Excellent audio tour and ease of use. Great information and area highlights and history. Highly recommend!

Itinerary
The overlook faces the Badlands and prairie meadows. It's a wonderful place to see bison, pronghorn, and the park's diverse scenery. From the Badlands Loop Road, a popular park route, the overlook is a short hike. Note: The tour is over 34 miles long, with more than 32+ audio stories, and takes about 1-2 hours to complete. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
It is known for its unique landscapes, including rugged rock formations and deep canyons. The wilderness area is home to a variety of plant and animal life, including bison, bighorn sheep, and pronghorn. It is a popular destination for hiking and backpacking, as well as wildlife viewing and photography.
It houses many black-tailed prairie dogs. Prairie dogs, burrowing rodents from the Great Plains of North America, are known for their "bark" and behaviour. Visitors to the park enjoy seeing these fascinating animals in their natural habitat at Roberts Prairie Dog Town.
This site is named after the ancient tribes that hunted in the Badlands. This site yielded bison bones and arrowheads. It was likely a butchering field where hunters cleaned and prepared bison corpses.
It has unique layered rock formations. Iron oxide in the rock layers makes the Yellow Mounds yellow. The formations offer a unique picture of Badlands landscapes after millions of years of erosion and weathering.
Here, you can take in another great view of the park’s yellow paleosols. These offer a window into the land’s distant past. Remember, this was once the bed of a warm, shallow sea. The paleosols you can see from here are part of the bottommost formation in the Badlands: the Pierre Shale.
Lincoln believed the American west had the resources his country needed. Few Americans wanted to live there. West Coast Natives were wary of settlers in the unexplored region. So Lincoln signed the Homestead Act. All they needed to do was live on the land and work to improve it.
This spot is quite different from previous overlooks, as the main attraction here isn’t badlands at all, but gentle, pleasant prairie. It’s a great example of the surprisingly diverse ecosystems of the park.
From here, you may see The Castle, a magnificent formation. It will be the largest formations seen from the overlook. Beyond the castle, the White River Valley extends forever. The White River created this valley long ago, as you would have surmised from the name.
The trail includes interactive exhibits showcasing the park's fossil heritage, including ancient animal fossils. The wheelchair-accessible trail welcomes all ages and fitness levels. Visitors can learn about extinct animals like the rhinoceros and three-toed horse and their environment along the trail.
This 0.7-mile trail takes under half an hour to hike and features some great opportunities for bird watching and sightseeing along the way. Despite its short length, this is one of the steepest in the park, with over 200 feet of elevation gain. If it has rained recently, you should steer clear of this one.
If you’re looking to take a quick break from your expedition through the Badlands, this is a great place for it. In addition to a picnic area and the usual amenities, you’ll also find things like the Fossil Preparation Lab here, which shows what paleontologists do with fossils once they’ve discovered them.
This half-mile loop offers one of the best views in the park. In addition to the stellar vista from the top of the loop, you’ll also get to explore one of the Badlands’ lesser-known biomes as you walk through a lush juniper forest.
The Notch Trail features 1.5 miles of rough terrain for the intermediate hiker, including a rope ladder that takes you up to a tremendous vista of the White River Valley. Hikers looking for tricky terrain and great views will love this trail.
This quarter-mile, fully accessible boardwalk is more of a stroll than a hike. It leads to a break in the Badlands Wall. This gap, known as The Door, features unbeatable views of the landscape beyond. Be sure to bring your camera for this one!
Finally, there’s The Castle. At 5.4 miles, it’s the longest-maintained trail in the park. It weaves through prairie, Badlands peaks, and all kinds of unique formations along the way. If you want to get a good look at all the different features of the Badlands, this trail is a great choice.

Great to have the narrative with the scenery.
Awesome tour. The narration was spot on at the right times of the drive. Have wonderful info on each lookout stop and other info between lookouts.
Being able to drive ourselves, we could stop as long as we wanted and skip any stop we wanted to. The auto drive was the perfect tour.
EXCELLENT in many ways. Terrific history and comments along the route about every significant Vista and geology. Voice of audio was very succinct and easy to listen to. We highly reccomend this audio tour.
Best purchase I ever made on a road trip. This is easy to download at home and save to your phone and use. It gives excellent background information, knows where you start, tells you about hikes, how long they are, how strenuous they are so you can know what your abilities are and which to skip, gives you background information, interesting related stories, just wonderful to listen to along the way. Well worth every penny. I highly recommend the purchase.
The self guided tour was very helpful and informative. If there was an alternate way to go, it told us where to go and how long it would take. It provided a lot of interesting facts about the Badlands as we drove around and I appreciated how it knew where we were in the park.
Provided great suggestions on where to stop, hike, how long or difficult the hike is, background information, history, interesting stories…..just wonderful. Don’t travel without getting one of the audio tours!!!
We did the audio tour . It was the right pace and very informative
After we figured out the ringer volume vs the music volume, it worked great! Definitely try ahead of time and if in poor cell reception, load ahead of time! This is all the stuff they tell you and we all ignore, but I was surprised to get to my campground and have no cell coverage.
I learned so many interesting things by participating in the tour. It was great! I have some friends going to Acadia NP and I recommended the self-guided tour to them. Great way to learn!!!
The Badlands Action Tour Guide is better than the one for the Black Hills. This one wasn’t screwy, but it also wasn’t all that informative. I wish I had learned more. The Native American history was interesting, though.
Accurate GPS to sightseeing location. Very easy to follow. Informative, May be a bit biased in story-telling.
Very informative and interesting , although perhaps a little bit too effusive regarding various overlooks that weren’t much different than earlier ones that we’d already seen.
I learned a lot of interesting history on this tour that really helped put all the scenic stops into context. I learned all about dinosaurs, geology, wildlife, indigenous history, etc.
Great audio for our tour around the badlands. Easy to use. Review directions ahead of time. My family thoroughly enjoyed.
Worked well with Car Play. We had a specific plan for the day and were thrown off a bit because the starting point of the guide (westbound) was well before the entrance to the park. It would have been helpful to have seen that in the prep descriptions.
First time buying an audio guide and I’d recommend it to everyone! Gives you all the information you need to know about the Badlands. Where to stop for the best photographs. Where the hikes are located with the level of difficulty and estimated time to hike. Includes historical information and stories. It made our trip to the Badlands an even better experience.
Very informative truly enjoyed it. I would buy others from them. I have purchased others where you got to keep it but at least you get a year.
Beautiful scenery definitely worth seeing, so glad I purchased the tour. It provided so much historical and geographical information.
We tried multiple times to use our self guided audio tour but it wouldn't load, only showed an "oops" message. So we didn't get to use the guide
Enjoyed the info given in the tour. Enhanced my trip. Liked the way the app started to play whenever a locarion was approaching. Easy to use.
Great experience. We were able to learn the history of the park while choosing where we wanted to stop and check out the viewpoints.
This self-guided tour is a great way to learn about the Badlands.
Impressive experience with the App. Gave interesting background info. Great navigation instructions and places to stop. Very easy to use. Highly recommend this app.
Very interesting background information as you travel through the park. The tour was well organized, and will be remembered long into the future.
We downloaded the audio before we left on our cross US tour in case we'd lose connection as directed and it worked perfectly. We were able to pass by somethings not of interest and continue on to what we really wanted to see and were pleasantly surprised the audio knew exactly what site was coming up next for us. Highly recommend.
This was the second self guided tour we have used at National parks. The narrative that follows your location is great. We enjoyed our day in Badlands National Park with orator tour.
We could not download our audio tour of the badlands before during or after our visit. Please refund our ticket price!!!
It was very inexpensive, but very informative. Narration was clear and concise. I would differently use it again with future trips.
Love seeing what’s in our own country! The app gave us much more information. It worked well for us.
Great way to drive through the Badlands. Enhanced the visit enormously with lots of interesting information. App worked perfectly thru CarPlay and thru rental cars speakers. Have already recommended it to others!
The trip was great and the guide was very informative. Thank you for the information. The app worked well
Good experience, we liked how you could take your own pace and stay longer at some points. Downloading the your was smooth. Amazing views at all the points of interest.
App worked great. Nice to listen to the area facts and history rather than read many individual small signs. Would is this app again for a tour elsewhere.
Loved the app and how it knew where you were on Google Maps and then would start the next audible piece. I learned more than I would have than without the app. A great way to see the park!!!
The app worked great. As we drove along it would just start playing over our cars speaker (was using CarPlay) as we crossed certain geo fences. The Info was pretty good. I think it is worth the money. We followed the advice and downloaded the app in advance as well as the tour (Westbound). Easy Peasy.
The experience was amazing, gorgeous views, and interesting history. Reminds us of a small Grand Canyon with the layering of the rock formations. We were fortunate to find the Action self guided tour that was very informative.
The address they send you too is either a block of cabins or it does not exist. The nearby building is locked. We just drove around ourselves. Entering at Palisades, go south to see badlands. Go north to see prairie dog town. Saw lots of buffalo and prairie dogs.
Great insight into the area and we learned a lot about the geology and history of the area. We did visit at both sunset and sunrise, which we learned is the best time for photography and we agree! The tour was great, but the app is a bit difficult to navigate; it is not intuitive and could be improved.
Great tour Commentary really made the trip Was a great experience Highlighting all the spectacular senery
Engaging explanations of the various areas of the park. The geological information discussed the way the features were formed and we found that very interesting.
Great audio tour of Badlands National Park. Conveniently on my cell phone and the narration follows us as we proceed through the park. When we stop, it stops. When we skip a point of interest, the narration continues along with us. Highly recommend this as well as other Action Self-Driving Tours. They are really good.
This tour truly, without a doubt, made our Badlands experience exceptional. The amount of knowledge expressed was educational. The announcer did and exceptional job pointing out points of interest, history, etc. Our day in the Badlands would not have been exceptional without this audio tour.
My husband and I just took this self guided tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the informational stories as we drove. We took a side road based on the tour information and were surprised to see Buffalo and prairie dogs on the side of the road. We wouldn’t have known about it without the tour information. It was also convenient to learn about each viewing stop. We definitely recommend this self guided ‘go at your own pace’ tour.
We enjoyed the commentary which was helpful. It is a great alternative to a guided tour. The only issue I had was navigating to the start of the commentary which could have been more helpful.
My wife and I took this tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was glad we could replay parts when needed and we actually mentioned to each other how glad we were to have the narration because otherwise we wouldn’t know what we were looking at. I’ll definitely do these self guided audio tours in the future. The Bad Lands were stunning as it was, but the narration made it that much better!
This audio tour helped us appreciate the Badlands beyond just the magnificent views. We enjoyed it so much, we downloaded the tour for our visit to Yellowstone.
The audio cut out too often and was difficult to reconnect. Also, I think it would be important, when arriving at the Ben Reifel Visitor Center in the Badlands, to explain who Ben was. He was Lakota and grew up on the Rosebud Reservation. He was the first Plains Indian to serve in the US Congress. He was also a graduate of Harvard University. He was an impressive Native American and his background is highly worth noting in your audio tour.
I was extremely happy with the view. It was narrated clearly. The narration was very good information. There was some options with my tour about a bonus feature. The GPS prompts were right on target. Tour took me about three to three and a half hours. Even when I went off the path for my own interests, it took up where I rejoined. And I was able to listen to a spot that I missed. I was so impressed with the tour that I bought the entire package of 160+ tours.
