The four of us had a great time in this cooking class. We made the best pimento cheese Ive ever ate, the pecan torte was amazing and the biscuits were delicious. The knowledge and history she shared with us was amazing. Martha was a wonderful teacher who has an exceptional personality. I highly recommend doing this culinary experience.
I have taken this class before love it so much. I just enjoy how Miss Martha tells the story about everything.
This was the highlight of our trip! We enjoyed listening to the rich history surrounding our recipes. The environment is laid back and group oriented. Recipes were easy and delicious! We can’t wait to get back home and proudly showcase our skills!
This is an immersive hands on experience laced with fascinating historical details. The experience was casual, fun and perfectly structured. It is fun as a solo and perfect for a group. The recipes were easy and straightforward and delicious. One of my favorite traveling experiences.
It was amazing would do it again!!!!!! They took their time to explain and show what was happening. Interacted with all the guests.
I came from out of state to visit my daughter in South Carolina and my aunt came up from Florida also to visit the both of us and we all embark on this cooking class, which was amazing experience to just have fun in a small group setting and create something delicious to snack on.
This was a fun class! I loved learning about the food of Charleston. It was a nice calm time in the middle of all the sightseeing.
This is an absolute must do while on Charleston! The hands on cooking and secret southern tips combined with the rich culture and heritage of this city is the best of all worlds! My two girlfriends and I thought this was a top highlight and would book again in a heartbeat, not a single disappointment at all, it was truly amazing and very tasty!
We had a wonderful time making the Huguenot Torte, Sherried Whip Creme, pimento cheese and buttermilk biscuits along with learning the history of the recipes and region. The cooks were friendly and engaging. They made sure everyone got a hands on experience.
There wasn’t an experience. Because only 2 of us signed up several weeks ago our class was canceled.
Martha was full of historical knowledge and made cooking so much fun. Georgia was amazing as well. Don’t miss out on this class!
This experience sure did not disappoint! Martha and Georgia were very sweet. Martha was entertaining very knowledgeable about the food as well as history of Charleston. The food we made was amazing! Great overall experience!
Our hostess was so friendly, personable and informative. The food we made turned out delicious and we learned a lot about Charleston culinary history! Highly recommend. We did the morning class and made biscuits, pimento cheese, and a pecan tart. Yummy!!
Hands-On Cooking with Martha is a must do when in Charleston! In addition to cooking three fantastic dishes, you learn interesting facts about the ingredients and the history of Charleston. The classes are fun/educational and the food melts in your mouth! Whether you are a seasoned cook or a beginner, these classes are for you. We even learned a bunch of kitchen hacks. In addition to being warm and friendly, Martha is so knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the two classes we took and plan to take her classes on our next visit.
Wonderful experience from start to finish We had a fantastic culinary cooking experience from a great chef who gave us the history on local food and families producing it. Martha was fantastic, patient , professional, and such a joy to meet . The food was absolutely delicious!
Charleston Culinary Cooking Class provided the PERFECT way to enjoy Charleston history, learn how to make authentic foods with authentic ingredients, and redisover the fun in cooking again with friends and family. Martha Herchak knows her stuff. This was my second time at Charleston Culinary and it wont be my last.
During this class you learn classic southern recipes and you learn the history of the foods. The class is very informative and fun.
Fabulous cooking experience! Loved making, eating, and learning the history of Charleston's culinary cultural. Our guide was excellent!
Fun cooking class. We helped make Charleston rice, cornbread and mixed berry cobbler. Martha was a perfect instructor and a lovely human.
My husband and I were looking for a local hands on cooking class with the low country cuisine. This class was great! Would do another class with this business!!
The morning session was great. You cook with your group, everyone doing a little something, but fun. Learned a lot about the history of the ingredients.
We had an amazing cooking class with Martha. And some lovely ladies from Texas. I finally think I will be able to make biscuits at home that are not tough and chewy and don’t get me going on the pimento cheese and Hugenot torte. I learned so much about the history of the food of Charleston and low country. I can’t wait to go back and do one of their other tours.
We had a marvelous experience learning to make three specialty recipes and hearing the history behind them. Our instructor, Martha, was wonderful---informative, efficient, warm and knowledgeable about both cooking and the history of the area. Would highly recommend.
We prepared three regionally focused items and received a healthy dash of Charleston history. This was a very clean and welcoming environment. The instructor was knowledgeable and friendly. We honestly enjoyed this experience.
Great host. Martha did an excellent job of keeping us on task and educating us on history and culture of the low country while making a fantastic meal. Definitely worth the cost of admission and unique experience.
My husband and I often attend cooking classes when we travel. We find it to be one of the best ways to get a feel for the culture. This was one of the best experiences we encountered. Martha was not only a great cook but a storyteller sharing the origins of the area, the food, and many cooking tips. Worth ever penny.
We had the greatest time and our instructor was very knowledgeable. We learned a lot and the food was excellent. I would recommend this to anyone!
Our experience was very enjoyable. Our instructor gave a detailed history of the low country cuisine and how to make several Charleston staples. The recipes were not difficult but very flavorful. While we cooked our instructor also explained why certain things were added or why we used certain techniques, mistakes to avoid, as well as tips and tricks. Unlike many other cooking classes you will come away with knowledge that will be of use long into the future and recipes you will happily recreate at home.
Super fun way to learn a bit more about the history of the area through food! Both for novices and those experienced in the kitchen, everyone learned something while also tasting delicious dishes from the region! Definitely recommend!
This was a highlight of our trip to Charleston! My mother, myself and my teenaged daughter all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The history, the tips and tricks and fun while baking and, of course, the FOOD were all amazing! We have never done something like this before and so glad we took the chance. 100% recommend.
A must do in Charelston! Even if you know how to cook, you will learn something new. Took the AM class, should have booked the PM also.
Martha and Giles were great tour guides/ chef instructors. The dishes we made were delicious and we enjoyed interacting with the other participants. The only downside was that because there were so many participants we didn’t get as much hands on as we would like but would still recommend this activity.
We decided to book this hands on culinary class for our mother daughter trip to Charleston. Our instructor was wonderful! She shared the history of the area and the food while teaching us how to prepare great low country favorites. I would highly recommend this class.
We had an absolute blast. Class size made it very personal. Martha was the perfect teacher, her knowledge and stories made it special. Was worth every penny, we will absolutely come back again.
Our instructor was knowledgeable about both the cooking class and about Charleston history. It was an amazing class with wonderful people and I recommend it highly.

Fantastic experience! We took the am class and the recipe choice was perfect. We learned so many cooking tricks and finally learned the secret to making biscuits!! The Huguenot torte is amazing. It will be a new addition to our desserts. Thank you :)
My husband and I decided to do this as a fun lunch date. The atmosphere was small but cozy. The chef truly made you feel welcomed and really pulls you into the culture of the ingredients and food your cooking which made it all more enjoyable.
This class was delightful! Martha was an excellent and engaging hostess. We learned new cooking techniques and a ton about the ingredients - their source, their historic significance in the region and culture. And our final result ... DELICIOUS! Strongly recommend.
Our family of 5 went as a Christmas present and a way to spend quality time together. Our kids are 23,22 and 21 and all home from college. It was spectacular! Martha was our host/teacher and was tremendous. Her history lessons were so interesting, filled with truly cool tidbits that kept our kids engaged. The food was delicious and we even had leftovers and got to take them home. We will definitely be going back for more of the offering from Charleston Culinary Tours and will request Martha every time!
Great teacher, great information shared, and GREAT food! I would recommend this to everyone. Enjoy !
I went to this experience with my wife and kids and their girlfriends. We had an absolute blast. Martha is so personal and such a good cook. We brought a little wine and just enjoyed the time together. It wasn't cheap, but man was it worth it.
Martha was terrific, very knowledgable about local history which was a huge bonus for us, fun cooking class well explained and ended with a delicious dinner of the local food we all helped to prepare. Definitely a worthwhile tour!
