We had a wonderful experience on our walking tour of Charleston, SC! Bill is an excellent, incredibly knowledgeable guide, especially when it comes to the history of slavery and its profound impact on the city and its people. He shared the history with honesty, compassion, and respect, bringing Charleston’s past to life while helping us understand the people, events, and stories that shaped the city. The tour was both educational and thought-provoking, and we walked away with a much deeper appreciation and understanding of Charleston’s rich, yet complicated, history. Bill is engaging, informative, and clearly passionate about sharing the true story of Charleston. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Charleston. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip!

We learned so much about the history from a very knowledgeable and experienced tour guide! He has a huge academic background in history from top universities.
Billy was great. Very knowledgeable
Book now! This walking tour was filled with not talked about history and it was fascinating. Bill was AMAZING! You can't get anything better than someone talking about something they are passionate about. Bill was knowledgeable, sincere, honest and 1 great storyteller! I highly recommend this tour. My husband and I are in are 50s and had two twenty-somethings with us. Everyone enjoyed it.

Outstanding tour. Our guide made it one of our best tours ever. Besides being a great tour, he provided very thoughtful history lessons. Don’t hesitate to book it.
Very informative and insightful
We loved Bill's unique and informative presentation throughout the tour. No sugarcoating of the city's history!
We highly recommend this tour! Our Guide Bill was very informative and knowledgeable. Awhile back we went on a walking tour which was ok. This tour taught us things we had not known,
Great overview and the guide allowed us to ask questions and correct some misinformation that was previously shared. I would highly recommend this tour.
Bill was a fabulous guide. He is so knowledgeable and experienced. He tries to provide an authentic and honest narrative of the history and culture of Charleston. Highly recommend this tour!!
We had a wonderful experience on the Oyster Point walking tour with Bill. His knowledge of Charleston’s history was impressive, and his engaging manner made the tour both informative and enjoyable. He brought the city’s stories to life with enthusiasm and made the time fly by. Highly recommend this tour—and Bill in particular!
Excellent tour! Bill was a great guide and did a wonderful job. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent walking tour. Our guide William was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We got to see places that appear to be off the usual tour circuit and we heard interesting historical facts about Charleston.
Great learning of the history of Charleston. If you want the bold truth, Bill is your guy!
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very interesting! Would highly recommend
Bill gave us a brilliant intro to Charleston history and culture. Most importantly, his voice was very clear and loud enough for us to hear everything he said.
Great tailored tour. Almost like a private experience. Learned lots about the city and its character. Tour guide’s insights made the history relevant to today.
Best tour guide hands down. His knowledge of Charlestown’s history was unsurpassed. We would recommended this tour guide to everyone
Our guide was a very knowledgeable educator and historian, and was clearly passionate about Charleston and its true history, and educating others.
Deep dive into history and architecture, good recommendations and worthwhile stops with full context by the knowledgeable guide. Highly informative, learnt a lot!
Our tour guide is an expert historian. He was both knowledgeable and passionate about Charleston's rich history. We found it to be both interesting and informative. We learned a lot!
Bill is an outstanding historian. Tour was insightful & fun. Highly recommend.
Loved Bill’s tour! Very educated historian. So much info it was hard to keep up- in a good way! Loved his humor and appreciated him not white-washing Charleston’s history
Our tour guide has an amazing amount of passion & information about the Charleston area. Amazing 2 hours.
An excellent tour guided by a history professor with deep knowledge of the history of Charleston. Loved it.
Our excursion director was outstanding. Very knowledgeable about Charleston and the issues/religious influences impacting the city. Great experience.
Hang out at the Palmetto Hotel Bar and meet the most fascinating tour guide of Old Charlestown. Much like Hemingway being a fixture at Sloppy Joes in Key West, Bill Is a key fixture to historic Charleston and the Palmetto. Buy him a drink and watch him entertain, educate, and provide the true history of the city and its checkered past. If you really want to see him in rare form ask him his thoughts on the Citadel. If you happen to be at the Palmetto for an espresso martini and you hear a guy talking about history, say hello to Bill and trust he will give you the raw and unfiltered truth.
In spite of a hot July day, this walking tour of Charleston was a terrific time. Our guide Bill, a man with a substantial background in SC history, explained the evolution of Charleston and its place in American history in great detail. We saw many points of interest in the historic district. This tour is highly recommended.
Led by historian, very knowledgeable and he shared a comprehensive history of Charleston. I highly recommend this tour. Super affordable for the experience.
If you value truth and history, Bill is the right tour guide for you.
Very informative and full of facts rather than the glossed over version.
First time in Charleston and didn't know a lot about the historical background of the city. Extremely glad we did this tour with Bill on our first day in town. He's extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging in this tour. Even though we got caught in the rain about half-way through our tour, he didn't let it stop him and we had an excellent time. The walking portion of the tour wasn't too strenuous, and Bill made sure he stopped at places where everyone in the group could easily hear him. I'd recommend this tour to anyone visiting Charleston who isn't afraid of the harsh realities of this country's past and genuinely wants to expand their knowledge.
Bill Harris was terrific. Extremely knowledgeable of Charleston and history in general!
Took the tour with guide Bill. He was well informed - clearly history driven - very stimulating and provocative. Rather than a schtick tour, Bill opened by inviting questions as a start point. Along the well thought out itinerary he shared insights and stories as might be expected. Outside the Old Slave Mart he struck a very principled position regarding "revisionist" telling of history regarding the "peculiar institution" which was refreshing and new. Bill took the time to answer all questions and even had a cracker-jack recommendation for further Civil War reading. Very, very worthwhile.
An amazing learning experience about the history of Charleston from an incredible guide. He provided an unfiltered understanding of the history of Charleston and the legacy of slavery in the south. I would highly recommend this for anyone with an interest in gaining a better understanding of this area's and our country's history beyond what we are "taught" in school.
Bill is extremely knowledgeable. Best tour I’ve ever taken
Our guide was clearly very knowledgeable about a wide variety of current and historical topics related to the city and region. However, the members of my group left this tour feeling like his strong personal biases were a distraction to our overall experience. In the end, I'd say I learned a good deal about the history of the area and I'm sure none of us will soon forget his brash take on smacking us in the faces with the negative aspects of Charleston's past and present. I would specifically recommend avoiding this tour if you have strong right-leaning opinions.
Very informative and honest about the city.
Bill was filled with knowledge of the history of Charleston as well as a love of Charleston. The walk was not too strenuous and he attempted to keep us in the shade as much as possible, thankfully. We enjoyed his tour and would recommend it for those who would like to hear a portion of Charleston’s past.
Fantastically interesting guide
Bill is more than knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. We throughly appreciated his true honesty about the history of Charleston, slavery, the whitewashing of Charleston's history. I look forward to returning to Charleston and booking Oyster Point, again, and learning more from Bill. Highly recommend.
Bill was a great guide not only taking us to key historic sites around Charleston, but sharing things about Charleston and US history that they don't teach us in school or in most history books. He will flex to what you are comfortable with but will also challenge what you think you know. Bill took us to the last remaining slave auction house museum in Charleston that very few other tour groups will take you to. My wife and I will continue to ponder and process what we learned from.Bill even after we get back home. Highly recommend!
Take this tour. You will get an unfiltered truth of the history of Charlston with Bill. He is enthusiastic and passionate. It is not your average tour.
If you are looking for a tour based on the unvarnished truth of the matter, this tour is for you. Knowledgeable/passionate guide.
Sites were as expected. The tour guide seemed sort of hopped up on something, maybe his own inflated sense of how history should be presented? While I didn't necessarily even disagree with any of his POV, I didn't go on the walking tour to be lectured to or have political opinions interjected. The facts can be described without resorting to overly personal or emotional presentation.
The guy was concerned with given us an accurate depiction of Charleston and its role in the revolutionary and Civil War. He did not try to sugarcoat the history or make it more acceptable to us.
The guide was clearly full of wonderful knowledge but he inserted a lot of personal information and opinions that were not relevant to a historical tour of the city.
Bill our guide was entertaining, insightful and exceptionally informative about the historical development of Charleston. We all learned much and were also encouraged to visit other key sites in the area to build on the insights gained. Thank you for a great tour.
