Great experience to learn about and see Charleston. Our driver Dave was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Dave is full of knowledge! Ask a lot of questions because he is full of good info. Very personable too. The ride is comfortable and we definitely got a good lay of the land for our first time here in Charleston.
Mark was very familiar with the history of the area and took time to answer questions and made our experience very enjoyable.
Mark offered us a warm, personalized half day tour of key historical sites and popular TV and movie filming locations in Charleston and on the nearby islands. My adult granddaughter and I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend this tour to tourists who want to get an overview of Charleston and surrounding areas prior to venturing out on their own. Thanks, Mark!
Mark was great very personable. We saw parts of Charleston we would not have seen had we not taken the tour.
The perfect introduction to Charleston tour. Mark was not only knowledgeable about the history of the city but each of the distinctly unique neighborhoods that make up the city. The tour and Mark’s suggestions really helped us to set our itinerary for the rest of our trip.
Mark was excellent! Very knowledgeable in the history of Charleston as well as the important landmarks that made Charleston such a special city.
Dave is a fabulous history buff. Saw so many historical houses along with their history. He must have taken us down ever street and also went to Mt. Pleasant. Saw King Street the shopping mega heaven. Such an interesting tour. We so appreciate all the history and mega money
Believe it or not I was physically assaulted by the tour guide before the tour began. Wounds to my right arm. Informed his boss. He was shocked. The ships EMT patched me up,
Dave was right on time, filled with vast historical information and fun facts! His car was very comfortable and clean. I highly recommend taking this tour!
Mark was an excellent tour guide, knowledgeable and personable. I would suggest that you request him.
We had a wonderful tour today with Dave who customized the tour to our interests. and was so knowledgeable of the Charleston history. The three hours flew and we were sorry to see it end.
Dave was wonderful, fun and really knows history details. We saw areas we would never have on our own.
David is very knowledgeable about local history & events. Provided interesting details & took us to see various sights not on most tours.
Great tour! Dave was an excellent guide with both super knowledge of the low country and Charleston but also a great way of telling it. Would definitely go with him again.
A wonderful overview of this delightful city. Andy was knowledgeable, fun and accommodating. A worthwhile experience.
Dave is a wonderful and caring guide. A truly wonderful experience. Bonus - the pick up and drop off at our hotel was a huge success. Dave - our guide was off the charts with knowledge and civility.
Glad we chose this Private Tour vs group options. When a tour starts with “What are you most interested in seeing?” the experience immediately climbs in value and enjoyment! We were on The Citadel campus to start and then immersed in the history, architecture and culture of the entire city, region and South! A half day well spent from the rear seat of an expertly driven and comfortable crossover type SUV with cordial and deeply knowledgeable guide!
David provided a great tour. He is very knowledgeable, accommodating, and entertaining. One of the best couple of hours getting to know a new place!! I would do it again.
Had a great experience with our driver and tour guide. Mom had taken a fall the day before so we were definitely mobility challenged and our tour guide made sure that mom was comfortable the entire time. Definitely knowledgeable about history as well as architecture.
Jon was such a great guide, very informative! Learned so much about the beautiful city of Charleston! Walked around the Citadel, Magnolia Cemetery, the battery, and learned about all the beautiful architecture and history of Charleston.
This was a wonderful opportunity to not only tour downtown Charleston but the surrounding area giving us a better understanding of this beautiful city. Mark was very informative and relaxed with a good sense of humor. I’d definitely recommend this tour as a comfortable way to see a wide variety of sites and learn about the history of the area.
It was a rainy day, and I am 78 and not much into long walks. Jon structured a tour that was just perfect. We saw the citadel, and old cemetery, and the historic area of Charleston. We got out at one spot when it was not raining and got to see how the old-time homes were constructed. It was a wonderful time and just perfect, set up just perfectly for my needs and the weather.
Great way to see the area. Excellent information provided about historical places and even included dining options. Our escort was friendly and very accommodating.
We were picked up at our hotel in a very luxurious immaculate vehicle. Our guide Mark, took us to all of the well known and less known sights in Charleston and surrounding vicinity. The tour was flexible and personalized so we had an educational informative yet very relaxing fun experience.
Dave was excellemt. Very knowlegable. Would highly recommend this tour. Saw many things we never would have seen otherwise, and learned alot.
We were rather disappointed. The guide did not take us to half the places in the description. We did not see Waterfront Park or the Historic District. Those were the two main things we really wanted to see. Instead he took us to the Citadel, where he himself attended and was more of a reminiscing tour for him we felt. We spent the entire first half of the tour at the Citadel. We were not super interested in that and it was not even listed in the description. The guide texted me the night before and asked if there was anything special we wanted to see. I responded we had never been here and just wanted to see the must sees so we would leave that up to him. But I mistakenly made the assumption he would at least stick to the description of the tour we chose and paid &175/person for. 😳 We felt that we just drove around in his car for 3 hours without really seeing and experiencing the city. Our hotel gave us a better tour on a paper map that we ended up walking ourselves later that day. It was very disappointing and we felt ripped off.
Great overview of the highlights of Charleston with wonderful narration. Enjoyed viewing the Citadel as well as a historic cemetery. Wonderful explanation of the different architectural house styles in the Charleston downtown area .
Knowledgeable driver brought historic Charleston to life during our tour. David asked if we had any must-see places at the start of our tour. He answered our questions during the tour and graciously accommodated our spontaneous requests.
Jon was wondering as our tour guide. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout our tour.
Our guide, Dave, was simply extraordinary! We enjoyed ourselves immensely! His knowledge of the Charleston history, as well as the little fun details, made the time just fly by. I was a bit hesitant to hire a personal guide simply for the cost but it was the best vacation bang for the buck EVER! Worth every penny. We only had a few days in Charleston and this was, by far, the best way to get a phenomenal knowledge base and learn our way around quickly. We would like to give the biggest kudos to his kindness and caring. I am disabled, which is why we opted to do this type of personal tour. And while I am able to get in/out of vehicles with assistance from my husband & son, my getting around in an historic area was a concern. Dave made certain we were comfortable and, in a week of extreme temperatures, he customized our tour to make the best out of the trip for me. We had an absolute blast with all Dave's little details and knowledge from pre-colonial times to where Elvis liked to hang out. HIGHLY RECOMMED!!
Dave’s knowledge about historic Charleston was amazing His stories about the area and his diverse knowledge of history regarding the years of building, and direct architectural years were a bonus. It was the perfect tour!
Before the tour began Jon asked what we were interested in seeing. As this was our first trip to Charleston, we were open to suggestions. Jon chose three main sites (the Citadel, Magnolia cemetery, and parts of the historic Charleston city center hear the harbor). He wove together historical events, interesting and stories, and helpful interpretation to bring the past and present alive. The cemetery visit focused on a few families and events and provided insight about a few prominent families and military events; we found it totally fascinating. Jon's experience in real estate was very helpful as he pointed out unusual aspects of several homes in the historic part of town. We were delighted with this private tour and would highly recommend it to others.
The enthusiasm and historical knowledge of Eric Lager, Ph.D. were remarkable. His love for his adopted city of Charleston was contagious. Dr. Lager chose historical events, architectural features and stories from the past that captivated our diverse group. The 3-hour tour included a notable breadth of information that also was in-depth. I can't wait for my next visit to Charleston to repeat the experience and would highly recommend this tour.
We learned so much of Charleston history on this tour. Jon was very knowledgeable & asked us before the tour of our interests. I would definitely recommend!
Mark is both an amazing human being as well as a tour guide...his company was most pleasurable and we felt our tour was complete and lacked nothing!
The advertisement shows a picture of a horse drawn carriage. Based on that, we booked this tour in particular. What you get is a Subaru SUV and a driver. The visitor center on Meeting St. never heard of the tour company and called them for us. Very disappointing since I promised my wife a carriage ride for this birthday trip to Charleston. The ad is deceptive. Period. The redeeming part was that Jon Batten, our driver was excellent and informative.
We do a lot of traveling and have gone on many tours. This tour, however is by far the best experience we’ve had. Jon, our guide was thoughtful, engaged, informed and very committed to showing us all the Charleston has to offer. We covered a lot of ground in a short time and feel that we learned a great deal about the City and its fine history. We enjoyed exploring the waterfront, historic homes, king street, rainbow row and other key parts of the city. We especially loved the time we spent at the citadel. As a former student and avid historical reader, Jon’s first hand knowledge of the campus, its traditions and its deep roots in our nations history was AMAZING! We highly recommend this tour!!!
Jon had wonderful insight and stories to tell throughout our tour. The viewing of the beautiful homes and the Citadel campus were enlightening . I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history that lines the streets of Charleston.
Mark was very accommodating with pickup and drop off locations. It was a great way to see a LOT of Charleston and to learn a bit of history. I would highly recommend this tour for those that walk long distances or struggle with heat. The air conditioned vehicle and cold water was very much appreciated.
The tour was exactly what we were hoping for. Jon was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the city and was able to make it come alive with both facts and insightful comments on historical figures and the unique architecture that was everywhere. I especially loved his personal memories of his days at the Citadel. He kept us completely entertained so that the time absolutely flew by. I was especially grateful for his immediate recognition of what my companion was really interested in and adjusting to meet her expectations. I cannot more highly recommend this tour and this tour guide.
Our guide was super hospitable and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and time together! We were able to see a lot being driven.
Jon was great. A wealth of information, tour tailored to our interests, and a great communicator. Top-notch experience.
Driver, Mark, was very knowledgeable about the area. His vehicle was clean and comfortable. He was also very pleasant and accommodating. We took his recommendation for lunch and was very satisfied!
We prearranged to be picked up and dropped off at our hotel, which saved much time and inconvenience since Charleston traffic and parking can be problematic. We chose the Charleston private sightseeing tour because we enjoy being able to travel at our own pace and adapt the sightseeing itinerary to our interests. In hindsight, this worked out extremely well. Our guide was wonderful. We were picked up in an SUV, which was immaculate and in excellent condition. Chilled bottled water was available. Our guide was a Charleston local and versed in local history, culture, folklore, customs, and current events. He quickly and adeptly adjusted his itinerary to reflect our interests. We had been to Charleston before so our tour guide omitted sites we had previously visited and focused on those that had not. A half-day tour allowed us to explore leisurely, including through better known tourist areas as well as backstreets frequented only by locals. It was a great overview of historic Charleston and historic neighborhoods, as well as the older areas of Mount Pleasant. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants an overview of Charleston or who is considering relocating to the area.
Guide was entertaining. Too much time spent on Citadel. Not enough time spent exploring downtown historic district. Half day ended up being only 3 hours expected 4. Hours minimum.
Jon B was amazing. Can’t believe we got a Citadel grad with history major as our guide! Felt like a personal tour of The Citadel. We learned so much about the history of the city and the wonderful architecture of single and double houses and so much more. The walk through the Battery area was beautiful and Jon filled the walk with great stories. I would recommend this tour to anyone and everyone!
Enjoyed the battery and the citadel, especially with the tour guides personal history. Friendly and unassuming guide - enjoyed the experience!
My husband and I learned a great deal about the history of Charleston. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and told several interesting stories about the homes, Gullah culture, the enslaved, the Confederacy, the Citadel, and much more. There’s honestly too much to list. We really enjoyed our tour. I am pleased to know so much about Charleston history. It was great!
