This company was really helpful with arrangements and the salt flats are absolutely amazing and in my opinion an absolute ’must see’ The company was helpful with pick ups, drop offs, luggage storage etc. the guides were pleasant, helpful and made sure we were comfortable and well fed. On the negative side the arrangements for the tour changed significantly at short notice with no good explanation. Our 2 day tour with 1 night spent out on the salt flats in a hostel turned into 2 separate day tours which meant we couldn’t reach some of the more distant sights. The original tour included a night trip to see the stars. This was removed until I complained and was then reinstated.

Day 1
1
From the Andes Salt Expeditions office, the tour begins at 10:30 am. In a Toyota Land Cruiser 4 × 4 WD. We are going to visit the locomotives Cemetery, where you can see the remains of nineteenth and early 20th century steam locomotives and which is a good place to take artistic photographs
Then we go to the company's base of operations to use the hygienic bathroom that has 3 bathrooms and showers for both ladies and gentlemen and at the same time we try on our boots for the salt water to visit the mirror effect and also pick up lunch for the group. Arrival at COLCHANI, located on the edge of the Salar de Uyuni and headquarters of the Rosario Cooperative, main iodization plants numbering 15 rustic salt factories. Here ovens are used to dry the salt, the crushing of salt, the mixing of iodine with salt, the packaging of salt in bags for national and medicinal consumption can be observed.
Arrival at the great Salar de Uyuni with an area of 12 square kilometers, in this place we will visit the eyes of salt (large holes in the salt flat where salt water comes out by high pressure), we will visit the former Playa Blanca salt hotel made of salt, we will visit the flags of the world, view of the Dakar monument, the eyes of salt, perspective photo session and funny videos with our professional expert driver guide. Lunch in the same place, 15 minute walk on the salt flat, visit the salt sculptures such as the hand of God, the salt pyramid, later visit the salt water to observe the mirror effect, then we will cross the salt flat of more than 100km, before leaving the salt flat we will observe the sunset, at the same time we will have a time of snack with red wine and cookies and pringles overnight at the salt hostel dinner and rest
After dinner we will go to the Salar de Uyuni, a magnificent option to see the stars of the Milky Way The Salar de Uyuni is a center for stargazing. The absence of light pollution, clean and pure air, immense night skies, surroundings of incredible visual beauty that take your breath away, as well as a wide horizon make this place one of the best destinations for stargazing in the world. Our stargazing tours in the Salar de Uyuni are carried out throughout the year but avoiding operating in case of bad weather conditions and on full moon nights since its brightness affects the visibility of the stars. Consult the lunar calendar and the stargazing tour plan with all the necessary preparations to plan your stargazing tour.
Day 2
2
Very early at 5:00 am, we will see the sunrise from the salt flat, return to the hotel for breakfast, then we will leave for the cave of the galaxies, it is a sub-aqueous cavern currently dry and formed in the stage prior to freezing, corresponding to volcanic eruptions on the waters of Lake Minchin (today Salar). It has a very different conformation to terrestrial caves, because instead of the usual stalactites and stalagmites, calcareous bodies project from the ceiling with capricious forms of solidification of the magma when in contact with water.
then we will enter the Uyuni salt flat to visit the Incawasi Island or Island of the Giant Cactus.Incawasi Island is located in the center of the salt flat 120 km from Uyuni. This is the main destination for most salt desert tours. It is an extraordinary, otherworldly place, covered with giant, medium and small cacti, a flat white sea of hexagonal salt tiles, populated by stranded vizcachas (Andean rodents) that inhabit its rocky slopes that also offer 360-degree views around. Fish Island or Incawasi is an oasis with a unique and isolated ecosystem that is populated by cacti up to 7 to 10 meters high. Photographers will find Cactus Island to be one of the best sites in the world to satisfy their passion.
After visiting the island, we will cross about 40 km towards the Tunupa Volcano, at the foot of the volcano on the edge of the salt flat we will visit small groups herds of llamas, later we will go up with the vehicle to the parking platform for vehicles at a height of 4200 m, from here we will walk to the cave of the mummies of this volcano, optional 2 hour walk to the 1st viewpoint, from the viewpoint you will have a panoramic view of the Uyuni salt flat and the crater of this volcano, then return to Uyuni and end of the tour about 1 hour 17:00 pm to 18:00 pm

The tour of the salt flats was excellent. Iber was a great guide, friendly, informative and good humoured. We thoroughly enjoyed our two day tour.
Amazing guides with amazing service! The hotel was really nice as well. Food included everywhere. The guide was easily the best part of this experience!
The experience was wonderful! We felt like we were in paradise. Everything was well organized. We saw a lot in a short amount of time, and they were very flexible. Rachel is the best guide—very kind and a professional videographer and photographer.
First day we only covered the lagoon but the second day was amazing. Surreal photos of the salt flats during the stargazing session and the sunrise. Wine during sunset was the icing on the cake.
Had a brilliant time with drivers/guides Gualberto and Benito and the other 11 guests (2 cars). One of the highlights, if not the highlight, of my 3 weeks in Peru and Bolivia. I did the two day tour and the hotel for the night was great. Warm room and hot water!
Everything was spot on. I enjoyed a lot.
The tour was amazing,I loved it!The first guide Ualberto was amazing and super friendly!Second guide, Jose took us around the slat flats and some other destinations such as slat hotel ,he took amazing pictures , was very friendly and knowledgeable.Honestly he was one of the best tour guides I ever had!
Ever was a super guide. Professional, competent and reassuring. The nature is impressive and we could only want for more stops (perhaps in place of salt processing and train cemetery). Perhaps we could visit a salt extraction operation too? The low points were the night stays and meals (specially breakfasts). Also, we missed visiting Dali’s desert.
We were lucky enough to have Iber and Vale as our driver/guide and the entire tour was so enjoyable. Both of them were not only highly knowledgeable, but more importantly, very friendly and fun to chat with throughout the two days. The heavy rain that had fallen made certain activities impossible, such as accessing the Tunupa volcano, but they made sure that we compensated by seeing other fascinating sights such as a plethora of seemingly endless rock formations, including a formerly underground cave with stalactites of calcified algae. Of course we spent almost the entire first day on the salar, and I'd agree it does live up to the hype, but for me it is the variety of interesting sights that this team was able to show us, and their warmth and enthusiasm, which really made the experience so fulfilling. I'm not sure if the hotel is always the same one, but we got to stay at Cruz Andina (made of salt!) and it was delightful -- do note that high winds can cut off power at times, but both times it happened they got the generators running again very quickly.
We had the best time on this tour!! Raquel, our tour guide, made the whole experience very special from start to finish. She has a great command of both English and Spanish which helped our whole tour group stay engaged throughout. Her knowledge and passion for the region, cultures and sites made for an incredible 2 days. Our driver Alex was also great - we felt very safe at all times and able to have a good laugh with him. Thanks again for a truly memorable experience. James & Billie x
While I enjoy the majority of this Tour, a few things can be improved. We did the 2-day Salt Flats tour with Andes Expedition. The drivers/guide are very nice and knowledgeable. The tour started on time. The salt hotel (Noritha) that came with the tour is not good. I dont mind basic accommodation but I mind good service. Dinner was so late, it was at 930pm, nobody is available at the reception if you need something. Breakfast was late too, they said 9am but by 910am we came down and nobody was there. We have to wait again. It wasn't a good experience. The tour also came with an early (optional) stargazing/sunrise experience - I did not enjoy this because they squeezed 7 people (plus driver) in a 4x4 vehicle. The drive was so tight and uncomfortable.
I had a wonderful experience with this tour. This place is absolutely amazing to see, the tour guides were great and stayed at a nice salt hotel with good food. I had a great time!
I had a truly incredible experience at the Salar de Uyuni. From the very first moment, I felt I was entering a magical place, where the sky and earth reflect and merge, creating a landscape that seems otherworldly. Walking on that immense natural mirror, surrounded by an embracing silence and a light that illuminates every detail, left me speechless. Every moment was special: the colors of the sunset, the tranquility of the infinite horizon, and the feeling of absolute freedom. It's a place that makes you reflect, fills you with peace, and connects you with nature in a profound way. Without a doubt, it's an experience that will be forever etched in my memory and heart.
The schedule of activities was really fantastic, however the guide was impatient, condescending and he made the whole experience feel quite rushed and inpersonal.
We did the 2-day Uyuni Salt Flats tour with Andes Salt Expeditions and it was amazing. The sunset and mirror effect were unforgettable, and our guide Edwardo went above and beyond to make the trip special. Highly recommend!
The Bolivian salt flats are truly otherworldly — vast, dazzling, and unforgettable. Thank you Jose for a perfect 2 day tour.
Highly recommend the 2D1N tour with this company! Juan and Fernando were excellent, very funny, great at getting us to the best places, amazing photographers and just all round, made sure everything ran smoothly. 2D1N gives you a good chance to explore the Salt Flats without needing to spend too much time there! Food was great and in abundance including wine for dinner which was a nice touch. Accommodation was good, better than expected! Itinerary does change as others mentioned but at no point did I feel like I missed out - if anything, I was amazed at how much we did do and see!
Great trip to the saltflats of uyuni! Edwin was a great, knowledgable and well-structured guide. We saw & learnt a lot with many stops and had enough time to enjoy everything! Also kudos to Carlos for its great driving (and great DJ!). Star gazing was the highlight of a fantastic first day! Overall great experience! Man thanks for the beautiful two days
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-day tour to the Uyuni salt flats. Thank you to our guide Raquel and driver Jesus for making our visit so enjoyable! Raquel was a fantastic guide, she was so friendly and shared so much information about the salt flats and Bolivia with us. The scenery was spectacular and unique, and we were lucky enough to see the mirror effect despite the time of year. On the second day we got up early to see the stars before waiting for sunrise - which was beautiful! As keen birdwatchers we were very pleased to see two types of flamingos as well as other bird species. We also saw viscacha, vicuna and lots of llamas! Thanks for a wonderful two days.
An unforgettable experience, which I highly recommend if you are in Bolivia. Our guide Jose was amazing very knowledgeable and gives us so much information, prepare our lunches and look after us so well. Highly recommend tour if you are in Bolivia!
Our trip to Bolivia with Jose was truly unforgettable! From the moment we started, Jose made us feel welcome and well taken care of. He was not only extremely knowledgeable about the region, history, and culture, but also incredibly kind, patient, and attentive to our needs. Visiting the Salt Lake (Salar de Uyuni) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience — the vast white landscape, the reflections, and the peaceful atmosphere were absolutely breathtaking. Jose made sure we got the best views, perfect photo spots. We couldn't have asked for a better guide or a more memorable trip. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bolivia!
Just back from an amazing 2 day 1 night tour with my 25 year old son. The Salt Flats are amazing but there is so much more to this trip with breathtaking views and experiences. Jose our guide was excellent and really made our trip. He was so friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the Salt Flats and surrounding areas and communities. Nothing was too much for him and he made sure the trip was focussed on what we wanted and did not rush us at all. I would recommend this trip without hesitation - it’s brilliant
The tour was amazing you get to see so much and we were lucky to have some water still on the salt flats. Our guide Jose was amazing and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend.
The tour started on time and the driver was already waiting for me when I arrived at the Todo Turisomo bus terminal. The daily activities and hikes were good and the tour guides were all very personable and knowledgeable. There are not a lot of tour companies that offer the 1 night tour, and I think this length is good for people who are on a schedule and still want to spend a night at a salt hotel (which was quite nice). Highly recommend!
I had a different guide for each of the 2 days and they were phenomenal, fun, knowledgeable, communicated the plan/sched clearly, picked great view points and help set up photos when wanted. The communication etc from the company itself I was displeased with. After booking, they initiated a what's app for communication, which was readily utilized until I started to have questions on written itinerary vs what was actually happening, or so it felt like. The written plan said star gazing at the end of day 1, but when I was dropped off at the hotel my guide said the pick up was tomorrow morning. I messaged the company on what's app and got no response, just a notification that the message was viewed. I gave up waiting a couple hours later and messaged again about the plan for the next day, as the written itinerary said sunrise, then back to the hotel for breakfast, but the 0930 start time precluded that. Also, no response. They finally responded 1hr before pick up time and commented on neither of my two questions. I emphasized that I chose and paid for the tour based on the written itinerary. On the positive side, it felt well organized and pressure/hassle free. I would rate my guides as 5/5 but the company as 2/5.
Honestly the best tour we’ve ever done! José was such a great guide, allowing us lots of time at every stop to get incredible photos and generally have an amazing time. Overall an incredible experience - and an amazing guide!
We had an amazing experience! Jose was detailed oriented, exceptional historical knowledge, and passionate about his job. He keeps his vehicle in tip top shape! Cleaning it the whole time we were out. He loves to help your group have fun and capture great pictures. The food and accommodations were clean and nice. We were unsure of what to expect, and this trip was a highlight of our Bolivian adventure.
Everything was planned out perfectly, saw so many things on the flats in 2 days and had many wonderful experiences. Definitely recommend
My friend did the research and found this tour online. Since I am usually the planner, I was a bit nervous that the 2 day tour would not meet my expectations. I am happy to report this tour exceeded my expectation and I still cannot believe how reasonably priced this tour is. For around $200 per person, you get pick-up and drop-off at your hotel or airport, 2-days of tours, meals, and even 1 night hotel accommodation with your own room. My understanding is that the tour operator (Andes Salt Expeditions) also offers a variety of other tours and upgrades as well. If I ever come come back to the area, I will use their services and I certainly will be recommending them to others. First of all, Bolivia has a lot to offer naturally but what really makes Bolivia special is its people. Bolivia has some of the nicest people that I have ever encountered. From the moment I landed at “El Alto” and throughout the time I spent there, Bolivians continued to strike me as kind, warm, caring, and helpful. And the people that run and staff this tour, they are a good examples of these qualities. I am more one to take a luxury tour. This is not a luxury tour, but Bolivia is not quite a luxury destination yet either. I think Bolivia’s charm is that it hasn’t yet been tainted by the luxury set yet. There are some luxury options, but I am pleased that I did not end up doing a more polished version of Bolivia and the Salt Flats. While I selfishly would like to see Bolivian destinations offer more luxury tours, and be more easily accessed, I know the price Bolivia will pay for this. I am happy to have seen Bolivia before it becomes too accessible and too overrun with tourists. Back to my comments on the tour….because the Salt Flat and Salar de Uyuni have not yet been overrun with tourism and commercialism, there is little to no pressure on tourists. Everyone I encountered was genuinely warm, inviting, and helpful. The accommodations at the Hotel Kachi de Uyuni were modest but attractive (and comfortable enough). While the shower in my room was not exactly what I normally would want and I little too small for my personal preferences, the hot water was plentiful. If the bathrooms were upgraded and food options expanded, I would even stay at that hotel again. Whoever decorated the commons areas of the hotel, did an excellent job as it highly Instagram worthy. The tour guides and staff are excellent (Wendy, Fernando, Juan, and Raquel, just to name a few). They did everything possible to accommodate any requests we had. They know so much about the Salt Flats, the area’s history, and about their country. The Salt Flat live up to all the hype as well. May is the perfect time to experience the Salt Flats while there is still enough water left to experience the mirror effect. The tour guides are also skilled at setting-up photographs for guests. They did great videos of all of us, took funny pictures, and advised where to get best photos. We got some epic photos and videos, but the experience of taking them was just as great. A few notes of caution: wear sunscreen, because the salt surface is reflective and even more intense due to the elevation; drink plenty of water, because the salt air, high elevation, and intensity of the sun will quickly dehydrate you; and take your time, because altitude sickness is way too real and the Salt Flats will wear you out.
I had 2D1N tour. Day 1 to the salt flat with Brian was awesome! He was both the guide, driver and photographer! He really made a huge effort to make every guest happy! On our way back, he even stopped to let us see the milky way above the salt flat! (Ended up we were the last group to come back!) A fruitful day with lots of beautiful memories! Day 2 with another guide Juan, it was also nice, though Brian took much better photos. Overall im happy with the tour!
The good: - Well-organized tour including the most important sights and places - Our drivers and staff were very friendly and helpful - We felt like the whole company did everything to make us feel the best - Guides always explained everything we needed to know Points to improve - Paid the extra 50 dollars for an English driver and out of the 4 only 2 spoke good enough English to address requests or explain things - During sunrise, we went to a wet part of the flat and even though we were prepared with warm clothes as requested, we were extremely cold (probably the coldest of our life) and that made the otherwise spectacular experience a bit worse. They could explain the required clothes in more details before the trip, bring your warmest socks (even 2 pairs) - We went with the medium package but the hotel provided wasn’t up to par: it was cold and dirty - During sunset, our guides really pushed us to create multiple group videos instead of taking our own photos - the whole group seamed to dislike this
Let’s start with the positive ! Fernando our guide and fernando the driver were excellent ! They alone would get 5 star reviews. They were fun and knowledgable and went the extra mile We weee fortunate to have great weather and the water was still there so got excellent photos. They offered flexibility to see the night sky and stay later on the salt flats which was amazing. The not so great … ? Firstly we expected to sleep the first night out at a salt hotel but came back to uyuni - due to previous bad weather affecting access However this wasn’t explained until we asked - the company weren’t forthcoming and communication in the office was lacking. Changes to itinerary and reasons weren’t clearly communicated For us , the train cemetery and other stop offs weren’t a highlight but the salt flats were the main event and didn’t disappoint. I would recommend Andes however but suggest they are more forthcoming about any changes to itinerary
We had such a great time, and Brian was both a great guide and a great photographer / choreographer :) Day #2 we had to change plans because of flooding and got a great day in the Andes instead
I had the most amazing time on this tour. There were several stops each day but each was amazing. The flats are simply spectacular and the tour was well run and perfect my paces. Amazing!
We had a 2 days English tour with Rachel. She did more than she should to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. It was great to have her as our guide.
The uyuni Salt lake is very beautiful. But other itineraries don't exist. A little regretful. the Tour guide is very good. helpful , The driver have very good Photographic technology.
This trip is amazing! We had some issue with our flights so we actually started our journey at the airport without any rest with 2 of my family members actually got high altitude sickness. The owner picked us up at the airport and took us to his home to cook us some special drinks his wife made to ease their altitude sickness and that helped alot! Due to some personal health issue the owner actually personalized the trip for us to make it much better! We spent such a great time with our tour guide Macro and so many great pictures during the 2 days trip.
we booked the 2 day 1 night tour and had a fantastic experience. Raquel, our guide, was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and overall made the experience even better. She wad attentive and willing to make sure we saw everything that we wanted to see. Elmer, our driver, was also very good and funny. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
This project was very well arranged, all activities were perfect. The manager personally picked up the guests at the airport and sent us to the hotel by himself after the tour. His team was very dedicated and the service was satisfactory. Especially Raquel, the guide, was very creative and took a lot of funny photos and videos for us. She is very nice and impressive.
Experiencing the Uyuni Salt Flats was great. Our guide was excellent. The tour agency changed our itinerary at the last minute (supposedly due to weather?), but it still turned out well. One negative was that although the group size is advertised as " maximum of 6" - they actually combine two groups of six (in two cars). So in reality the group size is 12. The food was basic, but good. Accommodation in the Salt Hotel was very nice. Another problem we had is that the agency sent us a list of things to bring on the tour... We followed the list exactly. But the list did not include bringing flip-flops or waterproof sandals for the Salt Flats - a definite "must have". Overall, this tour was a great experience for us.
We participated in an overnight tour of the Bolivian salt flats. Our guide Henry was excellent. The views created by the mirror effect are just incredible. Henry took many fun photos and videos for us to share. Highly recommended!
Overall a fun trip. However no communication received until 2 hours before departure when I contacted them. Upon contacting, they said our tour wasn’t possible and we could only do the 1 day tour. We had booked the 2 day 1 night. We were then taken to the office to talk about our tour. We asked for a straight refund so we could go with a different company. This was completely ignored, we then spoke to the boss who was called in who did arrange us a 2 day tour with lovely accommodation. The tour was fab and we really enjoyed however very wishy washy from the company and a lack of communication. Not sure we would have got a refund if we really needed one.
Our guide, Juan, was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, funny, kind, and took great photos. The food was also surprisingly good. Overall, an amazing trip!
One of the best trips we have been to, hands down! The agency has been so professional, not only did they arranged everything for us, the one night accommodation was in the FIVE star Palaciol de Sol as a gift for Christmas. Guide on the first day was Jose, who was very extensive in giving details for every site we went to and help took lots of fun pictures over the dried lake. Second day we were with Edwin, who arranged us climbing the volcano tunupa, it was challenging but fun. And Edwin took lots of photos for us over the lake reflection. I would recommend the trip to everyone who’s looking for an adventure.
Excellent trip conducted professionally by two guides, Christian and Henry, both were knowledgeable, funny and attentive to every questions and needs we had. Trip meals were excellent both in terms of quality and serving atmosphere. Hotel accommodation and meals were also great!
A must see if you’re in Bolivia! It’s hard to comprehend how big the slat flats are, the island, visit to the volcano and the sunset are amazing.
The two day tour of the salt flats and Volcan Thunumpa was great. The guides were very knowledgeable and everything went very smoothly. The lunches the staff prepared were very good as well.
Other than the fact that the Salar de Uyuni is one of the most beautiful places on earth, the tour operator was phenomenal. They were extremely communicative, when the area that we were supposed to visit on day two was flooded, they quickly changed plans, accommodation and itinerary to ensure that we still had a wonderful experience. They proactively sent out a message to that effect even before the tour started. Additionally, there were shortages of fuel in the country, yet they ensured that the trip went on as promised and went out of their way to have the cars fueled up before we went out. The front office person Wendy is very helpful, our driver Carlos and guide Edwin were delighted, very knowledgeable and helpful. The trip was extremely memorable and, luckily, we, as a group, jelled extremely nicely together. I highly recommend this operator
This tour out to the salt flats actually surprised me with how good it was. The salt flats were phenomenal. To my guide Edwin and my driver Carlos, you both did a fantastic job in showing us the best of what Uyuni Salt Flats had to offer us. Both your knowledge and expertise was second to none. To any influencers looking for some good photos, these two people are the ones you want for your next tour to the salt flats. I got some awesome photos and videos. Thanks once again brothers, you’re both legends and highly recommend this tour :)
