Itinerary
Travel along the small-holdings on the northern bank of the Swakop River into the oldest desert of the world, the Namib Desert. Your guide will explain the origin of the Namib Desert and explain the geological and climatic conditions of this coastal desert. As we proceed further we leave every trace of civilisation behind and find ourselves surrounded by the rugged and rocky scene of the Namib Desert. Experience the "Ringing Stones" and the fascinating plants of the Namib, for example the indigenous Lithops, also known as the "Living Stones", as well as a variety of rare Lichens, and most of all, the remarkable Welwitschia plant, a living fossil which is only found in this geographical area. With a bit of luck, one can see Springbok, Klipspringer, Steenbok, Baboon, Ostriches, Ruppels Korhaan and the Trac-trac Chat.
After a pleasant lunch break, we drive along the dry riverbed of the Swakop valley which is lined with Tamarisk, Prosopis and Ana trees. We pass Oasis "Goanikontes", enter the Namib Naukluft Park and view the "Moon Valley" from a vantage point. We close off this tour with a visit to the shifting sand dunes near Swakopmund.

Hans-Dieter gave us a highly personalised tour experience. It was just the three of us family members and we felt we’d got good value. He is very experienced and knowledgeable about the desert environment.
Highly recommend, especially if you'd like to see the moon landscape/moon valley, as well as learn more about rare and interesting plants in Namibia! Hans was a very cheery and knowledgeable guide, and the tour passed by very quickly.
This morning tour of the Moon Valley, Goanikontis, and canyons along the Swakopmund River was so interesting that the time just flew. The bonus at the end was the welwitschas which have always been on my bucket list. Hans Dieter, our guide, has a wealth of information to share and is also a local Swakopmunder having lived there for all of his 91 years. A truly wonderful enlightening morning. Thank you
We had a good experience with Hans. He is a legend and know much about Namibia, the Swakopriver desert, plants, animals and Namibian economy.
Used this tour company to go to namib desert and we drove through the dried swakop river as well as through the desert to see moonscape view point and then found the welwitschia plants, very informative and worth the visit. Recommend if you decide to go to Swakopmund.
The tour was really great! German-speaking Hans-Dieter is the perfect guide for this tour since he is from Swakopmund and has been living in Namibia for all of his life. He told us a lot about Namibia, the culture, politics, landscape, animals, so we got a deep understanding. He drove us to the amazing moon landscape as well as to the Welwitschia plants. We can totally recommend the tour!
We had an amazing tour and created unforgettable memories. Our experienced guide, Hans, was a fantastic host. We enjoyed a private tour with him and experienced the Namibian desert to the fullest. The highlight was the lovingly prepared picnic lunch under a large rock.
Very pleasant overall experience. The guide has shared interesting facts on history and desert environment. Well- balanced journey, truly enjoyed it!
Great and very informative guide. Hans Dieter is a very kind person. The picnic lunch was also delicious. Highly and warmly recommended!
Hans-Dieter is an excellent tour guide who described the tour in detail and was very knowledgeable in explaining the plants, animal life and terrain. His knowledge made the experience even more enjoyable. A highlight was having lunch in the shade of the overhang of an enormous bolder—a big thank you to Hans-Dieter's wife for the delicious lunch provided. We unreservedly recommend this tour and Hans-Dieter to future visitors to Namibia, particularly to Swakopmund.
Ernst was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about the desert and his work. He found snskes, lizards, birds and retrieved debris blowing around the desert. A fantastic afternoon with him. We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Thank you very much
Een halve dag toer naar het maanlandschap. Half day tout moonlandscape. With the guide Hans very intersting and worthfull experience.
We booked a half-day trip to the moonscape and Welwitschia with Hans, originally wanted to drive ourselves and have wg. No permission on Sundays closed office. That was our great luck because otherwise we would have missed Hans. At 91 years old (!), he is an almost inexhaustible source of knowledge about Namibia's history during the last decades, but has not only read it, but experienced it himself. Against this background, the tour was a real experience for us, first with the so-called lunar landscape, then the Guanikontis Oasis and last but not least the drive through the Swakop River (which we would not have been able to do as a self-drive without 4x4). For the finale the Welwitschia, no beauty, fortunately not Instagramm-able, but for Namibia visitors just a must-see. We can warmly recommend Hans-Dieter Göthje to anyone interested in deeper knowledge about botany and Namibia, who, incidentally, with his age could also be a role model for all those who want to spend the evening of their lives not only in the chair.
Hans Dieter could talk about history, fauna and flora in a very lively and detailed way. We enjoyed it very much.
We were positively surprised with the 4h visit, as we learned a lot about the local flora and even a bit about the fauna. Children and adults loved the experience! We would definitely recommend this tour to other people.
