Disgusting experience. No hot water and no tv reception. Multiple calls to central office but the after hours person refused to contact Camperdown directly. Reception staff arrived Sunday morning unaware guests had been trying to lodge complaints since 9pm last night. No explanation. Worst experience win a hotel ever.
First impressions on arrival, 2/5, the building to the left, abandoned, vomit, smelly and rubbish on footpath. Fitness gym to the right ✅️ excellent and clean. Entrance to Veriu, clean tidy and smelled lovely. Staff
We would not recommend Veriu Camperdown to our enemies or our friends. There are lots of nice bits of Camperdown. This "hotel" is located on a busy road in between run down shops, piles of rubbish, empty buildings. It does not feel safe or clean, but there are lots of bus services right outside the door. Reception is only open 8am to 8pm. When arriving late, as we did, you get an email with a key code that worked fine. When we checked in our room was dusty and hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. More problematic was the lack of towels, meaning that I had to air dry before my meeting the next morning, as emails to the "out of hours" contact were not actioned and the numbers for their emergency contact did not work either from the phone in the room nor our non-Australian mobiles. The room is very large and very white - every surface is painted white and the lack of functional furniture (there is not even a single chair) makes it feel quite empty. The appliances all worked well and the washer and dryer were beneficial. The room was supposed to be topped up with amenities every two days but it was not - we had to remind them that a cleaning was due after 4 days. Most problematically, on our third night one of the other rooms decided to host a giant party after hours. As we were lucky enough to be directly below them we had booming bass music, dancing on our ceiling, moving furniture for the night. Again, the closed reception and inability to call meant that our complaints were unanswered until security happened to stroll by very late. We received an email apology - with no compensation or real recognition of any inconvenience, more of a justification for their hours - at 5pm the next day. What a terrible experience for such an expensive place to stay.
Mixed feelings about this place. We stayed here for a week to attend a conference at the University of Sydney and it was a good location for that, about 10 min walk to the venue. It was also nice to have a separate living room and bedroom. Lots of storage space in the bedroom, a good washer and separate dryer, kitchen with dishwasher, cooktop, microwave, and full fridge. The living room had two sofas, a coffee table and a table with two benches. There was also a sort of outdoor patio with shutters and another table with two benches. The area felt a bit uninspiring but there are some nice restaurants 5 to 10 min walks away. There is also a busstop closeby to go to the CBD. Unfortunately, our bedroom was facing busy Paramatta Road. The noise was not bad if you kept the windows closed, but it got pretty hot in the bedroom - it was not even summer yet. The living room had airconditioning but it did not really reach our bedroom. We are an older couple and found it hard to sit on the bare wooden benches to do computer work. There was not a single chair in the apartment. We asked the reception for an office chair and they were very helpful, so they brought us one. WiFi was also disappointing, it threw us out regularly and you had to go through some “forget this network” and sign up again multiple times a day. I had to do some podcast and other interviews and this was not what we had hoped. The living room also sounded like you were in a concrete bunker. We removed the “do not clean” hanger on the day in the middle of the week but there was no cleaning done, only a toilet roll was replaced. The shower leaked (we used our bathmat as a dam and had to ask for an extra one). The toilet roll holder was loose so the roll kept on falling off. The lower shelves in the kitchen cabinets were clean, but the top ones were very dirty. The kitchen only had three items of each (mugs, plates, glasses) and a full size dishwasher, so we had to run the machine every day with a tiny load. That felt bad for the environment. The outdoor patio was not a very nice place to sit; the table was extremely dusty, it did not have a view, and it was very noisy because of Paramatta road. We did have a good deal for our booking, but I would rather pay a bit more for decent WiFi, a couple more glasses and plates, a non-leaking shower, and a less noisy location.
