Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour From Hilton Head

Captain Andy Kennedy was great. Funny, engaging and a true historian who related the facts of the area history in a story like nature. I would highly recommend him and the guided tour to anyone wanting to learn about Daufuskie Island as well as Hilton Head Island!

We had a great experience and learned a lot about Daufuskie Is. from Captain Andy. His narration was detailed and thoughtful. I only regret not having a chance to sample a Scrap Iron cocktail. I enjoyed piloting one of our group’s golf carts. Mahalo, Captain Kennedy.

WOW! From the moment he greeted the group, Captain Andy felt like a friend. His knowledge of the history of Hilton Head, South Carolina Lowcountry, Daufuskie Island, and the Gullah culture was extensive. He delivered the information in a conversational way that kept everyone's attention. He patiently answered questions, and stopped for the group to watch a pod of dolphins. It was a wonderful tour!

Captain Dean Hager was excellent. He piloted the boat safely and comfortably. His knowledge of the area was focused on environment, history, culture and the progression of those elements to shape what we saw. He was personable and not pushy. A great tour!

Boo is an excellent tour guide. He has a wealth of knowledge about the history of this area and especially Daufuskie.

Capt. Dean was a great guide. He knew all our names, explained things in an interesting way, loved to answer questions and made the trip over and back and interesting ride. You could feel he loves what he does. The sites on Duafuske had such rich history and wasn't just the tourist spots. Loved the whole day.

Captain Andy, Did an awesome job with the history of the Island. The boat ride was pleasant with water provided if anyone needed some. Overall, my group was please with the guided tour and they appreciated the history lessons along the way.

This is a great tour that combines history, a relaxing boat ride and great scenery. The guide, Andy, is one of the best we have ever had. He clear,y has a great love and knowledge about the Hilton Head / Dumfauskie area and the changes that have occurred in the region over the centuries. It is definitely worth the time and money involved.

You’ll learn about the history of the island, which is very interesting. Dean, our captain and tour guide, was amazing. Very knowledgable & personable. Due to the length of the tour, you’ll only see a portion of the island. What you do see is interesting and gives you a sense of how people lived in the past, and a view of how normal people live there today. You will not see the HOA communities. Dean did stop during the boat ride over so we could see dolphins. He also shared facts about Hilton Head and the surrounding islands.

Great information from our guide Andy! Enjoyed learning and seeing some Gullah culture. Indigo demonstration was outstanding. Bought some lovely soaps!

Captain Dean was a bevy of information. He was full of anll kinds of Gullah history and shared it with a sense of humor. He pointed out wildlife, and we even saw a bald eagle and a bald eagle nest. We had time to shop and get coffee. We learned about indigo dye and got the history of the church. It was a wonderful experience

Captain Andy was our guide and was superb. He is an encyclopedia of history of the area and the island. Stories he shared were fascinating. He is definitely committed to factual integrity, broad and deep details, and honoring the memory of those who tried to make equality the way of life for all. Plus the boat ride was fun and the views spectacular. Didn’t end up driving our own golf cart - which was what we had expected- but just as well. Those “roads” are not fun to navigate. Much happier being a passenger. I would call this a must-do priority when visiting the area.

Real enjoyed the trip. Dean was our guide and he was very good. I highly recommend him. Interesting history of the area. Saw lots of dolphins too. The island is a step back in time. You do your sightseeing by golf cart, which is fun too. An hour boat trip each way, full sun sp plan for that. Would do again.

This was a great outing for us! Captain Dean was a great boat captain and very knowledgeable tour guide. He infused our whole tour with the right amount of history, local knowledge and customer care. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Hilton Head Island. It was well worth the time and the expense.

Great ratio of visitors to guides (9 to 1 in our case). Our guide, Capt Kelly was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the region, and the community on Defuskie. Presented the information in a very easy to understand and fair manner. Lots of interesting and personal experiences.

It was excellent. The boat captain knew his history knew his boat knew the area. He was an absolute delight. And he was fun. I would highly recommend this tour.

Captain Kellie was the best, very informative, good sense of humor too. He gave a lot of history on boat ride there. Enjoyed watching the dolphins play. On the island, again, he was a wealth of knowledge.

We boarded a Boston Whaler for the trip to the Island - about 1/3 the way there, the clouds were black and we turned back to the harbor. We were all soaked and it continued to rain. My disappointment is they offered to rebook or a refund. When we asked for a refund it was 70% - so we lost $81 for the two of us. Everyone else on our boat also took a refund.

Andy our tour guide and captain did a fabulous job on our tour. The tour was very educational and Andy was engaging and provided an awesome experience.

I had never been to Daufuskie and wanted an all inclusive experience so I could just relax. Pickup was a a convenient location as we were staying near Shelter Cove. Boo was a great guide and shred tons of interesting information.

Excellent tour of the island with several stops at historical sites. Guide was excellent… well versed in the island’s history. The church building was impressive as well as the Gullah history. The boat ride is about an hour… along the way we spotted several pods of dolphins. Definitely put this on your to do list!

Great experience. Our Captain was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He gave us opportunities to ask questions and was very interactive.

Capt. Andy was great! Highlight for me was meeting SallieAnn Robinson at the local coffeehouse. Google her. She should be on the tour company’s payroll. She is an absolute gem! This tour is a must if you enjoy history!
