The Gray Line Charleston City Sightseeing Bus Tour gives you an idea of where things are located and general description so you can then plan/schedule what you want to see
Short but perfect, Viator always comes thru, land or cruise they are perfect and have the best to save 🤷🏻♂️
Valerie was excellent as a guide. She opened our eyes to the City with non-stop, interesting information. A memorable 90 minutes.
Very good tour!! Lots of sites and information on history!
The bus driver was very knowledgeable about the information she gave us and did an awesome job. We saw a lot of the Charleston history.
John was VERY knowledgeable and knew so much history. It was amazing. I'm a "Southerner" born and bred (and proud of it). I was amazed at the amount of the South's history John knew being from Pennsylvania. He had the incredible ability to read his audience (from all different states) and how to make all of us feel like we were "one" group. He kept us "entertained" with a mixture of history, anecdotes and just plain old being who he was with personal stories. The day before it had been over 83 degrees and suddenly, the weather dropped that day about 30 degrees. There was much good natured laughter about trying to get the "air/heat" adjusted to the weather with a mixed group of people who are used to cold weather and those who were sweating. It was comical. We had folks wanting air off and others wanting it back on as they couldn't take the heat. It added to fun of the tour. I don't usually do bus tours (prefer walking tours). However, we'll definitely be back. I hope I have the opportunity to have John as our guide again. Thank you!
Our guide John was fantastic and knew a ton of local facts. I also loved how he takes walks in the neighborhoods and gets facts from people that live there about home history and recent renovations.
We are older & this saved us from the tremendous amount of walking we would have done. Also being air-conditioned helped.
This is a fun, informative tour of Charleston. I learned a ton of information that I would never have known if we had not taken this tour. Totally worth it!
Bus was nice, cool and clean but tour guide mumbled, was not very smooth, and failed to point out locations he did speak about.
This is a nice introduction tour of the city of Charleston. A lot of information and general descriptions so that you can see what is here.
Great tour of the Peninsula. A lot of history to see. we especially love the drive-through of the Citadel military Academy.
Guide was informative and delightful. Good overview of Charleston providing a great starting point for further exploration.
It was a steady pace with lots of information and insights about the city's history. It was great to be in air conditioning and be able to cover a lot of ground in the van.
Our Driver John was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, and polite
Great way to learn where things are in Charleston.Traveling by bus was so convenient. Meeting at the bus station was perfect.
If you are a history buff, this tour will definitely fit the bill. The guide provided some fascinating insights and was very entertaining.
Great historical and architectural education of my new hometown. Our driver was very knowledgeable and a proud Charlestonian! I recommend this experience and will more than likely bring my family and friends when they come to visit.
This tour was very informative, in a comfortable, air-conditioned grayline mini bus - on a hot, humid day. I learned a lot about the history of the city and about many of the churches and mansions. I highly recommend this tour and our tour guide (even though I don't remember his name.)
Good historical tour with live narration. We missed the tour (and were quickly rebooked), the pick up point is not on the street with the address on the wall, it’s in the bus area associated with the visitors bldg. we googled the address, stood there and saw the bus leave. That’s how we figured it out.
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Michael was great. Highly recommend!
We were excited to get out of the heat for the 90 minute tour. Some interesting facts were shared including architectural history. Also a good discussion and explanation of the different neighborhoods was worthwhile. What was missing however was a discussion of the history of slavery including the fact that 40% of all the slave trade was through Charleston. No mention of the stately urban plantations being built on the backs of slaves. Other than a mention of the “slave culture” and utility out buildings including “slave houses” there was no insight into the full history of Charleston. Nor did we see the location of the slave markets or ports for slave ships. It would have been interesting to also hear about the important civil rights actions in the city.
Very informative and enjoyable tour of Charleston along with interesting historic info about the houses and founders of Charleston. The driver was funny and engaging.
Outstanding tour, very interesting , informative in a very entertaining way Laughed and learned the whole time
Guide had an encyclopedic knowledge of the history and architecture of Charleston which was impressive but delivered it without any real spark. Pickup location very convenient and well set up. Bus seats weren’t very comfortable. I’d look for hop on/off option next time but was a great way to see a lot in a short visit.
We had a wonderful tour of historic Charleston with Bonnie as our guide. This was our first time in Charleston, and we really learned a lot about the history of the city as well as enjoying all the architecture and sights we saw on our tour. Bonnie’s extensive knowledge and professionalism made this a most memorable experience.
Our guide Valerie knew her history and was very funny. She taught us a lot and made this a fun tour.
John was an excellent tour guide an knowledgeable. He made the tour fun. For a good experience, Viator
Our guide was fantastic! I think his name was Ed. He was so knowledgeable & great with answering questions. I would definitely go on another tour with him
Very informative. I learned a lot. I hated history in school but have learned to love it. The old homes were beautiful.
Nice and relaxing tour Al was very knowledgeable with the history of Charleston
The bus air conditioner was great as well as our driver/guide. Very knowledgeable and funny. Great tour
John was engaging and certainly knew his Charleston history! Took us to the most important parts of the city and gave us a good overview.
Very informative. Driver had lots of info at his fingertips and was able to deliver dates and facts while maneuvering that bus through some tight spaces.
Went with my husband and two teens for a quick and informative tour of Charleston via (well air conditioned) bus tour of all the main sights. While we didn’t stop to get off, our tour guide pulled off for a quick photo from the bus. Hit all the highlights, recommendations for later stops. Definitely beat the heat and saw the city. Worth your 90 minutes!
This is a very nice and relaxing tour of the city. A carriage ride would have been a great way to view the city but we opted for a vehicle with air-conditioning which was very convenient for summer. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and per my husband had great driving skills!
The host was boring and was not all that friendly. I would chop it up to it being the end of the day and he was tired
Very knowledgeable and friendly, John C was an excellent guide.
Our Guide was fantastic. Very Knowledgeable
Good way to see an overview of the city. Economical and informative.
Your guide was great. I like that the tour was not scripted.. The tour guy was very knowledgeable and let us ask as many questions as we wanted.
Great tour of city! Our tour guide was a super drive and a had a treasure trove of information for us! Absolutely worth it on your first visit to Charleston .
Tour guide was very informative about the history of Charleston. Saw a lot of nice older homes and heard stories about battles and pirates. Had a great time!
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Hope the other tour guides are just as good.
Fun guide, interesting information
Our tour guide was very good but the tour itself was not what I thought it would be. Our first impression was the bus we got on at the start of the tour was cramped and had minimal AC and it was HOT out. The tour guide said she was not given a great bus that day and was not concerned that we were all sweltering for the 40 minute drive to the plantation. The plantation and what we toured was small and unimpressive. There were no beautiful gardens to speak of. No florals, just greenery. The tram ride through the property had a very stern driver who kept telling people to pay attention. There was not much to see except trees and swamp and was so incredibly buggy with mosquitos that we came away with so many bites. It was very unpleasant. The house is not what we expected. Not grand and beautiful and it was small and plain. The tour guide there, Brian, was knowledgeable and the house was filled with original items from the past and that part was interesting. Plus it was the only place on the property that had AC and it was a relief to get out of the heat. We then boarded the bus we took to the plantation for the drive back with bad AC after spending 5 hours out in the extreme heat and that was not acceptable. All in all, not sure I would recommend this tour. I was not impressed with the content.
Our guide was very informative never stopped talking about the area and still drove very safely. He pointed out a lot of interesting. Architect and buildings knew a lot of information.
It was ok! Could been more information about the history of Charleston and land marks! He was a really nice man! But, think the person who doing the tour needs to be from Charleston!
Our tour guide (12pm tour on July 1st) was hilarious. She made the tour very enjoyable. She made the tour. 5 stars for her.
