Itinerary
After a brief introduction to the most important square in Strasbourg, we will start the activity.
A majestic 18th-century classicist building that was the residence of prince-bishops. Its symmetrical facade, elegant and sober, contrasts with the Gothic richness of the cathedral. From the outside you can see the carved stone details and its wide windows that reflect the aristocratic past of Strasbourg.
Just opposite the cathedral, this 15th-century house stands out for its half-timbered architecture and loaded decoration: carved wood sculptures, stained glass windows, and high, pointed ceilings. It is one of the best preserved medieval houses in the city and a magnificent example of the German Renaissance.
From the outside, this Gothic gem impresses you with its 142-meter tower (it was the tallest in the world for centuries). Its facade is covered with sculptures that tell biblical stories, and its central rose window is an explosion of color and geometry. The pink sandstone changes its tone according to daylight. A masterpiece that dominates the old town!
A small cobbled square bordering the Ill River, surrounded by historic pastel-hued buildings. From here you have a privileged view of Rohan Palace and the tourist boats that cross the canals.
A large square dedicated to the inventor of the printing press, with his statue standing in the center. Around, neoclassical buildings and half-timbered houses. A Christmas wheel and a lively market are also usually installed here. It is a vibrant point between history and local life.
An impressive defensive structure from the 17th century. From the outside it looks like an arched dam that allows water to pass through and controlled flooding. You can climb to its terrace to see a spectacular view of Petite France and the covered bridge towers.
Strasbourg’s most picturesque neighborhood, with its half-timbered houses and sloping ceilings, flowery balconies and canals that cut across it all. From the outside, it looks like something out of a story. Here lived millers, tanners and fishermen. It's the romantic heart of the city

Our guide, Leila, led us through Strasbourg with infectious energy and enthusiasm (despite it being a very cold April morning). She shared the city’s history with interesting detail, including: The impressive Strasbourg cathedral; the city's history and architecture; the timber-framed houses and the canals. It was a thoroughly enjoyable tour. Recommended!
Great high level overview. I wish we would have had more time to go inside the buildings but good overview to determine what you would like to go and spend more time exploring. Our guide was super friendly, knowledgeable and English was very good. She provided a lot of helpful general information as well as history. Highly recommend and great for solo travelers.
We booked Strasbourg Historic Two-Hour Walking Tour with Local Guide tour specifically as an English-speaking tour from Tripadvisor. We travelled by train from Basel, Switzerland, to Strasbourg, France—a significant investment of time and money. When we were already on the train, we received a message from the guide stating there was "no English tour." We immediately informed him we did not speak Spanish. His solution was not to accommodate but to simply cancel. He then insisted we cancel the booking on our end. The real failure is that Tripadvisor refused the cancellation because the guide would not approve it from his side, leaving us in a bureaucratic nightmare. We are now out the cost of the tour and our non-refundable train fares. This is beyond unprofessional. It is a bait-and-switch on the language, followed by a cowardly cancellation that left us stranded in another country after a 2-hour journey, and a complete abdication of responsibility in resolving the issue. Do not trust this operator. They do not honor their listings, communicate proactively, or take accountability for ruining a planned trip. Save your money and book with a reputable company.
A perfect introduction to Strasbourg. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Stef learning about some of the history of Strasbourg and also getting tips on what to see during our stay. Stef was excellent not only knowing her history but she was extremely personable and fun. I would recommend the tour to anyone but if you get Stef it would be an added bonus!
Stefania is extremely knowledgeable and had a good presentational style. She has a lovely personality and endears herself to her guests. She was particularly impressive in remembering the names of everyone in the group after just a quick introduction. Her combination of history degree and local knowledge made her the ideal guide.
Good guide, nice pace, interesting facts, route through the old town well thought out. 2 hour walk, guide friendly & helpful with additional information.
I cannot remember our tour guide, but she was exceptional - knowledgeable and so personal. It was windy and rainy and cold - yet she took command and her sound system saved the day. She was from Venezuela, lives in France but was equally prolific in English - able to be charming and informative in the wet cold! So impressive!
A really good historic dive into the city of Strasbourg without it being too boring or nerdy. Steph has a great sense of humour, is very passionnante about her city and does a good job at making you feel the same way.
This was an excellent experience. Stefania is very knowledgeable, humours and charming. Insist on doing this with Stefania, she is the best!
The guide called me the day before to reschedule our walking tour to a day that we had a full day tour booked. She said she could work with our existing tour time. We arrived at the designated meeting place 13-10 Pl. de la Cathedral at 1400hrs as scheduled. We waited 20 minutes in the rain. During our wait, I sent the tour operator an email stating we were at the meeting spot. No response. After 20 minutes, we decided our guide was a no-show and left.
This was a wonderful way to get to know the beautiful city and its history. Laila our guide was fantastic!
Is is a lot of historical facts. Kids would be bored. The little food tasting was nice. Wish there was a beverage taste as well.
Most excellent. The best walking tour I ever had! Veryyyy knowledgeable about the area and history. Very pleasant manner of presentation.
Leila was very good and very knowledgeable about the historical and local facts. Her animated style made it more interesting to enjoy.
Our guide, Stef, was incredible. She is very knowledgeable about the history of Strasbourg. The city is amazingly interesting and beautiful.
Our guide (Stef) was very knowledgeable and personable. It felt like a tour with friends. She provided very good recommendations for restaurants and we enjoyed stopping at shops for samples.
We took this tour today, a smallish group (10-15 z our guide was Stef. The tour was interesting, giving us some historical background, but not too much, focusing as much on present day Strasbourg and how it has come about. Stef was an excellent guide, keeping us safe and out of the way of passing traffic, speaking in a voice we could all hear, clearly pointing out places of interest and also making suggestions and recommendations. Highly informative and the two hours flew by. Highly recommended.
The guide was brilliant and really informative. They answered all our questions and explained a lot about the city that we would never have found out on our own
It was one of the best free tours I’ve done, the guide Javier tells stories, facts and legends of the city of Strasbourg with a great sense of humour and transmits you his passion for history. Highly recommended!!
This was a good tour and I highly recommend it if you like history and architecture. There were a lot of interesting things to see within the city told from a local’s perspective.
Javier is a wonderful guide and he has explained everything to us perfectly. On top of that, he knows places in the area and managed to get us to try several samples of typical Alsatian food. Without a doubt, we recommend him.
We have been very lucky with our guide, Javier, a guy of Mexican origin, a historian who has lived in Strasbourg for years. The two hours have flown by. His explanations were super interesting and always with a touch of humor. I'm not a big fan of free tours for fear of having unprofessional guides with weak explanations, but with Javier, you can tell he likes his job, has prepared well what he explains, and knows how to communicate it. Congratulations! (and by the way, it's fantastic to have radio guides).
Javier was brilliant regarding the content and the pleasant way of telling it.
We took the tour with David, very enjoyable, we liked it a lot and David is a 10, you can tell he knows the history of the place very well and he answered the questions we asked him with very interesting facts and also gastronomic recommendations, as I said, a 10
A very interesting guided tour. The guide, Javier, was very pleasant, he kept the group in a very good mood the whole time. He took us through the history of the city with many interesting facts. In addition to many recommendations regarding shops, walks, and places to visit.

Great, very interesting and well explained. The guide very attentive and gave many recommendations for activities after the free tour
The visit was most interesting, very enjoyable, seeing the main of the Strasbourg tour, the very friendly and knowledgeable guide of the whole tour
The guide was touchingly enthusiastic and knew a lot about Strasbourg. She also knew how to answer questions excellently. In that respect it was a very educational tour. However, two hours is very long if you have to take in a lot of information. Then it can be nice to include some moments of rest to process all the 'lessons'.
Juan Pablo is an excellent guide, super nice and welcoming, he made his route very enjoyable and attractive for everyone. The route is very interesting and curious for tourists.
We loved the tour of Strasbourg with our guide Juan Pablo. Very pleasant, interesting and well explained. Definitely the best way to discover this beautiful city.
Javier was a great guide! He puts a lot of passion into the story and portrays the history of Strasbourg in a way that is super enjoyable and very adapted to the public. Lucky to have had you as a guide! 100% recommended!
We couldn't get any better guidance! The truth is that Javier was wonderful. Both your curious facts about the city and its people, as well as the historical data you told us made the visit to Strasbourg fantastic and we want to repeat! (Especially for the third reason he told us). My tens! 🙂↔️
Fantastic experience with Javier with a tour that has the perfect mix of history, customs and recommendations about the city in a lighthearted and enjoyable tone that is most enjoyable. Congratulations!
The guide (Javier) we liked a lot. He has explained history, culture, customs of the region in a very didactic way. The two hours of the tour have been made short!
Good free tour of Strasbourg. Javier makes it very enjoyable and knows very well the history of the city and the region in general. It also gives you gastronomy tips and places to continue to know the city. The two hours fly by!
