The carriage house was fabulous but there does not seem to be on-site staff. We needed additional Nespresso pods and they were never delivered.

**A great, accommodating stay with just a couple of minor hiccups** We recently stayed at The Ashley for a quick Friday to Sunday weekend trip to Charleston, and overall, it was a lovely experience with fantastic hosts. First and foremost, the communication was excellent. The hosts were incredibly responsive and accommodating from the very beginning. We arrived before our room was ready, and they graciously allowed me to leave my bag in the secured lobby prior to check-in, which made exploring the city unencumbered so much easier. It is worth noting for future guests that there are no actual staff members on site. This wasn't an issue for us whatsoever—the check-in process was smooth and the remote hosts were always just a quick message away—but it’s good to know if you prefer a traditional front-desk hotel experience. Despite the lack of on-site staff, the hospitality was clearly there. The lobby area is thoughtfully stocked with plenty of complimentary beverages and light snacks, including apples, granola, and breakfast bars, which were perfect for grabbing on our way out the door in the mornings. They also have a Nespresso machine down there, which proved to be a lifesaver. I am giving four stars instead of five due to two specific issues with our room. The most concerning was that there were several broken tiles in the bathroom. Aside from not looking great, the sharp edges actually seemed a little dangerous, especially when walking around barefoot or stepping out of the shower. The second issue was a minor nuisance regarding the coffee situation. Our room came equipped with its own Nespresso machine, which we were excited about, but the provided coffee pods didn't actually match the machine. It was a bit confusing trying to get it to work before we finally realized they were completely incompatible. Because it was non-functional, we had to rely on the lobby Nespresso machine—not the end of the world, but slightly inconvenient when you just want a coffee in your room first thing in the morning. Despite those two critiques, we still had a wonderful time. The location is great, the amenities in the common area were a lovely touch, and you really couldn't ask for more responsive AirBnB hosts. I would gladly stay here again, hopefully with the bathroom tiles patched up!
Great location, and the house and room were very cozy. Both the lobby and balcony outside the room were also very nice to sit in. Self check in was easy, and their grab and go breakfast options were perfect for those who have a full day planned for outside. They also have one parking space available per room, for those driving in. Would easily stay here again
We had an amazing stay at the Ashley. The room was lovely, and we appreciated the complimentary snacks and beverages. Although there isn’t hotel staff on-site, the management team reached out many times to make sure everything was going well with our stay. We would absolutely stay here again!
Title: Disappointing Stay Despite a Few Kind Gestures We stayed for four days and, unfortunately, were never asked or given an opportunity to have our room freshened or receive fresh towels. During our stay, we only saw one staff member, who was kind and helped us get into the inn. The bed was extremely hard, making it difficult to sleep comfortably. Our room had two doors — one leading indoors and one outdoors by a spiral staircase — both with large gaps around the edges that let in light (and possibly insects) from the outside. There were also no interior locks, so we didn’t feel that our room was secure. The toilet was broken, and we had to open the tank to get it to flush. The shower head was positioned awkwardly, spraying at the back wall about four feet up, and it couldn’t be adjusted. The wallpaper, which must have once been beautiful, is peeling badly, and there are holes in the bathroom walls. Noise was also an issue, as the inn is located next to a large hospital with constant emergency vehicles and medevac helicopters operating 24/7. Breakfasts were served in brown boxes from a warming tray. The first was covered in cheese and bacon and largely inedible for us; the second day was a bit better with a plain bagel and an egg. We skipped breakfast the next two days. On a positive note, they did provide plenty of drinks, snacks, and fresh fruit, which were freely available and appreciated. Overall, while we appreciated the small kindnesses, the room’s condition, lack of security, and maintenance issues made our stay disappointing.
