Very informative historical review of slavery in America. The plantation is still a functioning farm that grows numerous crops for sale. If you are interested in history from the 1700’s through the early 1900’s this is a great way to see what life in America was like during that time period.
Our trip to Boone Plantation was amazing. From the moment we left the visitor center our guide Greg from Adventure Sightseeing was great. He gave us tons of info on the ride there. I’ve at the plantation every member of the staff was helpful and informative. The only thing is I wish we had at least one more hour to tour more of the Plantation. A must see at the plantation is the Gullah presentation, this woman is Awesome!!!! Highly recommend this tour
Beautiful grounds and tours onsite were well done and interesting.
It was very interesting and informative. The plantation was quite large and had various items that this plantation had in the past.
Extremely informative with history coming to life. Definitely worth spending the money on this visit.
Very good experience, great to see a working plantation. The farm tour, house tour and the Gullah presentations were amazing. We learned a lot about the history behind slavery which is sad . We have a better appreciation for this era. We also enjoyed the beauty of the area and saw a variety of birds. We used the transportation option which makes it seamless, bus driver Greg also gave great info.
It was all good! Wonderful experience. Everyone was so friendly and informative. But we could have used another 1/2 hr to an hour!
Fun and worthwhile adventure. Loved being transported to Boone Hall and the historic commentary along the way. Our driver and most of the guides at the plantation were excellent. House tour was a little too much humor and not a lot of substance. The Gullah presentation and history was outstanding and what we were looking for. Boone Hall is a lovely setting with an extensive history we enjoyed hearing about.
Great tour about the area on the way and a great run down of what to do while we were at Boone Hall!
Lots of history at this plantation. The Gullah Theater presentation was amazing. I’m not sure the 3 hour allotted time was enough to really see and experience everything. Overall a good experience.
This part of the review is on the Plantation portion only and not on the transportation or driver Anderson…. We enjoyed our visit to the Boone Plantation. My favorite part was the Gullah History. It was truly moving and a must see. The gift shop had really good sandwiches….. as well as nice gifts for purchase. The biggest disappointment for me……the house. We were able to see most of the down stairs but not all and we were not invited to see anything up the stairs. It was the first plantation I have seen that didn’t allow the tour entirely. I did enjoy the small garden area which looked so well maintained. Now on the tour bus driver Anderson……HE was AMAZING….. if I had to rate the tour on him alone it would be more then a 5 star review. He gave the best tour on our way to the plantation and amazing recommendations on anything we wanted on the ride back.
The Boone Plantation docent was awful. He did not speak of anything relevant about the house as a home of the imaster of f slaves. If people are not comfortable telling the truth, they should not work on a firmer slave plantation.
Really enjoyed Boone Hall. Lots to see and learn. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because we didn’t have enough time to do everything. We had to be back on the bus by 4:15 and we needed another 30 mins at least. If the tractor had been running we would have needed another hour.
It was a decent tour. Disappointed that only the first floor of the mansion was available to see. Needed more time to take advantage of the offerings and programs.
Plan enough time to read all informative signage and wander. Guides were passionate about history . and encouraged solemn reflection to honor experience of the people who lived there.
This was all really good. The bus ride was comfortable so much good information provided about the city and the plantation. Boone Plantation was fascinating, especially loved the Gullah presentation. Highly recommend this tour.
Greg was our driver. He was very accommodating and friendly . We enjoyed the stories and tours.
This was a wonderful experience and the highlight of my trip to Charleston. Boone Hall has a rich history, all brought to life by the excellent tour guides. Special mention must be made of tour guide Ed, who took tourists around the main building. His natural warmth and tremendous sense of humour will live long in the memory. I can’t recommend this excursion highly enough!
This was a wonderful experience and the highlight of my trip to Charleston. Fascinating history associated with the plantation, all brought to life by the excellent tour guides on site. A special mention must go to the guide Ed who showed tourists around the main hall. The combination of his natural warmth and tremendous sense of humour will live long in the memory! An absolute must see attraction in Charleston.
We visited Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens today, and it was a wonderful and enlightening experience. Our first stop was the presentation on the history of the enslaved people, including the Gullah people and their culture. It was especially meaningful and gave us a deeper understanding of the history of the plantation and the people who lived and worked there. The house tour was very informative, and we also enjoyed the wagon ride around the beautiful grounds. We found it especially interesting to learn that Boone Hall is still a working plantation today. There was so much history, culture, and beauty to experience. We would definitely recommend a visit to Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens!
The house tour was given by Bill who was great! The Gullah Tour (presentation) was also great. The Farm tour was okay
We enjoyed the historical tour opportunities within the plantation. Everyone knowledgeable and friendly and presentations informative. Beautiful experience.
It was an interesting peek at life back then. The h Guides and personnel were very friendly and were able to really tell the real thing
We thought the presentations discussing slavery on the plantation and the Gullah tribe were very informative. The nature tour was also a nice way to learn about what crops are grown on the site while also seeing some animals that are on the grounds. Transportation was great and was perfect for those who don’t want to worry about organizing everything themselves. Just to note going in August can be tough at times due to the humidity and heat as we were out in the sun for a lot of the day.
We wanted to visit Boone Plantation. Booking the bus and plantation tour was the way to go. No delays, very friendly driver and compact bus.
A lot to do, really enjoyed the history of the property. Toured the house, farm and would definitely recommend the Doulah presentation.
Very interesting, loved the historical and cultural emphasis on plantation life, especially the Gullah experience.
Well worth the experience. Our driver pointed out some notable landmarks on our way to Boone Hall. So much to see at Boone Hall. The guides were very informative and witty. A must for anyone visiting the Charleston area.
As an afropuertorican woman learning about the African American experience it was very impressionable. My take away we all must engage in these stories when you know better you do better. Grounds are stunning g and the history is very eye opening. My favorite was engaging with Ms Glander and learning about the Gullah Geechee community.
Excellent walkable half day excursion not far from downtown small market available for purchases and beverages
What a fascinating and sobering experience. About 30 minutes from downtown Charleston - absolutely worth the trip. Our guide (whose name is escaping me!) was wonderful - very easygoing and knowledgeable having only lived in Charleston for 3 years. The plantation is gorgeous - very well cared for - but not minimizing the dark side of the history that took place here. The slave cabins were fascinating; loved the house tour and the evolution of the building. Farm and garden tour was very informative. Then I just sat under a magnolia tree and took it all in. Absolutely worth the visit!
Very informative experience. Plan to stay for a while because there is so much to see. My favorite was the Gullah Experience.
We enjoyed our time visiting Boone Hall Plantation, even though a brief thunderstorm interrupted one of the shows we saw at this site.
Lexie was a great tour guide to Boon Hall. The grounds were amazing and the staff took pride in talking about all aspects of the homes history. The Gulla Girl was moving and she is amazing.
It is a beautiful setting with important and accurate history lessons told. The Gullah-gichi presentation is especially worth attending.
The plantation house was built well after slavery. The Gullah demonstration was great. I would imagine other tours might be better
The grounds and gardens are very nice. The "mansion" tour is a bust, consisting of viewing the library, dining room, and a hall way/office. The rest of the house is off limits. The staff was friendly and the Butterfly Cafe has great butter pecan ice cream. Overall, an interesting place to visit.
The tours of the house and grounds of Boone Hall were interesting. The Gullah presentation was excellent. We had a group of six and we all thought it was really tacky for the guides asked for tips after each tour. Haven’t experienced that at any other historical house tour.
Great place to spend a half or even a full day! Lots of history, several different 30-minute guided tours & also self-guided tours. Beautiful location & informative tour guides.
Receive background and knowledge of this beautiful plantation. Driver and guides are very entertaining and knowledgeable!
Very interesting and thought provoking visit to Boone hall! Was there for 3hrs and really could have done with longer but it was an escorted trip so we had to return for our transport. If I ever visit the area again would go in a car so that I could get the full experience
Well worth your time. Be sure to do all the things Be prepared to type a minimum of 100 characters in your review
Great trip from start to end! Transportation was on time and the driver was knowledgeable and really made the trip that more enjoyable! Boone Hall was amazing!
The excursion was excellent. We did have a problem with the address and location to meet the group. We had a 2.5 mile walk. You should have indicated it was at the Bus Barn.
A pleasant drive to Boone Hall Plantation from Charleston perfectly narrated by our driver. The grounds are spectacular! As you drive down the Oak Lined Drive you are transported back in time. The Gullah people gave a historic presentation of their ancestors life as enslaved people. I would recommend this tour.
Very interesting. It would have been helpful to have been given the schedule for the various events ahead of time, however. It was kind of chaotic when we got there. We also could have used more time at the plantation. According to The description of the trip, we would be gone up to 5 hours; instead, it was less than 4 hours, with less than 3 hours there.
There are many great exhibits to view. It was very informative and kept interest. Well worth the time.
I would definitely recommend this tour if you want historical information on this period of history especially from the perspective of the slaves. The Gullah presenter was very interesting!
Great history lesson! Guide on the ferry was extremely knowledgeable and was very personable. Answered all questions.
