visitor center and walk the path with you - this experience is not that. Yamandirra took us through not just the landscape, but also the biology, the history, and the rich cultural chronicle of this area. We did more than learn the names of the plants and animals. We got an understanding of the people who lived here for (at least) 50,000 years before everything we consider "history" happened. We got a glimpse into how those people lived with those plants and animals, how they worked the very geology into their lore and then used that lore to guide the daily lives, including the ones still living there today. It's not possible to put into a few sentences of an internet review how deeply thoughtful, educational, and inspiring this experience was. You didn't just leave thinking about the land, and its people. You left thinking about your own ways and your own priorities. Menashe, thank you for your hospitality, warmth, humor, and care for our group. But thank you especially for introducing us to Yamandirra.
Such a great experience. I learned so much, saw so many beautiful sights and gained a new respect and understanding of the culture and nature. Thank you to both Yamandirrra and Menashe for an unforgettable day.
Myself and my daughter experienced this amazing day together. First time for both of us seeing the blue mountains. First of all I would like to compliment Maneshe our driver and tour guide for his knowledge and history of Sydney, the aborigine people and the blue mountains, he made the whole experience both informative and fun. The food stops were really good, fresh scones and coffee in a gorgeous homely cafe and proper pies and sides for lunch. Thank you Maneshe. Yamandirrra our Aboriginal guide for the Aboriginal experience was quite simply phenomenal: Interesting, honest, insightful, fun, unique. His knowledge about the land and vegetation was so interesting and he was so generous to share this with us. It certainly made me think about the land and the world around us and how if we worked together and respected this world much more what a better place it would be. Thank you Yamandirrra for opening our eyes about your culture in just a small way today, I'm sure we could have learned so much more from you if we had more time but what we have learned we will never forget. The animal park on the way back was lovely and I had my first experience of seeing koalas, kangaroos, wallaby's and ostriches. Such beautiful creatures all of them. I would recommend this tour to anyone of any age and if you want an authentic Aboriginal experience this is definitely the tour for you.
Our guide went above and beyond! I injured my hip and he picked us up - out of the way, He modified our tour so I could participate. Plus he was a great guide. Menashe was knowledgeable and helpful. The Featherdale park was great, too! Thank you!
One of the best tours I have been on. Very informative about Aboriginal people and the history of the Blue Mountains. Driver and native guide were both excellent, responsive to all questions. ON morning drive, we stopped at Dolly's Donuts for an excellent snack. Would highly recommend this tour to all people visiting Sydney
Excellent guides highly recommend the aborigini experience very educational and moving. Well worth the early morning pickup stop at DOLLY'S donuts for snack
We enjoyed learning about the culture and history of the area from Manosh, the van driver and owner of the company. We had a small group of five in a very comfortable van. Being with an indigenous gentleman on a walk through the rain forest was amazing. The culture intriging.
A trip never to be missed, Menache creates a from-the-heart tour experience. He creates a sense of wonder and deep respect and sensitivity for the indigenous people and their culture with his "brother-from-another-mother." It builds curiosity and a yearning to learn more. My husband and I are so happy to make this trip. Yum food plans too!
My wife and 2 daughters had an amazing experience. Our tour guide was very informative, professional, and just a great guy. We did not want to do the typical "ride the ride's at the park" tour most people do when they go to Blue Mountains. We wanted to learn the history of aboriginals in Australia and boy, did we ever. Our aboriginal guide was amazing! After spending about 15 minutes with him, he felt like family and gave us a history of the aboriginal people that was amazing. He showed us so many things about nature, culture, and the story of Australia. It was truly a once in a lifetime tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic aboriginal and Australia experience.
The Aboriginal experience with Yamandirra was absolutely incredible. He was informative, friendly, and provided us with a lot of stories about the indigenous people of the Blue mountains as well as the rest of Australia. I learned so much about the 7 Sisters and species of plants and animals native to the area. I didn’t want the tour to end! Our driver and tour guide, Menashe, was also top notch. He made us comfortable, answered our questions, and personalized the tour. It was fantastic! I highly recommend this tour of the Blue Mountains
Menashe was wonderful, kind, and informative. He knows his stuff! We missed our pickup and he made sure that we were able to connect up with him so that we could go on the tour. I can’t tell you how much we appreciated him for doing that!!! Yamandeera (not sure I spelled that correctly) was an amazing aboriginal guide. His passion for his people, culture, and way of life is contagious. We learned so much from him (7 sisters not 3)!!
