An incredibly well-curated, well-presented and informative series of exhibits about what it meant to 'go viking', and life in 'the Viking Era'. Cannot recommend enough the exceptionally engaging Guided Talk (included); the guy that gave the talk was funny, and taught us lots that was outside the information presented in the museum. *If you go to the Vikingaliv, do not miss these talks!* It was the real highlight for me. Recommend taking headphones for the excellent free audio guide, which corresponds closely to the information panels (which is good in busy periods where it can be difficult to get close to them!). Exhibits ranged from the daily living environment, garments and eating habits of the period to Norse mythology and the vast presence of Viking symbology in popular culture. I also learned a lot about how and why Scandinavian men of this period would go viking, but also what the women of the period were doing, which (despite some grumpy reviewers seemingly taking issue with this) I found to be an important additional dimension to my knowledge of life in this area and era. I have seen reviews that deride this museum as 'touristy' or for kids. But as a scholar in their 40s on a solo visit, I found it to be nether; perhaps it is what you make of it, and I found the Vikingaliv full of academic insight (written and audio-visual) and myth-busting. Re food: The food options were quite formal, and so if you have children, fancy a light lunch or were looking for a more relaxed or canteen-style culinary experience, I would probably look to make alternative arrangements!

We enjoyed the visit very much. The displays were very interesting and we were able to learn a lot about the vikings and their history. The ride was amazing and a lot of fun.
Very interactive and the presenters were fabulous . Artifacts and the ride were amazing! Really able to learn about Vikings in a fun way
This is an excellent museum that provides a great overview of the history of the Vikings. The interactive displays and role play by the staff enhances the experience incredibly. Definitely a must do in Stockholm
We visited the museum this August with my 7 year old daughter and we loved it! It was a great way to introduce the history of Sweden to my daughter in a fun and authentic way. If we come back, we will definitely do it again!
Little bit disappointing after seeing this advertised widely across the City. Staff were helpful; museum was easy enough to get to but was quite small with the “highlight” being a 10 minute story-ride in a gondola exploring a Viking family history. Gift shop was quite interesting but restaurant is quite formal and not the kind of “cafe” you would expect in a museum so not somewhere you can grab food easily if the kids get hungry. Given the relatively high entry fee there are other museums across the City that offer better value for money.
As someone who is interested in the Viking era, and as we were in the area, we decided to visit this museum. It will be interesting to anyone who wants to know about the 'Vikings'. The tour guide was knowledgeable and dispelled many of the myths about vikings. I was more interested in the artefacts and we left the tour to explore on our own. It was interesting but I didn't really learn anything. The ride telling the story was fun and would be great for children. Quite a touristy place.
Easy booking good communication
Great museum, ideal for families with kids and teens. Informative and to the point, even my viking-loving husband enjoyed it. Interactive and includes photo ops. The tour guides were absolutely excellent too and so in character. Lots of fun and the gift shop is really good too.
This museum is great! There is a lot of written information which may challenge folk who prefer to see rather than read - (In English for those who need English) yet you can also use an audio guide to listen through your phone. However, there are also staff, dressed as vikings, around the museum to give first-hand information and anecdotes - these guides were enthralling and entertaining. And, seeing how the scientists recreated a life sized figure of a viking person, based on research of skeletal remains, is amazing. You must do the guided tour - a great story and good for kids. Overall, a really enjoyable, interesting experience.
Great experience, especially the last ride, you will gain lot of knowledge about their ancestors, great experience overall
We visited this museum with the family for the first time. It was easy to navigate with small children, and there was plenty to see. The tour at the end was fantastic; our 5-year-old enjoyed it, and it wasn't too scary for him.
Very informative and the guide gave a great story-telling performance. The ride was also enjoyable.
Fun experience at the Viking Museum. The audioguide was missing several sections and we should have waited for a tour as that would have made the experience better, however, the museum is great.
Great interactive learning experience. People dressed up in viking outfits guide you live and you can ask questions, touch artefacts, ride on a ride and nice ship and restaurant too. Friendly staff.
A good overview of the Viking period and their influence on Northern Europe. Worth 3hours of a visit to Stockholm
A lot of information about the viking period, staff dressed up in outfits from that time and telling the story in person, a ride at the end with a viking story. A shop with viking things to buy and a restaurant. We spent about 2 hours reading, watching and listening.
Very informative about Viking history and culture. Staff was dressed in period clothing and very interactive with guests. Especially the children.
Enjoyed my visit to the Viking museum. My compliments to the English speaking guide.
A nice, simple & smaller museum compared to the others in Stockholm. Still a great museum to visit especially if the Vikings, mythology and their lifestyle/history is of interest to you. Purchase times online ahead of time to speed up the entry process.
If you don't know much about the Vikings then this museum will open your eyes and enlighten you, at the same time dispelling some pre-conceived ideas you may hold. Very knowledgeable and helped by people dressed up as Viking characters to fully engross you. Not to be missed is the tour of an imaginary Viking family as you ride in a fair ground style ride.
Great day out very enjoyable and informative staff the best part was the ride at the end of the tour highly recommended.
Entertaining and educational. The guided tour was short but delivered well. The museum is small but educational and interactive in spaces with a ride at the end. Nice way to spend an hour.
Awesome, was the best part of my Sweeden trip.
Good for all ages and broad overview of relevant European and beyond history. There is a pleasant restaurant on site with focus on regional dishes.
Well presented museum clean tidy informative about the viking existence a little bonus with the ride explaining a viking family story. A good way to spend an 1 hour after the ABBA museum
We enjoyed the English-speaking guide and the exhibits. The biggest surprise was the little ride in the bottom of the building. What a lovely story and model work. Epic place. I loved it.
Wonderful food and very nice serving staff. Also enjoyed a very interesting information from Jessica who really captured our interest. What a treat for the museum to have these people employed. Will absolutely come again for the excellent food and more history lessons.
It strikes a rare balance between being genuinely educational and effortlessly entertaining.
Excellent venue and facilities available. Really enjoy my time in the Viking museum. Highly recommended
The viking museum offers a snapshot into life in Sweden and the rest of Europe during the golden age of the legendary viking. The museum has staff on hand doing demonstrations, showing various viking artifacts to you and what they were used for. This was especially helpful as the staff spoke excellent English and my partner is blind and naturally, can't feel the things behind the cabinet cases, so allowing her to hold things was really cool. She enjoyed trying on the helmet! We stayed a little over an hour, not including the lovely meal we had in the restaurant afterwards. The ride at the end is really interesting, you go in a small card on a track, being told a story of a family who lives in the viking era. The museum also taps into norse mythology and as a enjoyer of the recent God of War games, it was interesting to see how much other popular culture references the museum notes.
This was a small, but fun museum. Probably better for smaller children. Teenagers found it a little cheesy.
The 2 meter tall Viking guide was the highlight. Very knowledgeable, very funny man. He was the highlight. The rest was OK but lacked something. Maybe I had been spoiled at Basa!
A great museum with something for everyone If you want lots of details there is the information here - if you want a quick Viking experience it will also satisfy Nice cafe and restaurant
Today we visited the Viking museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would highly recommend listening to a tour guide which really helps to understand the exhibits better, plus they’re really knowledgeable and entertaining. If you get a chance to eat in the restaurant do. It’s beautifully decorated for Christmas and has a great menu for reasonable prices.
Brilliant Musuem! We spent a good 30 minutes listening to Askur, very knowledgeable guy and friendly. The ride was cool and maybbeeee better than the York one lol!
Great museum! Interactive, comprehensive, and informative. The audio guides that can be scanned on the walls by QR code are a must and really contribute to the experience. The restaurant by the side is really good and with fair prices.
Wonderful experience from the beginning to the end, a lot of information and good guided tour, and nice ride. Friendly staff and free lockers.
Surprisingly engaging. We heard from fellow travelers at the airport that they'd been and recommended it. We can recommend it, too, because it's informative and engaging in a way that is different from academic or national history museums. TIP do attend one of the staff talks TIP Travel to Djurgården, a destination in and of itself, via ferry, if convenient. We took ferry 82 from Djurgården, behind the Backstage Cafe next door to the Abba Museum, to Slussen using our SL multi-day pass; very nice.
This is a fun museum. Maybe more aimed at children than adults but no less interesting for that. The displays were of a good quality and the explanations were educational. The ride at the end was an added treat.
Small but information packed museum with lots of replicas which make you feel like touching history. There is also a short ride at the end of the experience but it was unfortunately broken when we visited. If you are visiting for a first time, definitely worth to pay a visit
It takes in all aspects of the Viking age with a really interesting timeline early on in the exhibition which is quite unreal. The restaurant was good as well
Amazing little Museum which highly knowledgable personal. We listened to a tour which was not only filled with knowledge, but tons of funny anecdotes. We had a blast of a time!
Great museum to learn more about Viking culture! Very interactive, with a treasure map that comes with a prize at the end, plus a fun ride that tells the story of a Viking family. A fantastic program for kids!
A great museum that explains in depth the history and life of the vikings. the ride was surprisingly effective, and we learned a lot. Even does viking culture in gaming.
Great way to get a more complete view of viking life. The ride was educational as well. We learned a lot. Would recommend!
What a wonderfull day and experience. Your staff is wonderful with so much knowledge and wisdom af the vikings and the viking era. These 3 vikings made our day. Thank you
Viking Museum is next door to the famous and best Stockholm museum Vasa. Both are included in the Go City Pass, so after visiting Vasa we came here, which was probably a mistake as it seems underwhelming then (try to visit vice versa). Museum depicts Viking life with displayed objects, maps of explorations and conquering, as well some curators story telling and finally a theme park ride. It was OK as it was included in the Go City Pass, however I wouldn't pay the initial fee at the cash desk if it wasn't.
A really great fun museum. It covered the practical side of the viking life as well as the mythical side. There is a fun ride at the end which follows the story of a viking journey to find silver.
Great little museum with helpful and friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Would have loved to see some more artefacts but there was plenty of information to keep us occupied.
