The history behind this old working plantation is really interesting. There are a lot of southern plantations that may be more beautiful, but the families and businesses operated here make this plantation different. Good to know it is in a trust for future generations!
Great opportunity to view a southern plantation which has evolved from the days of slavery to a modern working farm keeping history in place.
Very interesting and worthwhile. The mansion is not an old historic one and built in the 1930s. So this was a disappointment but all other structures from 1800s. Learned a lot about the history of this estate: brick making, slavery, farming. The long entrance to the site is beautiful. Property in excellent condition. Make the trip would be my suggestion.
We spent close to 4 hours at the Boone Hall Plantation and we thoroughly enjoyed this visit. It was a beautiful day, the weather was amazing and we learned a lot about the history of Charleston. We highly recommend this tour!
Great plantation tour. Everything is included in the ticket price. Wonderful value! Beautiful live oaks!!
Very interesting. Knowledgeable staff. Beautiful grounds.
Must see in Charleston - different from just the city! Beautiful and good history
Second trip to Boone hall. Enjoyed it again. Amazing location. Enjoyed the wagon tour also. Pretty sure family enjoyed also.
The tour guides are excellent and provide great commentary on the history of the plantation. They are not dry and provide a lively and easily understandable visit.
Lovely day at Boone Hall. Not a lot to the house tour as you only get to see a few rooms on the main floor. Took the tractor pulled wagon ride and got lots of information about the farm itself. The avenue of oaks is spectacular.
Fantastic all round experience! All the tours are well timed and well laid out for visitors. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable of the history of the plantation and its all the working parts then and now. The Gullah Geechee presentation was top notch and so moving!
We had a fantastic time. For the money you can’t go wrong. We spent 3.5 hours at Boone hall with our daughter and I was so happy with the time spent.
Wonderful experience. Tour guide, Jeff, was outstanding. The price was reasonable and the grounds were beautiful. Two hours were plenty of time for a visit.
A fantastic trip back in history. Everyone was so helpful, polite, and informative. The weather helped the experience be that much better, but that’s a crap shoot. The Cafe had the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever eaten in my life and I’d go back again just for that! This is a must do experience and allot plenty of time to attended experiences and so you can explore on your own.
I had half a travel day and found this historic plantation tour. So much history great staff. The weather was great for the tour.
Beautiful home, full of history. There were many things to see and do. Lots of educational speakers , all around the property, speaking about different topics in history. The train ride around the property was amazing.
This is a good option to not only see and hear about plantation history, but also see how they have maintained a working farm for many, many years. Produce is available for purchase nearby. Best strawberries ever!
The Plantation was beautiful and very well maintained and the informational talks were informative and interesting. The only disappointment was the actual mansion tour only included part of the downstairs areas. It did not include the kitchen or any of the bedrooms. However, the lady that gave the mansion tour was knowledgeable land the tractor ride through the plantation was fabulous. It was definitely worth a visit, and we were so happy to hear that the property eventually will be in a trust so as not to be sold to developers.
Beautiful plantation. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful garden.
The plantation home was interesting with period furniture etc. wagon ride was very informative. The lady at the Slavs quarters was the highlight of the tour. It was really moving.
A great way to see how large plantation properties looked and operated. Loved the main house and the amazing avenue of Oaks.
Very well run. Many guides available to answer questions. All employees well educated about the property. Would recommend!
Loved our visit to Boone Hall. The house and the property is gorgeous. I loved hearing about the history of the home and the gulla gulla people. So happy to learn about the farm's conservation easement and all the crops grown. Excellent docents.
Great experience. Very informative. The only negative was the house tour was limited to the lower level and excluded the kitchen, butlers pantry, etc. No access to second story. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Kept things light and funny.
A must see during your travels. I am planning another trip so that I can bring my daughter. If you enjoy guided tours or just touring spaces on your own, this is the place for you. I would recommend this historic site to all history buffs. I enjoyed this experience and look forward to returning. It was very enjoyable and enlightening.
The highlights for us was the Gullah–Geechee woman and the slave houses.
Gullah presentation was the best part! Definitely a must if visiting the Charleston area. The other parts were nice, home tour, tour of the grounds, but the history of the enslaved and Gullah were the highlights.
What a great day The tours and guides were outstanding Highly recommend Didn’t expect to spend 6 hours but didn’t want to miss a thing Have a small cafe on site if you need a sandwich or salad Worth every penny
Fabulous! So much to see and learn about the culture of the times. All the guides were knowledgeable and each tour was timed so that we could go from one presentation to another allowing us to see the plantation in its entirety. I’ve been on several plantation tours since moving here a year ago and I rank this #1.
Tour was as I expected! I enjoyed learning about the history of this city. I will be sure to tell anyone visiting Charleston about this tour!
Beautiful area with a lot of history! Must see, for all ages. Representatives were very friendly which made it even better.
We thoroughly enjoyed the guide’s presentations on our visit. While some of the subjects are disturbing, it is important that we preserve the history and learn from it.
Our group really enjoyed the tour and learning about the plantation. We enjoyed the tractor ride and our guide was very informative.
The drive up the tree lined driveway to the mansion is just beautiful. We learned so much history about the plantation and the way of life throughout its history. The presenters and guides were outstanding in the delivery of their stories. We spent about four hours and could have stayed on longer. It was not crowded. The cost for the experience was more than worth it especially compared to other tours.
We had a great time at Boone Plantation. The grounds are beautiful and the guides were very entertaining and knowledgeable.
Beautiful way to honor those who worked the land, care for the local community (through farming and festivals and educational programs) and allow visitors to respectfully learn from the past. The gardens were beautiful!
Very fun and informative also recommend taking a carriage ride around the property
Boone Hall was a great experience! Many activities and it was all well organized. We learned a lot and left feeling many emotions. It’s a must see!
Good mix of walking and riding tour. Informed speakers and guides. Beautiful gardens! Bring your water.
It was deeply moving & educational all at the same time. The grounds are beautiful and filled with so much history. You must see the Gullah presentation
This is the second plantation we have visited while visiting Charleston. Boone Plantation was beautiful and had the most interesting Tories to hear. It is an incredible “working” farm. We were fascinated by the story of the Gullah people and the various families who owned the plantation over the years. We had lunch in the Butterfly Cafe and the food was excellent! Would highly recommend a visit to Boone Plantation.
Wear sneakers! Go early! All of the talks were informative and fun. The guides were very friendly and open.
It’s great experience with my children and family in Boon Hall! Perfect weather.
What a great experience. Learned about the plantation and it's history. Spent a good portion of the day and enjoyed every minute. This is a must see attraction if you are visiting Charleston.
Take your time and try to listen to as many talks as you can ( very well done and interesting). Great ice cream.
The plantation was so interesting !! We spent 3.5 hours exploring the village. Strongly recommend.
A good day learning how Boone Plantation has transformed throughout the years. Each guide was very informative. Only complaint is if the speaker on the tour of the grounds had his volume on a little louder due to the noise.
Had a wonderful day. Very fun, beautiful & informative. Our tour guide gentleman was absolutely wonderful. He was funny, personable and very informative. Doreen & Paul McGinty Minnesota
Thankful that I read reviews ahead of time and saved money by booking directly with Boone Hall for $27 per person with AAA discount. The plantation is privately owned and a beautiful piece of property. If you’ve never learned about the horrors of slavery, this is not the place to receive an in depth education, however it is great opportunity to see an amazing landscape. If you’d like a nice photo of the avenue of the oaks, there’s a small pull out when you enter the avenue. You can stop and get out of your car for a great photo. You may bring your own drinks and snacks, but there is a small cafe on property. One important thing to note- if you or anyone in your party has an accessibility issue, this property is not accessible. The house tour has multiple levels of steps, all of the slave houses have steps, the garden paths are brick lined and very narrow. While the grass may be able to accommodate a wheelchair or walker, the sandy roadway will not.
