Great tour with knowledgeable guide! Our guide gave us Swedish history every step of the way, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a long day, so come rested.

Arkils Tingstad: It's an old "Ting" (assembly place), were the vikings gather together, had meetings and a court. It is located beautifully by the scenic Vallentuna lake. I will explain about the viking legal system. Travel time from Jarla Banke Bridge 5 minutes.
Vallentuna church: An old parish church from the late 12th century. I will explain of the transformation from pagan time into Christianity, then give the visitors a brief history of church of Sweden's history. Travel time from Arkil Tingstad 7 minutes.
We will a "fika" at Granby, fika is a traditional Swedish coffee break served with pastry. There we also will have a look at the ruins of an old viking settlement including the largest runic script in the world. Travel time from Vallentuna church 15 minutes.
Sigtuna was the first capital of Sweden and it is well conserved. You will have time for a quick lunch and some free time for shopping/looking around by your self. We meet up after an hour and I will a background of Sigtuna and guide you throw the ruins of Saint Olof church, named after the famous viking Olof Haraldsson, who later became a saint.

Uppsala cathedral is the main cathedral of Sweden and the seat for our archbishop. This is an excellent way to spend a day in the Swedish countryside. Our guide, Urban, was extremely professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He showed us Viking sites and explained the history, covered much of the history of Sweden, stopped at relevant sites as well as made stops for lingonberries along the way and Fika at a working farm. Well paced, and very interesting overall. Comfortable van and pickup and drop off at hotel were extra features.
The tour guide gave very good explanations about the runic stones and the monuments we visited in Sigtuna and Upsala. The fika break in a farm was very interesting.
This was a fantastic all day tour. Urban was very knowledgeable, engaging, and prompt. It was a bit difficult to understand him at times but overall the tour was fun and a must do experience, especially if you like history and Vikings.
It was a nice day out of Stockholm to see the country side. Urban was very knowledgeable. Sometimes he was a bit hard to understand, especially on the headsets. He was very friendly and hospitable to us.
Excellent tour. Our guide, Urban, was very knowledgeable in Viking history, Swedish history and history of the other Nordic countries. He shared many facts and stories, both full of history and mythology.
Love everything viking and I've never been to Sweden so this sounded like a great way to spend a day out of Stockholm. Urban our guide was great. Where I stayed is not so easy for a pick up but I didn't mind a few minutes walk to be picked up - he was on time. There were only a few pick ups on our way out of the city so it didn't feel annoying. Then we were off exploring round stones which are amazing, a meeting house near a lake, a stop for fika at a large gorgeous farm which also once had a long house on its land, and then wandering through Sigtuna with its pretty houses where we stopped for lunch and exploring the ruins of its church. After that we went to see the burial mounds, then Uppsala and visited the cathedral and the university then back to Stockholm. It is a long day 8.25 until after 6pm but really worth it. Urban is amazing - a bit of a legend in his own lifetime with all his travels and but also a deep knowledge and love of history which comes through in his storytelling and explanations of what we were looking at during each stop. I highly, highly recommend this trip.
Urban provided a wealth of information on many topics. We visited many places which provided an excellent base upon which to explore more of Stockholm. Highly recommend this tour and to do it early in your stay. Love the Fika stop too. Thanks Urban.
A very enjoyable journey into the country outside of Stockholm. Sigtuna and Uppsala with lots of interesting information from our guide and driver. A perfect day out of the city!
We found this to be a very informative experience. learned about Viking life and how they expanded their world.
Urban is a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Tour was informative and well paced.
Olaf was a great tour guide! He shared historical information as well as modern Swedish life as well. It was fantastic!
The trip was very informative about Rune Stones and the history of the Vikings. However, as the description of the tour mentioned visiting a traditional farm and having a ‘Fika’ break, we were quite disappointed when this did not happen as it was one of the main reasons we booked the trip. No explanation about the omission was given.
Very informative. We visited several sites which included rune stones, ruins and churches. Uppsala and Sigtuna were quiet beautiful towns and our guide Calle together with our driver Bianca were very friendly, approachable and informed! Calle was especially entertaining and engaging. If you're a history buff or a viking lore nerd, they will take you through the history of the viking age from start to end. Do not be shy and ask questions! They will surely have an answer for you.
This is a terrific tour. I learned so much about Vikings and rune stones. This tour is a must do for anyone interested in history.
Our guide did an amazing job of filling us in on the history of not only Sweden, but each place we visited- step by step. He didn’t overwhelm us, but just explained as we went, about each site we would see and why each one was built or likely in the place it was set (as in stones and burial mounds). It was a full day of exploration, but we were not exhausted at the end- just so thankful that we had gone! So much rich history to be seen.
A packed and well- structured itinerary with a fun and informative guide. The group is restricted to be small, which is ideal. We had a great day. Thanks Urban!
This was a great experience! For anyone who is interested in Viking history, Highly recommend this tour. Urban was a great host, and an amazing tour guide, full of lots of great information that we would not otherwise have known. We saw quite a few runestones, and he explained a lot of the history of the Vikings in Sweden and other parts of Scandinavia. We saw Uppsala, had a Fika, and saw the beautiful countryside of Sweden. Urban was very considerate of all the passengers' needs, and he even went out of his way to find a bathroom for one of the people on the tour! It was amazing time!!!
This was an outstanding tour. Urban was extremely knowledgeable and was happy to share that knowledge. We learned all about the Vikings and what happened to them when Sweden became Catholic, and then how it became Lutheran in the 1500's with the Reformation. Ancient churches, rune stones, Viking burial mounds, and the beautiful Swedish forests and countryside. You get a real sense of the ancient history of the place as well as the countryside with its acres and acres of rolling wheat fields and red barns/houses. Highly recommended.
Regardless of the expense, this excursion delivered low value. The guide's description delivery was exceedingly verbose about much that was uninspiring to the point that some of the travellers completely ignored him. He droned on about picayune subjects and gave little of entertaining value. What I would deem of greater interest was sloughed off with little explanation and time allotted, e.g. burial mounds etc. Whereas, an inordinate amount of time was given explaining the intricate details of each and every rune that we saw. Sigtuna and Uppsala should have been allotted far more time and less on the runes. The speaker system within the small van was very poor. And, the fika offerings were miserly and a waste of time. I have been on dozens of Viator excursions around the world and this is the first negative one that I have written.
This tour was not worth the money we paid. Our driver was nice and the guide was very knowledgeable; however, the tour that is listed is not what we got. The tour purchased was sold to another company and we did not do all of the stops and did not receive the Fika Swedish Coffee Break that was supposed to be included. We did not spend 4 hours in Stockholm County at the end of the tour. Instead of going in one van there were two large mini vans that were not coordinated well. We spent a lot of time waiting on the other van with the guide to see the attractions. Our van had the driver who did not have the in depth information about the attractions. If you are into Vikings and want to spend the whole day looking at different Runestones this is the tour for you. If you are hoping to see areas outside of Stockholm that are great areas to see with wonderful photo ops I would choose another tour..
The mini bus could have been newer & larger, but all together a great excursion. The guide/driver was very knowledgeable and fun!
This is best for a good weather day, because there is some extended walking involved. There is a brief lunch/shopping stop. Be sure to eat before any shopping, because it happens to be when restaurants are winding up lunch.
A very interesting and informative day. Learned a lot about Vikings and early Swedish history. Our guide Urban kept things entertaining while also sharing some great insights. Overall a day well spent
Very enjoyable trip. It was great to learn a lot of Swedish history with as much viking history as possible. Urban was a great guide and we enjoyed the tour very much.
This tour was a good exploration of places outside the city of Stockholm. Urban was a good tour guide and was very knowledgable about the history of the sites. Unfortunately the day we had our tour it was cold and wet which I understand cannot be helped, but no heat was provided on the bus. Most of us were shivering in the cold. I feel that more of the commentary should have been given on the bus to avoid us standing in the cold, wet rain.
I love history and finding out about the history of the places I visit, if you are the same you will love it too. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to provide us with a full history lesson.
Urban knows his stuff, but is a little difficult at times to understand. A full day was a bit too long for our family
A wonderful day spent with Cala our guide. His knowledge of the Vikings and history of Sweden was amazing. A fun day out!!
Knowledgeable guide. Nice day in the country. Nice farmhouse stop for a Fika. Many wonderful runestones. Burial mounds were fascinating.
Wonderful day. Excellent Ternary and very knowledgeable and charming guide. A true highlight of our first visit to Sweden.
Urban, our guide, is extremely knowledgable, fun, friendly, and very helpful - as a result, our tour was outstanding! We saw so much more than we expected to see and really learned a lot about Sweden, Swedish history, Vikings, religion, architecture, etc. We took tons of photos, enjoyed all the food, explored so many places, and had plenty of time with the group and on our own. It's a good balance of walking and riding so while it is a long day, you don't come back exhausted. If you are interested in a worthwhile daytrip from Stockholm, we highly recommend this one.
Great tour, I recommend everyone take this tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable!!! It was a bit chilly.
Urban was a congenial and knowledgeable guide. The rune stones were amazing, but he showed us so much more.
Great tour, with options for pick up around Central station area. Great if you want to see other stuff while being at Stockholm. Our guide was very helpful and accessible.
Pros: Urban, the guide, was nice, punctual, and a walking encyclopedia. Seeing the Swedish countryside on a lovely day. Fika was yummy at a bucolic setting. Cons: The whole experience lacked context. You learn quickly that Runes aren’t all that special then the mystery is gone. This was called a “Viking Tour” but what we got about Viking culture was in churches. Our guides didn’t have any visuals to give big picture context. Often I couldn’t understand him even with the ear piece. Most of our tour group had checked out, but he didn’t read the group. It seemed like he just pushed play in his memory at a location, and just talked. He would answer questions but didn’t engage us in a meaningful way. Our tour has 16 people which was one too many on the bus. Having 4 full size people in the back seat was uncomfortable the whole time. Bottom line: If you want to see rune stones, go on a half day tour or find them in Stockholm (we saw one the next day).
Problem was that the guide was incomprehensible. A bit of a surprise as everyone we met in Stockholm spoke English quite well. There is little more to add.
Definitely recommended, not only for history afficionados - the guides are happy to accommodate your needs when it comes to the programme and the level of specificity. Personally I found all the information very interesting and a great start to deepen my knowledge of Viking history. Jonathan is a very skilled guide and can convey a lot of info in an interesting manner, we also had a local guide for Sigtuna - Lena - who gave us a solid and fun overview of the town's past. Both guides answered all of the questions with patience and in detail. Also, the views on the sunny winter day were a marvel. All in all, spent a very pleasant day and learned a lot. Bianca, Jonathan and Lena - thanks!
Great guide in Åsa! We learned so much and endured the winter snow which made it even more beautiful and exciting. Great tour and a wonderful full day excursion from Stockholm.
This was a great tour . Our guide / driver was Urban and he was wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour if you are interested in Viking history and or Swedish history and culture . Really fun day . I learned a lot !
Very nice tour. The tour guide, Urban, was very friendly and informative. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about Viking history, as well as Swedish history overall.
This is a fun, interesting, educational and comprehensive tour with very good English commentary. Calle was our guide and he is the best - helpful, polite, professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommended if you really wanna know history of the Vikings.
Carle was a Fantastic guide! So knowledgeable and even though it was cold and a little rainy, the trip was worth it! Loved seeing the Swedish countryside.
It was one of the best tours I have been on. Only 8 passengers in a van driven by Urban, our guide, who was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of interesting information about each place we visited. We covered so many places, saw and learned so much in one day. It was a really worthwhile tour.
Great tour. Urbana’s knowledge is unbelievable, he knows so much! He gets to know who is on the tour and includes relevant information relating to their country and vikings. Really enjoyed the day and would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in Viking history
A great day trip out learning about the Vikings and Sweden (past and present). Urban is an absolute gentleman. So friendly and one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met. He is a fountain of knowledge and passes on the knowledge in a way that is engaging and educational. Urban went out of his way to show us as much as he could fit in on one day trip. If I come back to Stockholm I’d actually do the trip again. And finally, he took an interest in what country you were from. As we were Irish, and therefore have a Viking history, he was able to tailor the tour and include bits that would be of extra interest to us.
I can only rave about this tour. Urban was very knowledgeable and had good banter. Made for a very enjoyable day trip. Moreover, as someone with a strong interest in Vikings, I could not have chosen a better way to spend a day in Sweden!
Booked this last minute (<6 hours) and it was no problem. The tour was fantastic- Urban is a very knowledgeable and extremely fun guide. The fika was great. Visits to Sigtuna and other places were extremely fun and informative. If you know your history/science, get ready to see some extremely important figures in world history.
Urban is really nice and very knowledgable, this is one the best tour ever, and evryone is very nice too
Urban was a wonderful and very knowledgeable tour guide. We saw many interesting things, much of it viking related, but quite a bit of it was not. Overall, very good tour.
