This is our second concert with the Sound of Charleston and both of them were exceptional. The evening is nonstop entertainment that offers a wide variety of music for any taste. On both occasions we took out of town guests and each of them raved about the evening. As an added attraction, the historic church is beautiful and a walk through the cemetery is interesting history. Definitely a must see. We will be going again.

In this 250th anniversary year of the American Revolution and the country’s birth, we invite you to come listen to the music that has been so much a part of America’s…and Charleston’s history. From classical music heard at St Cecelia Society concerts in 1766-1820, to gospel music sung by enslaved Africans from time of the Revolution through the Civil War, spirituals from the American Revolution through the Civil War s, to jazz and Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” in the 1900’s, music has helped define the past with all its struggles and triumphs. This will educate, entertain, and evoke emotions as you experience the city and the country’s musical heritage.

"There were 9 in our group, and everyone loved the entire show. every performer was absolutely amazing.
So very glad that a friend told me about this right before heading to Charleston .... it was a great musical treat and also great story telling. I would recommend it to any and everyone. I was with my sister and two other ladies and we all four thoroughly enjoyed the show!
We learned about this from a flyer at the visitor center. All the performers were truly talented. It was a nice mix of musical styles. Everything moved right along, and the host was quite entertaining as well without being overbearing. The church is a beautiful space and acoustically lovely. A very enjoyable event and just the right length.
We bought tickets on a whim after seeing the banner outside the church that hosts the concert. It proved to be one of the most spontaneous and fun decisions of our trip. The Bright Family Singers were an absolute highlight. The theme of the show on the evening we went was 250 years of history told through song. The MC is a talented and engaging host and musician, the crowd is invited to participate (don't be scared - you don't leave your seat) and the event felt like we arrived in a community. It's not overly fancy or produced...just very authentic and fun. My only wish was that there was a little more from the Bright Family as I didn't want it to end! The time of the show was 7-8pm, which was perfect. Not too early...not too late.
Lovely voices and talented piano players. A little over an hour. Most attendees were the 60+ crowd. I have teenagers and they didn’t end up coming which ended up being good. This performance is geared for an older crowd to appreciate the most.
The Sounds of Charleston concert was one of our favorite experiences while in Charleston for a sibling reunion. The variety and quality of talent we heard that evening was not only memorable but was presented in an intimate manor that made you feel very connected to the performance rather than just one of many ticket buyers. I would recommend the concert to anyone who wants to learn some local history while listening to some amazing and fun music.
What a wonderful performance by all the very talented entertainers that performed. It was just a last minute spur of the moment decision to attend. I highly recommend others to see this group of performers. They are spectacular.
A captivating 1-1/4 hour! The four of us can’t say enough about how professional, informative and entertaining. Our advice…..don’t miss it! We will return!
This is our second time for this specific program, and we enjoy it so much. All performers are wonderful and ready to share their joy for the season. The cost of admission is very reasonable, and you should enjoy the atmosphere in the circular church.
A soulful concert with great performances showcasing musical styles over 250 years. I stayed over in Charleston longer than planned, and this concert was one of the highlights of my trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Sound of Charleston show. The musical time line was very interesting and the talent was phenomenal!
Amazing range of locally-inspired music by very talented musicians. My favorites were the soprano numbers and the gospel trio.
We planned a night out with family during the holidays and a friend had recommended this show. The experience was fabulous, from the greeters and a reco on where to sit. It’s a perfect amount of music and history. And these talented artists are gifted. Our favorites were the Bright family with their moving Gospel music and Rhapsody in Blue performed brilliantly on the piano. A must see for locals and visitors
This performance was so unexpected and beautiful and heartwarming and thoughtfully put together. Highly recommend!
We enjoyed the concert. Learned a little bit of history. The voices (soprano soloist at the beginning, and gospel family at the end) were especially good. Very talented.
The quality of entertainment and music was so good! It gets better all the time and the finale with the Family singing was just incredible
Charleston offers many great experiences to visitors, but I must say - after 2 visits there - this is the best! The musical choices are appropriate, the musicians are PRO with a capital “P” and the audience gets into the performance.
The Sound of Charleston was the highlight of our 5 day Charleston trip! The performers were brilliant! We felt uplifted, joyful and mesmerized all at the same time. The Circular Congregational Church is a beautiful venue. Lots of standing ovations for the music and singing. Highly recommend.
Very enjoyable performance. Amazing music worthy of standing ovation! And beautiful venue. If I'm ever back in Charleston, would do it again
Outstanding show. Great music choice and perfirmances. Delivered by people who care for what they are doing and it shows. Do not miss it!
Nice show.....had something for everyone from opera arias to negro spirituals. Nice segment that encouraged crowd participation.
We had walked by the Circular Church many times over many visits to Charleston but had never been inside. So it was a double pleasure when we realized the Sounds Of Charleston was presented there - a beautiful building and wonderful performances of a variety of musical styles that are a timeline of Charleston. The host/narrator had erudite Southern charm and wove together a well-paced program of talented musicians that was both stirring and, at times, emotional. Highly recommended.
Excellent educational program that brings the history of Charleston to life! My 85-year-old grandmother and 11-year-old daughter both enjoyed it, and we learned a lot.
So good and resonably priced!! Variety of music, professionally done, fantastic singers/musicians, beautiful venue!
This should be a must-see in Charleston. The show is performed by very talented performers and has a broad range of appeal. Add to that the fact that, with music, it recaps 300 years of Charleston's history in an hour and fifteen minutes. And, it was inside a beautiful and historic church.
My group of friends didn't know what to expect and we were enthralled with this performance. My rating of the performers' talent is top-knotch and it could not have been more enjoyable. The venue is so gorgeous and the acoustics were wonderful, although the pews could use some padding. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Charleston. We went on our last night and it was "the cherry on the top". A great value for the money, too.
After reading the description and reviews my husband and I were really looking forward to the evening. We were pretty disappointed. The talent was really good but we were surprised that only about 6 people were involved, a few of which carried the whole show. We expected to be wowed by group performances and many song choices that reached a crescendo. The exuberant host broke up each act with shouted descriptions of each era ruining the flow and the mood. Well actually there was no mood. The very bright lights of the church glared throughout the performances making it feel like a recital rather than a show. Dimmed lights and a few spots would have greatly helped. Amazing Grace was the last song performed, a song that never fails to move me. Well this one fell flat. Having said all this I do have to give cudos to the two piano players who played Rhapsody in Blue!
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The acoustics in the church were excellent, and when Ghadi Shayban made the music swell as he played the piano, I nearly had an out of body experience! The small audience venue was perfect and we had a lot of fun, singing along with the folk song portion (although I had to admit to my girlfriend that I had never heard of goober peas!), and Lorena brought tears to my eyes. I was enchanted by the duet by Mr. Shayban and Ms Libkin, Rhapsody in Blue. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Charleston.
Every performer exceptional and exceeded expectations - as good as Broadway performers but the smaller more intimate settings made it more engaging and meaningful. It was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston.
We loved this event! The emcee was great, so entertaining! We learned some Charleston history and heard great music. The rendition of Amazing Grace gave me chills; highly recommend this event! This was a gem and true highlight of our trip!
A wonderful way to spend an evening in Charleston. The performances blew us away. The way in which they were presented via a sort of walk through the history of Charleston was an unexpected bonus.
Fabulous performance. We all agreed it was a highlight of our trip. The vocalists and pianists were superb. Well worth adding to your Charleston experience!
We decided to visit Charleston again, but at Christmas time this year. We stumbled upon The Sound Of Charleston and so glad we did! The church is beautiful and the performances were beautiful. Truly enjoyed ourselves!
The singing was amazing. The MC William Schlitt was excellent, he gave great history on the different songs. They had a fantastic mixture of music and it was delightful. They did a wonderful job of engaging the audience with having them sing along on some songs. This was a very nice evening. The singers and pianists know their craft, excellent performances from, Opera, Spirituals, Gershwin, Civil War music. Worth the price. Parking garage across the street. Leslie
What a wonderful way to spend an evening and even learn a few things while being entertained. The Sound of Charleston was delightful. The musicians and singers were very talented and accomplished performers. The Circular Congregational Church is a lovely venue with great acoustics. The show is 70 minutes long.
My husband and I attend the production of "The Sound of Charleston". What an exquisite event to attend. The music and the singers were exceptional. An amazing cast with voices that echoed in the halls of the church. The musicians were amazing to listen to and watch as they played and sang. The last piece played at the piano, was called " Rhapsody in Blue" was electrifying!!!! Such amazing talent! As the show went on, the narrator of the event, spoke of the history of Charleston and its musical environment. What an amazing show. It was moving, exciting, breathtaking and so inspiring. Its a MUST SEE!!!
The show far exceeded our expectations. It was educational and entertaining. The musicians are talented with impressive backgrounds and experiences. I will plan to attend the show again the next time I’m in Charleston.
An excellent evening of history and music in a beautiful Circular Church. All performers were professional and very talented. This was a memorable evening and one not to be missed in the Charleston area.
A wonderful experience. A broad range of musical offerings. We especially loved the gospel music! I recommend this to any visitors to the region.
