I booked Wildlife Retreat at Taronga as a surprise present for my husband because he loves going to the zoo and deserved a getaway, I also took our son which meant we had to pay extra to add a third person. The Wildlife Retreat rate included buffet breakfast, unlimited access to the zoo through a special entrance, a sanctuary walk tour, and parking. The great thing about the parking was that you could leave and park the car several times during your stay, if you get your parking ticket validated at reception. The Wildlife Retreat had several different rooms available; I opted to book the Bushland Room because it was the cheapest. The Bushland Room was located on the ground floor of the premises. The room was a bit small; however, the room did have a roomy bathroom. The bathroom had the usual amenities, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, all in big bottles and then smaller amenities such as a comb, toothbrush and toothpaste, a sachet of micellar water, shower cap, vanity pouch. The room also came with tea and coffee, a kettle, robes, there were no slippers available, which I was I knew because I would have brought my own. In our room was a comfortable king-sized bed and the rollaway bed that we requested. The room had a nice view of the Kangaroos; they were in their enclosure outside the room. The other rooms had views of Sydney Harbour, and some rooms had views of the Koalas. The room configuration has the high numbered rooms on the lower levels and the lower numbered rooms on the 1st floors. Access to the lower ground floor levels was available from walking to the lift or using the stairs. The buffet breakfast at their restaurant called Me Gal had the usual items that you would find at a buffet breakfast, which included a variety of breads, spreads, hot food, fruit, pastries etc. The buffet breakfast was nice, but nothing too special, luckily it came part of the package. We had dinner at their restaurant called Me Gal, and the menu had a few good options, however the prices were a bit expensive. There was a kid’s menu, which my son enjoyed. We ordered the slow cooked lam shoulder, which was amazing, however at $120 was on the pricier side. The reception area of the Wildlife Retreat was lovely, there were plenty of areas to sit, both inside and outside on the balcony and there is a QR code on the tables in case you wanted to order any food or drinks. There is also a bar, where you can order drinks and food. The reception staff kindly gave us drink vouchers for my Husband’s birthday. There is a stunning view of Sydney Harbour from the reception’s balcony area. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and it was a nice thing to do at least once. The staff were wonderful and it was a great experience.

The lovely staff member who checked us in was so friendly and welcoming. The hotel prepared two adorable koala toys and handwritten birthday cards for our twins — such a thoughtful touch! 💕 We also enjoyed dinner at Me-Gal, where the staff were warm and friendly. The kids had a great time! Thank you for making their birthday so special!
I honestly think that if I won the lottery, I'd spend the rest of my days here! The room was fantastic and I could have happily sat by the window all day watching the kangaroos hopping past all day. You can even leave your windows slightly ajar at night and wake up to the sounds of all the animals coming to life in the morning it makes the experience even more special. The food in the restaurant was brilliant and all the staff, zoo keepers and volunteers were just as wonderful. There was a wide variety of animals, all of which looked healthy, happy and exceptionally well cared for. We already miss Picnic the wallaby and Echo the superb lyrebird mimicking the hotel’s evacuation message is something you have to hear to believe! I couldn't recommend this place more highly. (Plus… If you book a night in the zoo’s hotel you get two days passes to the zoo. Which made it great value for money and a no brainier.)
We stayed one night at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga, and overall it was a really lovely experience. The staff were welcoming, helpful and genuinely friendly, which made our stay feel relaxed from the moment we arrived. The room itself was comfortable, though it could use a bit more attention when it comes to cleaning. It wasn’t enough to spoil the stay, but it was noticeable. Aside from that, everything else was very pleasant. The atmosphere, the unique setting, and the service all made it a memorable night away. We would happily stay again and recommend it to others looking for a special getaway.
Waking up to a koala outside the window was a genuinely unique experience, but unfortunately the accommodation didn’t live up to the price. The floor was sticky when we arrived (quickly resolved with a call to the front desk) and the condition of the room felt much older than expected for a property only 6 years old. While we still enjoyed the zoo overall and loved the easy access, I’d be reluctant to recommend staying here unless the rooms receive better maintenance and cleaning.
