Explore an abandoned underground slate mine following the old quarryman's footsteps, with various optional challenges along the way, including; climbing, an abseil, a short tyrolean/ zipline and a short boat crossing. All of which can be avoided by scrambling around. This is an authentic experience with the only changes to the mine being the addition of safety anchors where necessary, as such, it is most similar to caving with the only lights being those on your headtorches (provided). There will be options to learn about history and processes that created these caverns and tunnels, for those that are interested. If you've been underground before, get in touch, we have a number of underground adventures to keep you coming back for more. This activity is very popular with families and school groups, but we also guide a number of couples and adult groups. There is about a 30minute walk up hill to approach this mine and at the end of the trip you'll emerge near the top of the mountain and hopefully have lovely views walking down. All under 18's must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
This was an incredible experience for all ages. Sol was amazing it our 8 year old, making sure all aspects were fun and suitable for him and also for our teenagers. He was so knowledgeable and made us feel totally safe being underground for 5 hours!! Would recommend and book with him again.
If you fancy something different and adventurous then the extreme caving is perfect. From a short abseil into the caves then exploration underground (be prepared to get wet!) with alternative route options for the braver people, to climbing out of the caves, the whole experience is really good fun. Sol the guide meets you near the entrance, kits you up in suitable gear that's all clean. Sol is brilliant, very patient and encouraging for the more nervous of our party and knowledgeable about the caves themselves. We talked a couple of times beforehand and Sol made sure we knew what to expect. If we return to Wales we will definitely be doing other adventure activities with Sol. Highly recommend!

Our guide Sol was really nice, very generous, and very experienced. It was very wet, and he let me borrow his waterproof bottoms for the whole caving experience, and I would've been drenched without them. He clearly knew what he was doing and knew a lot about the place and told us loads of cool facts! Loads of activities to do in the cave like ziplining abseiling, and walking up a waterfall which was amazing!
We did this trip as part of our family holiday, with my kids aged 6,9 and 11. We all loved it. The trip leader was brill. He tailored the experience to what we needed. Gave loads of interesting facts about the mine and was really encouraging and kind, supporting the kids to do things that were out of their comfort zone. One of the best days out we have had in ages. Sol was incredibly professional, and we, a group of four, thoroughly enjoyed our caving adventure with him. We felt safe and guided throughout the experience, and we particularly loved the history lessons he shared about the caves.
We were a family group of 9, 2 61 yr olds, 5 30s, a 16 and a teen. This was such a fun activity for all of us . To start, he was amazing with communication over email or WhatsApp. We picked the time and met him in the morning. The hike up the mountain was the hardest part of the day, loose slate and moderately steep but after that all easy. The mines are amazing. All of our favorite was the waterfall you get to climb. A waterfall!, way underground! The rappelling and boat was so fun too. The caverns were beautiful. Don't hesitate to book this trip as it was the highlight of our vacation. Sol was an amazing guide and a real pleasure to work with.
Went on the underground slate adventure during the May half term with my husband and 8 year old son. The experience was AMAZING exploring the labyrinth of the slate mines with a boat ride, zip lining, abseiling and climbing a waterfall. Sol our guide was fantastic and so knowledgable. My husband and I took our 11 year old son on the underground adventure with Sol and it far exceeded our expectations. Our son loves adventure and gets bored easily but over the 4 hours we spent with Sol, he kept things engaging and the activities involved were suitable for an 11 year old, but added a sense of controlled ‘danger’ which held my sons enthusiasm and interest (he’s an adrenaline seeker). For me personally, I have a couple of injuries which limited my ability to participate in some of the activities, which wasn’t a problem. Sol had alternative ways to move forward which did not require scrambling, zip lining or abseiling. My husband had a great time and also felt the activities were the right level of difficulty to be a challenge but not too hard. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

We did the Underground Adventure yesterday in the slate mines with our 2 children aged 13 & 8 with Sol and his team. We have never done anything like this before as a family but we can honestly say we had the best afternoon. Sol, Jess & Russ were so knowledgeable, encouraging and made sure we were all safe when carrying out all the activities! The kids loved learning to rock climb, abseil and zip wire Underground and learning the history of the abandoned slate mines was fantastic as well. I would highly recommend this authentic experience & would book again with sol & his team.

Had a great few hours abseiling in the caves. The instructor gave information on the caves as we walked through. Great experience, would definitely recommend. The instructors take lots of photos and videos which they send you via WhatsApp (free of charge).
Me and my boys age 10, 10 and 12 joined Sol on a caving experience in the old slate mine. Thoroughly enjoyable, Sol had a slightly earlier start to avoid bumping into the larger groups. There was 6 of us in total and Sol showed us round the mine with a few history lessons on the way. The mines were impressive along with a mini zip line, abseil and the walk up the waterfall. We had a great day out, thank you Sol.
Wow! What an amazing day out with the family. This was the highlight of our family holiday to snowdonia! Excellent communication with Sol and our adventure guide Sam was fantastic from the start. His engagement with our 13,11 & 8 year old throughout the day made our adventure truly memorable. From climbing to rafting, abseiling to Traversing this trip has it all. Honestly, hands down, the best experience of my husband and my life. Not sure what we expected, but it exceeded them all. The booking was easy, the communication was excellent. I really don't know how much more I can say. A nice long steep walk prior to the cave, then sheer delight at walking through big puddles followed by an underground of caverns, ropes, ziplines, abseiling and climbing (all optional) Very highly recommended and will definitely re-book! Very worth the money.
Great afternoon with our guide Sol who was very knowledgeable about the mine and it's history. Our trek though the mines was done at our own pace and we had choices whether or not to do certain challenges. Great experience would highly recommend !!

Wonderful family day out. We booked the underground adventure with Sol. Sol was great with our 12 year old! He had a great sense of humor, was kind, knowledgeable, and kept us all safe. We went as a family of 5 with a 12, 10 and 8 year old. We had such a good time with Sol, everything was very easy and efficient booking wise. We spent all afternoon with Sol doing abseiling, rock climbing and exploring the mines. Sol was very knowledgable and made the children feel at ease. It was the perfect level of challenge for them. I can’t recommend Sol more highly we are definitely going to be back to do another adventure.

We had an amazing time exploring an old slate mine with Sol. We booked a private cave exploring day which included lots of activities inside such as abseiling and a zip line. It was slightly physically challenging, but no problem for a 12 & 11 year old, and a 6 year old with a bit of help with her carabiners. We are already thinking about booking another activity day next summer!
Visiting the Snowdonia area for the week we were looking to do something different with our 2 adventurous kids aged 11 and 8. Could not have done any better than this! A 4.5 underground journey in the pitch dark climbing, hiking, abseiling, zip lining and boating on lakes with only the light from our head torches to guide us was full of positive surprises and so much fun. Sol’s experience as a guide and a Llanberis mountain rescue team member meant we felt safe at all times. He’s a super professional, chilled guy, fantastic with the kids and provided loads of fun facts which our 8-yr old is still spouting days later. We did a private tour for our family which given the length of the trip with all equipment (down to our wellies) included, I thought was a great value day out. Sadly we didn’t have enough time left to do the canyoning as well. Next time!
We were recently in Wales for a boys weekend away (stag do) and had the pleasure of a day full of adventure with Sol and Sam. We had both Mine exploration and Canyoning booked which meant it was a full on day but it was incredible. I simply cannot recommend this enough to everyone and I will be returning with my family. We were well looked after with snacks all day and cake and beer at the end. Sol and Sam both joined in with our banter and just increased the fun we had, if you are in wales you need to book this
Our first time doing anything like this and was way more than we ever expected. Sol met us in bets-wy-coed and we followed him to the quarry and mines. His knowledge on the mines and surrounding areas was amazing, detailing the history of the mining and even the geology of the rock itself. The climbing, zip line, boat ride and abseiling was brilliant and we did a lot more of it than we expected for the price. When we made it back to the car he had some food and a beer for us in his cool box. Honestly blown away with our day and if we achieve nothing else during our trip this has made our weekend. I booked the trip to the mines as a surprise for my partners birthday. We both absolutely loved it! Sol was a fantastic guide! He's really friendly with so much knowledge. We explored the mines, abseiled, climbed with ropes and tried a zip line. It was a fantastic experience and Sol made us feel completely safe. Highly recommend the trip and Sol.
A brilliant day that was thoroughly enjoyed by my family. Sol has an excellent ability to engage his audience and bring the local knowledge he has to life. Safety is always his top priority and you know there is nothing to worry about in his hands. It was a great experience. Loved everything about it, we did the boat crossing, zip wire and kids did the abseil and then we opted for the scramble way up and out to the top of the mountain. Sol was very knowledgeable, accommodating and encouraging. A great day out for families and a fantastic introduction to authentic caving in an abandoned slate mine. Well worth it.
We was holidaying in Wales and really wanted a great family experience, that would make some amazing memories with our children. I booked online and the whole process was easy and communication was clear. Sol emailed over locations and instructions from appropriate clothing and itinerary. We met at around 10am and headed to location. We then had a brief and got kitted up. We then made our way to the starting location. The whole experience was amazing from zip lining, rafting and abseiling. Our children are 9 and 11 and found all obstacles were suitable, but still challenging. Sol is a very knowledgeable guide/instructor, Who made us feel comfortable and safe. We cannot recommend Adventure Activities Wales enough.
Went out with Sol (our guide) today 10/08/22 caving at a slate mine in north Wales, felt the need to write something about our time, Sol was a great guide any questions we had he took the time to answer and explain the history behind it, the cave itself was fantastic loads of history boat ride,abseiling , zip lining, climbing up ladders, through water, I’m not the fittest but Sol was more than accommodating 😀, would recommend this guy to anyone,
My Son and I had an amazing time with Sol from Adventure Activities Wales climbing, abseiling, water fall climbing and exploring the slate mine! Great day out and highly Recommend- was fearful of being claustrophobic but throughout felt totally at ease, in control and totally enjoyed the experience!
We booked a tour of the mine and it was the highlight of our vacation. Sol took great care of us and explained a lot to us. He was very friendly and was able to answer all of our questions. You could tell that it was important to him that we had a great experience. We went on a boat ride in the mine, there was a cable car and we were allowed to abseil down ourselves. We had a lot of fun. At the end there were even drinks and Welsh cakes. We were also unable to attend our original appointment due to problems with the car and he immediately and flexibly offered us a new appointment at no extra cost. We were very happy that we were still able to do the tour. I would recommend everyone to take a trip with Sol.
