I was in Sydney for a work weekend at the ICC. IBIS is a simple stay for anyone who's looking for location and a comfy bed in the heart of Darling Harbour. The staff are all very friendly. I'd like to give a special thank you to Peter and Dimi from Front office who looked after me in my stay. The rooms are basic Ibis layout Bed, Fridge desk chair and Bathroom with Red feature wall. However, if you're travelling through Sydney Harbour this is all about Location and convenience to everything. walk right outside your door to the city Tram, nightspots, restaurants and on weekend view of the harbourside fireworks. This is a hotel for the traveller who Loves to get out but needs a bed close by or the workers wanting ease. Breakfast buffet and dinner is all offered here but there are no extras such as pool or gym. If you're a Accor Explorer member your discounts will apply on dining and drinks, and the added bonus is there are 3 other ACCOR properties within a short walk that you can "explore" for your stay too. I love to enjoy this. Happy hour runs each day at the bar and gets busy. The meals I had were tasty and convenient. This is a city side hotel to wake up and say a bright hello to Sydney,
Good location & the room was clean. Other than that its not great. You have to pay extra for parking which is horrible since you've already payed for the hotel. So what is meant to be $180 for a night ends up turning into $250 for the night for parking. They can't even give you a discount as a guest. The check in at the entrance takes way too long. Not to fault the people at the counter, they were great. But you need more than 1-2 people during peak sign in hours. It took us atleasr half an hour to wait in line & finally get served / up to the room. Also nowhere does it specify if you'll get a good view of the water or the other side of the building which lacks any kind of view. Yet I assume all the prices are the same, which is very unfair. Also no free breakfast.... for a hotel that costs you $250 total? Very unfair and money hungry place. The only good thing is the location and the bed was comfortable.
We arrived by light rail. There was minimal signage & took some time to work out how to navigate through the basement carpark, up to level 4, walk a ramp up another level, cut through the adjoining hotel carpark & finally find the Ibis. On check in I had to provide my visa card for a security deposit - I don't recall having to do this when I've checked in at another Ibis I stay in. It wasn't until I checked the website when we arrived there was a warning about noise & construction nearby. I did not see this when I made the booking. The construction is not meant to start until 7am however we were woken at 0630 (not the hotel fault but something to consider) The building is old. Worn out carpet, scrapes & scratches to fittings & furniture. The elevator badly vibrates going up & down levels. A small garbage bin in the bathroom but none in the main room. There was an annoying sound coming from the a/c whether it was turned on or off. The staff were quick to report the a/c to maintenance & changed us to another room. Really appreciated this service. Both rooms had a harbour view - from memory we had a city view room booked so treating this bonus as a free mini upgrade. Overall for location, ease of access & nicer appearance I prefer Ibis Styles Wentworth Avenue. However, the cheaper room rate, outside views & excellent service is better at Ibis Darling Harbour.
This was our third visit to Ibis, and once again, everything was fantastic! The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with all the basic necessities. Cleanliness throughout the hotel was excellent. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, offering a great variety to start the day. The location is very convenient, making it easy to get around. What truly makes this place special is the friendly and welcoming staff—they make you feel right at home every time. We always feel comfortable and well taken care of here. Looking forward to our next stay!
