Excellent tour, recommend for anyone interested in the history. Very knowledgeable, friendly and informative.
Toni did an excellent job. His in-depth knowledge and portfolio of sketches made the complex history of the palace and surrounding area come alive. Easily a five star review!
If you visit Split and want a dynamic, historical tour of Diocletian’s Palace in two hours, this tour is for you! I am so glad I happened upon this small group tour with a Magistrar of History, Toni. This is not a boring run-of-the mill group tour. There were only eight of us on the tour, and he really made the heart and history of this city come alive. His knowledge and passion is evident in all his stories, and the visuals he created of what things looked like back in the third century were so cool. You really shouldn’t visit Split without taking this tour with Toni. It is a must-do.
Toni provided a fantastic tour experience and was a wealth of knowledge. This tour is one of the best tours we have ever taken.
Great tour! Guide was very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating . Highly recommend!

Toni was an excellent guide, giving us an overview of Split’s history from beginning to present, showing us relevant spaces and buildings to represent the historical narrative. Answered our questions well, excellent English with a lovely accent. Offered advice and experiences. Shared his personal background, connecting us to present-day life in Split and Croatia. Managed our pace well, we had time to linger, not hurried. Very worthwhile.
Our tour guide, Mili, was excellent! He shared his vast knowledge of Split Old Town in a humorous and engaging way! We highly recommend Viator for the walking tour of Split Old Town.

Toni is an excellent guide. He was very informative and made the tour very interesting. Tony was recommended by my daughter who was on a tour in July, and he did not disappoint. Would highly recommend this tour.
Toni was excellent, the tour was really interesting and so well paced. There were points to stop, have a sit and refill water bottles. The tour uses a headset system so the audio is very easy to hear despite some of the areas being very busy.
The tour was very interesting and our guide Mili was excellent … definitely found more interesting places with the tour .. rather than going it alone ..
Toni is an excellent guide, his passion for history shines through and I appreciated the renditions he provided of the palace.
We would absolutely recommend the ‘Split Small Group walking tour with Magister of History’. Our tour was led by Toni who is a likeable and considerate host. He is a very knowledgeable historian and he communicated the complex history of Split, its occupants and the story of Croatia through the architecture of the Diocletian Palace in a warm and engaging way. The small group tour size made it possible to stand near to Toni and engage as a group which made the tour more personal and manageable in the narrow streets than some of the very large groups would experience. Meeting before and audio earpieces were excellent too. Would recommend and would do it again. Thanks Toni
Toni was a wonderful guide, energetic and full of interesting stories. We loved being part of a small group; much more personal and engaging. We learned a lot!
Toni was a very knowledgeable and well equipped tour guide. He made an already interesting topic even more interesting and engaging.
Tony was an amazing guide who gave us wonderful information and history. He always made sure everyone was ready and could hear. We both thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Split and would recommend this tour.
Toni was an excellent guide and we learned so much about the Palace, the history of Croatia, and the ruling influences throughout the centuries that shaped the region’s food, language and architecture. Highly recommend!
I did this at the end of my trip as I had explored the palace but wanted to know the history behind it, and this tour was perfect!! Definitely worth booking if you are visiting Split❤️
Toni was extremely knowledgeable and encouraged lots of questions to make sure the tour included information on what folks were interested in. There’s so much amazing history in Split and the tour helped us appreciate everything we were seeing and the multi-cultural influences of the language and food.
Toni is a great guide, and loved the historical discussion of Diocletian’s Palace and all the small details that were highlighted as we walked through Split - I highly recommend!

Toni was absolutely brilliant. Relatable, knowledgeable and interesting. Highly recommended.
Very thorough and well organized tour. Tony was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot and had fun too! This tour had a bit of everything. Ancient history, modern history and present day. Great walking tour! Highly recommend to get a really thorough history of split!
We had the absolute best time learning the history of Split from Toni! We booked our tour last minute and are so thankful we did! I don’t usually take time to write reviews but I truly had the best time. The value of the tour is incredible. A local with an education and experience in teaching history, not only was Toni an expert guide but he was engaging and easy to follow along with. After our tour we had lunch and spent the entire time talking about all we learned and would have missed if we had walked around on our own. Absolutely a must to tour with Toni and learn about all the historical details in Diocletian’s Palace.
Toni & Mili made joining the tour very easy with clear WhatsApp guidance on how to find. Toni shared earpieces, and with his excellent English, ensured his commentary was clear & straightforward to follow. His knowledge of Roman and more recent Split history made for an engaging & very interesting tour.
Wonderful information provided and easy to understand with the ear pods we were given Passionate guide and Tony was the best ! Enjoyed every minute
Tony was amazing, bringing the history of the palace in particular and of Croatia in general to life. One of the best tour guides I’ve ever had!
There are lots of steps and uneven surfaces in Old Town. If you have balance problems or walking issues I would not recommend it
Excellent walking tour of the old town and the history of the palace. Toni pointed out so many bits you don't notice when you walk through yourself. And a great summary of various historical phases the town went through right upto the 2000s
Don’t hesitate! Click now to join this incredible tour with Toni (a former history teacher). He is entertaining and such a well informed “born and raised in Split” expert. Just beyond kind. Thank you for helping us acquaint ourselves with the wonderful town of Split!
Amazing tour. Toni is a font of knowledge. Tour was well planned and orchestrated- he managed to give out so much useful information in the short space of time.
I did two walking tours in Split - both were meant to have a focus on history - this was the best of the two. If you’re interested in history this is the one for you! I did the other one first and although it had good general information I didn’t feel as though I learnt enough about history, so I did this one and was happier with the experience. I really enjoyed the images (computer drawings) showing how things may have been in the past as well as the verbal information shared. The tour was well paced and the guide spoke clearly and was happy to answer questions.
