Captain Ron was an amazing captan with a ton of knowledge about St. John. He went above and beyond to make my friends 50th birthday a memory she will forever cherish. The sea conditions outside the bay were pretty rough but he was able to navigate us through with ease. This company is all about customer service and providing an experience unlike any other. I have used many private charter companies here and Island Roots will be forever my go to. Already planning for next year!!!

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Island Roots Charters and our fantastic captain Troy! Many people recommended this company so wanted to follow up and say thank you! We ended up extending our day to navigate up to the Sound and throughout VG, Tortola, Saba Rock and the Baths. It was the perfect non-scheduled day! Troy provided a smooth ride and navigated through some heavy rain patches with ease! He also took us to the perfect spots! Bitter End Yacht Club, Nova at Oil Nut Bay for lunch , Saba Rock, and Foxys! Family friendly bar crawl just as requested! Highly recommended Island Roots from start to finish!

Jason was very accommodating and helpful in booking. He came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Captain Ivan was an excellent tour guide on top of a great captain. The process was as easy as the boat ride.

This is our 2nd boat day trip this year using Island Roots and we highly recommend them. We had Captain Ryan and he was great!! (Last trip we had Captain Max and he was also fantastic!!). He was so accommodating and helpful. We had some ideas where we wanted to go and he helped us fill in the gaps with suggestions to make the trip so fun and memorable. The boats were very well maintained, clean and very comfortable. We had an absolute blast and will, without a doubt, use them again.

FamIsMyJam had an AMAZING time on the boat with our incredible tour guide Enzo. He brought us to a 20ft and 30ft cliff jump, had us snorkel with turtles and beautiful fish located throughout the island, and brought us to the most fun swim-up pizza restaurant for lunch. All in all, we had such a fun Saturday with Island Roots and of course, Enzo. #FunSaturday #FamIsMyJam

We had the best day on the water with Troy! He was great, made sure we did all of the things on our bucket list!! Made it to The Baths! A quick stop at sandy spit, lunch at Scrubb island! I would highly recommend!!

My husband and I booked the sunset cruise. Our captain Troy was able to pick us up right on the beach at our resort. He was very knowledgeable about the islands, their history and all of the interesting sites in the area. The boat was great and we couldn’t have asked for a better trip. We would recommend these guys to anyone for sure.

Ivan did provided our group with a phenomenal boating excursion! This was some of our groups first foray into snorkeling and he delivered an amazing experience! We did three snorkeling stops, an excellent pizza boat dinner stop and an absolutely stunning sunset photo op ! Ivan was informative, funny and super helpful with any assistance or questions we had! He had reached out to us as soon as we had booked the trip to determine our needs and did the same upon pickup - which made it feel more intimate and tailored to our groups desires. We had such an amazing time with Capt Ivan on a sunset cruise. He is the perfect mix of helpful, informative and fun. Best adventure of this vacation so far. Pizzi pi for dinner was awesome! How do they make pizza better than anyone at home on a boat??!! A large eagle ray breached the water beside the boat while we were getting our food. Wow!! Ivan was so helpful with our beginning snorkelers. He helped us find the turtles at Maho and snuck in as much water time as possible. Highly recommend Ivan and Island Roots. Sunset cruise was amazing but I would definitely do a full day!

The best thing we did on the island. We booked the first day upon arrival with Captain Max. He was fantastic with our kids and made it a great way to kickoff the trip. In fact, we loved it so much we booked again to close out our trip with Captain Ivan. He went above and beyond to make our last night memorable. Thank you!!!

Island Roots Charters and Captain Troy are both top notch! The charter company is very flexible with working around weather conditions and any changes you need to make. They want you to have an amazing experience and will do whatever it takes to ensure that happens. Captain Troy was an excellent tour guide and took us to many spots that we would have never known about. He listened to what things we enjoyed doing and planned an excellent day for us. He was high energy and a lot of fun, too. I have done a charter previously with a different company and the experience was nowhere close to my experience with Island Roots. 10/10 recommend Island Roots!

We had 4 couples on the boat day, half of the group had been several times to the islands and half had not. Captain Ryan was great, made sure to plan our itinerary in the most efficient way possible with everything we were interested in. We felt like we were in great hands with him and look forward to another trip

Captain Max was great and provided us with an awesome day. Boat had plenty of room for our party of 8, and could definitely fit up to 12 as advertised. Captain made sure we got all the spots in we wanted to visit and planned accordingly with given sea conditions.

We had a great day with Captain Ryan G. He is a father and consequently was wonderful with our 5 and 7 year old daughters, they loved it. Also it was obvious that he was very experienced with maneuvering the boat around as needed. We hit all the good spots: Indians, Norman Island, Pirates Byte, Willy T, Thatch Island, Sandy Spit, and White Bay JVD. One of the highlights was a flock of flamingos at Thatch Island. Honestly no complaints whatsoever, and we would 100% book with Island Roots again! If you have young kids, request Ryan! What a great day!

Wonderful extended day to BVIs with our college kids. Capt Ryan was the absolute best! I highly recommend requesting him as your boat Capt! We asked him to plan a day with the best of the best for our kiddos’ first time. He planned the perfect day! Soggy Dollar, Willy T’s and excellent some snorkeling spots. We even saw the sun setting on our way in that included a rainbow. It was all together wonderful. The kids said it was their favorite day of the trip!

We highly recommend Island Roots! Capt Ryan did an amazing job driving us around in the USVI and BVI. He is a highly experienced Captain and knows the area. Always focused on safety and sharing his knowledge of the local islands.

Capt. Ryan Granger was amazing! He was so fun and had so much knowledge on the islands and took us to all the best snorkeling spots and of course the taco bar! It was such a great day! Would recommend Island Roots Charter to all!!

Jason took my wife and I around St. John for an awesome boat ride, showing us so many cool spots to snorkel that we would’ve never found if we didn’t book with Island Roots. He was kind and super knowledgeable, he consistently defogged our goggles and fixed some other issues I was having with my gear. Perfect way to finish up our honeymoon. Definitely recommend and can’t wait to book with Island Roots again.

The private charter around St. John was the highlight of our trip! Amazing sights and snorkeling while expertly avoiding any weather in the area. We will be back and we will do multiple excursions!

The golden hours tour with captain nick was the highlight of our trip! We went to two snorkel spots and saw tons of fish and starfish. We were even able to snag a last minute pizza from the pizza pi boat!! Would definitely be using island root charters and captain nick on our next trip!

Captain Jason was great! Booking was easy, meeting him on the day of the trip was easy. He made the trip fun for everyone! Great snorkel, good pizza and an amazing sunset! Boat was clean and very comfortable. Could not have been better.

We booked our the Golden Hours sunset cruise for the first full day of our visit to StJohn. It was a great way to see the island and get our bearings for the week ahead. Captain Ryan was a terrific guide and provided a lot of knowledge and insight about STJ like only a local can. Pizzapi was delicious and the owners are wonderful people. Enjoyed eating our slice of pizza while watching the breathtaking sunset. A great start to our week in paradise!

Our family of seven's private Sunset Cruise with Captain Ryan Granger was a highlight of our recent trip to St. John. The boat is clean and comfortable, and Ryan had everything on hand (snorkel gear, iced down waters, a nice speaker system to play our music, even a book on reef fish for our snorkeling enthusiasts) to make for a wonderful evening. Ryan tailored the outing to our tastes, bringing us to two great snorkeling spots (including one where we spotted our first sea turtle!) and a deserted island with two options for cliff jumping for my 25-year-old son (who caught the bug after jumping at Cleetwood Cove in Crater Lake NP last year). He pointed out wild goats on another deserted island as well as other points of interest, such as the abandoned Caneel Bay Resort and Lovango. As a long-time resident, Ryan was knowledgeable about life on St. John and a friendly conversationalist. He texted early the morning of our excursion asking about our dinner preferences so he could place an order with Pizza Pi early in the day. We met up with that boat around 5:45 and enjoyed a great pizza dinner on the water. We spent the last 30 minutes or so of our time cruising through the Caribbean with fantastic sunset views. We would do this again, and if we'd had more time we would've done a full day tour with Island Roots as well. Highly recommend!

Been to several islands and done several charters, including others in St. John but our trip this time with Island Roots was one of the best experiences we’ve had on the water. We did a half day snorkel/sunset that actually picked us up in St Thomas since we were going to ferry over to St John anyways. Captain Jason called us before hand and was super accommodating with the logistics. Captain Ryan was right on time and made us and our teenage daughters feel like VIPs. The boat was fairly new and in excellent condition. Captain Ryan took us to an amazing snorkel spot we had to ourselves and was very informative about the area and the marine life. He then took us to Pizza Pi and timed the sunset perfectly. Truly the highlight of our trip. Can’t wait to book again with Jason and Ryan and Island Roots.

What a great time on the ocean with our captain Jason. We opted for the golden hours cruise, the craft was spotless, our little guy loved his first experience on a boat, we snorkeled, had pizza at Pizza Pi while on our cruise which was very cool and then anchored for a spectacular sunset. A terrific time, just enough time that fit into our day and wonderful customer service. Highly recommend.

This was our second time doing a Golden Hours tour with Island Roots Charters. I can not recommend them enough. Captain Ryan is a super nice down to earth guy. He was very knowledgeable about places to snorkel and what you may see at those locations. We stopped by several snorkeling locations and also took the opportunity to stop for pizza at Pizza Pi VI and the pizza was so good. Definitely recommend adding this if you can. There where plenty of pool noodles available if needed, water and snorkel gear (we had our own so didn’t need to use). He took a sunset group pic of our family so that we could all be in the photo and somehow managed to remember our names. This is a great way to see spots on Island that you otherwise may not. For our second year in a row visiting St. John, we booked two trips with Captain Max and Island Roots (one at sunset, and one all day). Max was attentive to all our wishes - snorkeling, visiting secluded beaches, playing great tunes and hitting up both Lime Out and Pizza Pi. The boat was also spacious, super comfortable and very clean. Highly recommend Island Roots for a day on the water that is well worth every penny. Thank you and we will be back!

We did a sunset cruise with Max...actually 2 sunset cruises during our two week stay on St. John. The first outing was 4 couples. We had a great tour of the North Shore and then headed over to Christmas Cove to have pizza at Pizza Pi and watch the sunset. It was a great afternoon. There was a "North Swell" that day but Max handled the boat wonderfully and we felt secure the entire time. Our second week was with our Adult Children...5 of us on the boat. We did a similar itinerary and had a great time. Everyone had a wonderful time. We all enjoyed Max's company and stories of the islands.

Our family had a wonderful time on the Golden Hours charter. We had children ranging from 1- 8 years old, and Alex made sure we all felt safe and comfortable. We got to enjoy a great snorkel spot, hear some interesting stories about the island and surrounding areas, and of course enjoy a beautiful St. John sunset.

Ryan from Island Roots was a great guide and experienced captain. He took our family to a great snorkeling spot and then guided us to some neat sites around the island. Ryan was personable and knowlegable. Highly recommend.

We’ve used Island Roots the last two times we visited STJ! In September, I booked for a group of 5 and in November a group of 9. Both trips were amazing and we had the best time. The trips were customized for our preferences for each trip. Can’t wait to come back and book again.

Had the absolute best time on our sunset charter! The boat was extremely comfortable and our captain Max customized the pit stops based on what we wanted to see and do. He was super knowledgeable about the islands, gave us the histories of all the beaches we visited, and helped us find sea turtles to swim with before the sun went down. It was one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever been to, and to experience it from a comfy couch in the middle of the bay at peak sunset was an experience I’ll never forget. Could not recommend these folks more highly!

My family of 9 were looking for a boat that would pick us up after hiking the Reef Bay trail and Island Roots fit the bill. They were in contact with us the morning of the trip and that really put our minds at ease. Captain Ryan picked us up from Reef bay beach after our hike and loaded us all on and then we headed to snorkel for a little bit. After that he set us up right in line with the setting sun for the most amazing sunset. We captured this picture of a sailboat in the distance and as beautiful as the picture is, It looked 1000 times more amazing in person. I can not say enough amazing things about Captain Ryan either! 1) He put up with all 9 of us (2 being children) lol 2) Very knowledgeable about St John 3) Willing to bring us just about anywhere we wanted to go If you are looking for a personalized boot charter in St John look no further. My family of 4 went on the golden hours cruise with Captain Jason. It was a wonderful experience! Captain Jason was born on the island and shared a wealth of knowledge and helpful tips. We went on our first day and doing this was helpful as we explored the island the rest of the week. We rode around the island, went snorkeling and watched a beautiful sunset. I would highly recommend this company and this experience. You won’t regret it!

Easy to find and charter was right on time. It was an amazing night weather-wise and our captain Max did a great job customizing our time on the water. We were done with the snorkeling as this was the end of our trip, but Max took us to some cool out of the way places and let us off at a secluded beach to sip champagne and get some great snapshots of a gorgeous sunset. Could not have been more pleased. It was fun to be able to play my tunes on the boat while we were cruising around. Nice touch. Would definitely book again on next trip. We had a great time on the boat! We got tacos and a drink at Lime Out (fun and delicious!), jumped in the water and swam at a beautiful beach, and had fun just being on the water. Boat captain was friendly, listened to our requests, and offered his own suggestions. Would definitely do it again!

We took a private sunset boat charter during "the golden hours" in July and had a fantastic time. Captain Ryan was awesome. Attentive, personable, and going out of his way to make sure we were all happy. We are Westin owners, experienced with the island, snorkelling spots and we've taken several charters in the past. We'd definitely do this trip again. The boat was clean and lovely, the price was reasonable. They even texted us early in the day with a menu for Pizza Pi as they ordered very early to assure they had food for us when we arrived. Great service, excellent time. Highly recommend.

Had a great time. Max was a very good guide for us that did his job well and put everyone at ease. Did a few snorkling spots, a little sight seeing and then pizza from Pizza Pi and watched a great sunset. Very good communication on the day of the trip. Easy pay and reciept transaction. No glitches.

In July 14, 2021 we went on the Golden Hours charter with Max as our captain and I cannot say enough positive things about it! We were in the best of hands with Max...he was awesome. He brought us to great snorkeling spots, taught us things we didn’t know about the island and area (first timers), brought us to Pizza Pi, had the tunes going, wind in our hair...all magic. Island Roots got right back to me when we were booking this and answered all of my questions (we split this with another family) and made it so easy. Max was so personable and down to earth, a great guy. I’m sure he’s made this trip hundreds of times but it seemed as special and he was just as into it as if it were his first time being there. We didn’t want it to end. This charter was one of the highlights of our trip and I wholeheartedly recommend using this charter company, you will have a blast!!!

It was amazing! It was so much more than a beautiful sunset…. Our captain was in tune to our family and took us snorkeling and cliff jumping (which was the highlight of our teens’ trip to St John). There were 7 of us (5 teens:2 adults). He let the kids listen to their playlist and we all had hours of smiles and laughter! This is an excursion you don’t want to miss! We have a boat back home, but this was so much more… a perfect way to see ST John and St Thomas! Thank you captain for the wonderful memories! We will be back- you guys are awesome!

We and our kids 6,3 and 10 month had a blast. Captain Rick tailored the program in a way that everyone enjoyed it: snorkeling, lonely beaches some speed riding and a romantic sunset. Thanks a lot, we absolutely enjoyed it.
