This walking tour was beyod worth the price, and was honestly the highlight of our trip to Croatia. Our guide was Stella, a Split native that we can't recommend enough: she was respectful & kind, witty & irreverent, and created a relaxed atmosphere while she presented facts and information that a guidebook or website could never fully contain. The hour and a half really flew by, it was so interesting & informative. There were only about nine of us in the group (my partner and I, and a small group of sweet Danish gals), so it was easy to stick together and hear Stella's information. I'd recommend this to anyone- going solo, with a partner, or a small group. The pride with which she spoke of her culture and country was truly impressive, and at the end she gave us recommendations for great local dishes & restaurants to try, tourist traps to avoid, and how to make the most of our trip to Croatia. I have traveled extensively, and have always been reticent about guided tours, but upon the urging of my partner, I gave in and am absolutely reformed in my tour avoidance.
Anton was the best guide! Funny, brought history to life, and his English was outstanding.
We had a great tour with Blue Umbrella Tours - highly recommend this walking tour to anyone with our local guide
Antoe (guide) was very knowledgable and added some good stories for color. Answered all questions asked by the group. Highly recommend booking with Antoe
Our guide was lots of fun and very knowledgeable. We moved at a quick pace which meant we could cover a lot of ground. The tour was only 8 people which made it much more enjoyable than being part of a large herd. We went back later on our own to wander the streets, after having a good introduction with the tour.
A great tour to start our visit to Split Brilliant and funny tour guide Lots of interesting information
We went on a tour with Stella, who was a funny humorous guide, who interacted a lot. Would prefer a tour a bit longer and with a few more local stories, but totally would recommend do go with Stella.
The tour offers a wonderful historical perspective including dates, leaders, religious figures. My guide Stela was great and offered many suggestions upon the conclusion of our tour. She has a great sense of humor and incorporates it into her tour mahalo ( thank you)
Tour guide was well versed in the history and do a wonderful job answering questions beyond the usual script of the tour itself. Quick tour, but you see it all!
Fun and educational. Really enjoyed our guide.
Our family of four, including two teenagers, thoroughly enjoyed this 90 minute walking tour of Split Old Town. It was a small group with only seven people, which made the experience feel much more personal. Our guide, Slavko, was outstanding - passionate, energetic and incredibly knowledgeable. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he kept all of us, including our teenagers, engaged from start to finish. The 90 minute duration was just right. We explored the fascinating streets and public areas within Diocletian's Palace while learning about Emperor Diocletian, the palace's colourful past and how it has evolved into the vibrant heart of modern Split. If you're looking for an engaging introduction to Split and its remarkable heritage, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour. Thank you, Slavko, for making it such a memorable experience! At the end of the tour he offered suggestions on places to eat and/or grab coffee.
Our guide had good voice projection with the crowds of tourist in the area. She made it very interesting and I feel you need a tour to have any appreciation of the palace.
Overall mixed. Guide spent 15 minutes up front providing personal opinions on the political and economic state of Croatia since adopting the Euro and issues since WWII that aren’t exactly factual, or relevant for the tour. We also stood in the same spot by the Golden Gate for the first 30 minutes, and moved a few meters away to stand for another 20 minutes to listen. When we finally moved inside he was knowledgeable and I learned some good history. And through no fault of his, the collocation of so many tour guides/groups in such a small space made it difficult to concentrate. Read about the palace on Claude while touring. Hence, only three stars. Fortunately it was an inexpensive tour.
Walling tour, some steps. Knowledgeable guide w engaging demeanor. Provided extensive history and cultural context to this amazing archeological gem.
A perfect little activity to boost your understanding of the city's history. Nice and knowledgeable guide.
History based with added culture insights. Ante found all the shady spots which gave a layer of comfort on a hot day.
We recently took a 90-minute walking tour of Diocletian’s Palace and had an excellent experience. Our guide, Ante, was extremely informative, engaging, and clearly passionate about the history of Split and the palace itself. The tour was very interesting from start to finish, and we learned far more than we would have exploring on our own. It was absolutely worth the cost and a great way to experience the history and culture of the area. Highly recommended!
This was one of the best walking tours we have done. Ante was a great guide and offered a lot of historic information as he said he is a history nerd. If you want to learn about split and get off the beaten path this is the tour I would recommend
Karla was a great guide! She was very informative but not boring. I had a great time touring diocletians palace and will be taking her up on her local food recommendations!
Slavko was so fun. He had a great attitude and good local insight. Group was nice and small and he made everyone feel welcome.
Was waiting for at the meeting point waiting for the tour to start when at the time the tour was due to start (and only then) I got a notification from GetYourGuide telling me the company had cancelled. That’s so poor to leave it THAT late. The reason given was poor weather… the weather was to remain dry for at least 1-2 hours after the tour was due to finish and I see multiple guides leading groups through the old palace area. I suspect I was the only one booked on and that was the real reason they decided to cancel. The weather excuse is nonsense (what your guide can’t guide in rain anyway). Company representative I spoke to on the phone didn’t apologise once! Avoid!
We had a wonderful walking tour of Split with Slavko. He was friendly, knowledgeable and funny! There were only six of us so we had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get them answered. It was very enjoyable and inexpensive.
Great introduction to the Diocletian palace and Split. Ivanna was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The private tour is the way to go!
Our guide Ante gave us an informative and engaging overview of Diocletian Palace history from Roman times to the present day. Highly recommend this tour and the tour company.
we were lucky to get Tino for our private tour and he was great! Super informed, fun, and felt like an old friend. We learnt a lot. Highly recommend!
Tino - he was a top notch guide for our tour- 10 out of 10 for sure. . I attended today the 1 pm walking tour, outstanding guide. e
The tour guide, Karla, did a fantastic job. Not too fast and not too slow. Just perfect. She explained things very well. She gave references for lunch, etc. all around it was very nice.
This was a fantastic experience! Ante, our tour guide, was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic student of history, passionate about his hometown of Split- we learned so much!
Carla was so knowledgeable and easy to hear. She is a great tour guide. Palace is so interesting. Liked the common areas the best and the guards in costume.
We learned so much and loved exploring the old town. The only thing that would have made the tour better are the headphones to be able to hear every fact (especially in the more populated areas).
My guide was so friendly, informative and gracious. I’m so glad I did this tour. Not only did I learn so much about the palace and the history and Croatia, but it just gave me a real sense of place of where I am. A reminder that the world has been through so much and will continue long after I am gone. We need to remember past to better be present in the here and now.
Fun and informative guide, early morning tour avoided the crowds. Bring a hat, glasses or umbrella to avoid the sun.
Great tour by Slavko. Engaging and fun, but we also learned a lot! Slavko was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer questions from the group.
A nice, casual walking tour of the Palace. Ivana was very informative and knowledgeable about the Palace as she has always lived within its’ walls. 90 minutes was the perfect amount of time to see all that we wanted to see!
Exceptional. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area and times. Very organized. Note* Don’t put the meet up address into your map app. It took us to a restaurant location and we only figured out it was the wrong location last minute in time to get to the right place.
Slovak was very knowledgeable about the history of the palace. Provided many tidbits of interest beyond the history. Knows the area and there wasn’t a question asked which was not answered.
This tour was amazing - of all the tours we took over a course of 21 days our Family voted that this was the best one. Our guide I - was so personable and friendly We got a great overview of the city, palace, the inner workings of Split and places to eat gelato. It was super hot and our guide knew all the shady places to stop and give key tour points before we moved on
We got lots of information about everything the Palace has to offer! The only thing that rubbed our group the wrong way was the discouragement to visit or try many of the things the palace offers because our guide did not like their political reasonings
Excellent tour. Our guide, Ante, was fantastic! Very energetic, passionate, and knowledgeable on the history of the palace.
Enjoyed the tour. Ante did a great job! Lots of historical information-market stop to pick up water might have been a good idea or encourage participants to bring some along.
Overall good tour, guide (Tito) was knowledgable. A little hard to understand, his English was OK. He was soft spoken which was difficult for our mother to hear him as there are a lot of other tours and people in close proximity during the entire tour. Earphones (that we saw other much larger groups wearing) would have been helpful even though we paid extra for this to be a private tour for only seven people. I would very much recommend this company for a walking tour. Easy booking and payment.
Tour of Diocletian Palace with history to inform your experience. Visited all gates, highlights and basement to gain perspective
We have a great guide who maneuvered us through the maze of the palace, avoiding the crowds, and gave us many interesting facts about history, culture and architecture. Spoke perfect English.
We’ve did only the wine tasting at Diocletian’s Palace: the tasting itself was good and with interesting informations about the vines compared with the food! Our sommelier knew a lot about all topics but didn’t presented it very charming which took a bit of the atmosphere. And the value of money could be better!
We stayed inside the walls of the palace in Split, it was very interesting to hear about the history of the palace and environs. Our guide, Marino, was very friendly and knowledgeable! It was an inexpensive and interesting way to learn about the palace’s history.
Guide was very knowledgeable about this subject and took time to ensure we all were in the group before he began talking. He was very thorough.
Frane was so great! It was a small tour of just six people, which was fabulous. So glad we did this!
Very informative - learned a lot about Croatian history, not just the palace. Our guide (Marino?) was excellent, looking after us, making sure we kept out of the warm sunshine as much as possible. He was very informative and spoke confidently so it was a surprise to hear it was only his second tour.
We toured Diocletian’s palace in Split. Very informative and good orientation to our time in Split. Slavco was entertaining, engaging and knowledgeable.
