Gordon was an amazing guide! He knew so much about the history of the city and the restaurants. The food was delicious! It was a wonderful way to try multiple places for a short visit to Charleston. Would definitely do again!

Our guide Caitlin was amazing, a friendly, very kind but this was most definitely not seafood heavy and very disappointing from the other food tours I’ve experience with that company.
Small group. Excellent food. Even better commentary from Gordon. He brings in food expertise as well as Charleston history and flavor.
I had a wonderful time on this Food tour. The food was outstanding — the shrimp & grits were a real highlight, and the she-crab soup was the best I’ve tasted anywhere in the Lowcountry. Andrew, our guide, brought everything to life with his stories, local insights, and easy sense of humor. He created such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that people naturally started chatting, connecting, and even exchanging cards by the end. It felt like the perfect balance of great food, interesting history, and genuinely good company.
My girls' group did a walking food tour with Diane of Bulldog Tours, and it was fabulous! You get a little history and inside stories, as well as tasting a range of local fare. Highly recommend!
We try to do a food tour whenever we visit Charleston, and this time we chose the Upper King. We were not disappointed. Our guide Gordon was friendly and full of information about the food, restaurants, and history. The portions were delicious and filling. Would definitely recommend.
We had an incredible time on the Savor the Flavors tour of Downtown Charleston with Bulldog Tours! From the very beginning, they impressed us with thoughtful touches—like providing water before we even started walking. Every stop on the tour was welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. We left full, happy, and completely stuffed! Our tour guide, Lisa, was fantastic. She brought Charleston’s rich culinary history to life by connecting the dishes we were tasting to the stories and culture behind them. Her knowledge, energy, and warm personality made the experience both educational and entertaining. The entire experience was first-class. If you're visiting Charleston (or even if you live here!), I highly recommend this tour. Come hungry—you won’t be disappointed!
It was a well done food tour, led by Nancy. We loved the restaurants and food samplings. It was actually almost enough for a meal by the time you got done! Our favorite was Virginia’s, especially Tim ? the manager. It would have been nice to do a small sampling (for those who wanted) of ourbon at the last stop. I would have even paid $5-10 for a limited flight. Also terrific to see Upper King Street, which we would not have, had we not done this food tour.
Nancy was a fantastic guide! Good stories and history at each stop. Not an extreme amount of walking and a good variety of foods
Our guide was great.delicious food and plentiful amount.enjoyed the guides story of history about Charleston. Recommend.
Nancy our tour guide (and Diane who was shadowing her) were awesome! Their knowledge of Charleston history was immense! They were friendly knowledgeable and helpful. We would happily go on another tour with either of them!
Jack was a great guide. So much history about Charleston along with great food. We are so glad we did this tour. Would highly recommend this tour
Super great tour guide. Gordon was knowledgeable and very personable. Food was excellent and a good variety of dishes for the area.
Absolutely hands down the best food tour I have taken. Nancy was and is a fabulous lady! I have already told my other friends I want to take them on this tour. Great food choices.
I recently did the Upper King Street Food Tour with Bulldog Tours, and it was fantastic! Nancy, our guide, was wonderful—so knowledgeable and fun. We sampled classic Charleston dishes like shrimp and grits, and the portions were really generous. The blend of history and food was perfect, and I left both full and with a deeper appreciation for the city’s culinary scene. Highly recommend it!
This is definitely a 5 star food tour! Andrew was our guide ( former history teacher). He was entertaining as well as knowledgeable! The food was delicious with generous portions. Thank You!!
Franny was so knowledgeable and funny!!! She had a story for every restaurant we eat at along the tour. The stories were full of the rich Charleston history good and bad…as all history is so that we don’t repeat the past! The food was well-rounded and delicious! We would do it again in a heart beat!!
So much fun to mix a narrative of Charleston's culinary history while enjoying a few small plates in selected restaurants.
Fran was an excellent tour guide providing lots of culinary history !!! The food and restaurants were excellent !!! A lovely day with a little rain but such a fun experience!!! The mussels at Rue DE Jean were some of the best we have ever had !!!
Excellent culinary tour! Faith was fabulous & knew so much not only about the food, but the culture & history as well. We have taken Bull Dog tours in the past, & we will continue to take them in the future. We have also recommended Bull Dog to others! The food choices were great & local affaire which was great for friends that had not been to Charleston before. Portions were very generous! Thanks for a great experience!!
Our tour guide, Faith, was so personable and knowledgeable about the history of Charleston intertwining the many cultures of the city with the origins of food and language. The tasting were delicious and filling. A must if you haven’t been to Charleston.
Our guide Nancy was terrific. Learned a lot about Charleston. Who knew the grits here were so good and much better than in the rest of the world.
This was such a great experience. The food was awesome and we got more than we expected. Diane was super knowledgeable and friendly we highly recommend doing this tour
So Delicious! Great small group tour that touched on all the great Charleston cuisine. Nancy was an amazing guide with tons of knowledge.
Very fun tour! Tour guide was very knowledgeable…loved the restaurants we went to! Will go back next time in Charleston!
Diane was wonderful and knew what she was talking about! We absolutely enjoyed our tour with her and wanted to book another one but ran out of time. We will be back! Thank you so much Diane!!
Excellent guide who was very knowlegeable about history, the specific restaurants, and food:he is a former chef! Generous portions of very good food, not at all rushed. The only suggestion would be to include one start up restaurant, maybe with a non traditional dish? Easy walking, restaurants were ready for us, very well organized.
On our girls trip this Savor the Flavor tour was our favorite thing! The food was amazing but our tour guide was hands down the best one we have had! Faith was so knowledgeable, nice, and funny. I highly recommend this tour.
Loved this food walking tour! Our guide Jade was funny and knowledgeable! I learned a lot while still having fun. Definitely would do this again.
One of our favorite activities in Charleston, interesting facts along the way and fabulous food and cocktails - what could be better. Our guide was funny interesting and gracious.
What absolutely made the tour was our tour guide Nancy. She was adorable and provided us with plenty of historical and fun facts about Charleston. I would definitely go on another tour with her! As for the food tour itself, we went to 4 restaurants. I likely wouldn't have picked these restaurants if I was just yelping on my own, but the food was decent and it was nice to be able to sample local specialties from a few different spots. My biggest complaint is that we were told that the restaurants would accommodate food (gluten) allergies. Usually you take that to mean that the restaurant will try to provide you with something similar to the featured item. 3 of the 4 restaurants were great. But the 2nd restaurant on the tour made no effort to replicate the main item (she-crab soup) and gave me a very basic salad. That was a bit disappointing.
Lacie had a great understanding of the food that was prepared for us at each stop on the tour and knew a lot about each restaurant we visited.
Gordon was a great guide. Lots of King street history and the stories behind the restaurant along with great talks about the food. We went to 4 places with the last being dessert. I didn’t take pictures at the first place. All of it was wonderful. 100% would recommend.
It was fun learning the history of the restaurant as well as enjoying the food! Our guide was informative.
We had a wonderful time doing the food tour. Gordon our guide was fabulous. It was educational and delicious and we would definitely recommend!
The Upper King Street Walking Food Tours was really nice. We enjoyed the delicious food and the history of the area. I would recommend it. Virginia on King Street Restaurant was definitely a treat! Cornbread to die for-fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. Yum!
Gordon was a fabulous guide. Being a past chef he provided detailed information about the traditional Southern foods we tasted. The historic information he passed to us was both interesting and thought provoking. We tasted a variety of foods and the flavors were spot on.
Another fun morning with bulldog tours!! Donna was a fun and informative guide and the food was delicious!
Food was incredible ! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the group very comfortable. We had the best time !
Jack did a great job! Enjoyed the food and the tour! Very well done! I would recommend it. The shrimp and grits, cornbread, she grab soup and even the french fries were delicious.
My husband and i LOVE food tours! this is a must do for any place we travel too. This food tour was good. I definitely have had better but was still good. Tour operator was definitely more mellow. Had good history to share. Food we tried was ok, and everything was local and close.
First , I need to compliment Blake with the highest honors possible. We were on the Charleston Stroll with Blake, and then we had Blake on the Savor the Flavors Food Tour. Blake is so polite and checks on his customers at each stop, making sure they are ok. Blake , a witty, funny guy but an “old soul” with the wealth of knowledge he has about Charleston! A smart dresser, quick thinker and a great people person who loves to share his city with everyone. Blake guided us to 5 different restaurants, shared highlights as we walked to these establishments and then we enjoyed everything from creamy Charleston grits, popcorn with salted truffle oil, She-Crab Soup, fried green tomatoes, French cookies and chocolates. Blake is very familiar with these restaurants but he also is very knowledgeable about many places so he is able to give great suggestions. When the tour comes to an end, you want to rush and sign up with Bulldog Tours for another tour with BLAKE!
Meagan was well versed in Charleston history. Mouth watering food presentations. Food was delicious. We got samples to take with us.
Loved the tour guide Very informative and friendly. Before going on the tour I tried to find out more information concerning the tour. Number of restaurants etc. Was not successful. I believe the cost of $95.00 for 4 restaurants was excessive. Especially when the first course consisted on only 3 little squares of shrimp and chicken sandwiches with a deviled egg and tea. The remaining dishes were good.
Upper King Street Savor the Flavor Walking Tour. We had the most amazing tour and tour guide, Blake. Whatever you do, don’t pass this tour up. Blake provided incredible entertaining accounts and insights to Charleston’s history and gastronomic pursuits. Blake was incredibly entertaining and enthusiastic! Thanks!
Blake was an incredible tour guide. He is born and raised in Charleston and therefore provided detailed information about the city, history and cuisine. He also recommended additional restaurants, bars and food scenes to us to enhance our Charleston trip. I loved that we visited an old historic house and learned about its history as well. If you are a true foodie, tour with Blake, he will not disappoint!! And of course the food was delicious. Best corn bread I’ve ever had, and amazing she-crab soup!
When it comes to travel, food tours are my favorite way to explore a new city. With that said, this tour was my 9th food tour and was by far the worst I've been on. The food was mediocre at best and was briefly described and losely connected to the history of Charleston. The establishments we visited appeared to be random restaraunts with little importance to Charleston, with the exception to the first stop (a homestead that served cold sandwhiches on the porch). The food consisted of: shrimp and chicken salad sandwhich triangles (cheap white bread and the thinnest layer of flavorless salad), deviled eggs (again flavorless), a few benne wafers (good), muscles (okay), french fries (on a food tour, really??), she crab soup (okay), pimento cheese (not good), and opera cake (good). The tour guide was clearly knowledgeable and smart, but just dumped a ton of history on us for long durations without adding any form of audience engagment (no humor, no questions for us, no comments to connect us to his stories, etc...). At one point he stopped and said something like, "I know I just dumped a lot on you, I'll give you a few minutes to let your brains digest that." I am a teacher, and he could have done way more to engage his audience of four. It felt like I was in a boring college lecture (and after talking privately to the other three participants, they felt the same). Overall, our tour guide was friendly and clearly knowldegable, but I would call this experience a "history lecture with some snacks."
Extremely friendly & Informative tour guide named Gordon. He provided a great history of both the lowcountry food as well as the history of the city of Charleston itself. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience!
We had a pretty good time, its more of a history/food tour more on the history than food, food extremely small portions not worth $190 for me and my wife, and they could shorten the tour by 1 hour and still not be rushed we had a lot of awkward down time
We participated in the King Street food tour led by Zach on June 25. Zach traces his family history to the Charleston area through many generations over at least a couple centuries, so we felt immediately that we were getting an authentic insight into the history and cuisine of Charleston. Zach has such a welcoming, pleasant demeanor and a genuine passion and knowledge of history. His information and guidance was the best part of our great tour experience. Other reviews might go into more detail, but we stopped at four or five locations to sample small portions of local dishes of particular significance. Zach's informal commentary throughout the tour gave us such a great perspective into how the ingredients made their way to South Carolina and how the dishes came about. It lent a color (and taste) to the local history in a way that other walking tours might not. This tour was one of the highlights of our 5-day stay in Charleston, and we would HIGHLY recommend this one or one of the other food tours with Bulldog Tours.
