Itinerary
This 4 hour narrated tour takes us through the Black Hills to America’s Shrine of Democracy. There is a 14 minute video about the carving, the sculptor Gutzon Borglum, and workers. The Lincoln Borglum Museum has some great displays about Borglum, his family and his works, the mountain and machinery and the workers. The Presidential Trail is a gradually inclining walk that goes under the faces in the rock rubble with great spots for pictures of the individual faces. If you go further there is a strenuous walk down to the Sculptor’s Studio (open only in the summer months) then back up to the viewing terrace. The Avenue of Flags represents all 50 states and the territories, along with their respective dates of admission to the Union. There is also a new Youth Exploration area recently opened. The large gift shop has many items. The Carvers’ Café and an ice cream shop are available for refreshments.

Flo was on time, and full of knowledge of the area and of Mt Rushmore. We were encouraged to look around and enjoy the area and encouraged to view more of the beautiful surroundings. Flo was a great guide and made us feel welcomed. A beautiful day for our tour.
Nice for those who only want a half day tour. Sunny day. Ample time to visit all that Mt Rushmore has to offer at your own pace. Friendly and knowledgeable guide. Plenty of opportunities for picture taking.
My experience was wonderful. Ann, my tour guide was very informative and friendly. I learned a lot about the history of Mt Rushmore and S. Dakota in general. I felt very comfortable and safe with Ann. I am so glad that she was my tour guide.
Ann is a excellent guide. She is very knowledgeable about the history of the area as well as Mount Rushmore. On the tour of Rapid City she pointed out the statues of the presidents on the street corners, the historic homes and the individual history of some of the homes. She knows places to take great pictures of Mount Rushmore. Took us up the corkscrew bridges. She accompanied us through the museum and video presentation. She told us about movies filmed in the area. She knew all sorts of interesting things about the area. It was a very personal tour because it was only my husband and I. She treated us like it was a special day for her because she got to spend the day doing what she loves. Talking to people about a place she loves. Thank you Ann.
Our first time there. It’s just as amazing as everyone says. And our tour guide Scott made it even more special with his friendly, knowledgeable insights and interesting stories about the monument and the Black Hills region.
Our guide, Jerry, was very knowledgeable about the area. He provided great insight and showed us places off the beaten track.
It was a great tour and Trevor stopped along the way to show us a lot. I would recommend this tour. It was the perfect amount of time to spend at Mt. Rushmore
We had a great tour with Jerry. He was knowledgable about the history of the monument and its environs, and able to show us interesting photo spots.
Our guide Jerry was fantastic. Very knowledgable and flexible about making certain we had time to do everything we wanted to do on our tour. He also took us to a bonus viewing site of Mount Rushmore from the road for photos.
The tour was very nice. Our driver Jerry was very informative and polite. He even brought my phone back that I left in the van. We saw lots of sights we probably wouldn’t have known to look for. Over all the tour was nice but not worth 165.00 a person.
I would rate everything 10 stars if I could. Ellen who picked us up was a breathe of fresh air!! Knowledgeable and informative and fun guide! She took care of us and love the idea of snacks and water. Would book again in a heart beat. Learned so much!! Kelley
A great trip with Ellen. Only 2 people on the tour and so Ellen was able to take us to extra view points. She was very knowledgable and made the tour very interesting. She also recommended us where to eat and drink in Rapid City. Her recommendation of Pour 54 was excellent. A must if you want to try different beers/cider and wine and the pizzas were fab too. A tour we would recommend.
Flo was a great guide. I went with my son and 10-year-old grandson, and the trip was just enough. Flo picked us up at the start point, Hotel Alex Johnson, right on time, and we made it to Rushmore with a little narrative on the way. At Rushmore we were given sufficient time to see the monument, visit the gift shop and explore the surroundings. We were taken back to the hotel with some additional narative about what we were seeing. Given the amount of narrative and the rather direct route to the monument, I thought the cost was a little steep; however, we were transported efficiently and politely, and we got into the monument grounds without a hitch. I've been on a longer tour of the area with my wife, but this was perfect for a group including a ten-year-old. Flo, the guide, was great, given the nature of our tour, the Affordable Adventure.
It was a great tour with a very knowledgeable and passionate guide. Ann went out of her way to give us information about the area and the behind the scenes information that she had.
Ellen was our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mt Rushmore.
Taking the smaller tour was a great experience it was customized to us. What a great experience thank you so much to our guide Flo
Bruce was a knowledgeable, efficient and caring guide
Wonderful tour with our driver Flo to the amazing Mt Rushmore! She was very informative and nice to spend the day with. This tour company was great to work with.
We had a well-informed and experienced guide who was very knowledgeable about Rapid City, Custer State Park, Black Hills and Mount Rushmore areas. We learnt about the geology, the terrain, wildlife, history and development of these areas. During our journey to and from Mt Rushmore Memorial Park. We had a general introduction to the monument and were able to take a self guided tour to the outdoor viewing areas the exhibition hall museum and the theatre where a film about the planning and construction of the granite rock sculptures was presented. There was time to have refreshments view literature and gifts on offer. There was time tour provided a great insight into the many attractions of the area.
This was our annual anniversary trip, a perfect day for our outing to Mt Rushmore and vicinity. Our tour guide Ann, made our experience unforgettable. She's very knowledgeable of the area history added with her family anecdotes, gave it the personal touch. Got to meet her husband, what a lovely couple. This was a once in a lifetime experience, movies and pictures don't give it justice, got to see bison, donkeys, prairie dogs and even a snake sunning itself across the road. The sky was blue, sunny and not windy, like the previous day. The stars lined up to create a wonderful day for us. Thank you so much Ann, I have recommended this trip to family and friends.
Outstanding tour of Mount Rushmore with Affordable Adventures and our tour guide Shane! Able to view Mount Rushmore from several locations and appreciated their ability to schedule us last minute. Highly Recommend!
Brilliant tour. Nick my guide was very friendly helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. Prompt pick-up from hotel
Our guide went above and beyond showing us around Rapid City and fun stops along the way to Mt Rushmore. We had more than enough time to do all we wanted at Mt Rushmore itself. It was a beautiful day.
Awesome tour. Susan was entertaining and very informative. She provided us with information to make our entire stay. In South Dakota memorable
Wow! Three of us booked the 4 hour Mount Rushmore tour and our driver Ken was absolutely incredible. He walked us through the memorial and took scenic routes and stopped for photos. He was so knowledgeable and pleasant. Despite the drizzle and fog, we got a glimpse of the famous sculpture. Ken made sure we did everything we wanted for a great day!
Worthwhile excursion. Started on time with a very pleasant guide. Our guide, Trevor, was knowledgeable and informative and looked out for our needs. We had a great look at Mt. Rushmore that we would not have gotten on our own.
We had our tour with Ann, and she was amazing! So knowledgeable and passionate. She explained the history of Mount Rushmore with great stories and details. It was so interesting to learn about the monument's creation and meaning. Ann made everything clear, fun, and engaging. The views were absolutely stunning, and having her as our guide made the whole experience unforgettable. Highly recommend!!
I had a wonderful day and very good luck with the weather. The visitor centre as well as all the roads along the way are simply impressive. The view of the artwork really leaves you speechless. This tour can really be recommended.
