Excellent tour. It was full of history, anecdotes and fun facts. Jocko was very personable and enthusiastic. The time passed too quickly.

Excellent tour. We learned so much about what we were seeing that we would have otherwise overlooked or never knew. Vital to truly enjoy Split. Highly recommend.
Excellent tour. We learned so much. Touring without learning what we did on this tour would be like having 4/5 senses removed while here. I reccommend!
At first we declined the offer for the Diocletian tour… that would have been a big mistake😀 Instead, Joško taught us everything there is to know about Split/Croatian history and culture! There is no way we would have understood that the Palace is the city without his guidance and insight. After the tour, it was quite easy to navigate all of what Split has to offer. Not only did Joško, remind us about ancient building techniques, arches, domes, aqueducts, he knew more about American History than we did😀
Our guide Josko was v knowledgeable with excellent English. He was v funny & personable & a great host. Highly recommended 😊😊
Josko was so knowledgeable and the your was amazing it was great to learn about the place and about split in general. would recommend to all people visiting split
We were approached by Josko as we entered the Palace asking if we would be interested in the tour and we are so glad he did. His knowledge, not only of the palace, but the history of Split and Croatia was fantastic. He advised us at the beginning of the tour that it would be approximately 1.5 hours long but due to his attention to detail - showing us sections of the palace we might ordinarily have missed - it was just over 2 hours. Excellent value for money. Josko was very friendly and welcoming. We paid extra to view the basements and he accompanied us with his wealth of knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it.
Josef was a wealth of knowledge, but he provided it in a friendly and well-paced fashion, so you didn’t feel inundated. His English was very good, so he was easy to understand.
Josip's tour is a must do for those looking to learn the history of Diocletian 's Palace and the people of Croatia. Josip is knowledgeable, engaging and full of facts and stories that bring the Palace to life. Do not miss this chance to learn and enjoy while visiting Split.
Josko was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He was responsive to questions and planning the outing. I would highly recommend him for your Split tour!
Our tour guide, Daniela, was extremely knowledgeable and shared countless fascinating historical facts and anecdotes with us. She wisely began the tour in the Palace Cellars, where she vividly explained what Diocletian’s Palace looked like in 305 AD, when the emperor retired and moved there as his summer residence. By the time we finished exploring the cellars, the unbearable cruise-ship crowds had moved on, allowing us to fully appreciate the palace buildings without having to fight our way through hordes of cruise tourists. It made the rest of the tour so much more enjoyable and gave us the chance to truly take in this remarkable historic site. We have already recommended this tour and Daniela to our friends who are currently planning their Croatia vacation.
Our tour guide, Daniela, was absolutely fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable, shared a multitude of stories and anecdotes with us, and made the history of the Diocletian Palace very easy to digest. She started the tour in the Palace cellars, which are almost perfectly preserved to this day, allowing us to see what the palace looked like in 305 AD. It was a great way to begin this tour, allowing us to wait out the cruise crowds. We already have recommended this tour and Daniela to friends planning a trip to Split.
“Joe” gave a well thought out tour in which we were always engaged, including my 16yo son. So much historical context but also plenty of insights into current day Croatian life.
Our guide Josko was outstanding. He made our tour come alive. His love of Croatia, Split & the Palace, was obvious. His knowledge was exceptional.
Josko was an excellent guide of the Diocletian Palace. We also learned so much about Croatia and the town of Split. I would highly recommend him.
Such a lovely way to learn about and see the Diocletian's Palace. Josko was a fantastic guide - very friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of fun facts and photos and stops along the way!
My friend and I recently visited the Palace and had the pleasure of being guided by Joško. Joško was extremely knowledgeable and brought the history of the Palace to life. As a 13th-generation Croatian who lived through the war of the 1990s, he was able to provide both historical facts and personal insights that made the tour especially meaningful. He is a very pleasant, personable, and engaging guide with a genuine passion for the history of the Palace. He explained the story of the Emperor, the construction of the Palace, the materials used, and what daily life was like there centuries ago. He also spoke about the damage the Palace suffered during the war and the efforts made to preserve this remarkable historical site. I would highly recommend Joško to anyone planning a tour of the Palace. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and personal connection to the history make for a truly memorable experience. Enjoy! An outstanding tour. Very informative and great value for money. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable, making history come alive and maintaining interest for 2.5 hours that seemed to pass so quickly.
Joe is so knowledgeable and fun!
Jo is incredibly knowledgeable about the city and made the whole experience so much fun! Our friend and I had a great time. He made the museum much more interesting, without him, we would never have known the history behind everything we saw.
Wonderful tour of the palace and museum. Daniela was charming and insightful. We were very lucky to have her as our guide. We also loved the history of Split and Croatia overall. Must do tour. Paul and lucy
We had a fantastic time on our tour. So much history in a two hour period! Personable, kind, happy to answer all of our questions.
Excellent local with a lot of history and culture. Highly recommended.
Joe was an excellent tour guide! Very knowledgeable and explained things in an interesting way. We did a private tour, just my daughter and myself. Well worth the $. Highly recommend!
Josko was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and engaging. He made the palace complex come alive. We had plenty of time to ask questions and never felt rushed. Our group of four learned so much about the Palace, but also Split, Dalmatian and Croatian history and culture. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing tour with Josip!! He was incredibly informative and engaging, explaining things with so much energy and clarity. He was very accommodating and even stayed for a little while after to tour to give us very moving anecdotes about his personal life. Highly recommend!!
I had an amazing experience with Josko! He took me to a bunch of places I would have missed otherwise. I highly recommend Split in the off-season: we were essentially alone in Diocletian’s palace
We had an absolute blast with Joško. He went above and beyond to get us some great photos and teach us the history of a beautiful city. Highly recommend taking this tour if you are looking for one!
Joško was a well knowledged guide who took us on an amazing historic tour of the city. He even went above and beyond to make sure we got all the stops in and got us some wonderful pictures.
Daniela’s detailed explanation of the history of Dalmatia and Split was very interesting and informative. Her knowledge of Diocletian’s Palace was impressive, and she brought the palace to life through her delivery. It was a pleasure to hear about Split from a native!
It was a chance encounter to meet Josko as our guide for the Emperor’s Walking Tour …and we could not have been luckier! Josko blends his historical knowledge with humour and his Croatian kindness. We learned so many wonderful facts but will mostly remember the joyful way that the information was presented to us ! We have already recommended Josko as a guide to several travelling friends and hope we enjoy his stories the next time we visit Split from our home in Toronto.
We had an absolutely outstanding time with Josko on this incredible tour. He is immensely knowledgeable about the history and culture of Split and was able to reveal the layers of history to us in such an artful way. We learned so much and are still talking about everything we saw and learned. This was such a powerful investment that enhanced our understanding of history and of this incredibly beautiful city. I can't say enough good things about how incredible this tour was for us. It helped us get the lay of the land, oriented us to the palace complex, revealed the history in a simple and straightforward but very memorable way, and actually made us want to come back to Split to spend more time in the city. Thanks, Josko, for sharing your knowledge and your time with us. It was one of the highlights of our entire vacation!
Josko Zovic was a PERFECT guide! …..only delivered interesting information. Brought the history to life and had a nice sense of humor. When we were finished we felt like we had seen all the hidden jewels of the Split. Would do this tour again.
Daniela was knowledgeable, thoughtful and charming. One of our party is currently struggling a bit with mobility and she caterers for this very sensitively. It also meant the walk took longer and we overran. She was very generous with her time. This was a real highlight of our trip.
Josko/ Joe was a fantastic tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about history and was able to explain things in ways that made the tour interesting and easy to understand. He was patient with our questions and added a lot of extra insights about the palace and surrounding areas. Great story teller! After the tour he also gave us a great recommendation for dinner which was excellent too. Highly recommend the tour. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
Daniela was fantastic!! Really informative. We were really lucky and there were only 6 of us on the tour. We pasted many other tours that were 20 people up. Two cruise ships were in town. So that might be why the other tours had so many. I would definitely recommend this one!
Very nice and knowledgable guide, interesting tour of palace with great stories of the palace history and the location in general
This is an excellent tour and highly recommend it. Josko is a great tour guide, knowledgeable about the history of the place. We loved his sense of humor
What a wonderful tour ! Joško was the first stop that we made in Split and we are so glad it was. He took us for a fun tour around the castle and old city that was informative but so engaging. Plus he has a great sense of humour ! We were so amazed with all of the information we learned that it made sightseeing on our own that much better. We have more family coming and we will be using Jošio again. Thanks !
Our tour of the Dioclesian’s palace with Joe was incredible. So much history, architecture, and culture in such a small space. If you don’t take this tour, you wander around the winding streets walking right by the treasures! Joe is a font of information and has a great sense of humor! We loved it!
Our walking tour was lead by Joseph, a local tour guide, who provided an excellent historical overview of Split. Joseph is highly knowledgeable of the history of this part of the world. Joseph has a contagious passion for history, from the story of the Diocletian Palace, Ancient Rome, the Venetians, the Napoleonic years, the Austo- Hungarians, WW2 to the communist era. We were absolutely delighted with this tour. The combination of Joseph’s knowledge, humour and passion is second to none. My wife and I highly recommend Joseph as your tour guide of the Diocletian palace.
This was an absolutely fantastic tour that brought the whole thing to life for us. There were four of us in our group and each and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it. The pace was great, the amount of information shared was perfect and we left the tour feeling that we had gained so much understanding of that part of the city that we wouldn’t otherwise have had. We would all thoroughly recommend it. Thanks Josko, you are the perfect guide with a great sense of humour.
Wonderful tour guide. Very informative. Makes the history come to life. Very knowledgeable about both the history and architecture of the palace. Highly recommended.
Booked private tour for four. Joko was an excellent guide. He was passionate, entertaining, and knowledgeable and shared some of his theories about historical events/people. Appreciated his restaurant recommendations as well.
Our guide was exceptional! Kept history fun, engaging and intriguing. It was worth learning of Split’s ancient history. FYI the emperor’s speech occurs at noon every day in the square.
Our guide Josko was the best tour guide we have ever had with Viator. Knowledgeable, kind, thorough, and funny. We had a time constraint to get back to our cruise ship and he made sure he fit as much as possible into the time we had. We had toured the palace before, came away with a much better appreciation and knowledge of the site. Josko, has a tremendous amount of information that he was able to provide and was easy to understand.
Great tour with Joska! Loads of historical info, with a passion for his city-really friendly- thank you!
Daniela was well-versed and passionate about the unique and historical significance of the area. The tour was thorough; it didn’t feel rushed. She had a great sense of humor that made this tour memorable. We would highly recommend!
Josip (or Joseph, as we called him) was very knowledgeable and made the tour entertaining as well as informative. We learned much more about Split history than we could have on our own and thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
Excellent from start to finish. Factual, entertaining, responsive. Highly recommended with our guide Jo.
