If anyone is searching reviews of Low Key Watersports to determine if they want to use Low Key, YOU NEED TO READ THIS REVIEW. I booked Low Key with my brother to do two dives. All of the staff and boat personnel were extremely friendly, extremely knowledgeable, extremely enthusiastic, and very determined to make your dive the best experience of your vacation. After the first dive, my brother had a major medical event (NOTE: his medical event WAS NOT related to the dive). The crew cut the dive short to make an emergency turnaround to get my brother to the hospital on St. Thomas as fast as possible. Low Key made sure we were met by the paramedic unit on the wharf. My brother sadly passed away in the hospital. Low Key's response to me was full of empathy and they fell over backwards doing all they could to assist me in my grief. I realized some of my brothers’ gear was left on the boat during his transport and me and my family were actually on board the car ferry waiting to depart back to St. Thomas when I called the dive shop regarding his gear. Instead of mailing the gear (which they were ready to do), one of the shop owners had jumped in his car, sped to the ferry, met me on the ramp, and handed off my brothers gear to me along with a big hug. Bottom line is, please book dives with Low Key as they treat you like close family!

Excellent diving experience! Ellie kept it light and fun for the whole group! We were lucky enough to encounter two nurse sharks at Dog Island which made it even more memorable!
Great dive crew, especially Pete, who helped us with refresher dive because we hadn’t dived in several years
First time diving in USVI and we had a great experience with Low Key! Captain Andre and dive guide Dave were friendly, knowledgeable and we appreciated their safety focus. Fantastic morning of diving at the renowned French Cap site where we spotted several sharks and loved the topography. Definitely recommend this operator whether you are new to diving or are a seasoned pro. We took the ferry over from St Thomas and it was easy to grab a coffee and quick bite to eat before walking over to their shop/dock. Can’t wait to come back!
Bring your own regulator and BCD and this is a great shop. Good people given very low quality rental equipment. Multiple regulator failures seen over 3 days. Seriously- we’ve been on 100+ dives each and 2 of our divers on the boat had complete failures. The BCD pockets lost their weights 3 times on our 6 dives (in our entire groups) Thank goodness these are shallow dive sites. The equipment was SO poor, I considered reporting this shop to PADI. Their boat was fantastic. Personally- I would take a lesser boat with safe equipment every day of the week.
Excellent experience with Low Key Watersports. The guides (Ellie and Ellie) were fun and they took us on two really fun dive locations. There was a little trouble with the ferry from St Thomas because unknown to either Low Key or myself the ferry schedule changed for the off-season, and we almost missed our dive. Fortunately Low Key was in contact with us and they waited a few minutes so we could join the dive. In the end we did not hold up the boat and we were very thankful they were able to accommodate my wife and I to join the dive. I would highly recommend Low Key if you go diving on St. John!
Went here with my best friend to re-introduce him to scuba. Nice shop, decent boat, very good DM. My buddy actually had a busted eardrum years before and was a bit janky about the whole diving thing and had issues getting back into the water the first time- and had some pain and cut the dive. When we were back on the boat- I pulled the DM aside and noted the issue to him, and this guy really really went all out to give personal service and instruction to my friend. Second dive was a BLAST! Turns out my buddy got bit by the diving but, and then got infected with diving disease- and now he's an Instructor!!! All in the last two years, and all because 1 DM from this shop took the time and care to help just 1 person, a VET, who's now helping others. I don't know how you can give a better or higher recommendation to a team or a shop than that. GREAT JOB LOW KEY!!!! 5 thumbs up
My husband and I are avid divers and we took our niece out with Low Key for a DSD for her 15th birthday. Ellie was her instructor and she was absolutely amazing with her! The seas were a bit choppy that day, but the captain took us to the calmest places available and we had a blast! The highlight for my niece was seeing an octopus alive in the wild. Plus the green sea turtles are always fun. Highly recommend
Our boat captain (Paul) and dive guide (Ellie) were awesome. They chose places where both the diving and snorkeling would be great. They were able to take us around St John to see some of the sights and share some of the history. We had a great lunch at Pizza Pi in a nice calm cove. The boat was beautiful too- new and comfortable for our group of six. Overall it was a great day on the water!
Had a really disappointing week with Low Key Watersports. Four of us came to St. John for 10 days to scuba dive. We went into the store and purchased 8-tank dive packages through Jay. We told him we wanted to dive every other day starting the next day. He booked us for the first 2 days and said to hold off on the others to see if other dives like the MS Rhone ended up being offered. We dove the first 2 days with divemasters who jumped in the water and took off. During parts of the dive no one in the group even new where they were and it was hard to see due to lower visibility than usual. They definitely were not focused on the safety of the divers and only once in 4 dives did any of them check our remaining air supplies. After the first 2 days of diving we tried to book our remaining 2 days and were told they were full until Saturday so they refunded our money. They did not refer us to another dive operator so we searched online and ended up diving with Aqua Action on St. Thomas. They were great and we recommemd using them. But we had to take the ferry and a taxi and haul our equipment with us which added effort and at least an extra $100 each day. For two of us it was our ninth trip to St. John and we brought the other two divers to show them how great the diving was. We were all so disappointed that we all agree we may never return. So we will put Grand Cayman into our rotation instead. So beware - the current team at Low Key is disorganized and unprofessional. Perhaps if management changes, we will return sometime but it will be years from now.
I recently returned from a week's vacation in St. John. St. John is one of my all-time favorite places on the planet and I've been returning on a fairly regular basis since first traveling there in 2010. Usually, when I'm in St. John, I make a point of booking a few dives with Low Key and this trip was no exception. This time, I booked four days of diving (all morning dives, though I often mix it up with afternoons, as well). Unfortunately, I couldn't do a night dive with them this time, due to scheduling, but I have in the past and absolutely love their night dives! On this trip I did three days of two-tank morning dives and one day of the Adventure Dives. One of the things I love the most about diving with Low-Key is that most of the sites are only 10-15 minutes from the dock. That means less time on the boat and more time in the water! Also, May can be a gusty month in St. John. So, the water was a little choppy, but a very comfortable 81 degrees. Again, given the abundance of dive sites, it meant the crew could easily find sites we could still comfortably dive high winds notwithstanding. Some of the things we saw were turtles, rays, eels, lobster, a nurse shark, barracuda, and other amazing fish and coral formations (particularly at Mingo). The crew couldn't be nicer. On this trip I dove with Serenity, Ellie, and Dave all of whom were outstanding dive leaders. The two captains (across all my trips) were Andre and Paul, also both really lovely. One really nice plus of diving this time is that they have a new catamaran that can convert from a dive boat to a leisure craft which gave more room to spread out before and after dives, which was really nice. I love the team at Low Key and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and I'm already looking forward to diving with them again, when I'm back in St. J next year (hopefully, I'm be able to fit in a night dive that time)!
Great Experience! Absolutely recommend Low Key. Thank You
I had a 2-tank Adventure dive with Low Key Divers and it was terrific! Lilly was our Dive master and Sam was the Captain. They did a great job at guiding our group through awesome pass-throughs and along a nice wall. They were god at spotting things and found a well camo-ed octopus. The boat was very nice and well organized. also it was not crowded (a total of 8 divers. I will visit them again the next time I am in St. John.
Great crew. Interesting dive with unexpected treats to see. Very professional expertise.
Had a great time in two days diving with Lowkey! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, and good diving on all four dives! You won't regret time spent with them!
Great dive.... First dive had lots of smaller reef fish.... second was cool diving through coral caverns
Excellent choice for us getting off cruise ship tender and walking to dive shop. Every major item done for us as the only thing we carried to boat was fins and our own equipment. BC and air already to go on the boat. Biggest surprise was the largest dolphin I have ever seen was swimming around our group. I estimate him being 1000 lbs and was the first for everyone on board even the dive masters. For anyone needing a refresher coarse they seemed to do that very well as well.
We had a fantastic time with our children, utilizing the services of low-key water sports. Our boys aged 10 and 12 did the “discovery“ scuba program and had a blast. My husband and I did refresh your courses and then participated in an open water dive. Everything was in order, great staff, and supervision, and the timing on all excursions was excellent.
We had a great time diving with this crew. Wonderful site, great dive masters and lots of coral and wildlife. Absolutely recommend for safety and fun.
Lovely morning dives. The crew was very friendly and approachable. Also quite knowledgeable. I wish the reef had had more things to see, but that’s not the dive shop’s fault. Would definitely dive again with them.
Four of us just spent a week diving with Low Key and had a great time. All their dive masters are exceptional with my favorite being Serenity. We were diving with our daughter and nephew. Our nephew was a brand new diver-just certified before this trip and our daughter has about 15 dives now. Everything was organized and safe. I especially like that they helped them with their gear and helped me in and out of the boat making it much easier. My husband and I have been diving with Low Key for 6 years and we'll continue to use them on our trips to St. John.
We assumed a two tank dive would mean we would use all the air both dives we had over 1500 pounds left over. We were put with very inexperienced divers which made the diving not so great. we really enjoyed your DM Mike and Dave, and that was the best part about the diving.
Two fantastic dives. The Crew was friendly, experienced, and very helpful. The dive boat was comfortable with excellent access into and out of the water. The dive gear worked well and fit perfectly. The water was warm and inviting. The reefs were beautiful and the dive was extremely fun. Great job Crew!
Always amazing at Low Key! From the dive staff… serenity, Andre, Lillian, and captain Buz to the staff in the shop! Top notch, safe, fun dives -every time. We also dive her with our children — Andre took our family photos, which turned out great!
I've been diving with these guys for over 2 years now, at least 20 dives. Always, professional, knowledgeable, & fun. Over those years, I think I've dove with all of the dive masters. My skills have improved because of their helpful instruction. They also have quality equipment. I only need the BCD now, but over the years I also gotten fins & masks a few times.
Friendly front office, good responses to email queries beforehand. Checked all the boxes in terms of safety and dive briefings. One of the DMs handled a novice diver’s panic very well. No complaints.
We love LKW! We've dove with them since 1998. Gracie and Serenity were dive guides on this trip out, and they are both so attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Had a great time completing our certification, and going on a few dives. The dive instructors were professional, but fun. The experience was everything we had hoped it would be.
We did a morning dive trip with Low Key and had the best time. Our guide, Andre, was super knowledgeable and found so many unique underwater creatures to show us. We also saw bigger things like turtles, a ray, and an eel. The reef at Congo Cay was my favorite because it was just teeming with life and had vibrant colors everywhere. I highly recommend Low Key and would definitely dive with them again.
Great diving experience with Andre and the rest of the crew at Low Key. We rented some tanks from them earlier in the week, which was fast and easy. On the next to last day of our trip, we had some free time, so the afternoon before we called to see if they could fit us in on a guided diving trip. They were able to do so and we had a very pleasant time. They don’t pack you like cattle into their boats. They’re right on the beach in Cruz Bay, so you can easily dinghy up to their dock to grab gear or drag your dinghy onto the beach next to their dock if you’re going out on a dive.
We have been diving with Low Key for 25 years. They never disappoint. They are always professional and they prioritize safety. The boats are never crowded and there are always enough guides to make sure everyone has a great and safe dive.
Spent 3 great days diving with the Lowkey folks. Having been diving with this group since 2018 and they never disappoint. Serenity and Andre so are good to dive with they are great at pointing out all of the small things that most divers miss. New comer Michael ran a good dive and Captain Acua always makes sure everyone is safe and gets back to the dock. Look forward to my next trip and as always a special thanks to Serenity and Andre M
Captain Acua found the perfect time to dive Carvel Rock. Perfect conditions, wonderful sea life, nice size tarpens, and a wonderful suprise to find a grouper !
Went diving with Low Key in April 2025. Originally, I booked two days of morning dives and one evening for night diving. Unfortunately, my night dive had to be cancelled because too few people had signed up. However, I can tell you that I've done night diving with Low Key in the past and they were amazing, which is why I was hoping to do a night dive on this trip. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. I did my first dives on a Tuesday morning and it ended up being fantastic because I ended up diving two new spots I'd never seen before in all my years of coming down to St. John. So, that was fantastic. I think we only had about seven divers on the boat, which felt like a nice-sized group, but not too big. Saw a bunch of sharks, barracuda, tons of beautiful fish, and lovely coral. I did my second dive a couple of days later. This time, we dove one site I'd never been to (Congo) and while we were there, a female dolphin and her calf swam right up to our group of three divers. A totally mind-blowing experience and a first for me. Continued the dive and saw more gorgeous, tropical fish and beautiful coral formations. Our second dive was out by Mingo and we saw puffers, lionfish, and more, lovely coral. Both days, our dives were led by Michael who is a total sweetheart. He's super-chill, very clear in his instructions, doesn't rush you, and was just a pleasure to have as a dive master. Aqua was our captain (both days) and was also great at giving additional information on the various dive sites, given his own experience leading groups on dives. I've only dived with Low Key while down on St. John and, honestly, they'll continue to be my go-to down there. I've always thought the dive masters have been so nice and professional and I couldn't recommend them more. I can't wait to come down to St. John, again, and hopefully fit in another night dive, this time!
Shop personnel were very friendly. All equipment needed was available and in good condition. We weren’t expecting much from the dives knowing the coral and sea life took a beating with 2 hurricanes. We saw about what we expected; not a lot of vibrant coral and minimal sea life. We don’t blame the dive shop for this at all. The reasons for our rating are 1) the short duration of both dives and 2) the lack of professionalism of the Dive Master (DM). Only my boyfriend, myself and another couple on the boat. All 4 experienced divers who have dived in the past year. I’ve logged over 200 non-training dives all over the world (I’m a Master Diver, Dive Master & Asst Instructor) so I know what a DM should do. Our DM, Lilliann, was a nice young lady. Her very skimpy bikini was inappropriate and the first hint of her lack of professionalism; a DM should present themselves appropriately for their position. Save the sexy for other times. That was the opinion of all 4 of us. The 1st dive was very shallow (15-26’). Lilliann was frequently way ahead of the 4 of us, with 1 diver having issues descending/clearing due to a recent cold (disclosed to DM prior to the dive). Had there been any type of “situation” she was in no position to see it or respond appropriately. She seemed more interested in her own dive experience than in her role as a PADI professional. We all surfaced after a VERY short time with approximately 2000 psi. The second dive was to a max depth of 48’ and again, very short duration with all 3 of us surfacing with about 2000 psi. (The 4th diver with ear issues skipped this dive). No safety stop which I would have recommended due to the age/weight of my boyfriend. Not strictly necessary based on depth/duration but it’s better to err on the side of caution. Overall, disappointing and would not recommend unless you can have the crew take you to more interesting locations, and make your expectations clear for bottom time. Would certainly recommend a more professional and aware DM for less experienced divers.
Low Key is a fantastic dive operation. Absolutely full service with attentive scuba pros who lead the dives. Fortunate today to go to French Cap with Andre and Aqua!
We had a fantastic time, we had two divers and four snorkelers in our group. Our guides Micheal and Lilian were knowledgeable about the areas, experienced divers and accommodating to not only our group but to everyone else on board. The Captain was very helpful navigating the waters and kept his eye on all of us during our trip. We saw a lot of fish, sea turtles and other sea creatures. Would recommend this trip to others.
One of the best and beautiful dive operations I have done and I've done a lot. Boats leave right from the beach right in front of the shop, crew is crazy helpful and knowledgeable and protective without being overly protective. 1 person in our group of 6 had clearing issues and the divemaster stayed with him and still got us a good dive. Cow and Calf are still two of the best dives
Fabulous dive today with an excellent and professional crew of Acua, Michael and Jack!! Went to French Cap. 300 ft visibility. Minimal current. Reefs sharks that revisited us throughout the dive. Glorious watching them travel through the soft corals. No danger. Just sheer beauty. Also a nurse shark. Queen Angel fish. 2nd dive at Cow was Zen. Wonderful swim throughs with lobster, glassy sweepers, and entertaining bar jack hitting schools os silver sides. Just wonderful day. Only thing better would have been 2 dives at French Cap! Thanks to a GREAT crew!
STAFF AND CREW WERE FRIENDLY. CREW ON THE BOAT WERE THE “A TEAM”. THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE DIVE DUE TO THE WEATHER. THE FIRST DIVE WENT WELL, AT 45’ THE VISIBILITY WASN’T TOO BAD. THE NEXT DRIVE THEY TOOK US TO A SITE THAT WE WENT 15’ MAX. THAT WAS MORE LIKE SNORKELING! DIND’T SEE A THING, INCLUDING THE DM, IT WAS LIKE A WHITE OUT. I WISH THE CREW HAD MADE THE DECISION TO STAY AT THE FIRST SITE. AS A SAFTY CONCERN, DUE TO THE VISIBILITY, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE THE DM. THANKFULLY THERE WAS ANOTHER DIVER THAT WAS NEXT TO ME THE WHOLE TIME. WE KEPT PUTTING OUR HANDS UP QUESTIONING WHERE SHE WAS. BECAUSE WE WERE AT 5-15’ IT WASN’T A HUGE CONCERN, JUST FRUSTRATING, ANNOYING AND A WASTE OF $ AND TIME. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I’VE HAD TO COME UP ON MY OWN 100’ AWAY FROM THE BOAT, AND SHE WAS ALREADY ON THE BOAT.
If your remotely thinking about scuba diving this is the place to do it. From beginner to master diver I feel they work with you to have the best experience. I've been fortunate to have dived with them several times over the last 5 years and never had less than a wonderful time. The whole operation is run very well, dependable, good equipment and customer friendly. I attached a photo of my most recent dive log. Although there were 12 people diving they broke it up into small groups so you could easily explore what you wanted to see. They just make it easy to have a great experience. Captain and crew get the highest marks.
great dives. Michael —the dive master — chose good spots and was an excellent leader/guide. Kudos to him and the dive shop.
This was easy diving. Reserving, checking in, getting on the boat, and diving was so easy. Our dive guide made sure we had great experiences. The crew took care of all the gear and all we had to do was enjoy. I highly recommend diving with Low Key.
I can't recommend this place highly enough. Extremely professional, but also friendly and caring. Left you with the feeling that everyone is in and no one is out. The captains chose the dive sites carefully for safety as well as our enjoyment. Loved every minute and my husband and I will be back!
Excellent dive operation. Spent the two tank morning dive with Emma. Nice Newton boats get you to the dive sites quickly. Fast and plenty of space on board
My husband and I did a night dive and a morning 2-dive package with Low Key in mid-January. Everyone that worked with us, from the boat driver to the dive instructors, was friendly, competent, and committed to making sure we had a great experience. The boat and equipment are all in fantastic shape. I appreciated that the sites for the dives were chosen the morning of, as we had great weather for our morning dives and were able to go to an excellent spot that they don't usually use. It was neat diving while sharks swam with us! I would absolutely use Low Key again for diving!
Top rate this dive organization. 3days of diving was not really enough. Andre, Serenity and Aqua are the A team. Awesome that we got to dive with them all. The team knows the sites and knows the fish. Highly recommend. We will be back.
Low Key took my daughter, her boyfriend, and me on an afternoon two tank dive. My daughter and I, while both experienced divers, hadn't dove for over five years, so we needed a refresher, while her boyfriend was diving for the first time on a discover scuba course. The staff at Low Key did an exception job of tailoring our trip to our respective levels of skill and experience while ensuring we all shared in the highlights of the dive sites. We all agreed it was a great experience.
My family (some divers, some snorkle) had a great time on our morning two tank trip. The dive sites off of greater st James were spectacular and the crew were excellent. Our dive master had great trips on ear clearing and keeping the goggles clear and other items. I’ve done dozens of carribean dive trips and this one was near the top.
This was my first dive after getting certified. I was more than nervous. The dive instructor was amazing and reassuring. I completed the dive and was so happy with the whole experience. It was gorgeous and I felt so comfortable. Can’t wait to be back and dive again with Low Key!
