We stayed here for 2 nights on the 15th Aug to the 17th Aug. What a disappointment. I booked through booking.com. The photos thru them were so docked up that if I knew it was going to be a disgrace like this I definitely would not have booked. When we arrived the reception staff weren't too bad. Their service was nothing to rate them on. We walked into our room & what a disappointment that was. The room was so dirty, very cramped & the bathroom was no better. Apparently, from what the replies are from the hotel manager that they are doing renovations & will be completed by October, I really find that hard to believe. The whole place needs to be shut down if they want to do renovations. I can't believe that Sydney has hotels to this condition. On the Sunday morning at 8.50am my husband went down to the restaurant to get some breakfast. The breakfast does not finish until 9am, which I think is far too early. He wanted some toast. There were no knives to butter his toast. There was also no one there for him to ask. My husband went into the kitchen & there were 2 men in there. He asked for a knife & was told he can't have one as the buffet is finished. My husband was not impressed with that reply. What he saw in the kitchen was an absolute disgrace. Crap everywhere on the floor, benches & how filthy it was in there. He went & saw the guy at reception who was very helpful. My husband told him that he would like to speak with the hotel manager to sort the situation. The gentleman said that he emailed him & that we will get a phone call from him. It is now Tuesday & we have had no phone call from the hotel manager, which I think is appalling. We are contemplating taking this to the NSW health dept. I definitely don't recommend staying here & would definitely not eat here. The only positive about this place is the close proximity to the international terminal. Since posting the above review we have been contacted by the Hotel manager who was shocked to hear of our experience and went above abs beyond to resolve the situation to our satisfaction. We hope to be able to give this hotel a second chance when we revisit Sydney.

We just stayed one night. The room size was big and there were a king size bed and 2 single beds. It was really comfortable and nice. However, I went to the breakfast as it was included, and the cafe was a little messy and coffee and cutlery were run out. But they were fixed after I asked the man working there. It was close to the airport, we needed to pay parking though, there was enough space so it was good.
Airport shuttle is a long distance walk but the shuttle is only $13.00 compared to a $60.00 taxi. Uber is definitely the best option. About the hotel Silkarl Urban, it is definitely 💯percent urban in the dark creepy location. Watch out for the hidden fees because you can not check in until you pay 💰 $300.00 cash deposit or let them charge your card and hold 100.00 hostage until you check out and then the tracer holds up to 3 to 14 days later to clear your account. Check in at your own risk ⚠️ at the hotel reception desk if you can make it up the hazardous ☢️ curb with broken metal. Okay you might have managed to get to the reception desk without being harassed but I guarantee you will not enjoy reception check-in. If you make it through the unfriendly atmosphere and get a room, you are in for a rude awakening upon entering your room. There you will find a plain white wasteland that needs deep cleaning. Walls need paint, bathroom needs attention but it is small enough that they don’t care or cannot afford to pay maintenance costs. That probably is why this old rundown outdated hotel is trying so hard to charge the deposit so they can charge people extra money at checkout. Stay at your own risk ⚠️.
Good location, friendly service, but the facilities leave a lot to be desired. The lift is like an horror movie. Bathroom is super small and not particularly clean. Bed was comfortable but that’s about it. Continental breakfast was included, however fruit was old and the overall presentation leave a lot to be desired. Staff member make a real difference. They were polite, friendly and accomodating. Good for the emergency but I wouldn’t go back. No value for money unless your standards are very low.
Its a weak 4 stars. Only given due to its location and staff helpfulness. The service is brilliant. Had an issue with our booking but the staff quickly resolved it for us. Great location with walking distance to the international airport. If travelling with kids a park in walking distance is a great help. Plenty of food places nearby too. The place feels old. I think its due to the hallways and rooms being so dark and dated. Rooms were clean but dont expect a decent sleep. The bed in my room was horrible, the mattress had no life left in it and you sank into it like it was made of marshmallow which made for a terrible sleeping position and the pillow was harder than a rock. The two combined resulted in terrible sleep and soreness in the morning. The free continental breakfast is a nice touch for a quick bite before an early flight.
