Harmony (our horse) knew her route, Mike our driver was very informative and personable - so glad we did this! We had been on a group carriage ride a few years ago and wanted to try the private ride - best decision! We feel we saw things we wouldn't have if we had just walked around. Thanks Mike!!
What a fun ride and experience. Alan was informative and engaging. We chose the private and it was worth it. I’d definitely recommend
We had Mike as a guide. AWESOME tour! Mike was an excellent guide and full of knowledge. Highly recommend this tour.
Fun and informative. Easy to find, punctual, relaxing ride through town with lots of j fo about architecture and history with humor.
Had the best time with Brianna, she is very knowledgeable! The entire experience was awesome.
Looney was the best tour guide. ask for him and Dutch the next time you want a carriage tour. you won't regret it. They take really good care of their horses too.
We loved the private carriage experience. Troy was a fabulous guide. O’Malley did a wonderful job pulling the carriage. It’s a fantastic way to see historic Charleston.
Make Newton was a great guide. We enjoyed everything about our tour
We chose the private tour and glad we did, rode in a lovely carriage around Charleston. Mike Newtown, our driver, was friendly and knowledgeable about Charleston history. Our horse was Troyer, he was sweet and friendly.
This was our second time touring with Palmetto Carriage Works and it was wonderful! We took a private morning ride and our guide Bill and his horse Boeing, a French Perchron were great! Bill was very knowledgeable about the city he grew up in and really made the tour interesting, comfortable and fun! Both before and after the ride we were able to visit with all the horses in the heard and get to know a little bit about each of them. For horse owners and lovers like us that really made the experience extra special! The horses are very well cared for and just the right amount of spoiled! I can’t say enough great things about these folks. If you are ever in Charleston and looking for a relaxing and fun way to tour the city I highly recommend Palmetto Carriage Works!
Our one hour private tour with David was great! The tour guides always make or break the tour, and David was the best! Charleston has so much history - fascinating to learn about! Highly recommend
A wonderful tour and Brianna was very knowledgeable and courteous. She was great! And Boeing, our horse, was great too!
Bill and Bosch made our first horse drawn carriage ride very memorable! Bill was knowledgeable about Charleston and the historical area the tour took us through. The ride was smooth and relaxing!
Our guide, Sydney was perfect. She was super friendly and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed ever minute of our tour. The ladies in the office where amazing as well. Highly recommend! Wonderful experience.
David, our driver, was excellent. He was friendly, and knew the city inside and out. The only downside was the ping pong ball lottery that decides what part of the city you will get to tour. We didn’t draw the area we would’ve chosen to tour if it was our choice. All tours must stop for their lottery draw so it is not in the driver’s power to choose where to go. Excellent value for the cost. Staff at the facility were all friendly and helpful.
We had a great time in Charleston on the private horse- drawn carriage ride. Mike Newton was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide and Harmony the horse was beautiful. Highly recommend.
We had such a wonderful time on this tour while visiting Charleston. Our guide, Evan and the horse Buster made the trip unforgettable. Evan knows a lot about the city and made learning about the local history a lot of fun! We will definitely be back another time.
Newton was an awesome guide. The whole experience was fantastic.
Loved Newton and Troyer. Really learned the history of charleston. Very comfortable carrage.
Mike gave us a great and informative tour that included Rainbow Row. Our carriage was pulled by Troyer, at a nice steady pace. We gladly recommend Palmetto Carriage Works

Our driver Newton and wonderful horse Squirt were so wonderful and very informational! We were blessed to get all the history and day to day scoop on American history 1700-1900! It was so much better as a couple then as a group! Do try it you will love the 1 hour tour
Newton gave us a 9am tour with Harmony on Sat., June 20th. He was very kind and personable. In addition he was a great guide for a morning tour! He was knowledgable about the city and gave us background on the company as well. Highly recommend a wagonette tour with Newton and Harmony!
Our driver, Mike was very kind and knowledgeable! The staff made sure to take many photos for us, so we could remember the wonderful time!
Mike was our guide and he was wonderful!! Engaging, informative, and enthusiastic about his material. We would highly recommend the tour and the guide. We are very pleased to hear of the care and concern for the well-being of the horses. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful tour with a most wonderful tour guide, Troy. Very informative, very funny and just plain nice on a very hot day. Even our horse was great.
What an awesome way to spend a Friday afternoon. Our driver was Brian, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. We would highly recommend Brian and this company for a carriage ride through downtown Charleston.. yes, we will return and ride again!! Thanks for a great experience!!
Bill was FANTASTIC! He was so knowledgable and friendly! We absolutely LOVED the tour and our tour guide Bill!
Great private carriage tour! Our guide, Troy was knowledgeable, funny and very engaging – we learned a lot and had a wonderful time. The only downside was not seeing some of the iconic Charleston spots due to the city-assigned route lottery, but that was outside of the company’s control. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
Exceeded expectations! Our carriage was guided by Evan who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. And Deuce the horse was the best!!!
Awesome, knowledgeable, funny, kind guide Bronson and horse Howard. Palmetto shows great respect towards their horses!
Wonderful experience with Michael C. He was so knowledgeable about Charleston! He and his father are the only father and son 7 generations tour guides. AMAZING!
A fun, must-do activity when visiting Charleston! Our tour guide was hilarious and informative. We had a great time.
Austin was awesome! Great stories and super knowledgeable. Private carriage is the only way to go! Would do it again. :)
Our driver was Bob Witcraft who is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He made the tour so interesting and entertaining. We highly recommend Bob and his beautiful horse named Harmony.
The carriage driver/tour guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the area and he was very entertaining. We really enjoyed it.
Very informative- our guide was very knowledgeable about Charleston’s history and pointed out things we would not have noticed on our own. Very professional tour operator!
My husband and I chose to do the private carriage ride and it did not disappoint. Our driver / guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Charleston, the buildings, gardens, and more and he was also very entertaining. It is clear that the horses are well cared for and our tour guide spoke to what goes in to their care which we also enjoyed. Well worth it!!
Wonderful way to see. Charleston. Our guide, Elliott was amazing. It was a touch chilly but they provided blankets.
Briana was an excellent guide. She kept us well-informed and was very knowledgeable about the history. We saw more of Charleston than we would have on our own and learned so much.
Very informative tour. Personalized and our tour guide was very engaging and funny yet gave us lots of history information. I highly recomment
Looney was an amazing guide. Knowledgeable, funny, and a great representative of Charleston and the company. Thank you for creating a wonderful family memory!
Sidney and America carriage ride was fabulous! Sidney was knowledgeable, informative and humorous. Great time shared by the family.
We had a private horse drawn carriage tour for 8 people with tour guide Mike Newton and he was very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston making an interesting 50 minute tour. Harmony was our horse and she did a great job as well- staying calm through the traffic. Everyone at Palmetto Carriage tours were extremely friendly and professional. They seemed to treat their horses exceptionally well. The biggest shout out should go to Beth who booked the tour online for us. We were on a cruise and because of Hurricane Melissa had two changes of date before we finally arrived in Charleston. We notified Beth by email and she responded quickly each time. Nothing was too much trouble and it was greatly appreciated!
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and Veterans Day. It was his first trip to Charleston. He is a retired disabled veteran and wanted to take me on a carriage ride. Briana and Teddy were our hosts and we had a delightful and informative tour. We were impressed by Briana's knowledge of the city and its history. We were also intrigued by the City's lottery process for each tour route. We definitely will recommend Palmetto to our friends.
Jason Looney was an excellent and entertaining tour guide! He made the carriage ride both fun and informative. We learned so much about Charleston’s history while enjoying a relaxing one-hour tour. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the city!
We had a wonderful ride through Charleston. Jason was very knowledgeable and funny!!! We got a kick out of him. Would recommend!!!
We had a great time with Evan! He was very knowledgeable and friendly. The only thing that was not 5 star was the route which we were assigned--it did not include the waterfront area or the colorful historical houses. This is not any fault of this company.
Disappointed in the lottery they use, understand why they need it, but we bascially just drove around the nearby city blocks.
